Her New Boss: A Hotwife Novel

  Of course it wasn’t just because he was a billionaire in his own right that he had the time and inclination to pursue art. That had always been his passion. He had a minor in visual arts and a major in business, and that’s how we met at one of his exhibitions. I didn’t even know who he was or what he was worth until we got engaged and I saw the budget for our wedding. A budget I promptly nixed because I wasn’t going to have grandpa Arnold’s idea of a lavish wedding no matter how much he tried to make it happen.

  Derek had a real head for business, and with some of the seed money his grandfather had given him he’d made a fortune in his own right several times over before he decided to give it up and pursue art as a full-time career. And of course he’d succeeded there like he did with everything else. Now he mostly did charity work for the Thomas Foundation, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t welcome to dip his toe in the family business whenever he wanted.

  In fact I think it was a something grandpa Albert probably welcomed. He’d always supported the art stuff even if he never quite understood it. Especially when Derek was so good at making money.

  “Well I sit on the board of the Thomas Corporation,” Derek said. “And grandpa still likes me to do some due diligence on any new acquisitions we make.”

  “Acquisitions?” Ryan asked. That hunted look was getting more and more pronounced with every passing moment.

  “Have a seat Ryan,” the senior Arnold said. When Ryan made no move to sit down Joe violently slammed his fist down on the table. That seemed to get through to Ryan finally and he took a seat. I moved around the table to sit next to my husband who turned and smiled at me.

  “I have some news for you and your father,” the Joe said. “I’ve decided I’m selling the company to the Thomas Corporation who made a very generous offer. A generous offer that’s going to make me an even wealthier man than I am already.”

  “What?” Ryan’s dad screamed.

  “You can’t do that!” Ryan shouted.

  The Joe leaned back in his chair and chuckled. “I can do exactly that. It’s my company, my money, and it’s my decision on whether or not we sell.”

  “But I’ve spent my entire life building this company!” Ryan’s dad shouted.

  Jim was stopped mid-rant by a motion from Joe. “Correction. I built this company and gave it to you. I’d always hoped you might take it over, might continue on the noble tradition of our name, but you’ve squandered it. And so I’m selling. As far as I’m concerned neither one of you is ever going to see a cent of my fortune.”

  “You can’t do that!” Ryan said.

  “All but I can, and I will,” Joe said.

  He smiled, clearly relishing this moment. I had a feeling he’d been tired of all the crap from his potential successors for quite some time. I looked between the senior Arnold and grandpa Albert, as I called him, and marveled that two families so similar with such vast resources could turn out so differently.

  “But what charities my money goes to when I move on is none of your business. We’ll sort that out with the lawyers,” Joe said.

  Ryan slumped down in his seat, utterly defeated. His dad looked like he was on the verge of having a heart attack right there at the table, his face was purple and his bald spot was an even deeper scarlet.

  “But you can’t do that…” Ryan muttered almost under his breath but loud enough for everyone in the room to hear.

  Joe Arnold stood and shook hands with grandpa Albert. “I’d like to thank you for your generous offer.”

  “Oh it had nothing to do with me. This was all Derek’s doing,” grandpa Albert said.

  Ryan’s head shot up at that and he almost looked angry for a moment, but it was quickly replaced by a vacant haunted expression.

  Derek held his arm out and I took it gladly, a wide grin on my face. We walked towards the other end of the board room. As we reached the end of the conference room table we stopped and Derek looked down at Ryan who stared up with tears in his eyes. It really was a pity that a man that pretty, that handsome, had to be such an asshole.

  I smiled down at him, deciding to be magnanimous in victory. “Sorry Ryan. We could’ve had a lot more fun together, but that was before you decided to make your life limiting move on Friday.”

  Epilogue: The New New Boss

  I leaned back in the ridiculously comfortable chair and kicked my feet up on the mahogany desk. This really was my favorite way to work, and there was something about leaning back like this in a chair and a desk that probably cost close to what I used to make in a year that made it even more fun.

  Whatever his other faults, Ryan definitely had excellent taste before he got the boot. Derek sat on the edge of the desk looking down at me.

  “That was fun,” he said.

  “You’re telling me! Though it’s still a pity,” I said.

  A smile split Derek’s face. “Oh really? So when do we explore this fantasy some more?”

  “Well I think we need to be a little more careful about how we select the candidates moving forward.”

  Derek nodded with mock severity. “I couldn’t agree with you more.”

  I looked up at him with a twinkle in my eye. “You know while we’re waiting to fulfill that particular fantasy, there is another fantasy I think you could help me with.”

  Derek raised an eyebrow. “Oh? What’s that?”

  I stood and moved over to the massive window that looked out on the human resources department. On my department. It I’d learned nothing else in my time working in corporate America, it was that it wasn’t about how hard you worked but who you knew. And I had one hell of a “who you knew” now. I had one hell of an in with the new owner, you might say.

  I smiled at that view of the department before pulling the blinds closed. Nobody was out there anyways, I’d sent everybody home early supposedly to celebrate the new acquisition but mostly because I wanted some time alone with my husband. Still, you couldn’t be too careful. Someone might’ve decided to stay late despite the new boss telling them to go. There were plenty of workaholics like that out there, like what I used to be.

  I turned and advanced on Derek who was still leaning back on Ryan’s desk. On my new desk.

  “Well here’s the thing,” I said, biting my lip. “I’ve always had this fantasy about seducing the sexy company owner in my office…”

  Ryan grinned and I smiled.

  “I love you babe,” he said.

  “I love you too.”

  We could explore this fantasy some more later. Right now I desperately needed to fuck my husband!
