Caden invited some of his ex-service buddies to set up a boat repair shop and service centre, and they’re so good that we’re getting trade from as far as Aberdeen and Biarritz. Of course, Rex figured out instantly that short-term visitors enjoy buying souvenirs, so he set up a co-op where the village is selling everything from organic honey to pottery.
So, the marina was everything Rex hoped it would be. The newspapers call it one of the best-planned social development ventures of the decade, and he may even win an award for it. Wouldn’t that be great?
It’s been more than a commercial success, though. The day it was completed, Rex and Caden swapped keys. Officially, Rex now owns Perdition, and Caden has the marina. It made them happy, but frankly, it’s made very little difference. Caden lives at Perdition like he always has and Rex is running up to the marina on a daily basis.
It’s all good if you ask me. Fracas and I get along great, more like sisters than sisters-in-law, and the kids are joined at the hip. And it’s not like we’re short of space, right? Just as well really because Rachel, Alex, and the kids are round so often that they have their own rooms.
My news is pretty awesome too because I’ve moved from adult modelling into representation. Working with Rex put me on the map, and when the new Miss Bonnington asked me to get her some work, I put her together with Crystal Wave and the editor from Elle. It all snowballed from there. I now represent girls who work in mainstream media, and I also have girls who work in the adult market.
As for the village, Bonnington is booming. Rex’s events keep visitors flocking in, and now the Disciples are back in charge everyone is making money hand over fist. Crush is talking of buying a new bike, Viper is building a conservatory so his mum can enjoy the sun all year round, and Zero, Flash, Kraken, and DT have all been bitten by the golf club bug. Total and Speed have the most fun of all; they’ve taken up sailing.
So everyone is happy - well almost everyone. The Horde aren’t exactly cheering. Pig was sent down for five years, and his mates got hefty sentences too. It’s not like they’ll be gone forever, but they lost their stranglehold on Lincoln. Snake took over the northern part of the town, and Poison sent a team to take over one of the southern districts. The Horde still own a good chunk, but they’ve had their wings clipped.
Jason didn’t make it. While he was in lockup, waiting for his trial, he made some bathtub gin. It went wrong, and he died of methanol poisoning. I’m not sure how I feel about that. He was so amazingly gifted and yet there was all that evil. On the whole, I think I’m glad we don’t have to worry about him killing people, but it’s such a waste of a life.
The other pirates aren’t so happy either: Kennard and his board are miffed that they lost out. Not only did Polly make a fortune on a project they dropped but word went round that they were taken in by fake rumours put round by a bunch of bikers. So Kennard ended up looking like a prat, which he didn’t like very much.
David is round on a regular basis, just to ask if Rex has any projects. I’d tell him to sod off, but Rex encourages him and lets it be known that he wants to keep his options open. David hasn’t twigged yet, but I know punishment when I see it.
I love Rex to bits, but there’s no doubt that he’s got a streak of mean in him. It will take years of agonised waiting before David understands he’ll never make a penny from Rex, just like Percy’s never going to get his seat on the board. Rex doesn’t forgive, and he doesn’t forget.
Speaking of which...
“So, have you had time to think about your sins?” Rex is standing behind me, running his hands over the cuffs that keep me in place in front of the big four-poster.
“Pooh! I’m not afraid of you.”
“Is that so?” Rex’s breath huffs in my ear as he stands behind me, hands rubbing over my breasts. “Sexy,” he murmurs. His hands slide down, fingers stroking my clit.
The knowing touch sets me alight. I close my eyes, leaning back into the warm hard muscles. The signature sexy scent, masculine musk tinged with leather and tang, is working its usual magic.
His breath is quickening too. He’s as turned on as I am. The familiar hardness pushing against me confirms it. “Yum.”
“We were discussing your sins,” he growls.
I’m rubbing up against him, little gasps of excitement escaping from me. “You mean me letting the dogs ride in your Jag after they’d rolled in the stable manure heap?”
He stiffens, and it’s not his erection. “What?”
His skin is soft and his hands deliciously callused. His erection is hot and hard, though, and rubbing myself all over it is driving that fire nicely. “You didn’t know?” I teased. “Maybe you didn’t hear I washed down the Stubbs with washing up soap?” I was so turned on that I was sagging at the knees. “I never liked that dapple grey anyway. Rubbing off the spots made that horse much classier.”
Now he’s laughing, the game momentarily forgotten. “Lacy, do you know what you are?”
“A viscountess.” Yes, it’s true. I’m Lacy Winslow, Lady Ravenshurst. What a laugh, right? We married ten months ago, a glorious white wedding in Bonnington church with six bridesmaids and every seat filled. We threw a huge party in the village square after and had the time of our lives.
“You’re a minx,” Rex murmurs. The hands are running all over me, reducing me to delicious quivers. “Open your mouth.” He’s placing a pencil between my teeth. “Drop it,” he whispers, “and I stop.”
It’s a game, and it’s one of my favourites. Also, it’s one that I’m good at. We stand there, entwined, our breaths coming out in short, sharp, excited gasps as we move against each other in pulsing needing want. It’s a rhythm as old as love, and we are drowning in passion.
The hands are hard on my hips. “Oh dear God, I want you!”
I drop the pencil. “I win! Fuck me, Rex!”
He’s laughing as he stands back. “You win? Are you sure?”
I’m dancing for him, aching with need. “Pleeeeeease?”
We come together, hot solid flesh possessing me. Rocking along in sensual rhythm, we gasp and groan in excited unison, twisting and arching as passion soars and consumes us.
I’m shattering, squealing as sweet shuddering ecstasy overwhelms my senses. He groans in my ear as he pulses inside me, holding me steady in his embrace as he explodes in short, staccato waves of white-hot climax.
A careful twist releases the cuffs that hold me, and we collapse on the bed. “I don’t know how you do it, but you get sexier by the minute.” He’s kissing me, shivering with aftershocks of delight.
“You’re not so bad yourself.” I smooch his shoulder, putting my feet up on his legs.
We lie there in perfect harmony, simply enjoying ourselves.
“Talking about Stubbs and muck covered pups,” Rex murmurs, “Mia’s birthday is coming up.”
As if I could forget. The secret of her birth is safe forever now. Mia believes that her birth daddy loved her but regrettably died in an accident. To be honest, she isn’t bothered because she and Rex are closer than blood. She tells everyone he’s the best father in the world, and that she picked him herself.
Mia was born a happy soul but these days she’s just glowing. She’s always had Rachel and Alex, but when I married Rex, he adopted Mia. So my little one now has Aunt Fracas and Uncle Caden, godmothers Ulke and Lady Constance, and she’s adopted the Disciples as honorary uncles.
Add in the Pony Club, the entire Form One cohort at school plus favourites like Uncle Wally and Aunt Suzie and you can see why her birthday party is going to be a stormer.
“I was thinking of a special present,” Rex says happily.
That’s Rex all over. When it comes to friends and family, Rex is generous to the bone. He adored Mia from the moment he met her, and he spoils her rotten every chance he gets. “What about Snowflake?”
“He’s getting on a bit. I think he’ll be happy living with the donkeys and other retirees in the sanctuary. Mia can visit him every
day.”
And did I mention he’s got a soft spot for animals that just won’t quit? “She’d probably love a pony, but when she asks if it can sleep in her room, you’re to forbid it.”
“I know that,” he protests.
“Do you? Because we said no dogs in the bed and yet Casper and Duchess are in with her before I even turn out the light.”
“They’re guard dogs,” Rex protests.
“And I suppose Sheba, Hermes, and Mr. Sizzles are guard cats?”
“Exactly,” Rex grins.
“Well, I guess it’s a good thing that we have all those furries looking after us,” I tell him casually. “With all those long corridors, it would be hell to string up baby alarms. Much better to have a cat or dog pass the news that the baby’s awake.”
For a moment Rex is totally still. Then he sits up, grinning from ear to ear. “You’re pregnant?”
“Yes, but it was a joint effort, love. You did your part too, if you remember.”
“Oh, Lacy!” He’s throwing his arms around me, and to my amazement, I see he has tears in his eyes. “I’ve never been happier,” he whispers.
I hug him back. “I had a look at the calendar and I think it will be a Christmas baby.”
“Perfect,” he sighs. And then the blue eyes are sparkling. “Ohmigod, we have to call Caden! And does Rachel know? Crush is going to be pumped!”
Before I can answer, he’s on his phone. “I’m going to tell them straight away.” Then, kissing me. “You rest, love. Put your feet up.” His hand is on my tummy. “I just can’t believe it.”
I have to laugh because I know that in half an hour’s time, Perdition will be filled with people, all wanting to share our happy news. Awesome, right?
I still can’t quite believe how much my life has changed. Just a short time ago it was looking pretty grim. Even on my best days, I was a bit lonely and fearful of the future. As for Rex, he was all screwed up, wholly devastated by too much loss and heartache.
But we came together, healing our hurts, learning better ways, and finding the beauty of life again. Now we revel in our happiness, sharing love, family, friends, and laughter. Also, a tonne of dogs, cats, and other pets.
But the new pony will sleep in the stable with all the other horses and donkeys. I’m putting my foot down on that.
