“Something still feels wrong,” I said, then more quietly added, “It's like something bad could happen at any second, but it's waiting for the perfect moment to strike.”

His eyes flickered to the window, and with a nod he pulled me into a sort of side hug. “I don't doubt it. Joey is bad news, and he wants me to suffer. That means he's as likely to come after you as he is to come after me.” Touching a finger to my nose, he smiled down at me. “But if you and I stick together, and really think about this, we can overcome anything. With some help from our friends, I think we'll be just fine, so stop your worrying.”

For just that moment, with his arm wrapped around me and his eyes on mine, I truly believed him. I had to, because he believed it so fully. He had no doubt about out chances of winning. It was endearing, if not misguided. If Seraniel was working with them, we were fucked.

There was just no other way to say it.

His lips pressing against my neck broke through my thoughts. “Hmm, what are you doing?” I asked. He was behind me, his warm arms wrapped around my abdomen as his lips fluttered against my sensitive skin.

“Kissing you,” he answered. “Showing you that you're loved.”

I smiled and let him kiss me for as long as he wanted. It felt heavenly. He smelled of something spicy. Those lips of his were soft and hot and delicate, all at once. With a spin, he forced a kiss onto my lips. I melted into him as his hands scratched down my sides.

With his palms, he massaged my breasts, manipulating them and making the nipples stiffen. I could feel myself becoming more wet with desire. My body ached to be touched, my mind was silently begging him to put a hand between my thighs.

Brushing a finger down my face, he brought it down to my collar bone, and then slid it over my nipple. It became even harder. I was panting into his kisses, then.

“Come with me,” he said, pulling on my hand and leading me to his bedroom. I playfully pulled away from him, but his grip on my hand was firm.

A quick flick of his arms had me held above the floor. “Hey!” I yelled, laughing. He chuckled as he laid me down on the bed, his mouth still hot on mine. Using his hand, he stroked up and down my thigh, moving slightly more inwards each time. He was so close to my cunt, then, and I was ready. I knew that I was soaking wet.

His hands reached up under my dress and pulled down on my stockings. They slid over my pale legs, down my calves and then off at my feet. Fingers played along the lining of my panties. I whimpered as he slowly lifted them, sliding his hand beneath them so that he could feel my skin.

“You're so wet,” he said, and I nodded emphatically. His voice was filled with lust and power. I was more turned on then than I had ever been before, my whole body hot and almost buzzing with an intense desire. A desire for that man, Scott, the human who stole my heart.

When he finally touched my sensitive nub, I shot up and cried out in joy. My legs opened wider, quaking with pleasure. He slid my panties down next, so that he could have a clear view of my slit, easy access to my hole.

His fingers were slick with my juices. Slipping one of them into my sopping hole, he used his thumb to make circles around the sensitive spot at the top. I shook and let my body collapse back onto the bed while he fingered me slowly, exploring my insides with gentle prods and strokes.

Glancing down, I found Scott admiring my body. His other hand was on his cock, rubbing it through his pants. My mouth began to salivate.

Scott began to deliberately stretch my hole with another finger. He was pushing me closer and closer to a loud orgasm, and when it finally hit, it was even harder than expected. Drugging waves of pleasure wiped me out, leaving me a panting mess on the bed. Still, he did not stop moving his fingers inside of me, pummeling my hole harder and faster than before. I came again, and again, and yet again on those fingers.

When he finally stopped, I realized I had been screaming out with each orgasm. The sudden silence rang in my ears as I smiled down at him. But instead of being finished, he slipped yet another finger inside, and then dipped his head under my dress. My hands gripped at the bed sheets, my toes curled as I felt his tongue touch my clit.

Lapping up my juices, his slurping noises made me feel both dirty and sexy all at once. As his tongue lashed at my clit, his fingers pumped in and out of me. He fucked me hard like that, forcing me to orgasm more.

He pulled his head back out from under my skirt once I was truly spent. “I'm not sure I can do much more,” I said, panting.

Shaking his head, he grinned. “Oh, no. We're gonna fuck. Take your dress off while I undress.”

My heart pounded in my chest. I was so wiped out, but at the same time so ready for the fucking I was about to receive. Pulling my dress over my head, I waited, watching as his pants and shirt came off.

He was so hot, it was a sin. That body was so perfect, and for that moment, it was all mine. I spread my legs and touched myself while I watched him, pleasuring myself to the sight of his tight muscles and that shapely ass.

When he turned and saw me with my hand on my cunt, he gave me a cocky grin. “Take your hand off my prize. I'm going to fuck you like you've never been fucked before.” Grabbing my legs, he pulled me down to the edge of the bed and threw them over his shoulders.

He entered me quickly, somehow still stretching me even after I had been fingered. That big cock of his slid right up to my cervix, lightly brushing it. He stood in that position for a while, his hands on my hips holding me still. I felt so deliciously full.

I looked up at Scott with adoring eyes, my fingers running up and down his arms as I waited for him to fuck me.

His movements were slow at first, but then he started moving at a faster pace. I fought the urge to squirm and wiggle beneath him, letting him just take me as hard as he wanted to.

I got the fucking of a lifetime. It was fast, and hard. He slapped my tits, which feels better than one would expect. His fingers scratched down my body. But he fucked me for a long time, his huge cock stretching me out.

Leaning over, he sucked one of my nipples into his mouth. His wet tongue against my breasts felt heavenly. My pussy spasmed around his cock, and an orgasm that I thought would have been impossible after all the ones that came before it crashed through me. With one knee on the bed beneath my leg, the other leg on the floor giving his thrusts more power, he fucked me harder, grunting and cursing with each pleasurable stroke.

His cock twitched within me, and I knew he was close to exploding within me. A drop of sweat slipped down his forehead and onto my stomach. Scott's thick, creamy ropes of cum spill into me, filling me up as he slid out.

Scott helped me onto his bed, where we cuddled for a long time. As long as I was in his arms, my anxiety was gone and everything felt perfectly right. I knew, though, that hiding from the truth would not change it. I needed to do something if I wanted to keep us safe.

I sat up, kissing his forehead, then his nose, and then his lips. “I'm going to let you look through the stuff from the safety deposit box.”

“I had almost forgotten about it,” he said with a smile. “You can stay.”

Shaking my head, I slid off of the mattress. “No. This is yours to deal with. I'll come help you once you've looked through it, but I shouldn't be here to distract you.”

He reached out and grabbed my hand, pulling me back down for a kiss. “I love you,” he said.

“I love you, too.” I stood again. “Call me in when you're ready to talk.”

  Scott

My eyes were on her ass while she slipped one of my long shirts over her body and stepped out of my bedroom. Her absence made the room somehow colder.

I loved everything about that woman. Even her quirks, her belief that she was a demon, endeared me to her. She was, of course, great in bed… but that was only a bonus, a prize that came with the wonderful, weird woman I had fallen in love with.

I would do anything in my power to keep her safe, to keep her near me. If it meant killing, dying, believing she was a demon? I would
do it.

Once the bedroom door was closed behind her, separating me from the sight of her shapely legs below my shirt, I leaned over the bed and grabbed my leather jacket from the floor. It was heavy with everything stolen from that safety deposit box.

I pulled it all out slowly, one by one. A stack of money, from Japan. Another stack of money, that one from Sweden. There were some random bills from Saudi Arabia, Russia, and a few other countries I didn't recognize. The money all went into a pile, to be dealt with later. I had no real use for it, but I could exchange it if I wanted to.

Next came the passports. There were passports there for three men, but 16 different names. Judas Privet, with Joey Oregon's face. Joey had other names, like Mason Blonsky, Clint Sama, and Tanner Frankenfield Augliano-Dewall. The last one was so long and ridiculous, I couldn't help but laugh.

The other men had their own passports, too. Eduardo Chaffey. Rob Choute. Nicholas Never. None of the names rang a bell, none of them were their original names. They were clearly bouncing around after they died, but why? What were they doing in all that time since I failed to kill them?

Next came the medical bills, under all of those false names. Reconstructive surgery. Plastic surgery. A few for broken bones. Had they been flying around in order to reconstruct their faces after I shot them? That would make a lot of sense. There were a few bills for major surgeries for the head. One of them was for the Tanner name, and it was the earliest.

That must have been how they survived. They had major surgery to save their lives. I had no clue how they made it out in time, since they should have bled out quickly, but they managed it. The bastards. Back from the dead, and ready to kick my ass for crossing them.

The last thing in my pocket was a deed to a house. It was near my own house, easily within driving distance. Was that where they were hiding out? I expected they were staying at the factory, but maybe they moved to the house after they killed Jin. They had to have known we could have found them from the photos.

They were smart, but I was smarter, and time was on my side. I could have called Antonio and Saejima right then and had hundreds of men out there. At least one of Joey's men was dead, laying in a pool of blood in the bank. That left Joey and one more man. Maybe a few more if he was trying to rebuild Southern Mayhem, but building a club took time, and like I said: time was on my side, not his.

All that they needed was a plan. Elise would help me make a plan, and I bet with her help, we wouldn't even lose one more man.

  Chapter 14

  Imogael

I had come down with a bad case of dependence, and I wasn't a fan. Being incapable of existing away from Scott's arms was not acceptable, and it was something I really needed to get over, and soon. It was fine to be in love with him, but it was another thing entirely to be obsessed or unable to be happy away from him.

So even though my teeth were chattering while I paced around the living room, I still did not go back to him. I let him learn what he needed to learn from the contents of the safety deposit box, letting him learn the truth. Whatever that truth was.

We already know that Joey Oregon was behind the murders, but I needed to know if Seraniel had anything to do with them, too. Part of me couldn't believe that an angel would ever let himself be used for the death of a human, but I also knew that Seraniel was barely a step above Lucifer in his opinion of humans.

He found them to be arrogant, self absorbed, and generally unworthy. That opinion was why he had spent so much of his life working with Hell. It was a punishment, meant to teach Seraniel humility. It only really served to make him more angry.

I wondered if Scott intended to kill the person behind all of this. It seemed unlikely that there was any other option. Joey had killed Starr, as well as Jin and others. He needed to pay. I just didn't like the idea of Scott killing him.

The way I was pacing was bound to wear marks into the wood below my feet. Stopping, I sighed. I needed something to do, something other than walking back and forth, lost in thought. But what was there that I could do, without Scott's help? How would I have dealt with a problem like this in Hell?

There weren't problems like this in Hell. There was a court that knew everything you had done, and ruled for or against you based on your past and your future. If you were found guilty of terrorism, you were sent to be eaten by Lucifer, for instance. That was also the punishment for theft. And murder. And pretty much everything else.

If I ever got back to Hell, that would probably be my fate, too. The other demons would no longer turn a blind eye to my fucking an angel, since I had also started fucking a human. I was pretty much doomed, but you know what? It was worth it.

But then I began to wonder. What did humans do when faced with demons? Then my next move became clear: I would put up protection spells, ones that would keep unwanted humans out. These same spells had been used for centuries to keep the damned out of certain parts of Hell, so I knew they were effective.

Using my finger and my breath, I started with the simplest spells. I would breathe on a piece of glass, then write out wards against intruders. It was important to get glass first, since it broke so easily. I went around the living room, promising to get the other rooms after, breathing onto the glass to steam it up.

Hell's written language is loopy and ornate, but I had learned it since I was but a demon child, so I wrote it fast.

After the windows, I decided to do the front door. I stepped up to it and thought about which spells would be best for wood. I couldn't carve anything into Scott's door without asking him first, but I could burn it into the flesh beneath the polished surface of the wood.

Just as I was starting the ward, out of the corner of my eye I saw movement on the street. My head flicked to that side, and I squinted. There was someone one the street. He walked closer, and I saw the dark skin. The large wings. I heard the flutter of feathers in soft wind.

  Seraniel.

Moving over to the window, I watched him as he stepped closer, stopping halfway down the street. He was watching me through the window, too, but he didn't move even one step closer than that.

The vision of him was no longer partially see-through. That meant that it was really him. Not just an apparition. That was Seraniel, in the flesh, on that road. He looked pale and sickly. My heart broke just to see him like that. Did he need my help?

I watched him for a while longer, but he truly did not move from that spot, and I realized I would have to make the first move. I stepped to the door, opening it and stepping outside into the cool night. The same breeze that was brushing past his feathers made my bright hair dance behind me.

Shutting the door behind me, I started to walk towards him, but he only floated further away. His long, black arms reached out to me, beckoning me to come closer. Inviting me into his warmth. My feet kept me moving forward, never once looking back. I had to get to Seraniel, to make sure he was okay.

“Seraniel, stop moving! Let me see you, I need to know if you're okay!”

He groaned, and with his groan, I blinked. I heard his wings flap, felt a gust of wind, and heard Scott shout my name. All in the blink of an eye, those things happened.

And even as I was still half-lidded, I heard a loud bang and felt a sharp, piercing pain in my abdomen. I reached down to touch it. Felt the hot liquid pouring from the hole. I knew I had been shot. I looked up, and it was no longer Seraniel in front of me. It was one of the men that Scott had tried to kill. Seraniel was gone.

Seraniel had worked with that man, and allowed him to shoot me.

I collapsed onto the ground, unable to even cry out in pain. Unable to do anything at all.

  Scott

I was already standing up when I heard the door softly open, the hinges squeaking, and then the click of the front door closing again. Wondering if Elise had decided to step outside for some fresh air, I thought I could join her. Fresh air might have cleared my head a bit.

The living room was empty. “Elise?” I called out, want
ing to be sure that she was outside and not that she had just come in. My stomach was growling. “Should have made dinner,” I grumbled, reaching for the doorknob.

That was when I saw Elise through the window. She was walking down the street, following someone that I couldn't really see. If wasn't that they were visible, but that my eyes blurred when I tried to focus on the person. They shifted to either side of the person, but never settled right on their body. It was disorienting and annoying, but worst of all, it was worrying.

“Elise!” I shouted, stepping out of the front door, but my voice seemed stifled. The air was thick, like on a hot and humid day, but it was cool outside. Nothing was making sense. The wind smelled faintly of roses.

Working up to a jog, I tried to reach her, to pull her away. Something wasn't right with the situation. I couldn't understand it, and Elise seemed agitated. What would have possessed her to go outside? Who was it that she saw, that I couldn't see?

Maybe it was her abuser, or the angel or whatever the fuck actually happened. Maybe she was confronting him. Was that something I should interrupt? I tried again to look at whoever it was that she was standing in front of, but she was blocking my view. I stepped to the side.

I heard the bang before I ever saw the gun. I screamed her name just before the bullet hit her. The air rushed out of her, but still she stood, and then I saw the person. I saw the motherfucker that had just shot Elise.

Nicholas Never, according to his passport, but I knew him as Sloan. He grew up a mama's boy but went wrong when she died. He was the motherfucker that started the rumor about me fucking Joey's girl.

He was behind all of this, way more than Joey was.

Elise crumpled to the ground just as I reached her. Blood was spilling from her body, dripping onto the cement of the road. “Oh Jesus. Oh fuck, Elise, it's going to be okay. Press down on your wound, stop the bleeding.” I glanced from her blood to Sloan.
