  The statue itself is that of a single Arzern, wings spread, carving an arc across their blue sky. The poem first read by our First President, Agnes Soulone, is set in stone at its foot.

  There are many such monuments across all of Here-Born.

  A particular note of interest for the many students who have asked after Once-Other.

  It is rumored that Martin du Fleurs was Once-Other’s actual name. His last name, Maggie’s, and some others are signatories on their Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights.

  Look it up.

  Tull-Tor Hawkur signed his poem three days after Agnes Soulone’s inauguration.

  Other than Once-Other’s name—real ones appear in this edition.

  It is also rumored, that on the day Karrell was rescued and Agnes Soulone was given the eChip, Once-Other had whispered his real name to her.

  In my humble opinion keeping Karrell’s presence secret during those times and not allowing herself to enter it on record was a tough task. As are all tasks requiring one not do something.

  As historical records show, Here-Born’s invasion of Earth was unique in all of history. Unlike any before they did not attack us nor did they attack our institutes nor our government nor anything else—with violence.

  There has been endless discussion of the fact that they used our own systems and technology and bypassed everything including our previous political system and its embedded government apparatus—The Department for the Assurance of Happiness.

  Here-Born’s mission commanders made no effort to destroy what was in place, but it vanished as a new political system was built parallel to it in a truly rapid evolution.

  In so doing they have given us our own UWMD, which is now part of our Constitution.

  Should it happen that our government goes rogue in the future, there will be no need to try changing it from within itself should it be beyond repair as it was before.

  Instead, we will do as Here-Born did to us and set up a parallel political system. One that returns us to what we adopted back in the day with active defenses in place. Thereby we leave the corrupted one to evolve into the new. In its end, only the corrupt and criminal will continue to cling to it.

  And should we, perchance, fall back to the times when vast sums are donated to election campaigns we’d simply set up the election website again. And using said donations we’d advertise the utilization of the election website and promote candidates who enroll to run for office via the website alone. And use its reach to explain and to get more candidates to run there too.

  This starts a new evolution, not a revolt nor revolution.

  That’s why the website and the voting system.

  It’s so easy to change something by setting up the new without attempting to undo, let alone destroy what is. The chief difference will be time involved for we will be evolving to a new system not starting and running a revolution to get a new system. Neither is it an endless evolution but instead a short and fast one of but a few years.

  A welcome change from history past.

  And so those of us who care to ponder on it realize that we have not as yet qualified to receive Fragger technology from Here-Born.

  But as President Agnes Soulone said in her acceptance speech...the Here-Born UWMD is now a part of our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

  And it is a weapon.

  Yes. It is the ideas of our Constitution and Bill of Rights that defends us for all time, not weapons, let alone Fraggers.

  Not that we shun active defense as and when needed.

  And may the practice of divide and rule never again be exercised upon us.

  And as they say on Here-Born, “Live by Neatness alone fellow citizens!”

  CO2 captures...massive and deep ditches dug in the sand into which CO2 flows and from there into Converters where carbon and oxygen are separated and oxygen is released into the atmosphere (Plants, trees, and oceans do this naturally). CO2 is heavier than air and so sinks to lower elevations.

  CO2/CO...carbon dioxide...the gas that comes off most anything that burns, too much will suffocate one, it is heavier than air and so collects in low-lying places. CO (carbon monoxide) is what automobiles exhaust. It can be burned with oxygen and then becomes CO2.

  Collect-n-grind...a flexible pipe-like rock grinder which moves on wheels and can be guided, which ingests rock, crushes it into a fine powder in stages, and like a vacuum cleaner sends the resulting powder to the surface.

  Colloquialism...not formal or literary.

  Comm-link...a communications link.

  Comeuppance...noun, informal; a punishment or fate that one deserves.

  Constellation...a way to break up the sky. Stars (Suns) in a constellation can be many light-years apart. Some constellation names are Ursa Major (Great Bear), Centaurus (Centaur) and in Once-Other the fictional Rio Tero (River Tero).

  Countenance...a person’s face or facial expression.

  C-POP...Criminal Pre-Owned Parts.

  Crier fan...a handheld fan used when taking water from a Water Crier.

  Lenin, Vladimir… was a Russian communist revolutionary, politician, and political theorist. He served as head of government of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic from 1917 and of the Soviet Union from 1922 until his death. Under his administration the Russian Empire was replaced by the Soviet Union; all wealth including land, industry and business was nationalized (confiscated/stolen from those who owned it). Based on Marxism (see Karl Marx) his political theories are known as Leninism.

  Marx, Karl…a German philosopher, economist, sociologist, historian, journalist, and revolutionary socialist. Marx’s economics laid the basis for much of the twisted understanding of labor and its relation to capital (free economy—though more so Capitalism, which is not the same as a free economy). He published numerous books during his lifetime, the most notable being The Communist Manifesto (1848) and Das Kapital (1867–1894). Marx’s theories about society, economics, and politics – known as Marxism – holds that human societies progress through class struggle. The basic idea is that there is a conflict between an ownership class that controls production and a labor class that provides the labor for production. Marx believed capitalism produced internal tensions which would lead to its self-destruction and would be replacement by a new system: socialism. He argued that class hatred under capitalism would result in the working class’ conquest of political power and eventually establish a classless society, communism. Marx actively fought to bring about communist socialism, arguing that the working class should carry out organized revolutionary action to topple capitalism and so bring about social and economic change. So much for the ‘natural conflict’ idea.
