In the car on the way to the crib Quita was telling all her girls how Timmy was blowing her phone up all day during Trey’s farewell service.
“Damn bitch what did you do to that nigga?” Lexi asked with her smart ass.
Kali had to throw her two cents in. “Yeah baby sis what you got down there? I heard you had Chris crazy ass climbing through windows in the middle of the night to get that ass!” Kali said. With that said the whole crew burst into laughter. Quita laughed right along with them, but she was also pissed because she was trying to make a point and her girls had mad jokes.
“You know what? Fuck all y’all bitches. I’m just trying to tell y’all that shit is not the norm for that nigga he never calls that much. Something has to be wrong.
“Look, maybe he just missing you or some shit,” Kali suggested.
“No Kali, I don’t think that’s it. Like I said he never calls this much.”
“Do you owe him some money?” Dashiki asked trying to be funny.
“No bitch maybe he trying to tell me you owe his ass some money. I mean being that you always trying to borrow money from niggas.” The entire car got silent. They could tell Quita was livid at the statement that Dashiki just made. Before Shiki could respond to Quita’s comment her cell phone started ringing.
She looked at the caller Id and it was Timmy again. She quickly pressed the talk button to accept the call.
“Hello…hello…hello,” she repeated over and over. “You know what? I’m hanging up now.”
“Quita baby don’t hang up, I’m here.”
“What the hell are you doing? Why didn’t you say anything? I kept saying hello.”
“I’ve been calling you for hours. Where the fuck you at?” Timmy spat.
“Why the hell are you talking to me like you crazy? Timmy, I don’t know if you aware or not, but Trey…” There was a long pause before Quita could finish. “He was shot and killed almost a week ago. I was at his funeral and my phone was on silent. That’s why I didn’t answer.”
“Oh word,” Timmy said not moved at all by what she had just said.
“Yeah word nigga.”
“Yo ma, what happened to you the other night when you was supposed to come see me? I told you we needed to talk.
“Shit nigga, I fell asleep waiting for the cab.” Quita lied.
“Oh okay. Well look baby I need to see you on the real,” Timmy said in a low whispering tone.
“Timmy why the fuck is you whispering? Do you honestly think that I’m gonna just drop everything I’m doing and cater to you?”
“Come on Quita stop trying to be funny in front of you peeps. I hear em’ in the back ground snickering and shit.”
“I’m not trying to be funny for nobody.” Quita snapped back.
“Look Quita, I didn’t call you to argue with you. I just need to talk to you bout some real deep shit ma.”
“Okay Timmy. I’ll have Lexi drop me off by the crib in like ten minutes,” Quita said giving in.
“Nah baby girl no good. I’m not at home right now,” Timmy told her.
“Well, where you at then? I can come to you.”
“I had to leave the crib real fast. Look ma, go over Kali’s crib and wait for me. I’ll be there in an hour,” Timmy said.
“Okay, just call me when you get outside the building, and don’t take all damn day either,” Quita said.
“A’ight baby thank you,” Timmy told her disconnecting the call. When Quita hung up the phone Lexi and Kali had mad jokes.
“Damn ho, what you got down between ya legs? You got that nigga blowing you up during a funeral and shit,” Lexi teased.
“Damn girl that nigga got yo ass whipped! If the dick is that good let me make sure I don’t run into anything like that,” Kali chimed in.
Quita waved her hand and dismissed their comments. She wasn’t in the mood to argue with any of them. She was too busy trying to focus on what Timmy had up his sleeve.
When they pulled up the projects Quita was the first to hop out the car and head for Kali’s apartment. Lexi and Kali were behind her. The rest of her girls went their own separate ways.
When she got inside she headed straight to the shower. When she got out of the shower she rolled herself a fat ass blunt so she could relax. Quita got dressed and went downstairs to join Kali and Quita in the living room while she waited for Timmy to pick her up.
Three hours had passed and there was no word from Timmy’s trifling ass. That was the reason she didn’t want to fuck with Timmy anymore. He never kept his word.
“Kali y’all see? That’s why I don’t fuck with that nigga. He’s a fuckin’ liar, and he never keeps his word bout shit,” Quita cursed.
“Damn Quita quit trippn’ he might’ve had some business to handle.” Lexi told her.
“Yeah that might be true Lexi, but he said he would be here in an hour.” She looked at the time on her cell phone. “It’s been three fucking hours! The least he could do was call to let me know something,” Quita spat.
“Okay baby sis chill out and let’s take a drink. Fuck his ass.” Kali wanted to take Quita’s mind off Timmy not being there and she knew a few drinks would do the trick. Before Quita could take a drink her cell phone started ringing.
Not bothering to look at the caller ID to see who the call was from she quickly took the call. “It’s about muthafuckin’ time you called! Where the fuck you at?” She yelled into the phone.
“Quita this is Nate,” the caller said.
“Oh shit! Nate, I am so sorry. I thought you were somebody else. What’s up?” Quita asked. The phone went silent for a few moments.
“Hello, hello. Nate? You still there?” Quita questioned.
“Yeah I’m still here. I just got word on who pulled the trigger on my ‘lil brother.”
“Oh shit, are you serious? Who was it?” After another long pause Nate finally answered her.
“It was your boy Timmy,” Nathaniel told her through clenched teeth.
Quita grabbed her chest and fell back onto the couch in shock.
“Wha…wha…what oh my God! Nathaniel you can’t be serious. Who told you that?” Quita asked.
“I got the information from a reliable source Quita, and I know I can trust ‘em. I wouldn’t say that shit if I didn’t believe it,” Nathaniel told her.
Quita was taken aback. She didn’t know what to say.
“Nate, maybe you source ain’t that reliable. I don’t think he would do that.”
“Come on Quita I know that Timmy is you dude, but everybody knows the nigga ain’t working with a full deck. Especially when it comes to you. That nigga psycho,” Nate said.
Kali and Lexi were looking at Quita and back and forth at each other trying to figure out what they were talking about. They could only catch bits and pieces.
“Okay Nate, I’ll give you that one. I’m just saying I know Timmy be acting crazy sometimes, but murder! That’s a hard pill to swallow. I really don’t know what to say. This shit is crazy,” Quita said both confused and sick to her stomach.
Lexi and Kali stood there blown away at what they had just heard Quita say.
“Nate I guarantee you if I find out he did that shit!” There was such a long pause after Quita’s comment. Nate had to call her name several times before she responded.
“I swear on everything I love if I find out Timmy did kill Trey I will fuck him up my goddamn self,” Quita said breaking down crying again. “Nate, give me a minute to gather my thoughts and call me back. I can’t even think straight right now.”
“I will Quita, just promise me you’ll try to relax baby girl. Don’t let it get to you. I’ll see what went down and hit you later.”
“I will definitely try Nate, but after news like this I honestly don’t know how I can.”
“Quita one thing I know is that you’re strong ass mufuckin’ chick. Just stay strong and I’ll hit you a little bit later,” Nathaniel told her.
“Okay that’s cool. Bye Nate,”
Quita said.
Quita sit on the couch in a daze wondering if Timmy could have actually done that to Trey. She knew it was weird how Timmy kept calling her like crazy after she learned abut Trey’s murder. She didn’t think it was no crazy ass shit like this.
Finally after sitting there for a minute, she ran down the whole story to Lexi and Kali, who were anxiously waiting to hear what happened.
“ That shit is crazy,” Kali said shaking her head.
“You think that’s why that nigga been blowing you up like that?” Lexi asked.
“I dunno, but I’m damn sure gonna find out. I just can’t stop thinking about Trey, Y’all, I miss him so much. I just pray that Timmy didn’t do that shit to him.” Kali felt her baby sister’s pain. She knew that when it came to love Quita fell hard.
“I know you miss him Quita, but you also have to understand that he’s in a better place now,” Kali told her.
“Yeah Quita, I know it hurts, but he’s home now,” Lexi said.
“I know and thanks for the support, but it’s just a hard thing to go through. I’m just bugging, ‘cause I know Timmy didn’t like him. Could he really have killed Trey?” She asked them.
“Quita you know I love you. You’re my baby sister, but Timmy is a donut short of a dozen. He scares me from time to time I just never mentioned it to you,” Kali said. Quita then looked over at Lexi who was taking a drink of her Heineken.
“What you looking at me for?” Lexi asked.
“Well how do you feel about Timmy?”
“On the real Quita he is strange as a mufucka, and he is crazy as hell ‘bout you. There’s no telling what he might do. I mean I hope he didn’t do that shit to my nigga, but it really wouldn’t surprise me if he did,” Lexi told her.
“Yeah Lexi you right, but I just don’t think he would take it that far,” Quita said biting her bottom lip as she stared into space.
The doorbell chimed, snapping her out of her daze. Quita jumped to her feet with the quickness. Kali and Lexi followed suit. They all stood there unsure of what to do, because they knew Timmy was expected to drop by at any minute.
“Who is it?” Kali yelled through the door, but no one answered. The doorbell kept ringing.
“I said who the fuck is it?” Kali repeated.
“It’s Jade, let me in girl.”
“Okay, but who with you?” Kali asked.
“Girl there’s nobody with me. Just let me in,” Jade said.
Kali unlocked the door and Jade pushed it open, almost knocking Kali to the floor. Kali peeped out the door when Jade came in, just to make sure she was by herself.
“Damn who after ya ass?” Kali questioned.
“Where Quita at?” She asked Kali out of breath.
“She’s in the kitchen, why what’s going on?” Kali asked.
She and Lexi ran into the kitchen. “Oh my God. Quita are you ok?” Jade asked trying to catch her breath.
“I’m fine considering what’s been going on, but why do you ask?”
“Cause girl, three fucking car loads of police just rushed Timmy at the 7-eleven,” Jade explained.
“Are you fucking serious? What happened? Did you find out why they arrested him?” Quita’s heart dropped. She automatically thought about the conversation she just had with Nate.
“I didn’t hear everything, but one of the arresting officers told him that he was under arrest for the murder of Demontrey Johnson. They put the cuffs on him and put his ass in the back of the car.”
Quita was in a complete state of shock. She was at a loss for words. She knew Nate had just told her that Timmy was the one who did it, but she thought he just got some misinformation.
‘Wow my ex-boyfriend has been murdered by my current boyfriend. What the fuck is going on. This is some real crazy shit. With all that had gone on Quita decided that it was time to give up on relationships all together. I’m fucking done! I will stay single forever if this is what I have to deal with,’ Quita thought.
Chapter 9
Jade and Rae stopped at the corner store to pick up a twelve pack of Heineken and a box of Philly blunts on their way to Dashiki’s to check on Quita. She had been hiding away from the since the whole Trey and Timmy shit, and Jade wanted to chill with her girl. Going to the club was not the same without Quita. Jade sat in the car and made Rae go into the store to make the purchase. Jade was lazy as fuck, so she always had Rae with her to be her errand girl.
Jade was in the car smoking on a Newport bobbing her head to the music. Suddenly she heard a booming system over her music. She looked over to her right and saw J-Roc with his fine ass in his shiny black 5.0 Mustang. He was popping shit on his celly. She quickly fixed herself just in case he noticed her.
J-Roc turned the ignition off and hopped out the car, fixing his clothes before going in the store. He looked to the left and saw Jade’s ass rocking back and fourth in the seat to her music. She peeped him getting out his car, but she acted like she didn’t see him.
“Yo, is that you Ms. Jade?” J-Roc asked her.
“Yeah it’s me. What’s up wit’ you?” She asked smiling.
“Ain’t shit shorty. Just trying to make this money. You know how it is. What’s good with yo sexy ass?” He asked looking at her with sneaky grin on his face.
“Not shit my nigga. Me and Rae on our way to go see how Quita holding up after that shit with her dudes. She’s been real fucked up lately,” Jade said.
“Oh word? Tell her I said what up? On the real ma, I don’t think she even been chillin’ with Lex like that either, and you know them two is like Siamese twins. I think I’d be fucked up too shorty. That shit was fucked up. Shit, Timmy was my boy, and I didn’t even know that nigga shot Trey. I mean the nigga didn’t tell me he did the shit. If I went through some ol’ fuck shit like that I think my mind would be gone too.” Jada shook her head to agree with J-Roc.
“You know that’s my girl, and I don’t even know what to say to her. Fuck what can I say?”
“I don’t even know what to say,” J-roc said shaking his head.
“So, Jade, what you been doing with ya sexy ass?” J asked.
Jade started smiling hard because J-Roc had just made her day. She’d had a huge crush on him since high school, but she never acted on it because of the relationship he and Lexi has. Honestly she could give two shits about Lexi’s feelings, but she was cool with Laquita and didn’t want to cause any conflict.
“I’m doing good,” Jade told him.
“Enough of the small talk already shorty. When you goin’ let a nigga taste them sweet juices and bang ya back out? I heard you got some wet, wet, so what up? When can I get that?” J-Roc bodly asked.
“Shit nigga, why you playing. You can get it right now. Just let me drop Rae off, and we can do this,” Jade told him hyped. Before she could mouth another word Rae came out ofthe store with a green apple blow pop in her mouth.
“Hey what’s up J-Roc?” Rae asked him rolling her eyes. She knew what he was probably talking to Jade’s grimy ass about.
“Ain’t shit ma how you doing?” J asked her.
“I’m fine,” she said as she hopped in the car.
“Look Jade, I gotta get something out this store, and hit this lick round the block. Give me your math and I’ll hit you later.”
Before she gave him the number she wanted to know the status between him and Lexi.
“Before I give this to you what’s up with you and your girl?” Jade asked.
“Who you talking about?” J-Roc asked playing dumb.
