Olive - The Chosen One

Matty saw his father standing there and secretly began to tremble inside.

  He said ‘‘what’s the problem?’’

His father explained that the car kept cutting out and stalling. Would it be possible for him to have a look as he could not be without a car as his mother was sick. Matty offered his father a coffee whilst he had a peep. The silence was deafening as the whistling had stopped, you could cut the atmosphere with a knife.

Matty’s father Fred said ‘‘how have you been son? Your mother and I have missed you.’’

Matty told his father that the car needed a new spark plug along with another part which he didn’t have in stock but, if he returned the next day, he would fix it for him.

  Fred looked relieved.

‘‘What is wrong with mamma?’’ asked Matty.

Matty learnt that his mother had a small fall whilst hanging the washing out, she had twisted her ankle and would really appreciate a visit from Matty as she missed him so.

Matty thought to himself ‘what she missed him?’

All the times he sat there feeling the love in his heart whilst she and Fred pulled him to pieces and now that they didn’t have him or see him, she missed him!!!

‘‘Ok, well I will see you tomorrow 9.00am sharp, give my love to mamma.’’

Fred gave him a very awkward hug and left. Matty put the radio back on and started whistling to ‘Fire up that Engine.’

It was strange seeing his father after all this time and his father looked sort of humble not like the bully he had always been.

When his father swung by the next day he asked Matty whether he would go and visit his mother. Matty was apprehensive, he sort of wanted to but, he also felt why should he? Speranza had taught him all about forgiveness and people’s failings in life. He explained that sometimes it is because they have suffered themselves in their own childhood and then it carries on in their lives. Matty accepted the invitation but, said that he would like to bring Speranza with him as he had made him aware of his self-worth. Fred wasn’t too happy about this but, agreed as surely Matty with a friend was better than no Matty and he knew that it would cheer Maria-Tia up (Matty’s mamma.)

The car was easily fixed and Matty told his father that it was on the house but, next time he would have to pay. Matty smiled and his father smiled, maybe they could renew family bonds after all.

The day for the visit to Matty’s parent’s arrived. They turned up loaded with vegetables from the veg patch, a bottle of red vino called Primitivo which was the local wine of Salento and a positive attitude. Matty felt very nervous, his hands were shaking but, his parents were his parents and he loved them unconditionally. He was prepared to let bygones be bygones if they could accept him for who he was. Maria-Tia was sitting in the rocking chair and struggled to stand up to greet her son and his friend.

Matty said ‘‘no, don’t worry getting up, I can bend down and hug you.’’

Speranza took it all in, the polite conversation, it was a little stifled but, thought that these fairies did have good hearts but, they needed to think before they spoke in the future as cruel words could break a little fairy’s personality.

Matty explained how he met Speranza and what he was doing in his life, how he had his own business and had managed to create a solid life for himself. How he had his eye on a really pretty fairy and how his confidence had grown because of Speranza.

Speranza taught him that in order to move forward with your life positively, you need to be able to put the past behind you, forgive but, maybe never forget. You mustn’t let things that happen to you tarnish your life forever. Don’t let bed things plaque you as this will have a very negative effect on your life.

His parents explained how they had missed him, they had always loved him and had meant no harm. Sometimes things were said in jest, wrongly in jest and perhaps taken the wrong way but, they didn’t mean it and they were sorry. They wanted to be given the chance to rebuild a life with Matty, it was never too late they said.

And so that is how Matty came to have 1.5 sets of parents, he was one very lucky fairy.

Olive looked on. She had seen the transformation in Matty and put it down to Speranza’s patience and understanding and felt that other fairies should not suffer in this way, ever. Not everyone had a Speranza to help them, not everyone was that fortunate.

9th Wish - The art of forgiveness

Olive went to visit the two fairies Speranza and Matty and told them that she now fully understood the plight of Matty. She felt she wanted to use one of her wishes to ensure that other fairies never felt the way that Matty had felt.

They made a circle of car tyres as after-all Matty was the laughing mechanic and this wish was really in support of Matty. All three of them sat in the middle as it was rather a big circle. They held hands.

  Matty chuckled.

‘It was sort of funny’ he thought.

‘‘Calling Priscilla, calling Priscilla’’ chanted Olive. Within a few minutes Priscilla appeared.

‘‘Hello my fairy child’’ she said ‘‘it has been a long time. Are you ready for your 9th wish?’’

  ‘‘I am’’ Olive said.

Olive explained Matty’s plight, what he had been through but, how he had managed to put it all aside and forgive. She said that not everyone had the art of forgiveness and she felt it was a very important trait to have. Priscilla agreed and once again smiled to herself thinking how sensible and in tune with other people’s feelings Olive was. She waved her magic fairy wand, lilac fairy dust blew throughout the olive tree fields making fairies wiser in the art of forgiveness. With a little bow, Priscilla flapped her fairy wings and off she flew knowing that Olive only had one wish left.

‘I wonder how she will use it’ she thought to herself. She should really use it for herself.

  CHAPTER 21

  CHRISTMAS IN THE OLIVE FIELDS

Everybody loves Xmas and the olive tree fairies were no exception. It was the time when all families got together and celebrated and as this was Renesmee’s first Xmas, it was even more exciting. The boys were flying in from LA. Destiny and the girls were making the olive trees pretty by draping Christmas lights all around them. Birch was supplying Xmas trees to everybody and Oak was arranging a massive New Year’s Eve party for Capodanno at the fairy centre. Everyone was in high spirits. Destiny was planning to dress up as Befana on 6th January which is celebrated everywhere throughout Italy. Befana is a witch who brings gifts to the fairy children on the Epiphany. It was going to be a very exciting time for everyone.

The boys had been out spending in L.A. The private jet was laden with presents, they felt that this year they wanted to spoil everyone especially their mammas. They felt so blessed since Renesmee was born. She was such a good and placid little fairy. She was so very pretty and cute. Everyone said so, a blond little fairy angel with the bluest eyes you had ever seen.

When the plane landed in Lecce private airport, the paparazzi were out in full flow.

‘‘Please just a little shot of you both with Renesmee’’ they shouted.

Destiny was waiting along with Cielo and the girls. She was quite happy to have a photo or two with her grand-daughter. She made sure she dressed the part! She was dressed all in white with a gorgeous fake fur jacket and a soft fluffy fur hat. She was dripping in diamonds. Oh yes!! She had come up in the world ever since her son became famous! Luna hugged his mother tightly and thought how stunning she looked. She was the most stunning, glamorous nonna in the whole of Salento. Renesmee was dressed in a white furry bunny rabbit fairy suit, she looked so cute and was already smiling for the cameras. She was such a sweetie.

The headlines in the local fairy magazine said ‘Luna arrives with his partner Dandy and their adorable little fairy bunny Renesmee. The story inside showed the glamorous nonna hugging Renesmee and giving the peace sign.

‘‘Pace e Amore per Natale’’ she shouted.

The boys agreed to do a Xmas photo shoot in the o
live fields for the magazine. They were being paid a huge amount of money and had told Oak that they wanted to donate it all to the new fairy centre. They felt they had been so gifted in their lives and they wanted other fairies to have the same experience. Money was money but, the most important thing for them was love and they had plenty of that.

All the fairies attended the Xmas eve fairy mass which was held in the local fairy church. Padre Raffaele spoke of peace and love for all this Xmas. In his sermon he spoke of less fortunate fairies and hoped that every fairy in the land would open their hearts this Xmas to help those that were not so lucky, to those that had or were suffering.

A big celebration had been planned in the olive fields for Xmas eve. A long table had been set up which ran down the length of the olive field. All the fairies that lived in this olive field were invited. Fairy santa flew in on his sleigh which was laden with Xmas presents for the fairy children. The reindeers looked all sparkly as they had crystal necklaces draped around their necks which caught the lights and sparkled as they descended into the olive fields. A big party was in order, the excitement was felt in the air. Traditional food was laid out on the tables along with special deserts made especially for such an occasion. Renesmee could not believe her eyes and kept flapping her little pink fairy wings, smiling and pointing. A band was set up and began to play Xmas songs which echoed over the fields and villages. Everybody was in the Xmas spirit.

Xmas morning was crisp and bright, the sun was shining, there was no snow for these fairies!

As a surprise Luna had arranged for a fake snow machine to be brought in. It would cover the olive fields in white fake snow which would help the fairies to believe in magic. They would feel that they were living in a white fairy land. By 11.00am the fairies were able to dance through white snow. A feeling of extreme happiness fell over the olive fields this particular Xmas.

Xmas day was a day when families got together and celebrated. The fairies would sit around their fairy Xmas trees and open their presents, laugh, chat and talk about the year they had just experienced. They would then eat a massive dinner of all the delights of Italy which would be followed by games. The fairies loved to play fairy bingo and fairy charades after they had eaten. It was all so much fun. On Xmas eve they would all wrap up and go along and see the fairy nativity where fairy Jesus laid in a manger, his fairy parents would dress the part, it was a sight to be seen. Different stalls would be set up which depicted the old times, the fairies were able to live in the past just for an hour or so.

Xmas in the olive fields was a time for family bonding and everyone joined in. Nobody was ever alone at this time of year. If you didn’t have anyone then the fairy centre was open to all.

In the fairy culture everyone was their family. Peace, love and unity was their motto.

  CHAPTER 22

THE FAIRIES HIT LONDON - WOWSER!

It had always been Destiny’s dream to visit her beloved England, London! This was the place where she was born, she wanted to show her family their roots, meet the fairy Queen Henrietta and do some serious shopping. After all, there was no better place to shop than London. The boys knew this and decided a family trip was in order. It would soon be Destiny’s and Cielo’s wedding anniversary, so what better present? A plan was put in place. It was to be kept top secret, the parents were not to know!

Luna and Dandy first approached Olive and Willow with the idea. Would they like to come along with Oak and Birch? No-one needed to be asked twice. Sunshine, Rainbow and Speranza were also invited as they were part of the extended family, everyone was beyond excited. It would be Renesmee Pearla’s first visit to see her nonna’s heritage. She was still very young but, very intelligent and inquisitive.

A long list was drawn up of places to visit, hotels were booked, limousines were arranged and the private jet was cleaned and spruced up ready for the big occasion.

The day was fast approaching so Luna told his mamma and papi to get ready for a holiday of a life-time. We will be flying into the fairy airport located in Salento to take you on an adventure.

Destiny and Cielo were trying to guess.

‘‘Where are we going? Will I need a bikini and swim-wear? Have I packed the right clothes?’’

  Destiny spoke to the girls.

‘‘Please give me a hint, just a little hint.’’

All they could say was ‘‘mamma, you will love it but, I wouldn’t pack bikinis and I would take an umbrella!’’

Destiny thought maybe they were going to the rain forest as the fairies had been there before. Olive thought she would give her a mother a very small hint and started to curtsy every time she saw her.

‘Mio Dio - OMG!’ thought Destiny ‘am I being crowned the Queen Fairy of the Olive Fields?’

The day for the big journey arrived at last. The boys had flown in the night before and three fairy helicopters would be arriving at any moment to take them to the airport, everybody was full of anticipation…..

They boarded the private jet. Pink champagne was served along with a few little eateries. Destiny had a smile on her face that made everyone smile to themselves.

Cielo kept clearing his throat in a ‘when are you going to spill the beans’ sort of way.

‘‘Ok’’ said Luna as he jumped to his fairy feet. He flapped his wings, getting carried away with where they were going ‘‘we are off to London’’ he exclaimed. Everyone clapped and cheered, Destiny shed a little tear ‘‘I am going to my homeland to see my parents?’’ she said in a whisper.

Cielo gave a gruff ‘‘no way’’ and wiped a stray tear away from his eye. After all sky fairies don’t cry, do they?

It was only a short two and a half hour flight to the private landing strip at Stansted airport. Sunshine and Speranza were holding hands. It looked like things were getting serious between those two, love was in the air. Renesmee Pearla was giggling, well everyone else was laughing so it made her laugh. She was the sweetest little fairy girl ever, the boys looked at her and thought maybe it is time to give her a brother or sister and gave each other a knowing squeeze of the hand.

Luna pulled a long list of ‘To do things’ out of his pocket. He read them out making sure he hadn’t forgotten anything. They were going to explore London on the fairy tube, visit Buckingham Palace with the hope of catching a glimpse of the glamorous fairy Queen Henrietta, she was the Fairy Queen envied by all. They wanted to go to Clarridges for tea and scones, Madame Tussauds, The Planetarium because everyone was so obsessed by stars and the universe, London Bridge, London Zoo, Trafalgar Square to feed the fairy pigeons, the list was endless. A trip to London would not be complete without a visit to fairy Harrods and fairy Harvey Nichols, fairy Convent garden was a must, maybe they could take a show or two in and then they would visit Petticoat Lane for some bargains. They were told to be aware of the fairy pick-pockets but, they would all be on their guard. The young ones were desperate to shop in fairy Camden Market. They knew you could just get all the coolest fairy clothes there and at bargain prices.

They landed with great ease. The chauffeur driven limousines were waiting to whisk them straight into the heart of London. The paps had somehow heard about the famous visitors.

‘How on earth did they get to know?’ thought the boys ‘everyone had kept it such a secret!’

As they came down the plane steps, cameras were flashing. They shouted to Destiny ‘‘where are you going?’’

‘‘I am going to meet the bella fairy Queen Henrietta’’ she joked. Little did she know that it was true! She gave a regal wave and flashed a huge diamond that Cielo had surprised her with. This was the picture that was all over the fairy ‘I saw it first’ magazine the next morning ‘Luna and Dandy with their mamma Destiny.’ The headlines read ‘The fairies arrive in London to meet with the Queen.’

All eyes were on Renesmee Pearla who already knew how to smile for the cameras and had somehow picked up the peace sign from Sunshine and Rainbow. The papers certainly loved these fair
ies.

Luna and Dandy had booked them all into the famous classic fairy Ritz hotel in Piccadilly where they were checked in feeling like royalty. They were greeted by bell-boys who whisked their fairy cases up to their rooms. You could literally slip back into the fairy Edwardian times in this hotel where the lavish rooms dated back to fairy Louis XV1. They were lavishly styled and graced with antiques, silk and 24 carat gold leaf! Luxury at it’s best! They were looking forward to sipping afternoon tea in the chandelier lit palm’s court. Ooh!!! Stravagante! They just couldn’t get enough, they were served tea in Versace bone china cups which were edged with gold leaf. Mio Dio - OMG! Tea served in bone china cups tasted delicious.

The hotel was in walking distance of some of the main attractions, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and fairy Harrods. Destiny was quivering with excitement.

They decided to eat in the hotel’s luxury cuisine diner on the first night. They would settle in before starting their adventure the next day. They were all treated like fairy royalty, the waiters bowed and called them Sir or Madam.

  ‘All very becoming’ thought Destiny.

Destiny’s parents were waiting for them in the restaurant. They ran so fast towards Destiny that their fairies wings lifted them a little higher in the air than they had intended. It was such a lovely feeling. Destiny wished that she could see her parents more and decided that this was a promise she was going to make to herself.

‘If only they were not so afraid to fly on a plane’ she thought.

Rainbow felt everyone stared at her in this hotel. She didn’t quite get it! Ok! She knew she was very colourful in her long, flowing hippy dress with sunflowers in her hair. She wore open sandals which I guess may have looked strange as it was the middle of winter. She didn’t offer the peace sign because she wasn’t sure if it was the sign to give so she just smiled intently in a peace giving way.
