“How does that make you feel, knowing your life will never be the same again?” he asked in a strangled voice.

She lifted one of her perfectly arched eyebrows and said, “I feel special and scared at the same time. Something inside of me is changing. I can feel it. I’m hot all the time. Restless. I can’t explain it.”

Neither could he, but they had plenty of time to figure it out together.

“I’m never letting you go. You are my life. Whatever it is, we can figure it out together.” Jax didn’t take his eyes from hers. He wanted to see what kind of reaction she had.

Her tongue peeped out and she lifted her gaze. “I like that.”

Jax winked. “Good. Now eat your food.”

“Come with me.” Jax took Denim’s hand and led her from the kitchen to his bedroom. The blinds were drawn and moonlight was beaming from the windows.

“Nice,” she murmured and he watched her take in his massive room. A large king-sized bed was the center focal point of the space. Facing the rear of the house was a sitting room with a tranquil view of the lake.

Denim walked across the clay tiled floor and gasped as she stared outside the glass. “This view is amazing,” she said, then pushed the French doors open and stepped out onto a wrought-iron balcony. Down below, the stable-hands were attending to the horses galloping around playfully. Smiling, Jax moved over and leaned on the railing beside her and inhaled deeply, drawing her sweet scent into his lungs as they stared out at the view. “This is my favorite view of the property.”

“I can see why,” Denim said as she stared down at the table and together they watched as the horses were being taken inside. “I couldn’t imagine living here.”

His head lifted to the dark sky. “You get used to it after a while.”

“Does the staff know that you’re a…?” She purposely allowed her voice to trail off.

Jax nodded. “Yes, most of them are members of our pack.”

Denim’s eyes widened with surprise. “How many are there?”

“Plenty and you’re asking more questions than you need to know,” he replied, then reached up and affectionately caressed her cheek. “The humans who work for us understand the need for the strictest confidence. In exchange, we compensate them quite well.”

She tilted her head and gave him a sidelong glance, eyes dancing. “I always knew you were some spoiled rich kid. I just never realized how wealthy.”

Jax shook his head. “I’m just someone who wants to be loved like everyone else.” They were close, shoulders brushing as they stared at each other. A breeze ruffled her hair, causing her to shiver. The night couldn’t have been more perfect if he had planned it himself.

Until he tilted his head and sniffed the night air.

The faint scent of Troy caused the hair at the back of his neck to rise and he bit back a snarl. She was down there, somewhere close watching, hoping he would come after her, and she wasn’t alone. A growl rumbled in his throat. His incisors burned and the beast within raged to be unleashed, but not tonight. Tonight was going to be about Denim. It was time. The sooner he made Denim his mate, the better.

She must have felt his body stiffen because Denim swung around and faced him. “Are you okay?” she whispered, eyes dark with concern.

Jax drew in a long breath, and smiled. Her beautiful face warmed his heart and tamed the wolf in him. He wasn’t going to scare Denim by alerting her that Troy and probably one of her petty she-wolf friends were on the ranch. If his father vowed to handle the situation, then he believed him. “Everything is perfect,” he murmured and brought a hand up to caress her cheek.

“I love it here,” Denim said with a sigh.

“And I love having you here.” His eyes lowered to her mouth and he heard her breathing hitch slightly. Lacing their fingers together, he drew her against his chest. Her tongue grazed his neck before her lips traveled over to his ear and playfully nipped at the lobe.

“I had the most erotic dream about you last night,” she whispered. “Do you ever fantasize about me?”

“For eight damn years,” he growled, then tilted his head back to gaze at her. “You have no idea.” The strained look on her face said she would like nothing better right now than for him to strip her clothes and slide inside her sweet wet essence.

  That makes two of us.

  “I heard that,” she purred.

“Being with you is going to make it hard for me to keep a secret.” Jax chuckled. “Tell me about your fantasy,” he coaxed between light kisses.

Amusement was dancing in her eyes as she spoke. “I dreamed we met in the forest, you stripped my clothes and started licking my kitty,” she confessed.

He hissed, “So did it feel good?”

“Mmmm, it was wonderful,” she purred. “Almost as good as the real thing.”

  “Almost?” He swallowed.

“Nothing is as good as you and your wet … soft … lips,” she said in a seductive tone.

His jaw clenched, then loosened. “What else happened in your dream?”

Leaning forward, Denim whispered against his lips, “You bent me over, spread my thighs and slid inside from behind.”

“Doggy-style?” Jax stared at her. “You know that’s a Were’s favorite position.”

Denim gave him a wicked grin as if she didn’t already know. “Is it?” she said innocently, although a few nights ago, while sitting out on the porch, he had explained the entire binding process to her.

“I can’t wait for us to mate, so I can show you,” he said in a tight voice.

“I like the sound of that,” she purred against his lips.

There was a part of her that satisfied his every desire—physical, mental and sexual—that caused a knot to form at his stomach. Denim had filled a need within him and had captured his aching heart.

“I love you Denim, and claim you as my mate.”

  “What?” she croaked.

“I said I love you.” He leaned down to kiss her. “Please consider staying in Justice… with me and my pack.”

“Jax,” she moaned. Her seductive scent invaded his senses and he felt dizzy … and downright horny. “I…”

“Be my mate,” he whispered. Before she could catch her breath, his hands were on her body, cupping her round breasts through the t-shirt.

“Yes.” A whimper slipped from her lips, and then she arched her back, drawing closer.

“Denim,” Jax groaned. “You like when I play with your breasts, don’t you?”

“Uh-huh,” she murmured. Her nipples brushed against his shirt and his cock jolted against her thigh, responding to the thoughts of filling her completely.

Jax dragged the shirt over his head, then hers, and leaned forward allowing his lips to trace a hot wet path over her cheek and down her neck.

“Is … is this what you dreamed?” Her breath was already becoming labored.

“Absolutely. I first stripped your clothes, teased you with my tongue until I had you squirming, then I took one of your nipples in my mouth.”

Denim gasped when his lips closed over an aroused nipple and suckled until her head slumped back with pleasure. Cupping her breasts, he laved them with his tongue before nipping with his teeth.

  “Feel good, baby?”

“Yes,” she panted and he felt her legs wobbling. She grabbed on to his shoulders to keep from collapsing. “Please,” she whimpered.

“Baby, tell me what you want?”

She ran her hands over the warm, hard expanse of his chest and along his rigid stomach. “You, Jax, I want you.”

The beast within growled and dragged her against him, lifted her and nudged his hardness against her mound. “Sweetheart, do you know what it means to be my mate?”

She shook her head. “Yes and no, but as long as we’re together, then that’s all that matters. Her arms encircled his neck, her legs curled around his hips. “I love you, Jax.” With a low growl, he carried her into the room, over to th
e bed and lowered her across the bedspread. Reaching down, Jax dragged her shorts and panties down over her hips, then parted her folds and nudged at her opening.

  “You’re so wet,” he panted.

She rocked against his fingers, heightening the pressure that coiled between his thighs. Jax stroked her with one hand, while the other he used to lower his jeans and boxers just enough that his cock sprung free.

“Roll over and get up on all four,” he growled.

Denim wasted no time turning on the bed. “Like this?” she asked in a breathless whisper over her shoulder that was almost his undoing.

He gritted his teeth at the sight of her ass in the air. “Yes, babe, just like that.” Jax brought his hands to her hips, drawing her back, then took a deep breath. He parted the cheeks and entered her in one powerful thrust, filling her completely, her hips rocked against him.

“Denim, damn it, don’t move yet,” he ordered desperately. She felt so wet and incredibly aroused. “Shit!” Cursing violently, Jax pulled out and surged into Denim again with such incredible force. Her lips parted and she gasped and then he felt her pulsate and contract around his cock.

“Jax!” she cried out, her hands clutching the bedspread. He responded by pounding into her again and again, until she was spiraling toward an orgasm so fast he thought he would lose his mind. The more she cried out in pleasure, the more he thrust and pumped into her long and fast, drawing out her orgasm. “Yes … Oooooh yes!” she whimpered over and over, until he felt a climax rip through her.

“You’re mine,” he chanted. “Mine.” He thrust again. Deeper. Harder, drawing it out until with one final thrust his own orgasm ripped through him.

“Jax!” she screamed, followed by a series of sighs.

Jax let out a loud howl, then buried his head at her neck and pierced his teeth into her soft skin, tasting her rich blood as he moaned her name. Denim shuddered and sighed.

Collapsing onto the bed, Jax rolled over, dragging her with him and planted soft kisses to her neck and throat. His hands stroked her breasts and stomach until his heart rate had returned to normal. “You’re mine. You have always been mine.”

Denim swung around until their eyes met. The passion was gone from her gaze and was now dark and serious. “Don’t say that too loud. Troy might hear you.”

“The pack will deal with her,” he assured her.

He just hoped his father was able to negotiate something to make both families happy and stop her need for revenge. In the meantime, he would do everything to protect Denim. Cupping her face, Jax brought his mouth down over hers again. He had claimed her.

Denim plunked down two beers onto one of the tables she was serving. “Your order will be up shortly,” she said, then nodded at a woman at the next table who motioned for another glass of milk for her little boy. Quickly, she cleared another and tucked the five-dollar tip in her apron pocket, then hurried behind the kitchen door to discard the dirty dishes.

“Here ya go,” she said to Pete, a high school student who’d been hired as the official dishwasher for the summer.

“The more the merrier,” he beamed as he reached for the stack. The kid put a lot of pride in his work.

Denim rattled off her newest order to Matt, then poured a glass of milk and swiftly moved back out onto the floor. It had been one busy day. Her feet were screaming and she was yearning for a long hot bath in a claw-foot tub.

She dropped off the milk, checked to make sure all her customers were content, then moved back behind the counter. Quinn came breezing through the door in four-inch white pumps, smiling wider than the hills behind the diner.

“Busy evening?” she said and jumped up onto one of the stools.

“It’s been like this for all day. Another hour and I’m out this joint.” Exhausted now, Denim yawned and took a seat beside Quinn, determined to get at least two minutes off her feet.

“The area is probably busy because the circus is in Austin. Everyone is either coming or going.”

“That would explain it.” Denim blew out another weary breath. The event was great for business, but Pappy had just hired a new waitress who’d never worked in a diner in her life, and they still needed one more to cover the evening shift.

“How are things with you and Jax?”

Denim found her body overheating at the mere mention of his name. “Did you come by to order something to eat or to be nosy?”

“Both,” Quinn replied with a saucy grin on her alabaster face. “While you ask Matt to grill me one of his turkey burgers, I want to hear all about you and that wild child.”

With a laugh, Denim slid off the stool and yelled the cook Quinn’s order then filled water glasses at the counter before replying, “Things are good. Hell, they are better than good.”

Quinn clapped her hands merrily. “Good for you! You know every woman in Justice is hating you right about now. You should have seen their faces when the two of you were walking around together at the party. Karen Summers said she saw you riding around town in Jax’s BMW.”

Welcome to Mayberry where your business is also everyone else’s.

  “We’re officially dating.”

Quinn shrieked and started clapping again. She and Jax were doing more than dating, but Denim decided to leave it at that for now. She was in love, but wasn’t ready yet to share her feelings with anyone.

  The bell dinged. “Order up!”

She reached for a tray then loaded it with food. Smothered pork chops, mashed potatoes and green beans. All her favorites. She carried the tray over to her customer, made sure they didn’t need anything else and went back to refilling glasses. When she was done, Quinn waved her hand, signaling for her to come there.

“Denim, did you notice that gorgeous guy at the back, staring this way?” she whispered.

She put down the water pitcher and followed the direction of Quinn’s eyes to the rear of the restaurant. The hottie was tall and about their age. He was muscled and raw. From his short, spiky reddish brown hair to the cleft in his chin. His skin was dark, courtesy of the Texas sun. “He’s been in here before,” she reported. He always sat in the back and often Denim had felt the sizzle of his attention now and again, as if he’d been watching her.

“I wonder if he lives in the area.”

Denim shrugged and discreetly shot another glance at the beefy man. “Maybe he just started at the tire plant.”

Quinn’s eyes sparkled with interest. “There might be hope for me around here after all.”

Denim laughed. The way Quinn liked to date, she had a feeling she was a long way from settling down, especially after the way she had reacted over Chayton. She had a feeling Quinn was still holding a crush for him.

The bell dinged again. She noticed the new girl, Leigh, was busy in the back, so she decided to help her out and reached for the tray.

  “I’ll be back.”

“Tell Mr. Hottie I said hello,” Quinn whispered as Denim passed, sending her into a fit of laughter.

Denim wiggled her way through a maze of tables. Leigh looked up as she arrived, eyes wide with uncertainty. “Thank you.”

“Need some help?” she asked, sympathetically.

The eighteen-year-old looked relieved. “Yes, please. That guy there needs a refill,” she said and pointed toward the hottie in the rear.

Denim nodded. “I got him.” She walked straight over to him. His gaze followed her movement and she felt her body warm. “I hear you need a refill?”

“I was wondering how long it was going to take you to come see,” he said, flashing a white grin. “I would love another glass of iced tea.”

“Coming right up.” She reached down for his empty glass and carried it back up to the counter.

Quinn was practically sputtering. “OMG! What did he say?”

“He asked for another glass of iced tea.” Denim laughed and shook her head, while she reached for a clean glass, filled it with ice and grabbed the pitcher of iced t
ea.

“At least try to find out if the guy is single.”

  Denim’s brow rose? “Really?”

“Yes, really. I want to know everything about him.”

“How about you go back there and ask him yourself?” she teased.

A frown rippled Quinn’s brow. “Uh no. I like to be chased.”

“I’ll see what I can do.” She was still shaking her head as she sauntered back to his table. “Here ya go,” Denim said with a sassy smile and placed the glass in front of him.

He regarded her with the darkest green eyes, and Denim felt a fluttering at her stomach. There was no denying he was sexy, but there was something in his gaze that was almost chilling.

“How about you take a seat and talk to me,” he suggested and patted the chair beside him.

Denim felt a moment of uneasiness and shook her head. “Sorry. I’m working.”

His head tipped at a cocky angle. “Then at least tell me your name.”

“Denim.” She brought a hand to her waist and tried to shake the eerie feeling. “What’s your name?”

  “Diesel.”

His eyes seemed to change colors to a green that resembled the Emerald City. And they were focused, unblinking, like an animal honing in on his prey. A chill ripped through her body as she tried to break the eye contact. But she couldn’t. She felt as if she was in a trance, and couldn’t look away. “Are you from around here?”

His eyes continued to bore into her as he nodded. “You could say that.”

  I know who you are.

What? Denim swallowed heavily. His lips hadn’t moved! “What did you just say?”
