Courageous

Petra’s grin was bright. “And so, you’re back to helping people. Not as a god, not as a secret agent, but helping”—she nodded at the Anisa Amulet hanging around my neck—“as a superhero.”

“Yeah, about that,” I said, rubbing my chin. “I think that before I start working on these cases, I’m going to find the mask and cape that goes with this amulet.”

  Author’s Note

Well, here it is, the final installment of the Caulborn series. I’d like to thank you for taking this journey with me. I’ve been working on this series for the last seven years, and its ending brings about a whole bunch of emotions. Happiness, relief, sadness, it’s all kind of a big munged up ball of feelings. And for the most part, things went as I was expecting. Vincent was always going to be sent to Tartarus for “breaking” his promise to Megan; Galahad XI was always going to die at Carmilla’s hand; Katrina Grady was always going to become Galahad XII; and Vincent was always going to become Commander Courageous. There were a few surprises to me, too. I didn’t expect Cather to take as big of a role as he did, and I had a whole bunch of stuff planned for Vincent’s mom that just never seemed to fit.

However, as you’ve seen, while this series is over, Vincent’s not done with adventuring yet. I can see him leading his very own Defenders’ Society, protecting Boston and the world from baddies. And who knows, maybe I’ll even write some of those adventures someday. Until then, thanks again for reading, and never let fear get the better of you.
