I could also see Casey listening to this walking across campus between classes. I like the build-up especially.

“Need You Now (How Many Times)”—Plumb

Her voice on the chorus of this song is so emotional and pleading, and setting it against the electronic dance background gives it a great anthem feel. I like the J-C Club Mix. It sounds like something Casey might compose for Daniel, infusing so much emotion into the music.

  “Back to You (Wach Remix)”

  —Fabio XB & Christina Novelli

Christina Novelli’s voice on “Concrete Angel” led me to this song, another that seemed to fit the book’s themes so well. “No matter what I do, this current pulls me back to you . . .” Beautiful and haunting.

“Moves (Vinny Vero & Steve Migliore Radio Edit)”

  —Bright Light Bright Light

The lyrics again thematically fit the story: “Moving on is the hardest thing to do . . .” It has a great groove, and I think it’s a fantastic remix of a brilliant song. Look for the Blueprints Version for a more tender acoustic tone that underscores the words.

“In the Dark”—Tiesto and Christian Burns

An older Tiesto track, but the lyrics seem fitting for Casey and Daniel:

“Cause I will be there / And you will be there / We’ll find each other in the dark”

  “Swagga”—Excision and Datsik

Like “Welcome to the Jungle,” this might be something Casey would put on after midnight when the vibe of the crowd became a bit . . . grindier.

  “Like Satellites”—Manufactured Superstars

I could easily envision Casey playing this in the club, too.

“All of Me (Tiesto’s Birthday Remix)”—John Legend

This is a beautiful, heartfelt song, and the remix really hits its stride halfway in. It would definitely be on Casey’s personal playlist, and again fits the themes of Scratch.

  “Steal You Away (Club Mix)”

—Dash Berlin, Alexander Popov, Jonathon Mendelsohn

I like the buildup in this song as well, and I could see this as something Casey might write and even play.

  “Parachute (tyDi Mix)”—Ingrid Michaelson

“I don’t need a parachute, baby, if I’ve got you / You’re gonna catch me . . .” On the flip side, I feel like this is something Daniel might put on a playlist for Casey. And her voice is beautiful, as always.

  “Say Something”—A Great Big World

This is another song I think would be a theme song for Scratch, especially toward the end. There are some good remixes out there, but the rawness of the lyrics seems best served by the simple production. It gives me the sniffles whenever I hear it.
