‘Now…I don’t want to hear any more about Gina—who is now old history,’ he said firmly, giving her a quick kiss. ‘I am far more concerned about our future, Antonia. Flavia warned me that…’

  ‘Flavia?’

He nodded. ‘I really could not leave Italy until I was sure that my mother would fully recover her health. And I wasn’t prepared to phone you, just in case it tipped you over the edge into refusing to ever see me again. So…yes, I have been keeping tabs on you via your sister-in-law. Who has, I may say, been most helpful and encouraging,’ he added with a laugh as Antonia beat her fists furiously against his hard chest.

‘Now, my dearest, you really must watch that temper of yours,’ he teased, easily capturing both her hands and lifting them to his lips. ‘Now that I am a reformed character…’

‘That I don’t believe—not for one minute!’ she murmured, smiling mistily up into his handsome face, before his dark head came down to possess her lips in a long, lingering kiss of total commitment.
