Chapter 1
I stared dully at the magazine I had laid in front of me in a form of torture I seemed to want to inflict upon myself. I had been staring at it for a good ten minutes but I still couldn’t believe that I was reading it. It was an older photo of me, being taken at a party my dad had thrown back when we had money and sometimes famous people would come to the parties. I was stepping out of a limo, my dress a deep red and glittering under the photographer’s lights. I remembered that night well, mostly because I had spent ages picking out the dress for it. My husband and I had gone four months without having sex and I was worried he had been losing interest in me. The dress had caused an intense bout of lovemaking later that night, in one of the closets at the party.
Down at the bottom of this photo was a picture of Bradley. He was well dressed for a party as well. This was more of a candid shot. It implied he was at the same party as I had been. It implied that he had been in the limo with me.
And above this helpful suggestion of us dating or fucking or whatever, was the headline MARRIED BILLIONAIRE SLEEPING WITH HIS OWN ASSISTANT! Never mind the fact he was in the middle of a divorce or the very woman he was divorcing had leaked this story to the press and for some reason they had all lunged on it like a group of hungry wolves. Winter must have paid people off to care about this story, in the middle of actual celebrities they could have been making stuff up on.
It didn’t matter. I was now in the gossip mags and the internet was doing no favors either — “slut” was thrown around, as well as “home wrecker” — as if I was the reason Bradley was divorcing Winter. My phone had been buzzing off the hook. People I barely knew were trying to get a hold of me and reporters were calling too. They hadn’t found out where I lived yet but it was only a matter of time.
I let out a long sigh wondering how I was going to handle this. It had been a day since the news leaked online and all over the magazines. Bradley had texted me and told me to sit tight, whatever in the world that meant. But I had been sitting tight and was going stir-crazy. All I could think about was Winter’s sneering, glowing face as she looked at the magazines and of the look on her face when she saw Bradley and I together in his office.
I pushed the magazine away from me, laying down on the bed. I could hear Greg snoring down the hall, oblivious to what felt like his mother’s failings. I had to think about what I was going to do next. The answer that had hung in the air since I had seen Bradley kissing Winter came back to the forefront — I’d have to quit. Only now, I don’t know who would hire me. How could I spin it to future employers? Please hire me, I will be a magnet for your gossip magazines. And oh, I fucked my boss.
Just as I was about to give up and try to sleep, my cell rang. It was Bradley. I answered it on the second ring, not caring if it looked desperate.
“Hey.” I said quickly.
“Did I wake you?”
“No. I don’t know if I can sleep.”
Bradley cleared his throat, “How are you holding up?”
I leaned against my pillows, “I’ve been better.”
“Me too.” He admitted.
I turned to lay on my side, looking up at the moon, “Are you at home?”
“Yeah, are you?”
I laughed a little, “Of course I am.”
There was a long pause and then, “Do you mind if I come by?”
“Now?” I said surprised.
“Yeah. I’d really like to see you. And it’s only Saturday. I still have too long to go until Monday.”
I felt a warmth start at my toes at the thought of him wanting to see me, “Yeah, okay.”
I gave him my address and he said he’d be there in thirty minutes. I tried to clean myself up, knowing that I had spent all day wallowing in bed, depressed and upset, avoiding everyone. I hopped in the shower, trying to get clean and look as good as I could. I aimed for the “lazily rolled out of bed to see the lover” look not “everyone thinks I’m a slut” look.
Bradley was there thirty minutes later, in casual clothes, which I had never seen him in. Even in Vegas, he had always woken up before me and I had always seen him clean and pressed. Tonight, however, his hair was messy, falling over his eyes, his shirt crumpled — just a regular t-shirt, faded and old — and his pants were baggy on him.
“Hey.” He said bashfully.
I ushered him in quickly before anyone could take any photos.
“Were you followed?” I asked, feeling ridiculous.
He cast a glance around my living room and I wondered what he was thinking, “No. I don’t think so. At least I hope not. You don’t happen to have any booze, do you?”
“Yeah, I do,” I went over to the kitchen, Bradley trailing after me, looking slowly around the room, “What do you want?”
“Scotch.” Bradley said bluntly.
“Uhm…I have vodka.”
“I’ll have it. Just throw some ice in it.”
I paused again, “It is actually birthday cake flavored vodka.”
He looked at me with a bemused expression on his face, “Even better.”
I poured him a glass of the birthday cake flavored vodka I had but I made myself some tea. I needed something that would help me unwind and while alcohol would do that, my tolerance was non-existent. One drink was enough sometimes to make me drunk and it was embarrassing.
“So,” Bradley said after taking a sip of his drink, “You and I both knew that Winter catching us like that wouldn’t be used somehow.”
I sighed, “I was hoping it wouldn’t be like this.”
“Me too.”
We lapsed into silence as I poured out my tea. Bradley rubbed his face as though he could wipe everything clear from his brain in order to sleep.
I finally said what I had been thinking, “I’m going to have to quit.”
He jerked his head up, “Why?”
“Are you serious, Bradley? Of course I’m going to have to quit. It’s all over the news that you’re fucking your ‘personal assistant’. It makes you look bad and it makes me look terrible. The best way would be to cut it clean and run.”
“But, Serena, what about a job?”
I shrugged, “I don’t know. I’ll find something.”
“What if I keep you on the payroll?”
“Then it feels like you are paying me to sleep with me.”
Bradley sighed, “Let me help then.”
“I can’t.” I protested.
“Serena,” Bradley said, getting up and walking over to me, “This is my fault. I got you involved in this mess with Winter. I can’t just have you quit and go penniless, not with Greg.”
“Let me think about it, okay?” I said.
Bradley nodded and trailed his fingers up and down my arms. His touch was comforting. He leaned down and kissed me but I pulled away.

Not here,” I said, “Greg could wake up.”
“I haven’t seen your bedroom yet.” He said to me, a little smile on his face.
I took his hand and pulled him towards my room. I wished I had tidied it up but I naively thought we wouldn’t have ended up here. Silly, foolish but I didn’t mind. He was seeing my room as I liked it — the bed unmade, the TV on and making a quiet, comforting glow and low hum. My closet was open with some clothes thrown about.
“You’re a bit messy.” He said in my ear.
“Sorry we can’t all be perfect like you.” I teased.
Bradley wrapped his arms around me from behind, kissing along my neck, “You’re perfect to me.”
I felt that melting feeling again, one that was I getting to know extremely well. He knew just what to say, I thought, he always did. Winter started to fade away in the background as he kissed my neck again, his hands trailing across my stomach.
“I missed you.” He admitted in my ear.
“I did too.”
Bradley slowly moved his hands to my breasts, cupping each one. I hadn’t been wearing a bra because I was at home and his hands touched me through the thin fabric. He pinched both of my nipples causing my body to quiver. He laughed a little in my ear.
Bradley turned me to face him and he kissed me. It was an amazing kiss, deep and wonderful. It spoke of promises and things to come in the future. It made me feel as though everything would be okay. He slid off my shirt and cupped my breasts again, kissing them slowly, as though he was worshiping me. I didn’t mind being worshipped. He took each nipple in his mouth and sucked on it slowly, moving his tongue around very gently, nibbling on them at the end before he removed them from his mouth.
I started to undress him. First his shirt, where I ran my hands over his chest in glee. Then he pants, unzipping it and taking them off. He was hard against his boxers and I wanted him badly. But I made myself wait, told myself to be patient. Tonight it was just us and no one could catch us. I pressed my hand against his manhood and felt it throb under me. Bradley slid off my pants, leaving me in my panties. He gently pushed me down on the bed. He slid off my panties and he took off his own boxers.
“You’re beautiful.” He said to me, his voice thick with lust.
I felt myself blush, a deep red that seemed to go all the way down to my toes. He kissed me again, moving his tongue in my mouth. I responded by pressing my body against him and wrapping my legs around him. I needed him. But he needed me too, this billionaire with the crazy ex-wife.
He slid into me. I was so wet at this point that we didn’t need to take it slow. He slid into me in one fell swoop and made my heart pound. I was being filled and it felt wonderful. I let out a delighted sigh and arched my hips to meet him, trying to take him as deep as I could get him in me. Our hips touched and he cradled me in his arms. He felt amazing. Goosebumps had broken out all over my body, leaving me shaking gently.
Bradley began to move in me. He started off very slowly, moving at a gentle place, letting me feel every single inch of him. He felt glorious. He felt wonderful. I closed my eyes and let the warmth flow over me. He moved my legs so my ankles were on his shoulders as he picked up his pace. He would enter me to the fullest and then pull out all the way and repeat. Each time he left I wanted him again and as he slid into me fully, it made me whimper. I had to keep quiet so all I could do was whimper in pleasure.
Bradley soon was too into it to keep up his slow pace and he started thrusting faster in me. My ankles bounced on his neck as he took me. He filled me up and fucked me hard and I loved it. I tried to be as quiet as possible as he thrust in me.
“You like that?” He said quietly, roughly.
I whimpered in response.
“Of course you do, Serena. I know what you like.” He said to me.
He did, he knew all of it. He knew everything that I liked. I arched my back as I came, shivering in pleasure. He came at the same time, shuddering hard. We both fell silent as he held me, both of us breathing heavily. Bradley rolled off of me, lying next to me, his fingers entwined in mine.
“Will you stay the night?” I ask, sounding foolish, like a teenager who just slept with her boyfriend after prom.
Bradley turned on his side, wrapping one arm around me, nuzzling his face into my neck, “Of course, Serena. There isn’t anywhere I’d rather be.”
We fell asleep together.
Chapter 2
The flashes that went off were blinding. I was seeing stars in front of my eyes. The volume from the photographers was almost deafening.
“Serena, how did you start dating Mr. Bradley?”
“Serena, did you get the job by sleeping with Mr. Bradley?”
“Serena! What example are you setting for your son by sleeping with your boss?”
That last one almost got me. I wanted to turn around right then and there and spit in whoever had asked me that question. But I didn’t feel like being a story on the news, more than I already was. I was already worried that Greg would hear something from his classmates and come home asking questions.
I managed to get inside the building where the paparazzi weren’t allowed to enter. There were more people than I liked in the big lobby downstairs. Were they reporters too? A couple looked over and opened their mouths as if they were going to shout at me. I managed to dart inside the elevator quickly before they could say anything. Was it just me or was the girl behind the desk giving me the stink-eye?
The elevator rose up and I tried to steel myself in case Winter or some other asshole was near Bradley’s office. The doors opened slowly and I let out a breath I didn’t realize I had been holding. The office was empty. I walked over to my desk, closing my eyes briefly. I already had a headache and hadn’t even started the work day yet. The phone started to ring.
“Don’t bother picking it up.”
Bradley was in the doorway of his office, taking a sip of coffee. My hand had been hovering over the phone but dropped limply by my side.
“Why?”
“It’ll just ring again in five seconds. Reporters have been ringing all day. Winter must have leaked this direct number. I’m trying to get the number changed today.”
I sighed. The phone went silent and sure enough, in about five seconds, it was ringing again.
“She leaked my e-mail address too,” Bradley said, “I’ve been getting e-mails at a pace that I can’t even keep up with. Come on, I brought you some coffee.”
I followed him into his office. It looked the same as always. I don’t know why I was expecting it to look differently. I guess I was expecting some big neon sign over the desk, saying in big bright neon lights that it was where Winter had caught us having sex. He had the news on in his living room area.
“What are you trying to do?” I asked, “Punish yourself?”
He shook his head, “No,” He looked uncomfortable, “My lawyer said Winter is doing an interview with some morning show.” Bradley didn’t look at me as he said it.
“Are you serious?” I exclaimed, loudly.
“Serena, don’t freak out.”
“Are you serious?” I repeated but this time it was aimed at him directly, “How can I not? There is only reason she is going to be on some morning show — to talk about us.”
“I know that.”
I felt frustrated, “Are you going to stop her?”
“How could I stop her?” I didn’t have an answer, “We can’t do anything, Serena. She’s going to do this tour to try to get more power in the divorce.”
I suddenly felt sick, “She’s going to talk about us.” I repeated dully.
“Serena…”
But the sick feeling washed over me, over taking me. I was going to throw up, I realized with a start. I covered my mouth to stop a potential mess and ran to his private bath down the hall. Crouching over the toilet, I threw up, the stress finally getting to me. I puked everything up and then laid there, my head hanging over the toilet seat, trying to catch my breath.
/> “Serena?” Bradley said, sticking his head in hesitantly.
My stomach was rolling, “Water. Please.” I croaked.
Bradley’s head ducked out and then he came back, handing me a cup of water. I sat, propped up against the toilet, sipping on the water gingerly.
“Are you okay?”
I shook my head, “I’m just stressed. Way more than I knew, apparently.” For a second I thought I was going to cry but I told myself not to be a baby.
“You shouldn’t watch the interview.”
“Why not?” I sighed, “If I don’t, I’ll just hear bits and pieces of it through other people.”
Bradley turned on the TV that was in the bathroom (which I found ridiculous for an office bathroom but I would never say it out loud) and he sat down on the rim of the tub (like I said, ridiculous). The news program was finishing up some boring thing about healthy eating. I sipped my water but my stomach still felt like it was going to act up again. My head was pounding at this point. The interviewer introduced Winter and the sight of her made my stomach growl loudly, as though I was hungry even though I had just thrown everything up.
Winter’s hair had been dyed. Gone were the platinum locks. Instead she was back to the mature brunette color she had sported in her wedding photos. She no longer looked like the “bimbo bride”. She was wearing a woman’s suit with a pencil length skirt. I almost laughed — Winter was wearing fake glasses too, in a pathetic attempt to look as though she was smart. Even her fake nails had been changed to a dark brown to match her outfit. I felt pissed off just seeing her, with her fake sadness splashed across her face like a Halloween mask.
The interviewer, some lady named Amanda, started asking her run of the mill questions first. Winter preened and looked pleased with herself and all the attention she was getting. Bradley was silent and I didn’t say a word either.
“Now,” Amanda said, as though she was changing to a very serious subject, “Who wasn’t envious of your wedding to Bradley Gable three years ago. It was glamorous and luxurious and the talk of the town.”
