The Assassin

Abbey blushed at his compliment. “And this will make you happy? I don’t want you to resent me or the children because you gave up a life you loved.”

“A life of nightclubs and one-night stands? No, Abbey. I didn’t love that life. It satisfied me until the one I truly love came along. This is the life I love. The one where I’m a father and a husband. This is the life I want.”

Abbey hugged him tight to her. She knew she was the luckiest woman in the world. To be treasured by the most sinfully sexy man she had ever laid eyes on, to be the mother of three beautiful children, to be surrounded by an extended family who loved her—she really couldn’t ask for more.

She purred as Sloan’s lips nuzzled her neck. “How about we go over those dance steps again? I just want to make sure they’re secure in my mind.”

“Sure.” Abbey took his hand and led him to the middle of the living room. Searching for the music on her phone, she tapped play when she found it. She lined up with her husband as the notes echoed softly. Their feet moved in time to the beat.

His hand on her belly set her on fire. His lips on her temple, feeling the grumble of his growl against her flesh, was too much. She tried to laugh, but couldn’t. It was easy to tell that Sloan had had an ulterior motive all along.

“Should we start a new routine here in the living room or back in our bedroom?” he breathed.

  “Bedroom. Quickly.”

  “As you wish, luv.”

Abbey grabbed the baby monitor from the coffee table as she followed Sloan hurriedly to the bedroom, shedding her clothes with every step she took. Sloan was already naked before she stepped into the room and locked the door. She had waited hours since their lesson to make love to the man, and as usual, he didn’t disappoint her.

Far too soon, her body trembled in his arms as she cried out in pleasure. His growls of release followed swiftly after.

Dozing after a day of dancing and lovemaking, Abbey watched her husband sleep. She still was a little anxious. Sloan was infamous. He had made many enemies in his lifetime. They would come looking for him someday. And she had just killed a major arms dealer. She certainly was a target too. She hadn’t wanted to kill Torelli. But he was about to kill the man she loved. She had to do it. And she would do it again.

Besides, he was right. Their new home would keep them safe. She would defend their family by his side. Nothing would break their love apart. She gently brushed a black lock of hair from his face. This time, they would be ready.

  Life couldn’t be more perfect.
