He took her hands and looked into her eyes. “I care a lot for you, and I promise I am here if you need me for anything.” He leaned down and brushed his lips gently over hers. “Anything you need…” His voice sounded deep and gravelly to his ears. He wanted her so badly, more than he had ever wanted anything before. But Logan knew he needed to get through to her somehow, get her to be truthful with him, or he wouldn’t be able to take the next step in the relationship.
“I’ll try, when I’m ready.” Her voice came out in a whisper as she stepped closer, putting her arms around his neck and pulling him against her lips. “I can call the limo and ask him to come in an hour. We could take this to your bedroom.” She kissed his neck before nibbling on his ear.
Logan moaned and pulled her closer as he found her mouth and deepened the kiss. “I want you too.” He groaned as she slipped out of his arms.
“I’ll call my driver.”
“Wait.”
She glanced over her shoulder, brows drawn down.
“I’m not like that. I want a relationship with you. I want all of you, not just sex now and then. I’m not a friend with benefits type of guy. So as much as I want to do this, and I do want to do this.” He saw her glance down at the outline of his hardness straining against his jeans. “I can’t if you aren’t willing to give us a shot at being more than just friends.” Running his hand through his hair, he waited for her response as he watched a range of emotions travel over her face.
Drew slid her finger over her phone and placed it against her ear. “It’s me. I’m going to need you to pick me up in about an hour.” Glancing over her shoulder again, he watched as a wicked little smile played over her lips. “Make that two. Thank you.” She slid the screen off and put her phone on the end table. “I don’t know how much I can promise you. This isn’t something I’ve ever even wanted to explore before. But you make me want to do things I’ve never done in the past. I need two things from you before we make this happen.”
He cocked his head and raised a brow before motioning for her to go on, wondering if she was going to negotiate this like a business deal.
“First, I need you to stop asking me so many damn questions. There are things I deal with in my life that I won’t share with you or allow into a relationship. What I do with my business life is just that, my business. If you can’t agree to this then we have a deal breaker right now.”
Logan nodded as he crossed his arms over his chest. Yep, business deal. What the hell happened to you in the past? “Go on. I want to hear both of your stipulations before I decide.”
“Okay. If we decide to go through with this proposed relationship, you will agree that you will not own me. We are partners and you will not be possessive at any time over anything. I won’t be in a relationship like that.” She crossed her arms, eyes narrowed.
Logan tapped his lip with his finger. “So you want me to stay out of your business dealings, and I can’t be possessive about anything?”
“Right.”
“I can agree to that.”
She smiled and reached for him.
“Whoa, not so fast lady. I have some stipulations as well. I want you to agree to the same with me as far as the possessiveness. Also, I need you to promise me if you are ever in trouble or need someone to talk to, it will be me.”
Her eyes lit up. “I think I can agree with those. Would you like to shake on it, or do we need a contract.” She giggled.
“I can think of a better way to seal this deal.” He scooped her up into his arms and carried her to his bedroom.
Letting her slide to the floor, he pulled her shirt over her head as she undid her jeans. He stepped back and watched as she slid them slowly over her hips, her eyes never leaving his. When she stepped out them, his breath caught. His damn heart threatened to pound out of his chest.
“What?” She stood frozen in place.
He tugged his T-shirt off and tossed it on top of her jeans before undoing his button and pushing his jeans off his hips. As he stepped out of them, he heard his voice full of more desire than he’d ever felt in his life. “You are the most beautiful, sensual woman I have ever met.” His breathing quickened as she slid her panties off and they joined the growing pile of discarded items on his floor.
She walked slowly to him, as her body flushed and her breath quickened, making her pert breasts sway softly. He glanced down at the perfect little nipples. His mouth watered with the need to lavish each one. Shit, I sound like a fucking romance novel. He felt his mouth quirk up just as she touched his stomach softly with her hands, making his breath catch in his chest. He moaned as she moved her hands lower, sliding them under the elastic of his boxers.
She looked up at him with hooded eyes. “You are wearing too many clothes,” she whispered as she stood up on her toes to kiss him softly while she helped him tug them off. He lifted her against his chest feeling her breasts against him, her soft skin under his calloused hands. He lifted her higher and as she wrapped her legs around his waist, he felt the moist heat of her against him, causing him to moan even louder.
“I want you Logan,” she whispered, he could hear the desire in her voice.
He moved to the bed and laid her down, kissing her neck, her face, and her shoulders. He moved to her breast and sucked her nipple in, causing her to shudder and throw her head back as a moan escaped from her lips. She grabbed his hair.
“Oh, Logan.” She pulled him closer. He kissed his way back to her mouth, assaulting her lips and tongue with his as he slid his hand down to her stomach. She moved her hips, and he smiled against her mouth.
“Are you ready for me?”
“Yes,” she whimpered. “Yes.”
He slid his hand lower, feathering touches on her inner folds before finally slipping a finger softly inside of her. He moaned. “So tight and wet.” He moved to position himself between her legs as she whispered his name. He rolled the condom on, before nudging against her opening, then pushed gently to ease himself into her warm tightness. She whimpered again as he moved slowly, so slowly, easing himself in and allowing her to adjust to his size. “Are you all right?” he asked as he nibbled on her neck, waiting for her to answer him, afraid he was hurting her.
“Don’t stop. I’m fine.” She breathed out with a moan. “God, don’t stop Logan, please.”
He found her mouth again, their tongues dancing as he finally slid fully into her. She opened her eyes, and he felt the smile on her lips.
“Love me, Logan. Just love me.”
He slid in and out slowly, allowing Drew to set the pace of their lovemaking. He wanted to lift her hips and bury himself deeper, but he didn’t want to hurt her, ever, in any way. So, he let her dictate their lovemaking. Lovemaking, she begged him to make love to her, to love her. His heart soared, hell his soul soared. He felt himself falling deeply in love with this woman, and he prayed she wasn’t going to shred his heart.
She tightened around him, and he knew she was close. He felt her lift her legs, and he slid his hand under her ass and lifted her closer.
“Now,” she begged.
He thrust himself into her, sliding deeper, moaning as he felt her tighten even more. It wasn’t going to take much for either of them. He quickened the pace and increasing his movements, taking them over the edge. He felt himself shatter into a million pieces in the most mind-blowing orgasm he’d ever had in his life. She screamed his name before they both collapsed, spent on the bed.

Drew lay in his arms listening to his heartbeat and his slow steady breathing. She knew he had drifted off after making love to her. That is what they had done—made love not had sex. She’d never felt anything like it before in her life. Sighing, she snuggled closer to him, smiling when she felt his arm tighten around her for a moment. Drew knew she’d made a deal with the devil, promising Logan she’d let him in if she were in trouble. She wouldn’t draw him into her secret life. He was too good of a person, and he’d more than likely get himself in t
rouble by trying to protect her.
“Logan. I have to go. My car will be here any moment.”
“Can’t you send him home and stay? This feels good and it’s awfully cold out there.” He pulled her on top of him and kissed her lips.
“I wish I could, but I hate to send him home twice. I’ll come back tomorrow, if you’d like.”
“You’re always welcome here. Maybe you can stay tomorrow night.” He rolled over and kissed her neck. “I really don’t want you to go.”
“I have to. I have some business to take care of tonight, remember?” She giggled as he nibbled on her neck. “Stop, I have to get dressed.”
Kissing her once again, he rolled over and switched on the light. “Let me get dressed so I can walk you out.”
She watched as he stood from the bed and walked to his dresser. Wow, that ass is amazing. Her eyes roved higher, taking in his muscular, toned back and arms. She couldn’t believe the feelings she was having for this man. Shaking her head, she threw the covers back and stood to gather her clothes. She heard a soft whistle and glanced over her shoulder to find him checking her out with a huge smile on his face.
“You aren’t so bad yourself,” she replied, slipping on her jeans.
“Do you have to cover up that perfect ass?” He chuckled as he pulled a sweatshirt over his head. “I sure could get used to seeing that getting out of my bed every morning.”
Feeling the heat of her blush spreading over her face, she slipped her sweater on. “The feeling is mutual, handsome. You don’t have to walk me downstairs.”
“That’s what a gentleman does. Get used to it. Come on, I think your driver is here, I just saw headlights out front.”
Sticking out her bottom lip, she took his hand and let him lead her downstairs. “It seems I’m not very happy with myself for deciding to go home tonight.”
Her comment was met with a deep chuckle. “I’m glad to hear it.” He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “You are a very confusing woman whom I plan on unraveling a little at a time.” He kissed her before helping her on with her coat. “Don’t forget, I’m here if you need me. Call me anytime.”
“I will. Now, let me get going.” She watched as he pulled his coat off the hook and shrugged it on. “You really don’t have to walk me out, it’s cold out there.”
“Drew...”
“Okay, I’m sorry.” She held her hands up in defeat. He placed his hand on the small of her back, and she instantly felt the heat spread from his touch. She had to get her head on straight to deal with whatever shit Scott was throwing her way. She’d call Ramsey as soon as she got home to see what he’d found out. Logan leaned over and kissed her softly before closing the door to her limo.
She waved as her driver pulled away from the curb then turned her cell phone back on. Multiple text messages pinged in. What the hell? Twenty-seven messages and only two were from Ramsey. Cringing, she noticed the other twenty-five were from Scott. She opened the first. You will pay. You won’t get away with it. If you know what’s good for you, you will respond. Bitch, you’ll be sorry you’re ignoring me. They went on and on, each one getting worse than the last. She moved to the two from her friend.
Princess, call me as soon as it’s safe for you to talk. She flipped to the next one. Princess, don’t call, come to my house ASAP.
A shiver passed over Drew as nausea hit hard. For Ramsey to ask her to come to his home, something was dreadfully wrong. Leaning forward, she informed her driver to take her to Ramsey’s home. “I’ll need you to wait outside for me.”
“Of course, Ms. Taylor.” He flipped on the turn signal and rerouted the limo. In record time, they pulled up in front of Ramsey’s home.
“Don’t get out.” She opened the door herself and headed up the steps of the mansion. Before she could knock, the door opened.
A stern looking butler directed her to the sitting room. “He’s waiting for you, Ms. Taylor.”
Ramsey turned, his face appeared ashen. “God, it’s about time you got here.” He rushed over and pulled her into his arms. “What the hell are you wearing? Where were you?”
“I’m wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I was with a friend. Look at these.” She handed her phone to him so he could read some of the text messages.
Raking a hand through his hair, he sat down quickly, pulling her with him. “This is so much worse than I thought. Scott is more unstable than either of us knew. He’s been talking shit all day. Spreading vicious rumors about you. People are worried. He came into the club earlier this evening making threats that when he found you, he would make you sorry. I think you need to call the police.”
“Does he know about the emerald?” Drew felt trembles spreading through her body. Grabbing his hand, she braced herself. Drew felt her carefully practiced façade crumbling around her.
“I don’t think so. I think he’s pissed that you walked out on him and cast him aside for the football player. He’s mentally unstable, Princess. I don’t think we can let this go.”
“Ramsey, how can I call the police?” She raised her hand. “All the threats and how angry he was. What am I going to tell the police? What are they going to do to protect me?”
“You’re probably right. You got rid of the fake emerald, didn’t you?” Glancing in his eyes, she knew he saw her truth. “Oh crap, you still have it.” Standing, he paced the floor. “You have to get rid of the fake one ASAP. I don’t think it’s about anything else but you dumping him. You shouldn’t go home tonight.”
“I’ll be fine. My place is heavily secured.” I hope so anyway. Drew took a deep breath. “I’m not going to let him scare me. I won’t do it. I’m going home and sleep on this. Tomorrow, I’m going to go to the club and meet this son of a bitch on my turf. He can’t do anything to me in public.”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea. Look at you. I’ve never seen you like this before. I know you’re scared. Let me help you.”
Hugging him as she laid her head on his wide chest, she sighed. “I got myself into this, I will get myself out. I appreciate you helping me this much, but I won’t drag you in any further.”
“You didn’t get yourself into this, we got you into it with these stupid bets we’re always making with each other. I don’t like this one bit. I’ll be at the club to meet you tomorrow evening.”
“You don’t have to do that.” She pulled away and squared her shoulders.
“No, we’re going to have dinner tomorrow night. If he shows up, you won’t be alone.”
“I’m going home now,” she said, sighing in defeat. There was no sense in arguing with Ramsey once he’d made his mind up.
“Please, let me know when you’re there.” He leaned over and kissed her cheek. “I’ll see you at seven.”
“Sounds good.” She glanced over her shoulder to see him standing in the doorway, watching her walk to her car. The driver opened the door. She slid into her limo and turned to wave as they pulled away. Her heart was thumping in her chest. She wanted to tell Logan but she couldn’t. She knew he would protect her with everything in his being, and she wasn’t going to drag him into it. She’d sleep on it tonight and worry about it tomorrow.

Logan checked his phone again, wondering why he hadn’t heard from Drew. She’d promised to text him when she got home. Hell, she should have been there twenty minutes ago. He paused the TV and slid the lock off his phone. Where are you? Did you forget to text me?
Sorry! I made a stop at a friend’s house and got distracted. Almost home now. Can we talk tomorrow?
The tension he’d held released as he read her text. Sure. Sleep well.
You too.
Glancing at the clock, he turned off the TV and headed to bed. He had another practice at noon and even though it wasn’t an early practice or a long one, he wanted to be well rested. After the night he’d had with her, he knew he needed to get his sorry ass to bed. He felt the smile spread over his mouth just thinking about what they’d shared. Wh
o knew under that arrogant façade was a fun, loving, sweet, young woman.
Logan set his alarm before he headed into the bathroom to shower. She was a very pleasant surprise, and he hoped she wouldn’t resort back to that cold exterior she presented to the world. After his shower, he made his way into the bedroom and stood for a moment, looking at the rumpled sheets that were the proof of their lovemaking a short time ago. Climbing into bed, he inhaled the sweet scent that still lingered from her hair and perfume, closed his eyes, and drifted off into a dreamless sleep.
Much too soon, his alarm was buzzing. Logan groaned as he rolled over and hit the off button, grabbed his phone, and called for a cab. Throwing off the covers, he got out of bed. Grabbing his bag, he hurried down the steps, slid on his shoes and jacket, and headed out the door. Gus was pulling up, a big smile lighting up his face. Logan opened the back door, tossed in his bag, and climbed in behind it.
“Hey, Gus. How are you?”
“Morning, Logan. Where are we off to?”
“The field.” He rubbed his hands together, trying to warm them up a bit.
Gus lifted he chin. “Sorry, let me warm it up a little for you.” He reached to turn up the heat.
“No, don’t turn it up. My hands will warm up in a minute.” He chuckled. “I’ll be outside for practice anyway, so I don’t want to get a chill getting out of a warm cab.”
“Sure, I understand. Can’t believe it’s almost Christmas again.”
“I almost forgot Christmas was right around the corner. It is coming quick, isn’t it?” Before he knew it, they were pulling into the football compound. “Thanks for the lift, Gus. What time are you getting off today?’
“Not until four. I’ll come back for you if I’m not with a fare.”
“Sounds good. I should be done before four. I’ll call. Have a good one in case I don’t see you.”
“Sure will. You too. Be careful out there today.”
