A DOCTOR'S VOW

"A cashier's check, for pity's sake," Ryan muttered in disbelief that night, when he and his bride-to-be were managing to steal a few precious moments alone. "There won't even be a damn tax write-off on it. Who would do such a crazy thing?"
Ronni hazarded a guess. "Someone who knows what you want more than anything else?"
He put a finger under her chin, tipped her face up to his. "I have what I want."
She grinned. "But five million sure helps. And now there's only five million to go."
"I'm telling you, Ronni, even though I've squeezed every cent out of every source I can think of, I still believe this is doable. Hell, my own son raised … what?"
"Three hundred twenty-five dollars and forty-eight cents. So far."
"We'll get the rest somewhere."
"I have no doubts at all about that."
His mouth hovered just inches from hers. "You have a lot of faith in us."
"I do. Would you please kiss me, Ryan?"
His lips met hers with tenderness and passion—and enough love to last a lifetime.
