Long ago beast and man shared one world. Then they began to battle.
After many battles the world was split in two. Beasts were given Beastium. Man was given Earth.
A border-wall was made. It closed the two worlds off.
The beasts tried to get through the border-wall many times. The Border Guards had to stop them. Border Guards were trained to defend the border-wall. Battles won by beasts made beasts stronger. Battles won by guards earned them new battle gear. And they got new upgrades. Then their battle gear could do more.
Five guards now defend the border-wall. Their work is top secret. They battle and learn. One day they will become Border Masters. Just like their dads. But first they must learn and become Border Captains.
Their dads were also Border Guards once. They kept learning until they became Border Masters.
And now they make up the Bordaria Master Command. The BMC. The BMC help the Border Guards during battle. They show them how to defend the wall. They give the Border Guards new battle gear.
The guards must earn their new battle gear. They need to learn from their battles. And from their mistakes.
Kai Masters is a Border Captain. He must work with others and win his leader’s badge. Kai must learn more about the beasts. He cannot fail.
The Outlands was a large beast park. The park was closed off from Beastium by a fence and gates. The BMC created the park so they could learn about the beasts.
Border Guards put the mutant beasts inside the park. They didn’t know then that the Outlands was a BMC research park. Now that Kai Masters is a captain he knows. He also knows that the BMC put a computer chip in each beast’s neck. The chip collects data on the beasts.
Kai Masters must use the beast data to learn more about the beasts. He must use what he learns to battle smarter.
It was a clear winter night. Kai Masters was sky watching. He was on the observation deck of his lighthouse. ‘I can see all the stars tonight, BC3,’ said Kai to his robotic dog. ‘There’s not a cloud in the sky.’
‘Yes,’ answered BC. ‘But it’s still cold!’
Kai peered through his telescope. ‘I’m looking at the moon,’ he said. ‘All I can see is white.’
BC turned to look at the moon and said, ‘All I can see is yellow!’
Kai turned and looked at BC. ‘That’s not the moon,’ said Kai. ‘There’s something on your telescopic eye lenses. And it’s glowing! It’s some sort of yellow glowing mud. Toxic mud!’
‘Is it from the mud land?’ asked BC.
‘The mud in the mud land isn’t toxic,’ answered Kai. ‘Well, it wasn’t the last time we were there. This isn’t good,’ he said. ‘I think some toxic slime from the water land might have mixed with some mud from the mud land.’
‘Is it the work of a mega-mutant?’ asked BC.
‘I hope not,’ said Kai. ‘I’m going to take a sample of this mud.’
Kai took his orbix from his pocket. He hit a button and the screen flashed.
Then a flat metal rod came out from the orb. Kai ran the rod through the toxic mud. ‘That’s plenty,’ he said to BC.
Kai hit the button again. The metal rod with the mud went back inside the orb.
Then data began loading onto the screen.
‘I was right, BC,’ said Kai. ‘It is a mix of slime and mud. I’ll clean your eye lenses and then we …’ Before Kai could say any more his orb beeped.
‘And here’s an alert from the BMC,’ Kai said. ‘Come on, BC. It looks like we have some beast-battling to do.’
Beasts were back in Beastium and toxic slime and mud was making its way to Earth. Kai and BC needed to get to the captain’s room fast. It was a secret room that was hidden in the ground under the lighthouse.
‘Into the lift, BC,’ said Kai.
BC ran into the lift. Then Kai said, ‘Underground level 2.’
The lift began to move down through the centre of the lighthouse. When it reached the captain’s room its doors opened.
‘There are two beasts on the loose again,’ said Kai.
‘Are they mutants or mega-mutants?’ asked BC.
‘They didn’t say,’ said Kai. ‘But we’re about to find out.’
Kai pushed his Border Captain Card into the slot and the computers started loading data straight away. An image popped onto the screen.
‘That’s the beast from the mud land,’ said BC. ‘But we washed that beast away into the water land.’
‘We did,’ said Kai. ‘Tiny bits of mud and dirt were still floating in the water when we left the mud land though. Did something happen after we left?’
‘I don’t know,’ answered BC. ‘I hope not.’
Kai looked at the words on the screen. ‘It doesn’t say it’s a mutant but it can’t be the same beast we battled in the mud land.’
‘Unless it has come back together again,’ said BC.
‘I’ll check this beast on my captain’s watch,’ said Kai. ‘Then we’ll know if it’s the same or not.’
Kai quickly found the beast’s name on his watch. He tapped on the name and the strength rating appeared.
‘It’s stronger than when we battled it in the mud land,’ said Kai. ‘But it’s not a mutant or a mega-mutant yet.’
‘It shouldn’t be too hard to battle then,’ said BC.
‘We’ve beaten it before.’
‘The other beast is loading on screen two now.’ Kai turned to screen two. ‘It’s another beast we haven’t battled before. The head looks like the wind beast.’
‘But the body looks a bit like the water beast,’ said BC.
‘This one could be a mutant,’ said Kai. He found the beast on his watch and checked its rating.
‘It’s still only a combo beast,’ said Kai. ‘But why is a beast that’s made from the wind and water beasts in a mud land?’
‘It should be in the ice land,’ said BC. ‘It doesn’t make sense.’
‘It must be able to live in mud,’ said Kai. ‘Something very strange is going on in Beastium.’
‘Will we need to call another Border Guard for help, then?’ asked BC.
‘Yes,’ answered Kai. ‘One of the beasts might change before we get there. If we have a team we will be ready for anything.’
Two combo beasts were back in Beastium. Kai knew he had to get them back into the Outlands quickly. He started looking through the battle files on the computer.
‘We need to find the Border Guard who battled the combo beast,’ said Kai.
‘Look, one of the names is flashing,’ said BC.
‘This guard lives on the water,’ said Kai.
‘In a houseboat!’ added BC.
Kai clicked on the name and the battle file came onto the screen.
‘The battle buddy is a cat,’ said BC. ‘Cats are only good for chasing!’
‘Dogs and cats!’ said Kai. ‘You’ll have to work with this cat BC because this is the guard we need. I’ll send Li a text message to meet us in the mud land. Then we’ll get our gear and go.’
Kai sent Li a message from his orb.
Then he said, ‘Time to gear up.’
The metal doors at the back of the room slid open and Kai and BC walked into the battle chamber.
An image of the ice chopper was on the battle chamber screen.
‘We don’t want that,’ said Kai flicking through the rides. ‘We need something that can move through mud.’
Just then Kai’s orb beeped
‘It’s a
text from Li,’ said Kai. ‘He’s coming in the Jet Stream 2W. He says it’s even better than before.’
‘Did the catbot get any upgrades?’ asked BC.
Kai patted BC’s head and said, ‘Don’t worry about the cat. We have bigger things to chase right now.’
Kai saw the Sludgebot that he used in the mud land last time. ‘The BMC has added loads of upgrades to this, BC,’ he said. ‘And it can join with Li’s Jet Stream 2W. There’s a gadget next to it.’
‘It says Heat-Zap Combo,’ said BC. ‘It must be the Heat Blaster and the water land Super-Zap joined together.’
‘This is perfect for us,’ said Kai and he hit the Sludgebot button. ‘Let’s go, BC.’
Kai and BC took the lift to the transport chamber. The ride was waiting for them when the lift doors opened at the transport chamber’s floor.
Kai put BC into the ride’s cockpit. Then he climbed in after him. He keyed in the codes for the mud land on his orb. The chamber doors opened and the Super Sludgebot shot out the tunnel to Beastium.
Kai and BC flew into blinding golden light. ‘Where are we?’ asked BC. ‘I’ve never seen anything like this before.’
‘We’re in the mud land,’ answered Kai. ‘The brown sludge has turned toxic. It’s all yellow now. Just like the mud that was on your eye lenses.’
‘But how has it happened?’ asked BC.
‘I don’t know,’ answered Kai. ‘But the beasts are tagged by the BMC. My watch picks up those tags so we can track these two beasts down quickly. We need to get them back behind the Outlands’ gates before they can do any more damage.’
‘Oh-oh,’ said BC wagging his tail. ‘Trouble on the way.’
‘Where?’ asked Kai. ‘I can’t see anything?’
And then he heard it.
‘It’s a massive bunch of flying toxic jellyfish!’ yelled Kai. ‘And they’re coming straight at us.’
‘And something else,’ said BC. ‘Can you hear it?’
‘Rock-bombing hawks,’ said Kai. ‘It’s a full-on pest attack!
You zap the birds with your eye lasers when I open the cockpit. I’ll get the flying jellyfish with the Heat-Zap Combo.’
Kai opened the cockpit. BC flew straight out towards the birds and began zapping.
Kai blasted the jellyfish one by one and watched them drop away. The heat-blaster is melting them, thought Kai. Good, only a few to go and then I can help BC with the birds.
‘More birds coming,’ called BC. ‘Too many to handle! They’re dropping something. Something is making more birds!’
All of a sudden the Super Sludgebot was hit by a flying rock-attack. These pests are big trouble, thought Kai as he steadied the Sludgebot.
‘One jellyfish to go and then I can help you BC. Hang in there!’
A text message suddenly flashed on Kai’s cockpit computer.
All at once a terrible screeching noise broke out.
‘Aaagh!’ cried Kai. He hit the button for his ear plugs. Then he looked out the window. All of the birds had folded their wings around their heads. The birds are falling away, thought Kai.
Then Kai looked at the flying jellyfish he’d zapped. They were lying in melted blobs on the mud.
Oh no. They’re turning yellow. Like the yellow toxic mud. What does that mean?
Then Kai saw Ying Li’s catbot. It flew past BC and over the top of Kai’s Super Sludgebot. And its mouth was wide open. So that’s where the terrible noise is coming from, thought Kai.
‘Border Guard Ying Li,’ Kai said into the mouthpiece. ‘Report in for duty.’
‘Ying Li and BF reporting for duty Captain Kai,’ Li’s voice said over the sludgebot’s speakers.
Kai stared at the speakers in shock. He could hardly believe his ears. It’s a girl Border Guard, he thought.
The battle team hovered above the yellow toxic mud. ‘You did a good job with those pests, Li,’ said Kai. ‘Your catbot packs a powerful screech.’
‘She’s very handy in battle,’ said Li.
‘My watch tells me that these two beasts are not very far away,’ said Kai. ‘Follow me, team.’
Kai and Li flew deeper into the mud land. ‘Beasts just ahead on the right,’ Kai said into the mouthpiece. ‘Let’s fly a bit closer and then hover.’
‘Three beasts!’ said BC once they were close enough to see them. ‘The BMC said that there were only two on the loose.’
‘The third doesn’t have a tag,’ said Kai. ‘How is that?’
‘There are two of my combo beasts and one of yours,’ said Li.
‘And our two are battling yours and winning,’ said BF. ‘We can’t let them win! If we do they will both change.’
Without warning, the two beasts launched a huge mud and wind attack and sent the team flying.
‘Whoa!’ cried Li as she flipped over and over.
‘Are you okay Li?’ Kai asked as he steadied his bot.
‘I am now,’ answered Li. ‘That was a double attack from those two beasts.’
‘Yes,’ said Kai. ‘We must stop them before any of them can change. Battle team, go!’
But the team was too late.
By the time they reached the battle all that was left of Kai’s combo beast was a pile of dust. Glowing yellow dust.
‘One looks exactly the same but the other one has changed,’ said Kai. He quickly took a photo of the changed beast with his orb. An image popped onto the screen. ‘This one’s now a mega-mutant,’ he said quietly.
‘But they both beat the mud beast. Why did only one change?’
‘Something strange has happened,’ said BC. ‘How did the mud beast come back? And why did only one combo beast change into a mega-mutant?’
Kai looked down at the two beasts. Then he looked again at all that was left of the mud beast.
‘Sneak down and get some of that glowing yellow dust in your hatch, BC,’ said Kai. ‘Quick, before the beasts see us.’
BC flew quietly down behind the beasts. He landed softly in the mud beside the glowing pile of dust. Kai hit a button on his orb and BC’s hatch popped open. Hurry, thought Kai. The dust is sinking into the mud and will be lost forever.
‘Look at the dogbot,’ BF said to Li. ‘He’s rolling in the mud just like an ordinary dog.’
‘I heard that,’ said Kai. ‘BC is getting samples for me to test. You two bots must buddy up …’
‘If we are to beat these beasts,’ Li added.
Then, without warning, both beasts turned on the battle team. Their huge wings opened and their mouths drew breath.
‘Look out!’ shouted BC from below.
The battle team was caught in a deadly spinning mud spout.
‘Meow!’ screamed BF as she shot out the top of the spout.
Kai could see that BC was next. ‘When you get shot out, find BF and stay with her,’ he said to BC.
All at once the spout twist became even faster. ‘We need to split up Li,’ said Kai. ‘I’m hitting the button now!’
Instantly the two rides split apart. One after the other they shot out the top of the spout.
When Kai finally got control of the Sludgebot again he found he was close to the rock land.
‘Report in, Ying Li,’ Kai said. ‘Where are you?’
‘I’m with the battle buddies on the other side of the mud land. BC got a howl-attack upgrade. I’ve turned it on,’ answered Li.
Excellent, thought Kai as he flew rapidly towards the group. As he did he told the team about his new battle plan. ‘Listen carefully,’ Kai said into the mouthpiece. ‘BC and BF, join forces and launch a mega-sonic howl at the beast’s heads. A howling dog and a screeching cat should fix that beast! Li, when the beast lifts its wings over its head wrap the chains around them.’
‘Will do,’ Li answered.
‘I’ll take care of that tail,’ said Kai. ‘BGT, go!’
The beast had its back to the battle team. Its long tail had finally stopped spinning. It thought it had won. It was about to fly away toward
s the border-wall when the battle buddies attacked its head with a mega-howl attack.
The beast roared and lifted its wings to its ears. Kai flew down to the tail and latched the bot’s claws onto it.
Li flew round the body and wrapped the chains around the beast’s closed wings. ‘It’s working!’ she cried.
‘Not quite,’ said Kai. ‘It’s time to spin this beast dry. Ready, Li?’
‘Ready,’ answered Li.
Kai and Li spun the beast round and round and round. Toxic mud, slime and water flew out in all directions.
‘Now, we’re done,’ said Kai.
Kai activated the ray cage. The beast was caught.
The battle team flew off with the caged beast to the Outlands gates. When the team reached the gates, Kai sent a message to the BMC to open them. ‘That combo beast that had no tag just vanished when we beat it,’ said Kai. ‘Very weird.’
‘Was it like the three-headed snake in the rock land?’ asked BC. ‘It kept making more and more heads. Then when we beat it, it vanished too.’
‘Yes but beasts can’t make more beasts, can they?’ wondered Kai. ‘Earth would be in a lot of danger if that ever happened. Come on, it’s time to push this beast behind the gates and go home.’
‘I caught some bird poo in my hatch for testing,’ said BC as he put the beast inside the gates. ‘I think the pests were making more and more pests too!’
‘Good dog, BC!’ said Kai. ‘We need to test these. And you did a great job today, too, Border Guard Ying Li. We made a great team.’
‘Thanks Captain,’ said Li.
