Mikala's Passion (Pulse Series Book 2)
Page 9
He sat frozen between her thighs. A feeling of trepidation cautioned the big brain to kick into gear, to think wisely. All sound in the room muffled as his chest tightened with angst and panic gripping his moral soul.
“This isn’t right,” he said, shifting away and leaping from the bed leaving Mikala with her jaw hanging open.
In the bathroom he turned on the water and flushed his face before looking into the mirror. “Fucked up again,” he snarled, punching out at the disgusting image staring back at him. Shards of glass sprayed out in a glittering explosion as he stood shaking with blood dripping from his knuckles.
“Mason!” Mikala yelled, trying the door handle when he didn’t answer, he had managed to lock it before she could get in. “Mason, answer me.”
“Go to bed, Mikala,” he snorted out, knowing if he didn’t say something she would never let up.
“Open the door?” she asked, with her lips at the crack of the door.
“Go. The. Fuck. To. Bed,” he growled out a warning.
Mikala reluctantly climbed the stairs to the hideaway crawling into her bed.
Mason dropped his head onto his folded arms on the glass littered countertop, taking time to calm down. Images of the last few minutes haunted him. There was something about that woman that made him do the stupidest things, crazy fucked up things, he needed to get a grip and stop fucking up when it came to Mikala.
He moved about the room in a dark methodical haze, cleaning the mess he made in his disturbing temper, he bandaged his hand as his mind tried calmly to make sense of her demands.
He knew what he had to do and come morning things were going to change. Mikala wanted sex without any complications and he wanted Mikala, there was only one way to make it work, his way!
Mikala’s eyes fluttered opened to a brightly lit loft. The blinds had all been drawn open and from her perspective, Mason’s bed was empty and neatly made. After last night’s fiasco she wasn’t surprised that he had gotten up early and left, she couldn’t blame him. She had acted like a vicious bitch, not thinking of his feelings for a minute, only her greed. She was ashamed of her behavior and told herself an apology was well in order. She would get dressed and text him, find out where he was and go try to explain herself.
Stretching her arms over her head she rolled to her back, she caught sight of a form sitting to her side and screamed. Mason sat stretched out in a chair beside her with a coffee in his hand and his feet positioned on the bed with his ankles casually crossed.
“Jesus Christ, Mason.”
Immediately she noticed the white bandage wrapped around his knuckles and sat up reaching out to touch him, pulling back he scowled causing her to withdraw the gesture. If she didn’t feel guilty enough before, she sure as hell felt absolutely gutted now.
The silent stare he had fixed on her was unnerving, causing her to sit back against the headboard pulling the sheets up to her chin. “Mason, you’re scaring me.”
“Mmm…” he hummed. “I have something to say.”
“What,” she asked, never taking her eyes from his.
“Last night was a mistake,” he broadcast, like it was early morning breaking news.
“No shit.”
He slowly shook his head placing his index finger over his lips. “Shhh… I speak, you listen.”
She narrowed her eyes watching as he reached beside him producing a mug of hot coffee.
“Alright but...” she said, taking the offered mug.
He was unpredictable, she knew this about him. She knew when they met, that when the mood took him he did things that shocked the shit out of her. Surprise gifts or a gentlemanly gesture when least expected, always kept her on her toes. An intense stare often turned into a sexual encounter without warning. And the offered mug of coffee proved that her Mason wasn’t too far away.
“I apologize for the way I treated you last night,” she said.
He looked away for a second as if mulling over what she said to be true, and then glared. “You know I want you, I want nothing more. And yes, I’m willing to keep it uncomplicated. There are however, a few rules I need to implement.”
“Such as,” she asked, sitting forward placing her mug on the side table and wrapping her arms around her knees, giving Mason her full attention.
Unsure she was going to agree to his proposal of new rules, he decided to jump in with both feet. No harm done if she said no. “Rule one and two will remain as is. New rule number three, there will be no sex without a condom. Four, no dismissing rule number three. And five, I dictate when, where and how.”
Mikala’s mouth dropped open. “You’re out of your mind.”
Mason shrugged his shoulders dropping his feet to the floor. “Take it or leave it, sugar.”
He stood ready to walk. She was sexually frustrated enough to agree, he knew this because she sat quiet actually considering his proposal. As cold and callus as a sexual agreement could be, he found he also had no other choice if he stood a chance at all of ever getting her back.
Latching her hand onto his wrist she stopped him before he had the chance to turn away completely.
“Take it.”
“Make sure you know what you’re saying, you know I can be a demanding prick.”
“That was one of the things I liked most about you, Mason.”
His empty mug dropped to the floor and he scooped her into his arms. Without a word he carried her down the stairs crossing the loft to the large single pane window. He set her feet on the ground spinning her to face out at the city and tucked a foil wrapped condom between her lips. He placed his hand at the center of her back pushing her forward until she was pressed into the window with her cheek resting against the cold glass.
“No Mason, not here.” She spoke around the packet clenched in her teeth.
“Rule five, sugar. I dictate when, where and how. You submit totally or we have no deal.”
“But the window, it could break!” she said, her voice filled with panic.
“Do you honestly think I’d put you in any kind of danger?” He pressed his chest to her back and whispered into her ear, “Think for a moment how wet a touch of fear is going make you. It’s making me hot as fuck.” He pushed his arousal against the cheek of her ass.
Arching her back, bringing her arm round his neck, her hips pushed back and Mason smiled a wicked smile when he realized this was going to happen.
From the day that window had been installed he had dreamed of fucking her good and hard against it. She protested each and every time Mason so much as glanced in its direction with a hard-on.
Reaching under the hem of her t-shirt he found she was still panty-less, quickly pulling her t-shirt over her head, he threw it across the room, accompanied by his sweatpants and boxers.
Mason ran a chain of kisses from shoulder to shoulder while lifting her arms above her head and placing her palms on the icy glass. Slowly smoothing his fingertips down the length of her arms he molded his hands around the underside of her breasts lifting their weight and caressing his thumbs over her taut nipples, she groaned and he felt himself growing harder.
Like they had never missed a beat, never been out of tune and their melody had only been interrupted by a brief interlude, his knowledge of her body and how it sang when he embraced it, brought his heart to a familiar beat. Resting his cheek to hers as if moving in for a kiss he wasn’t allowed, he stopped himself noticing her eyes sealed tightly shut. She was shivering but not from the chill of the glass, he realized she was terrified.
“Baby, relax its tempered glass,” he whispered. “Open your eyes and get the full effect.”
“Full effect, are you kidding? This is fucking insane.” Her voice was shaky, Mason smiled against her cheek.
“Voyeurism is fucking sexy as hell, a turn on like nothing else. Open your eyes and see what I do.” He encouraged and watched as they slowly opened. “Look at the city its alive with people, they’re carrying on with their mundane lives while we’re up h
ere fucking the morning away, literally.”
Mikala tittered and met his gaze. “I still think you’re insane,” she proclaimed, earning a tweak to her nipple. She gasped turning her sights back to the window.
Her eyes scanned the ground below and then the buildings surrounding them. Mason’s fingers slipped downward across her belly into her tiny runway strip of pubic hair as he whispered with his lips to her ear, “Remember you can see them but they can’t see you. Think for a moment if they could, they’d see me do this.”
His arm circled her waist jerking her hips back, her hands squealed down the glass leaving a cloud of moisture as she let out a scream. His knee kicked her knees further apart and he reached between her legs cupping her sex. His fingers strummed over her opening and he hummed his delight.
By the wetness he met, it was apparent that she was turned on as much as he was. He stroked his cock along her crack and they both filled the silence in the room with appreciative cries of pleasure.
Snatching the foil packet from her mouth, he tore it open and glided it down his throbbing shaft tossing the wrapper to the floor.
Mason held the head of his cock at her opening, and then pushed forward as she pushed back. Her breath caught with a moan and they both stilled when he broke past her soaking wet lips. Her hot slick wetness felt like home, his breathing becoming painful as he rocked forward pushing all the way in with one stroke. Her loud cries only made the feeling that much more thrilling as he started rocking in and out, his pace increased as he heard each of her escaped breaths accompanied by a shrill groan.
“Fuck, sugar, you’re tight.”
He savored each and every stroke like a man that had spent the last eight months in a wasteland without water, now drowning in a sea of ecstasy. Memorizing the feel of her core grasping his shaft like scorching velvet gloves as if this was the last time, as if this was his dying wish come true, he moaned her name clamping roughly onto her hips. His fingers were surely going to leave a mark, he deliberately increased the pressure and smirked knowing that she was going to walk around for the next few days marked with proof that he had made her his own.
“Easy, sunshine!” she whimpered, between breaths.
Sunshine.
He slowed as he closed his eyes, he couldn’t remember the last time she called him that while enjoying each other, it felt good. It saddened him but also gave him a crazy aura of optimism. It made him become conscious of the fact that his heart was chained to hers. His soul would forever surrender to hers, all she had to do was call him sunshine and his heart knew no shame.
“Don’t stop, oh god, don’t stop now I’m so close,” she grumbled.
Ramming into her, he reached around and pressed his fingers to her clit applying pressure in quick circles, just the way she liked. “Say it, sugar.”
“Make me cum!” she roared out.
“Make me cum, what?” he demanded, intensifying the pressure on her clit, her hips arching as she groaned. “Say it, sugar.”
Mikala knew what he wanted, she knew what it did for him and as long as she was going to get what she wanted, she had no qualms about saying the words that got him off. “I need it, I need you.” she whispered.
Like a wick had been lit at the end of a stick of dynamite burning to ashes and nearing its explosive destination, he could feel himself getting closer to the edge, to that pinnacle moment of release as she howled and tightened deliciously around his cock. Her orgasm milked him to a volatile release of his own.
Back stepping them to the chair, they fell back still joined lying breathless as he swept his hands over her ribs and kneaded her breasts.
“Say that wasn’t good,” Mason purred, in her ear.
“Of course it was good, Mason. We were always good in the sack,” she said, turning her head so she could see his face. “We were always good together.”
In a rush she was crossing the room in a naked streak, Mason was left with a sudden void of cool air were her skin had moments ago touched his. He heard the shower start and sat forward with his elbows on his knees, holding his head in his hands. He didn’t regret for a minute what had just happened, but felt a remorseful loss now that she wasn’t in his arms. Was he choosing the right road, was this the direction he should be taking? He could only wonder what the future held for them both, if there was one at all. What was it about Mikala that had him drawn in like a moth drawn to a flame? He was scared of getting burned, but feared more the chance that he may burn her instead.

Music was blaring from a docking station sitting on the stairs as Mason sauntered into Pulse with his blue prints in hand, ready to get to work. It was a fresh new day and he was feeling like a million bucks after this morning’s escapade with Mikala. A thunderous orgasm had a way of starting the day off right.
The smile on his face quickly peeled away as he walked through the doors into the dance club and saw Mikala leaning on the bar laughing and joking with one of the workmen. Tony, a friend of a friend of Mason’s and well known player, was conversing with her. In Mason’s opinion Tony should have been working and not trying to get into his woman’s pants.
Mason rested on his elbows at the end of the bar, listening as they carried on a conversation, not aware of his presence. For all he knew they could have been discussing a construction issue, but he doubted that from the way the man was leaning into her.
“Sure I’ve been watching you, baby. You’re gorgeous. There’s not a man in this place that hasn’t noticed you.” Tony wiggled his brows, smiling a gleaming white smile. “Come on, baby.”
“I wouldn’t be much company, my hours are crazy. I can barely stay awake past six,” she said, clearly feeding him a line of bullshit and Mason knew it. She was so used to staying up all hours because of the club, mornings were her downfall.
“I can think of something we could do that will keep you up all night, baby.” Tony winked, Mikala laughed and Mason lost it.
“Get back to work Romeo,” Mason warned, slamming the blue prints on the bar between them. “Play-fucking-time is over.”
“Just leaving, Mase.” Tony grinned, saluting Mikala before grabbing his hardhat and disappearing up the stairs.
“Flirting with the hired help, sugar?” Mason joked, rubbing up against her rear end and snuggling his nose into her neck.
“Mason stop!” Mikala said, pushed his face back.
“Yeah Mason, stop.” Chase glared incredulously from Mason to Mikala. “You two back together?”
“No!” Mikala chirped, before Mason had a chance to say something totally stupid.
Chase looked to Mason for his answer. Mason put his hands in his pockets and shrugged. “Nope, just sex.”
“I cannot fucking believe you just said that,” Mikala growled, shoving her hand against his chest as he beamed.
“You two,” Chase growled, looking around noting they had company as several workers pulled up chairs at nearby tables, he pointed to Mason and then Mikala, “office, now!”
Chase held the door, waiting patiently until they were all inside before slamming it with the kind of gusto that drew real attention. The resonating crash of the door caused them both to jump from their skin, he would have laughed at the look on their faces had he not been close to ringing their necks. He stared them down but neither of them offered to start what was going to be a very awkward explanation.
“I’m going to say this once and only once, my friends.” He walked behind the desk and rested on his knuckles while he annunciated each word so his point was made clear. “I strongly suggest that you two get your shit together, because we have a business to get back up and running. I will not have this partnership being affected by you two having some kind of fucked up affair. Sleep together, screw each other’s brains out. I. Don’t. Care! But don’t bring it past those front doors.” he pointed.
Mason etched a cross over his chest and chuckled. “At the door got it!”
“My lips are sealed.” Mikala put her f
ingers to her lips pretending to lock them and throw away the key.
“I hope you know what you’re doing.” Chase said, waving them to the door. “And Mik,” she stopped looking at Chase over her shoulder. “When Eden finds out and you know she will, she’s going to go ape shit so be prepared. I’d tell her before someone else does.”
“We wouldn’t have to worry about Eden knowing in the first place, if it wasn’t for mister kiss and tell here.” She thumped his shoulder as they left the office.
“Jesus, Mason, what were you like in high school?”
***
Luckily, Mikala had managed to get through her meal without one single question from Eden regarding Mason and how she felt about the entire situation. She loved Eden to death, but there were things she just couldn’t possibly understand when it came to Mason and her. Theirs was a complicated mess and this new deal only added to the growing shit pile.
In Eden’s eyes it would be so easy to simply forgive and forget and start new, but Mikala needed to hold on to the past, she hadn’t figured out exactly why, but letting go was a terrifying concept she wasn’t ready to face. Perhaps that was why she had made the deal with Mason, too frightened to let go. Now she sat here in a crowded restaurant across the table from her best friend about to reveal that she was having a sick affair with the man that had crushed her heart eight months ago.
“And then I was thinking maybe a nice cornflower blue for the bedroom, what do you think?” Eden handed her a swatch of fabric. She rubbed along the frayed edge, drew her lip between her teeth and sighed.
“What? I thought you liked blue?” Eden asked.
“I love blue.”
“Then what’s with the face?”
“I slept with Mason.”
Eden’s jaw dropped open, her brows rose and a smile curled across her face. “Oh, honey, I’m so happy for you. I knew. I just knew you guys could work things out. You love each other and love always wins in the end.”
