He felt ashamed. He had been with several women since he came here.

“Oh, don’t feel like that. Daniel, it was part of my command for you.”

He frowned. “You commanded me to have sex?”

“Not exactly, but I gave you the suggestion to enjoy yourself. And to fuck any pretty girl you wanted. I didn’t think I’d be part of your life and I wanted you to be happy.”

He took her face in his hands and touched her lips tenderly with his own. He could feel the passion ignite in her immediately and he moved in to make love to her mouth with a hungry tongue. A hungry tongue. Oh, yeah…

He pulled back and looked at her.

“You drink blood. You’ve fed on me. I remember that now.”

“Yes, Daniel. I do need to drink from you and have sex with you. You loved it. Do you remember that?”

He thought about it for a second and the memories assaulted him. He smiled then.

“Oh, yes, I remember that.” He stared at her for a moment and then slipped the spaghetti straps on the little sundress off her shoulders and watched it slide slowly down to pool around her hips. Her breasts glowed in the soft light, the darkness behind her outlining them in velvet.

He couldn’t stop staring and then lowered his mouth to pull one nipple, and then the other, into his mouth.

  “They’re fuller than before.”

She drew a deep breath and captured his face in her hands again, her fingers smoothing the long dark hair back away from eyes she thought must be able to see into her soul.

“That’s one reason why I’m here. It’s a miracle that you won’t understand until I explain it, but, Daniel, you have given me the greatest gift anyone ever could. You have given me a child.”

He was shocked. More than all the other suddenly recovered memories, this shocked him the most.

“But, you said you were a vampire. You can’t have offspring, right? Isn’t that how it works?”

“Movies. But, essentially, yes, baby, that’s how it works. It is extremely rare for us to find someone who is biologically compatible with us to create a child. And Daniel, you are just such a rare human. We’ve made a son, Daniel, and he wants to meet you. Here, let me introduce you.”

She put his hand on her belly and touched his forehead with hers. Their spirits merged and Daniel moved past the mortal barrier into her spirit world, and saw her, completely and truly for what she was. And the little boy who grew steadily inside this woman he was in love with. His son. A vampire. Something he still didn’t fully understand. Yet he loved him from that first second.

Moments later when she pulled him back and he sat confused in his own skin, Daniel shook his head and stood up. He dropped his white slacks into the warm wet sand.

Eillia stared at him, fully engorged and begging for her. She stood then, too, and let her dress drop away. The little thong slipped down leaving them both naked in every way, physically and emotionally, on the quiet beach. They just looked at each other for a few moments, relearning each other, their eyes scanning each other’s waiting body. The sound of waves crashing against the shoreline was interrupted only by their breathing, which was deeper each second.

Then he lifted her, and she wrapped her arms around his shoulder and head as he leaned back against the rocks for support and pushed inside her. Heaven. Perfection.

“I won’t hurt him?” Daniel whispered.

“No, baby,” Eillia whispered back, and began to move.

“I’ve never known anything like this. I’ve never loved anyone before, Eillia. I didn’t think I ever could,” he said on a thrust.

“You have deep capacity for love. I can feel it when I touch you. You love me so much. You’ve loved me for so long even before you knew me.”

With even, slow strokes he moved inside the woman who changed his world. He put his lips to her ear.

“I do love you,” he whispered, “But I can’t believe you love me. No one ever has.”

Eillia squeezed her eyes as they filled with tears for the little boy and the man who had never known love.

“That’s all over now. You have family. You have a child who will love you forever. And Daniel, for vampires, forever is a very long time.”

She felt the orgasm begin. “I’ll bring you over. You’ll be vampire, too. But for now, may I?”

He began to shudder as he climaxed and felt her pierce him and begin to drink. The orgasm exploded in them both and he cried out.

When she finished, both her orgasm and blood draw, they dropped together, tangled limbs and moist skin, onto the sand.

  His face was wet.

Eillia got onto her knees and kissed him all over his cheeks, nose and forehead.

“We’re family now. It’s what you want, right?”

“More than anything. I want to be with you and our son more than anything.”

“Okay. I’d like to stay here with you before we go back to face my family. I want to hold you and make love to you until we can’t walk. You have a problem with that?”

Daniel swung her up into his arms and power walked up the incline to the glass front house he’d bought when he came here.

“Anything you want. Anything you ever want.”

“You might want to watch those kinds of statements when we live as long as we do.”

He brought her through the house and into the bedroom where a huge bed faced an open balcony, he lowered her down and crawled on top of her.

“I mean every word. And if being a vampire means I get to love you for centuries instead of decades, I’m in.”

Daniel ran his hands up and down her body, sliding across her breasts, gently moving over the growing bump of her belly.

Eillia smiled and stretched out to enjoy the attention. Inside, a happy child waited for the day he could come out and meet his parents.

Koen had just finished his breakfast buffet, served for the first two hours after rising, when Bas’s first lieutenant, Jake, called him to the door.

“There’s a young woman here. I don’t know her, but she’s asking for someone named Lia. I assume she means Eillia. Anyway, you want to see what she wants? She’s human.”

“Huh,” Koen said. He walked to the huge double doors that were always protected by a vampire sentry.

She was a cute little thing. Long lush dark hair, pulled high into a loose curly mess on top of her head. Very nice body. And an electric smile. The smile took her from cute to gorgeous.

“Hi,” he said, probably too friendly. It had been too long since he’d let himself do a blood meal with sex and he was horny as hell. Wouldn’t be a good idea to do that with one of Eillia’s girlfriends. Probably.

“Hi.” Nice voice, strong, pleasant, feminine.

“My name is Starla, and Eillia doesn’t know I’m here. I worked with her at a restaurant in Alaska. It’s called the Blue Star. Has she mentioned me?”

“No, she hasn’t. So, how did you find us here?”

“Well, kind of went through the back door of technology. She made a call from my cell phone, and it has GPS tracking. A friend of mine helped me track the call to here. I know it’s presumptuous of me. But, um…look, Eillia and I really hit it off and I sort of needed to get out of that freezer box I lived in, so I hoped she wouldn’t mind if I came to visit.”

“Sorry, but she’s not here right now. She’s out of the country.”

“Oh. Well, guess that’s what I get for being presumptuous. Do you have any idea when she’ll be back?”

“None. I think she’s pretty happy where she is.”

“Okay. I took a room in Saint-Cyprien last night. I guess I’ll head back. Just, if you could let her know I was here? Tell her to call me. So, uh, nice to meet you and thanks.”

He watched her walk away and hesitated before he closed the door. Should he compel her memory? It didn’t seem like she knew anything. No, it was okay. As she started to get into her rented car, he saw her pause and look back at the villa for several minutes, then fi
nally get in and drive slowly away.

“Jake,” Koen called out. When Jake came around the corner, he motioned to him. “That little lovely motivated me. I need a blood meal and a good fuck or two. I’m going to hit the tavern. Do you want to come?”

Jake shrugged his shoulders. Sounded good to him, because the pretty little thing had revved his engine, too. For some reason, he’d wanted to touch her hair.

“Like the plan. I’ll pull the car around.”

The little tavern down the road held several very lovely girls who were always up for blood and sex. He palmed his cock, which hardened immediately. Yeah, it had been way too long.

Hours later, satiated in every way, Koen awakened to banging on his door as he prepared to go down for his daytime rest.

With a growl, he got up to answer.

  “What!?” he barked.

  It was Jake.

“Got a problem. You know that girl from earlier tonight? Just got a call. She had an accident. I guess a car hit her as she was leaving the hotel. This address and phone number were the only thing on her, so they called here. They wanted to let us know she’s badly injured. Probably dying.”

“Seriously? Oh, fuck! Give me my phone.”

He dialed a number and a sleepy Eillia answered.

“So, things went well, I assume.” He listened for a moment and then cut her off. “Oh, enough of that. You’re practically purring. Yuk. Listen, do you know a pretty little human named Starla?”

Eillia sat up in Daniel’s bed.

  “Yes. From Alaska. Why?”

“She found her way here. And I guess she got herself into a bad accident . Jake says she’s dying. Do you want us to go in and get her?”

Koen listened for a moment. Then nodded and said goodbye.

He threw the phone back at Jake.

“Do me a solid and go in, assess the situation. Eillia wants us to save her if possible.”

“Blood to heal, or as far as turning if it won’t?”

“I don’t know. Either. Both. Use your judgment. Bas trusts you. So do I. Call me when you know the deal.”

Jake headed back out, concerned about the coming daylight, and wondered who the little human was that Eillia was so worried about.

Another day in the life of a vampire, he thought.

  The End…for now.

  Epilogue

Jake compelled his way past everyone to gain entrance to the critical care unit of the hospital where the extremely injured girl lay after surgery. Her nurse shook her head and told him she probably wouldn’t survive. If she did, her head injuries were so severe she’d likely never come out of her current comatose state or be heavily impaired.

  Humans were just so fragile!

He entered the darkened room and walked up to the girl who bore little resemblance to the lovely young woman he’d met only hours earlier with the brightest smile he’d ever seen. He remembered his first reaction when he saw her at the door of the villa. Innocence, purity, beauty. The wild mass of rich chocolate brown hair was gone, shaved, and her head was wrapped in bandages. The soft features were swollen and discolored. What a shame.

He put his hand on her and tried to sense her energy. Jake wasn’t first blood, so he did not have their powerful abilities, but he was still a strong vampire, and could read energy levels. Hers was nearly gone. Yes, she was dying.

Walking over to the door, he locked it and moved back to the bedside. He’d already compelled the nursing staff to ignore anything happening in this room. The girl was intubated, so he unplugged the equipment, pulled the tube, and sat down beside her. Using a small pocketknife he usually carried with him, he neatly slit his wrist and held it to her mouth. She gave no resistance as his blood pumped into her. After a few moments, she gagged. A good sign, he thought. No reaction to vampire blood would mean she was beyond help. Unless he turned her.

It didn’t look like that would be necessary. Thankfully. Too much responsibility. This past year had been a bitch and he didn’t want any more complications. He was thinking about making some changes. Didn’t know what, though.

She opened her eyes and looked at him. Jake pulled his wrist away and stared back.

“Hi,” he said, aware that, even in her condition, she seemed confused. “You’ve been in an accident. I’m your…” He hesitated, then smiled. “I’m Dr. Jacob. We’re taking very good care of you. Just go back to sleep.”

But she didn’t. She stared at him with frightened eyes until he “impressed” her to sleep, which she finally did.

Well, his work was finished. He just had to stick around to make sure that any blood tests they ordered were destroyed for the next few days, and compel her to forget.

Luckily, in a hospital, there were plenty of window-free rooms he could over-day in. And a cafeteria filled with, if not good, at least edible food. He headed there now after leaving a compulsion with the nurse that if anyone came for blood, to call him on his cell phone.

On the fourth floor, that time of night, the cafeteria was deserted. The food choices were poor, but he was hungry, so he took what he could, and sat down with his tablet computer to look at real estate. He was just feeling restless these days and didn’t really know why. Thought he might want to take off for a while. There was a moment a few weeks ago when he found himself asking if maybe he had just been alive too long.

Jake shook his head and stretched. Just another crazy year. No need to fall on his sword. Anyway, he had a mission right now, and that took priority over everything else for the moment. He cleaned up, tucked the small computer back in an inside pocket of his jacket, and walked like a normal human back up to the sixth floor where his little human was hopefully continuing her vampire-blood assisted recovery. The nurse smiled as he passed her station, and automatically reached up to smooth her hair. That wasn’t compulsion. She was just reacting to him. He knew he was sexy, and the reaction was common. This part of being vampire he’d always loved. Giving her a wide smile, he leaned down and touched her cheek with a sensual “impression.” As he walked away he heard her moan quietly.

Entering the still darkened room, he expected to bring the girl alert and assess his progress.

That didn’t happen. She was gone. What the fuck?! With her injuries, she shouldn’t have been mobile yet. It had only been about an hour. He checked the bathroom. Empty. Hurrying back out to the pretty nurse, he leaned over the counter.

"Where's the girl? The one in 602? The car accident?”

  She looked confused.

“She’s comatose. She’s still in her bed.”

He shook his head. “No, she’s not. Did you see her come by here? Did you see her leave?”

Now the nurse looked completely confused. Jake put his hands on her head. Uh, uh. What the…

Competing compulsions. Someone else had compelled her tonight. He was compelling her to tell him the girl’s whereabouts and someone else had compelled her to forget.

Okay, well, she had his blood in her. He should be able to track her. As he walked out of the ICU, he reached for her. Nothing. He tried again, using all his vampire abilities . No. He couldn’t find her.

Fuck! Jake grabbed his cell and dialed. When he heard it pick up, he sighed.

“Koen, we’ve got a big problem!”
