“Lexi nigga, don’t play dumb with me,” she called him out.
“Oh, we straight, but what’s the question?” He asked with a devilish grin.
“Nigga the question is are y’all still fucking around like that or what? ‘Cause you know me. I’m not trying to beat a bitch’s ass,” Jade told him. Rae just listened attentively shaking her head at the way Jade was throwing herself on her so-called homegirl’s man.
“Well all that ain’t necessary ‘cause she do her, and I do me. Rest assured ma, no drama. You good,” J-Roc told her.
“A’ight then. I’ll give you the number,” she said smiling. Jade quickly retrieved a pen from her purse and gave him the number on a wrinkled McDonalds receipt.
“Don’t forget to hit me,” she said as he walked off.
“Oh yeah, I got you,” her smiled and winked at her.
“You one dirty ass bitch!” Rae told Jade as the pulled off.
“What you mean?” Jade asked playing dumb.
“Oh, so now you slow and shit. You know what I’m talking about Jade,” Rae spat.
“You was sitting right here, and you heard what he said bout their relationship,” Jade told her.
“Yeah, I heard his triflin’ass. You know a nigga will tell you anything to get them drawers too. Not to mention we ‘round Lexi damn near every day and she always talking bout that nigga. You know she still fuckin’ with him hot and heavy.”
“Oh well, she must not be doing something right, but I damn sure can,” Jade told her snapping her neck around.
“Well Jade all I can say is, you better be careful cause you playing with fire, and karma is a bitch.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, fuck karma she ain’t shit,” Jade said felling herself way too much.
When they finally pulled up in front of Dashiki’s apartment they heard the Notorious B.I.G’s Juicy playing.
“Dashiki must not be home,” Jade said.
Rae nodded in agreement.
They knew Dashiki thought she was the shit always acting like she was better than everybody else. Paying loud music in her crib was a no, no. As Jade and Rae stood outside the door they heard Quita going hard with the lyrics of the song.
“Super Nintendo, Sega Genius. When I was dead broke man I couldn’t picture this. Fifty inch screen, money green leather sofa, got two rides limousine with a chauffeur.” Quita was into the lyrics so much she didn’t even hear the doorbell.
Jade started beating the door with her fists to get Quita’s attention. Quita opened the door and saw Jade and Rae standing there with a twelve pack of Heineken in hand. She was feeling a bit embarrassed that they had just heard her. She just stood in the doorway laughing.
“Who you supposed to be Lil Kim or something?” Jade asked with a smirk on her face.
“Fuck you. What are you so damn happy about anyway? You must have got some dick last night,” Quita said letting them both in.
“Nah, I didn’t get any, but I do gots me a little creep coming through tonight,” Jade told her.
“Oh word? Who is the lucky candidate?” Quita asked.
“Why nosey? I called him a creep for a reason,” Jade said irritated with Quita for being up in her mix. She knew she should have just kept her mouth shut.
“She supposed to be hooking up with J-Roc’s doggish ass,” Rae blurted out before Quita had a chance to ask any more questions. Quita couldn’t believe her ears. She shook her head in disbelief.
“Oh, hell no Jade, you know better than that dumb shit.”
“Quita I tried to tell her ass, but she won’t listen,” Rae added.
“Well I’m telling you right now don’t put me in that shit, ‘cause both of y’all is my girls and I’m not taking sides. Jade that’s some foul shit though. You wouldn’t want her to do that shit to you. Next thing you know you and Lexi gonna be fighting over some sorry ass dick!” Quita preached.
“Whateva ho!” Jade said waving her off.
“Shit, why you playing Quita. I bet yo ass need some dick. What, it’s been like over a month since that shit popped off with ya boys.” Jade said.
“Yeah, it’s been a minute, but I’m just staying to myself for a while to recuperate that’s all. Sex is the last thing on my mind,” Quita told her looking at the floor. She thought about Trey and Timmy.
“I know girl. I’m just fucking with you,” Jade told her playfully pushing her arm.
“Shit, I ain’t even gonna lie. I do need somebody to come by and blow my back out though.” Quita laughed.
“I know that’s right,” Rae said giving Quita a high five. They all laughed in unison.
“Alright, enough talking ‘bout me. Quita we came over here so you could get out tonight. So get you sad and depressed ass in the shower and get cleaned up so we can make our debut at the Spot tonight. It’s been far too long since we hit the club up, and tonight is the night,” Jade boldly stated.
Quita knew Jade was right. It was time to get out and have some fun. Quita agreed with her without a debate, which Jade couldn’t believe. Normally Quita was very stubborn and it was like pulling teeth to make her do somethng. Qutia didn’t put up a fight because she knew it was time to pull her self together. She also knew that Jade wasn’t giving up until she agreed to go.
Quita left Jade and Rae in the living room. She headed straight to her room to pick out an outfit to wear to the club. She jumped in the shower after she decided on what to wear.
Jade was in the living room busy making calls to all their girls. She wanted to give Quita a night to remember. Jade and Rae made all the necessary calls to their whole crew. Jade was going to get Quita call Alexus, because she damn sure wasn’t. She was cool with Lexi but didn’t feel like being fake. Quita walked into the living room wrapped in a Terry cloth robe drying her hair with a towel.
“Let me get one of those Heinekens while I get dressed, chicken head!” Jade gave her the middle finger and tossed her a beer. Quita pulled a dime bag of weed out of her purse on the couch and tossed it to Rae.
“Roll up. I’ll be back in a few.” Rae gave the bag to Jade because she was the one with the blunts, and Rae couldn’t roll a J let alone a philly.
Quita went to her bedroom to get dressed, so she and her girls could hit the club. While she was getting dressed Jade knocked on the door.
“Hey girl, are you decent?” Jade asked before she entered.
“Yeah come in, what’s up?” Quita asked her spraying some body mist on.
“Hey, call ya girl and tell her to come through,” Jade said referring to Lexi.
“Why can’t you call her? Let me find out you trying to act funny with her ‘cause you tryin’ to fuck her man,” Quita said.
“Uh no, I just don’t feel like being fake right now,” Jade said rolling her eyes.
“I’m just playing, I’ll call her girl,” Quita said laughing.
Jade exited Quita’s bedroom and went to the living room.
Quita picked up her phone and dialed Lexi. Quita was pissed because she didn’t pick up the phone. ‘She must be laid up.’ Quita thought.
Quita pulled her hair up into a ponytail and her phone started ringing. She wasn’t going to answer at first, but she saw that it was Lexi returning her call.
Quita wasted no time letting Lexi have it for not answering her phone.
“Damn bitch. I know you not still in the damn bed,” Quita spat.
“Fuck you Quita. I was up until six this fuckin’ morning, so I’m beat,” Lexi told her.
“What the fuck was you up so long for?”Quita asked.
“Girl J-Roc stayed over last night, and his ho line was going crazy. On top of that we argued most of the night. The nigga just left a few hours ago. So believe me you I’m tired as hell. Anyway what’s good with you?”
“Not shit girl. I just got my ass out the shower, now I’m getting dressed,” Quita said.
“Wow where you going? I haven’t heard you say you getting dressed in a minute.” Lexi said surprised.
>
“Oh, we’re stepping out tonight,” Quita told her.
“What, oh hell no. Who is we?” Lexi asked. She was obviously in shock that Quita was going out.
“All of us. That’s why I called you. ‘Cause you know I’m not going out if you ain’t, so what ya say? Are you down or what?” Quita asked hyped.
“Hell yeah, you know it, no question,” Lexi said just as hyped as Quita.
“Who in the hell got you to come out?” Lexi questioned.
“Jade you know her aggravating ass. I didn’t put up much of a fight when she asked. I knew she wasn’t gonna give up easy, so I just agreed.”
“Well good, I’m glad to hear somebody was able to get you up and out. I’ll be over in an hour or so,” Lexi told her.
“A’ight bet.” Quita hung up the phone and continued to get ready.
She picked up her phone and dialed Lexi right back.
“What now ho? We just hung up.” Lexi answered.
“Shut up, meet us over Kali’s crib, ‘cause Shiki will be home in less than a hour. You know how she is and I really don’t feel like hearing her shit.”
“Hell, who don’t know how your big sis is. I’ll meet y’all over there.”
“A’ight girl, peace,” Quita said disconnecting the call.
Quita quickly got off the phone and finished getting dressed so she could join Jade and Rae in the living room. When Quita entered the room Jade was chilling in Shiki’s favorite chair drinking a beer with her feet up.
“Get yo ass up before my sister come home and kick that ass!” Quita told her.
“I tried to tell her Quita. I told her to sit on the couch with me, but she wouldn’t listen,” Rae said co-signing what Quita said.
“Bitch please, quit trying to kiss Quita’s ass!”
Quita just looked at Jade with a screw face. Jade looked right back at her.
“What you looking at me all crazy for Quita? Everybody knows that she’s scared of yo ass, and she got you by three years in age,” Jade said.
Quita waved her off. Jade got out the chair and they headed out.
They all piled into Jade’s ford Escort and headed to the liquor store to get a bottle of E & J to sip on before they hit the club.
The best thing about growing up in a small town was when it was time to buy alcohol you were good. If the clerk knew you or a family member, you were good to go. Quita hopped in the car and lit a cigatette.
“Hey Jade run my by Fashion Cents so I can get me a little something to wear tonight.”
“That’s cool, but you got some gas money? ‘Cause my tank is getting low,” Jade told her.
“Oh, hell no bitch. You asked me to go out with yo’ ho ass, and if I’m going I gots to get me something fresh. Shit, you know it’s been a minute since I stepped out and I gotta look good!” Quita said jumping around in her seat.
“I was just bullshittin’ you. You know I got ya back,” Jade reassured her.
“Good ‘cause I need to get me something too,” Rae said from the back seat.
“Now, you I will charge,” Jade said sarcastically.
“Huh?” Rae sucked her teeth.
“That’s right run them pockets, five should do,” Jade said rubbing her fingers together.
Rae rolled her eyes and pulled a five dollar bill from her bra. She tossed it to the front seat at Jade’s head. Jade grabbed the money and put it in the glove box.
“Thanks ho,” Jade told her.
“Yeah whatever!” Rae snapped. Rae sat in the back seat heated because Jade had been being a bitch all day. ‘That bitch is just trying to be funny ‘round Quita’s ass.’ Rae thought.
They each got an outfit from Fashion Cents, and had every intention of being ghetto fabulous for the night. That’s right, wear their outfits to the club with the tags still on them and take that shit back to the store for a full refund the next day.
By the time they left the store they only had enough money in their pockets to get in the club. That was cool with them because they had all intentions to get fucked up before they got to the club anyway.
When they got back to the projects everybody and they momma was out. Kids were running around screaming, jumping rope and just plain having fun. Niggas were everywhere with their trunks popped blasting the latest rap music. Only the best were playing.
Quita noticed Lexi’s mom’s station wagon at the end of the parking lot.
“Oh shit, y’all I forgot all about Lexi. She said she would be here in an hour but she normally takes two, so I thought we had time,” Quita said out loud.
“Aww fuck her,” Jade said.
“Don’t start that dumb shit Jade we’re all gonna have fun tonight. No drama,” Quita told her.
“Uh oh. There is Dashiki’s Camry, I guess she’s home,” Rae said.
“Thank God we left when we did,” Quita said.
“I know right.” Jade and Rae agreed.
Jade parked the car and they all went into Kali’s crib, where she and Lexi were watching Yo! MTV Raps. They were smoking without them. Quita walked in spoke and started searching for Naja.
“Where’s my baby at Kali?” Quita asked.
“Shit, when I heard my baby sister was coming out tonight I called Ms. Pat and had her babysit tonight. You just missed her. They left like ten minutes ago,” Kali told her.
“Damn Quita, you tell me to meet you at Kali’s crib and you ain’t even here,” Lexi said snapping on Quita.
“Oh I’m so sorry Lexi. Can you forgive me? I needed to get me a new outfit,” Quita said with a childlike smile. Lexi smiled at Quita.
“You make me sick. Yes I forgive you heifer,” Lexi told her.
“Look, I hate to break up a moment here, but let’s go to my crib. I just got a new stereo last week and I’m ready to blast that shit,” Rae said. She was the friend who always hosted house parties. Kali was the first one to accept the offer because she honestly didn’t want mufuckas up in her shit tearing up her new living room furniture she had just coped from Rent a Center.
“Hell yeah y’all lets go,” Kali agreed.
“A’ight bet, let’s bounce,” Rae said.
They went to Rae’s apartment and started cooking up all kind of shit. They needed to eat something before they started drinking. Everybody pitched in to cook a dish.
Rae got the grill out and they put some burgers and hot dogs on the grill along with a couple of New York steak strips, and corn on the cob. Quita made her famous spaghetti salad and some baked beans to go along with the meats. They ate, listened to music and caught up with the latest gossip.
After a few drinks and about three L’s, Quita started to feel fucked up about Trey and Timmy. Before today you could tell by looking at her that she was stressing. She was not her usual self. Before everything went down she made sure she stayed fly. Since Trey’s murder Quita walked around with her hair undone, draped in baggy ass clothes, and no make up.
Earlier that day Quita received a letter from Timmy. She was still debating whether she should read it or not. Quita took her drink and plate of food to Rae’s spare bedroom to read what Timmy had to say. She sat on the roll away bed and took a deep breath before opening the letter. ‘Well here goes nothing,’ She thought.
What’s up Quita, I know I’m not the person you want to hear from right about now, but I got some shit I need to get off my chest. First of all baby, you mean the world to me. I love you so much. I tried to contact you several times to let you know what was going on. Obviously you were too busy to talk to me.
Look ma, I don’t wanna make you feel bad or like this shit is your fault, but I gotta tell you. I know with your memory you can recall this moment like it was yesterday. That night you couldn’t get in touch with me? You thought I was laid up in some pussy? Well I wasn’t. I had some moves to make, and I saw that you had been calling my phone! I just couldn’t talk at the time, but I was gonna get at you as soon as I finished.
