Hollister called after him, “Hey Gage, what about your class.” He waited a minute. He got no answer.

“Of course, I’ll be glad to do it. Since you asked me so nicely,” he mumbled sarcastically.

The presentation was ending on the big screen as Hollister sauntered out to the front of the stage. The class was surprised. And the whispering. Hollister held up one hand to get their attention.

“Dr. Ferguson was called away. But he’s left you in capable hands. My name is Hollister. I’ll be conducting the rest of this lecture.”

One young woman called out flirtatiously, “What do you know about Native American Culture? You look like a surf bum, to me? A super-hot one.”

Hollister gave her his killer lopsided grin. He answered, “Do I now?”

Several other bolder girls agreed. Suddenly every female eye was riveted to the big blonde man on the stage. His board shorts and flip flops were highly unconventional. And his old thin tee shirt stretched like a second skin across a very tempting muscular torso. He winked at the co-eds in the stadium seating of the lecture hall.

“Well, if any of you ladies would like to learn more about ‘surfing’, you can stay after class,” he invited.

“But in the meantime,” he said. He kicked off his flip flops. He sank down to get comfortable on the edge of the stage, feet dangling over the side. “Let’s talk Cowboys and Indians.”

Recipe for Grace’s Mountain Cure-All Tea

  Ingredients:

Equal parts dried Lemon Balm, Chamomile, & Mint in a tea ball- about a tsp each.

Alternative Ingredients for folks without herb gardens:

  1 bag chamomile tea

  1 bag mint tea

  1 bag Lemon Zinger tea

Add your ingredients to a prepared tea pot filled with boiling water. Let steep five minutes. Serve in your Granny’s old teacups. Honey and slices of lemon are lovely options to add. This will clear your head and settle your stomach. It’s what I give to my family when they’re a little under the weather. Works every time!

  About The Author

I’m a forgiven Christian, a happy wife of 38 years, a proud mother of two grown children, and a spanking brand new Grandmama. Over the years God has been so, so good to me. I’ve been a busy public school teacher, a mediocre opera singer, a toenail painting dog groomer, a bad caterer, and now it seems a hopeful writer. Because God has blessed me, I’ve been published in many genres- newspapers, magazines, blogs, books, song lyrics, and even screenwriting. One of my scripts, ‘Angel in the Aisles’, won a Silver Telly for excellence in cable broadcasting. Another, a modern day version of the Bible story of Esther, was produced into a full length movie entitled ‘For a Time Like This’. I continue to be amazed at what God can do with the very little I have to offer.

I’m hoping you enjoyed ‘Carried Away’. Writing it, I thought a long time about why we struggle so hard to be the masters of our lives instead of surrendering our feeble efforts and letting God take that leadership role. Maybe it made you think too. I hope so. Love Never Fails, Grace Walton
