  The following day, Dr Gladwell’s lawyers would be presented with a full list of all the items and materials that BIB operatives and RBPF officers had taken from her dental surgery, office building and her home. Her court case, whenever it came up in the future, would be a major event in Barbados.

  As it turned out, Power, Pilessar, Waldron and his three fellow Pressure Group gang members of Kirton, Rowe and Lee, plus Dr Gladwell had all been hung out to dry. They were in police custody, had lost their jobs or positions – some of them prestigious and were facing court trials at the end of which was expected to see them serve long prison terms. Castille was dead and Dr Smith was no longer of importance.

  It proved one thing for sure.

  Crime does not pay.

  In JJ’s case, he had gotten himself out of a tricky position and had survived to tell the tale. He was now reintegrated into BIB. His family was reinvigorated by his presence. He also knew where his future lie and had no need to be looking over his shoulder. Better days were ahead for him and BIB.

  In other Caribbean countries, in North America, Europe and beyond, whoever had underground connections with Dr Gladwell were concerned (worried might be a better word) about what Barbados’ law enforcement authorities had secured from her properties, and might share with their indigenous law enforcement agencies. Fear was in the ear. How soon before there were similar knocks at their various workplaces, clubs, and homes was unknown, but those knocks and raids were coming. They were inevitable. Some would commence in a couple of days.

  Given all that happened to The Organisation, its overseas clients who were lucky enough to have received but not paid for its materials, felt they were off the hook for payment.

  But that was far from the case, for unknown to them or law enforcement authorities, a shadow entity known only to Emma Pilessar already existed and was set to continue The Organisation’s work. Her brainchild, she had established The Agency six months earlier while on a private visit to Brazil. Its purpose? To be a continuum in case something ever went wrong with The Organisation.

  Now sitting in HMP Dodds in Barbados, Pilessar was already contemplating how she would get out of her situation and start her next project? The savings she had stashed away in The Agency for a ‘rainy day’ would come in handy once she got out of Barbados. She would then have to identify another Castille-like character to be her number two once she got it going.
