Reawaken His Heart
Page 19
“Brae, you home?” I call out for him. “Up here!” I hear him yell. It feels like it takes me an hour to get up the stairs. When I enter the bedroom, Brae is walking out of the bathroom, toweling off his hair with nothing on but a towel wrapped around his waist. He looks edible. I love how his six pack is the first thing I see just before he drops his towel and grabs his black boxer briefs. He stops when he has them in his hands. “Like what you see, Ry?” His smile tells me he is up to no good.
“I love what I see, Brae.” I'm licking my bottom lip and stroll up to him to wrap my hand around his cock and stroke it slowly. I hear the groan he tries to hide from me before he says, “If you don’t stop that right now, I’m going to have you naked and on that bed.” His hand rubs my belly before he drops to his knees and presses a kiss to my stomach. Then his hands move to the waist of my yoga pants to lower them. When he gets them to my ankles, I lift one foot and then the next, stepping completely out of them. I hear the breath he sucks between his lips before he says, “You’re not wearing any underwear.”
I feel his hands slide up my legs. The roughness of his skin on mine sends chills through me. “Lie back on the bed, Rylee,” he orders me, and I do as I’m told. His hands spread my legs apart, and I feel his fingers slide inside briefly, stroking me. It's amazing, and I can already feel my orgasm building. It won’t take long for me to get off. It never does these days; I’m like a pressure valve just waiting to explode every time he touches me.
His cock is standing at attention, and his hand reaches down to stroke himself a few times. He knows how much I love to watch him do this. “What do you want, Rylee? Slow and soft or hard and fast?” he asks.
“I want it hard and fast, Brae. I want all of you now.” My voice is hungry as I speak. “Now, Braedyn. Now.” The words haven’t finished leaving my lips before I feel his cock thrust into me completely. His hands are lifting my ass off the bed as he is driving harder and harder into me. This is going to be quick, I can tell. It’s animalistic at best, him marking his property with each trust and me letting him.
I asked for it hard and fast, and he is giving me everything I asked for. My tits are bouncing up and down as he pulls me hard against him. The sounds of our bodies slapping together is echoing throughout the room. Sweat is glistening on his chest from the force he uses to plunge deep into me. “Yes, yes, oh god, yes!” I scream as my orgasm rips through me, taking my breath completely away. His groan is loud. “Fuck, I love it when you come so hard and squeeze my dick you almost break it, babe.” I can feel him harden even more inside me before he explodes. Every stroke has him filling me over and over with his seed.
“Wow, that was amazing,” I say, completely out of breath from him fucking me so hard. “I’m ready for a nap now,” I tell him, and we both laugh.
I wake to Braedyn kissing me. “I’m leaving now, Ry. I’m going to miss you, but I’ll see you in two days. Look for me. I’ll be the lunatic pacing at the front of the church.” He kisses me again. “I love you, Rylee.” I kiss him back. “Love you too, Brae.”

Saturdays are usually my kick back and relax days, but not today. Bailey is over early to keep me company. I’m a ball of nerves. Last night was Brae’s bachelor party. I know the guys from the station planned something, and since most of them are single, I’m sure I don’t even want to know what went on. My gut tells me it involved copious amounts of alcohol and naked women. I’m about ready to text him when my phone beeps.
Braedyn: You awake?
Me: Yes, have been for a while now.
Braedyn: Miss me?
Me: More than you know.
Braedyn: Love you, Rylee.
Me: Love you more.
Braedyn: Jaxson there yet?
Me: Not till tonight.
Braedyn: What’s on your agenda for today?
Me: Nothing, just counting down the hours until I see you.
Braedyn: Do you want me to come home?
Me: Nope, I’ll survive. But if you don’t show up tomorrow…
Braedyn: Princess, you have no reason to worry. I’ll be there waiting for you. I promise.
Me: Love you, Brae <3
Braedyn: Love you too, Ry. See you tomorrow.
By the time Jaxson arrives with Rosie and Penney, I am exhausted. I worked myself into a fit of worry about the wedding. Stupid stuff, really, but all the same I was stressing out. Rosie makes dinner for us and then tells me to get some rest if I don’t want to look like death warmed over tomorrow. I follow her orders, because I want to make sure I look good tomorrow. It’s bad enough that I’m the size of a house, but I can’t look tired on top of that. I want to look my best.
Braedyn
TODAY IS OCTOBER 28TH. I’ve been waiting for this day for months now. Being away from Rylee for two days is nothing new, but the last forty-eight hours were different. In just a few hours, I’ll be watching Jaxson walk Rylee down the aisle to me. I’m getting a second chance at happiness.
When I arrived at the resort, I wanted to march in and see Rylee, but everyone stopped me. So now, here I am standing in front of rows of chairs, waiting for Jaxson to walk her down the aisle. Penny is adorable in her little flower girl dress. But she is taking forever to make her way down. She is tossing a few rose petals, then she stops and looks back at her dad. Jaxson quietly mouths to her to keep going and makes a swatting motion with his hands like he is pushing her along, and she starts going again. This kid needs to speed up her steps, or my heart is going to beat right out of my chest.
Rosie gets into the aisle and motions for her daughter to come to her. Once Penny sees her mom, she tosses the basket full of flowers on the ground and runs up the aisle to her then jumps into Rosie’s arms. “Did I do good, Mama?” she asks, making everyone laugh.
The kid is a cutie, that’s for sure. Rylee and I don’t know if we are having a boy or a girl. It seems our little bundle of joy didn’t feel like sharing that piece of information every time we went for an ultrasound. I just hope he or she is as adorable as Penney.
When I look at the back of the aisle, I see Rylee standing there on Jaxson’s arm. I was so lost in thought I didn’t see Bailey make her entrance. My heart is fluttering faster and faster as I watch Rylee walk toward me. How did I get this lucky?
Jaxson is placing Rylee’s hand in mine before I know it. She is standing before me, white as a ghost. I can tell she is as nervous as I am. On instinct, I pull her closer to me and whisper to her, “Just breathe in, baby, and breathe out with me. It’s all going to be OK.” I look her in the eyes and keep whispering, “Just hold on. I’ve got you.”
I’m not sure if she realizes it, but those are the words I told her when I found her on the side of the road. I know the moment she makes the connection, because the color fills her cheeks with a pretty pink and tears build in her eyes.
Then I hear the minister say, “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today.” It’s what I needed for my heart to calm down. I know this is real and she’ll be mine soon. My thumb brushes across the top of her hand, letting her know I’m here beside her.
I’m snapped back to reality when I hear, “Braedyn, please look into Rylee’s eyes and say your vows.”
I do as I’m told. “Rylee, before you, I was a shell of a man. My heart was empty. I never thought I would find someone who completed me like you do. Your smile warms me, your eyes center me, and your arms calm my soul and provide the comfort and peace I need to make it through each day. You are my soul mate. I promise to love and cherish you. To stand by you in sickness and health. I promise to support your hopes and dreams and spend every minute of the rest of my life making those dreams come true.” There are tears running down her cheeks. I lift one of my hands and place it on her face to tenderly wipe away the wetness.
“Rylee, please look into Braedyn’s eyes and say your vows.”
“Braedyn, the first words I ever heard you say to me were ‘Just hold on. I’ve got you.’ They were the last words
I heard before my world went dark, but they were the best words I could have ever heard. My life is complete because of those words. I’ve never felt safer or so loved. I died that day on the side of the road, but you brought me back to life. This day, I vow to you to always hold on to us and never let go. I’ll comfort you when you are weary; I’ll be the light that guides you back to me, and for as long as my heart beats, it will belong to you only. For better or worse, richer or poorer, and in sickness and health.”
After hearing those words, the rest of the ceremony becomes a blur to me. It isn’t until I hear, “You may kiss your bride,” which I do without hesitation, that it strikes home. She is mine.
I didn’t think I could feel more complete, until I hear, “And now, to all the friends and family who have come to celebrate this marriage, I would like to present to you, for the first time anywhere, Mr. and Mrs. Ellington.”
As I look out over everyone in attendance, I see nothing but happy faces. All but one. It’s a sad face, and it belongs to my brother, Gauge. He is sitting all by himself in the last row. I don’t know when he showed up. He wasn’t invited, but I decide It’s time to make amends with him and do everything in my power to help him find someone like Rylee. I’ve been hesitant to take the first step at rebuilding my relationship with Gauge, but in this moment when my life couln’t be more complete, I know it’s time to breach the gap between us. He deserves happiness too.
One Month Later
“Push, you got this, babe,” I encourage her.
“I can’t, Brae. I’m too tired to push any more.”
“Just a couple more times, babe. You can do this. Ready? Push!”
The screams that come from Rylee’s mouth have shivers running down my spine. We are twenty-six hours into labor, and she is exhausted, but we’re in the home stretch. She wanted to do this all natural, but after the fifteenth time she told me to go fuck myself, I was pretty much over it and demanded she get an epidural.
When she looks back on this day, I want her to remember how wonderful it was to bring our child into the world, not how much pain she suffered in doing so.
“The head is crowning,” Doctor Ridgemont says. “Just one more big push, Rylee, and your baby will be here to greet you.”
We still don’t have any idea if we are having a boy or a girl. It has made it tough on Rylee not knowing what color to paint the nursery, so we’ve had to go gender neutral for the whole theme. I don’t care one way or the other if we have a boy or a girl. I plan on having lots of children with Rylee, so if we have at least one boy somewhere in the mix, I’ll be happy, but for now, either is fine with me.
“Brae, I can’t do it. I can’t,” she cries.
“Yes, you can, baby. We’ll do it together. Ready? Push!” She screams one more time while she pushes with all her might. And then I hear it, the wail of little lungs making their entrance into the world.
Doctor Ridgemont smiles at Rylee and me and says, “You have a very healthy little girl.” Tears are falling from my eyes. Rylee is crying too, and yet she is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.
“Braedyn, would you like to cut the cord?” I hear Doctor Ridgemont ask as he hands me the scissors. My hands are shaking as I do the honors. The nurses take my daughter away briefly to clean her up and swaddle her.
When they return, Rylee is half-asleep, but once they hold my precious daughter out to her, she is wide awake. “Isn’t she beautiful, Brae?” she asks
“Not as beautiful as her mother,” I tell her. “Are you sure about the name now that you have seen her?” I ask. We’ve talked about both boy and girl names, but you never know until the moment if the name is fitting or not.
“Yes, I’m positive, Braedyn. Rachel Olivia Ellington. It’s perfect. We’ll call her Roe for short.” She is crying again as she kisses our daughter’s little hands. “I think it's time to let everyone in to meet her, don’t you think?”
“Eventually, Mrs. Ellington. Right now, I just want to hold my beautiful girls and love them.”

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
First and foremost, I need to thank two very special friends who inspired me to do this. Without the support and guidance of Kathy Coopmans and Chelle Bliss, I would have never followed my passion.
Kathy, you have been an inspiration for me. You’ve shown me that following your dreams can be done at any age.
Chelle, the oddest of circumstances brought you into my life, and I am so glad they did. Thank you for letting me be a part of your journey and inspiring me to take mine.
I love you, ladies.
Next, I have to thank the crazy girls I work with day in and day out who have listened to me whine about not following my passion and then pushing me to do so. Carolyne Ringgaard, Jane Bemmerl, Brooke Haack, and Susan Hayes, thank you for sharing this journey with me.
To my beta readers: Karrie Mellott Puskas, Susan Hayes, Susan Crump and Renita McKinney. Thank you for taking time out of your busy lives to read and re-read my copies. Without your feedback, I would have never been able to put this story together.
Eric Battershell and Burton Hughes: For the most amazing cover photo any girl could hope for. Burton gave Braedyn the face that will forever be my pride and joy. You both helped make my first book a reality, and I look forward to working with you again.
Adam Nelson with Adam Nelson Designs: Without your design work, I’d still be staring at a photo trying to figure out what to do with it. Your cover design rocks!!! Thank you for taking time to bring my visions to life.
Julia Goda: The miracle editor who took my raw piece of work and made it beautiful. I know it was a complete challenge for you, and I don’t know how you did it. I’m great at putting words on paper, but forming them into a sentence that everyone will understand is all you. As I’m sure you could tell, language was not a subject I got an A in.
CP Smith and J.M. Walker. Thank you for squeezing me in last minute and formatting my story for everyone to read. You are simply amazing.
Lastly, thank you to all the readers who have supported me by reading Braedyn and Rylee’s story. Rylee represents a time in my life that no one should ever have to experience. I hope you loved their second chance at finding their soul mates and found it as enjoyable as I did writing it.
