“Like that, angel?” he whispered, pushing up her sweater and unhooking her bra so he could slide his left hand around her body and captured one of her heavy breasts as it hung so enticingly below her bent body. He leaned forward and kissed her back before biting down on her shoulder, never stopping his circling of her puckered star. “I want to take you here.” His voice was deep and filled with need.

“Yes,” Claire whispered back. “I want that, too.”

“Do you, my darling little minx?”

  “Yes.”

The word hissed from her as Jake slid his thumb inside of her to the first knuckle. He pumped his hips, mimicking the movement with his thumb. He felt her clench down on his cock and his finger and knew he wasn’t going to last. He didn’t even bother trying.

Sliding his hand down Claire’s torso, he slipped his fingers into her folds to gather some of the cream that was dripping from her sweet pussy. His fingers dipped inside of her, sharing the warmth with his cock as he was pressed so deep within her. He loved the feel of his hard shaft spreading her lips and filling her completely.

Pumping into her slowly, he slid his fingers through her wetness to find her clit and give it attention. Circling the engorged button, he pressed against it in a constant repetition. He felt Claire’s body tensing as it prepared to fall over the precipice into orgasm. Unable to do anything but hang on, he pulled out and slammed home, pressing against her button as his body exploded and the pleasure and feel of his release triggered hers.

Claire’s keening made him gasp as she clamped down onto his cock and pulled every bit of seed from him. He lay on top of her, breathing heavily as his shaft pulsed over and over again, filling her with his release. The amount of it was so great, he could feel it dripping from around his shaft to coat the inside of her legs. He was completely satisfied that he had marked his woman.

“I can feel how smug you are, Jake McKade,” Claire said softly as she fought to control her breathing.

Before she could say another word, Jake pulled out of her, turned her around, and lifted her into his arms to walk around the bed and deposit her on to the middle of the mattress. Climbing up onto the bed, he reached down and spread her legs, gathering up some of his seed from her inner thighs and slipping his thumbs through her swollen folds to press against her throbbing clit before plunging his cock back into her and holding himself still as he reveled in the feel of his mate’s body surrounding him.

Claire moaned as he drew a smaller orgasm from her then reached down and gripped his wrists to hold him still. He smiled down at her, knowing she was sensitive to his touch.

“Too much,” she managed to whisper. “Please, just stay still.”

He pressed against her, holding his hips tightly against her to keep his shaft embedded deeply within her. He was in no hurry to leave the warmth of her body.

When Claire reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck to slowly draw him down so that he rested his head on her chest, he was content. His woman was everything he had ever wanted in a mate.

“I love you, Jake,” she whispered.

  “Love you, angel.”

They were content to remain in each other’s arms for the moment. It didn’t matter that the entire family was waiting for them in order to begin eating dinner. The family would understand if they were a little late coming to the dining room table.

“I have a toy in our room that I want to use on you, Claire,” Jake said after a peaceful moment of just holding her.

  “Okay.”

  “Okay?”

  “Sure.”

“You don’t even know what the toy is, Claire,” he said, easing back to look down at her and gazing at the serene expression on her face as she looked up at him.

“It doesn’t matter what it is. I trust you.”

Jake smiled softly at her, humbled by her acceptance of him and her trust in him. To say that Claire was perfect for him was a statement far short of how profound the realization was. He had been gifted with the woman who would be his ideal companion, his best friend, his adventurous lover, and the mother of his children.

  “Thank you, angel.”

“You’re welcome. Now, we need to clean up and get to dinner before the entire family realizes what we’ve been up to.”

Jake laughed softly as he slowly pulled his softening shaft from her body. Before she had a chance to stand on her own volition, he reached for her, gathered her into his arms, and carried her to the connecting bathroom.

“I’m capable of walking, Jake,” Claire told him, smiling against his shoulder as he ignored her protests and did exactly what he felt was best for her. He settled her on the counter so that she sat on the edge of the sink.

“Spread your legs, angel,” he told her quietly.

He reached out and took hold of the washcloth from the counter. Turning on the water, he made sure that it was lukewarm before soaking it and squeezing out the excess water. He pressed the cloth to her delicate folds, holding it there and smiling when Claire sighed with pleasure.

“Feels good,” she mumbled, resting her head back against the mirror. “Thank you.”

Jake washed away his seed, admitting to himself that it saddened him to do so. He wanted her to always be filled with his seed. He smiled as he realized that she actually was. His baby filled her womb right now. She was carrying their child and protecting their baby within the miracle of her body. The thought of it made his softening cock harden instantly.

He couldn’t help himself. Putting aside the washcloth, he took hold of his shaft and pressed the flared head against Claire’s spread lips. He looked directly into her eyes as she looked at him in surprise before she smiled and reached down to help guide him inside of her.

“Can’t get enough of you, Claire,” he whispered as he slowly pressed deep inside of her, his breath coming in short gasps as her warmth surrounded him once again.

Claire could only smile. It looked like they were going to be late for dinner, and she couldn’t have cared less.

  Chapter 26

The entire McKade family sat in the living room, the fire from the main fireplace burning hot and filling the room with warmth and light. Deuce and Gracie were sitting in the double recliner beside the fireplace. Their daughter Gia was resting within Gracie’s arms. Claire was amazed by the miracle of the birth of that little girl. During the last snowstorm, Deuce had delivered her himself. By the time the storm had ended and the rest of the family had arrived home, Gracie and Gia were safely cuddled within their bed in the master suite of their home.

Turning to face Jake, she saw him looking at Gia and smiling. She touched his hand that he had draped around her back to hold her comfortably against his side as he stood beside her. She loved how he settled his hand on her waist and slowly rubbed the pad of his thumb beneath her sweater to touch the warmth of her lower back. When he turned his attention toward her, she saw the happiness that sparkled in his blue eyes.

“She’s adorable, isn’t she, Jake?” Claire whispered, indicating her head toward the new baby in the family.

“She sure is,” Jake agreed. He leaned closer and kissed her temple lightly, pressing his mouth against her ear and breathing softly. “Can’t wait to see you holding our baby, Claire.”

Claire smiled as she rested her hand on Jake’s thigh, massaging it lightly as she often did when she was with him. She was glad that he had improved so much. His leg rarely hurt him, and his strength and endurance had returned to nearly normal. Claire had only seen him limp a few times, and it was always as a result of a long and strenuous day of work. She worried for him because he worked so hard, often working alongside the men on job sites in order to complete construction well ahead of contract deadlines.

“My leg isn’t hurting, angel,” Jake told her quietly.

“I’m glad,” Claire answered, leaning into him and resting against his side, but never stopping in her massaging of his leg. She didn’t care if he wasn’t in pain, all she cared ab
out was providing her mate with every measure of comfort she could.

“You don’t need to rub my leg, Claire,” he reminded her, the humor evident in his voice.

  “I like touching you.”

Her last words weren’t exactly whispered. They drew the attention of everyone in the room. Claire saw the way that all of Jake’s brothers, John, Tim, and even Marc, looked at him with varying degrees of amusement.

“Jealous, men?” Jake asked, pulling Claire closer to his side.

“Not at all,” Deuce spoke for all of them. “We’re happy for you, Jake.”

Jake nodded, knowing that all of them really were happy with his newfound peace and happiness. Deuce had often warned him about keeping himself distanced from Claire. Luke’s wife Melanie had taken him aside and had warned him that he was hurting his destined mate. Jake had thought that he was doing his best to keep that from happening, but he now knew that keeping himself apart from her was what was making her hurt. He was never going to do that to her again.

“Melanie, I have something for you,” Claire said quietly as she sat beside Melanie on the couch, smiling when Jake immediately took his place by her side to sit with her.

  “For me?” Melanie asked, surprised.

Claire extended her free hand to show the small present she held that was wrapped in white tissue paper. She handed it to Melanie and smiled.

  “Payment due,” she said quietly.

Melanie took the present and handed it to Luke. “Open it for me, honey,” she told him as she hugged their daughter Mary Grace to her chest. The little girl babbled sweetly as she tugged on Melanie’s hair.

“Does this mean I get to keep it?” Luke asked as he took the gift and began to open it. When he peeled back the tissue paper and saw that it was a giant chocolate bar with almonds, he hugged it to his chest and looked at his wife very seriously. “I’m keeping it.”

Melanie laughed softly, leaning toward him and kissing his neck lightly. “We can share it, Luke,” she told him, laughing harder when he tugged her closer against his side and kissed her temple.

  “It’s a deal.”

Melanie turned to Claire and saw her smiling at the both of them. “Thanks, Claire,” she said softly.

It was obvious to her that Claire was a happy woman as she sat beside Jake. She knew that they were exactly what the other one needed. She also knew that they were going to have a happy future together.

  “Thank you, Melanie.”

“Aunt Claire,” Robbie called to her as he walked toward the couch. He pulled Cooper along with him, holding her hand tightly as he stood in front of his Aunt Claire and his Uncle Jake.

“What, honey?” Claire asked, reaching out and pulling Robbie up onto her lap. She smiled when Jake did the same with Cooper. It was so beautiful to see how Robbie never released his hold on Cooper’s hand.

“Cooper and me saw your baby,” Robbie told her, reaching up and taking hold of Claire’s long dark hair and tugging on it gently.

“Did you?” Claire asked, smiling at the little boy who looked exactly like Luke. She smiled as she thought about the baby inside of her. The fact that her and Jake’s baby would look exactly like Jake made her happy.

“Cooper says she likes brushing your baby’s hair,” Robbie said, looking at Cooper and smiling at her with encouragement. “Tell her, Cooper.”

“You brushed our baby’s hair, Cooper?” Jake asked her gently, smiling at the sweet shyness of the little girl.

“She’s very pretty,” Cooper said softly. “She has long hair like Aunt Claire.”

“That’s nice,” Jake said, looking at Claire and picturing their daughter with his mate’s hair. “Does our little girl have Claire’s beautiful eyes, Cooper?”

“They’re blue,” Cooper said, shaking her head. “Like yours, Uncle Jake.”

“That’s nice,” Claire said, mirroring Jake’s earlier comment. She looked at him and saw the tender expression on his face. “I think our daughter is going to be just as beautiful as her father is.”

“Yeah, Jake’s really beautiful,” Luke spoke up, garnering chuckles from the group.

“Luke! Stop that!” Melanie chastised him.

“It’s okay, Melanie,” Jake said softly, reaching up and touching Claire’s cheek gently. He knew that he had never felt beautiful until Claire had become a part of his life and had made him see how really wonderful his future could be.

“No. It’s not,” Melanie said firmly, glaring at her husband.

“Melanie, honey, I’m only giving him a hard time,” Luke said softly, leaning down to kiss the top of her head and nuzzle against her hair.

Melanie looked up at him, ready to tell him to apologize, when she felt the telltale sign of an impending vision. “Take your daughter, Luke,” she whispered.

Luke took Mary Grace immediately and held her securely against his chest. He knelt down in front of Melanie and waited. It was something that he had seen happen often ever since she had been a kid. He knew the signs. Her pretty hazel eyes clouded over and she was looking at him blankly.

“What do you see, darlin’?” he asked her gently.

  “Jake,” Melanie whispered.

“What about Jake?” Luke encouraged her.

  “He’s hurt.”

“I’m right here, honey,” Jake said as he stood up, holding Cooper against his chest as he moved to stand in front of his brother’s wife.

“I will take her,” Marc Blackstone said as he walked around the couch and opened his arms to take Cooper from Jake and hold her safely within his embrace. He smiled as she immediately rested her head on his shoulder and reached for his hair to hold it securely in her little hands and rub it against her cheek as she often did when she needed soothing.

“Are you all right, nidonni?” he whispered against the top of her head, smiling when she nodded and snuggled against him tighter.

Madison smiled as she watched her daughter cuddle against Marc. She loved that he was so gentle and caring with her. Marc tried to keep up the tough façade that he showed others, but Madison knew better. He was her man—her mate. He could deny his tenderness all he wanted. She was the recipient of his kindness and gentleness every day. So was Cooper. Together, they saw the proof of his true spirit. He was a loving man. He was a gentle and caring man that she wanted to be the father of her children.

Madison rested her hand against her belly, caressing it slowly and picturing the baby that she and Marc would bring into this world. She was going to love sharing that miracle with him. She just hoped he was willing to share that miracle with her.

Melanie’s attention snapped toward Madison, her eyes still clouded over as she faced her. Madison was stunned by the intensity with which Melanie looked at her and wondered if Melanie was really seeing her at all.

“He will, Madison,” Melanie said softly. “You have to help him.”

Madison’s heart hurt at Melanie’s words. She knew Marc held some deep secret close to his heart and refused to share it with her. She also knew that it caused him great pain. She wanted to help him release that pain, but she didn’t know how. Melanie’s words gave her encouragement that she could help Marc. Maybe that would help them move forward. She needed to move forward with him.

If he refused her, she would take Cooper and move forward without him. She was tired of keeping herself apart from the only man she had ever given her heart to. She loved him. She wanted him. But if he couldn’t see beyond the hurt of his past, they would never be able to have the life and the family that Madison knew was meant to be theirs.

She didn’t want to leave her job and her home, but she would. She had to. Her future with Marc was tenuous, at best. If he would not commit himself to her, she would move on without him and build the family that she was destined to have. If she had to do it alone, well, she would have to do it alone. She had done things alone for so long, she really shouldn’t expect the help of a man who held himself apart from her.

  Melanie t
urned her attention back toward Jake. She reached out and touched Jake’s forearm, her entire body snapping back against the couch cushions as she did so. Gracie was by her side immediately. She took firm hold of Melanie’s face, framing it between her hands and demanding with her actions that Melanie face her.

“Let it go, Mel,” Gracie demanded. “Let it go before it consumes you.”

Deuce stepped forward and knelt beside the couch, wrapping his arm around Gracie’s waist and holding her tightly so that her back rested firmly against his chest. Their daughter Gia gripped her mother’s hair and held on, their innocent baby somehow knowing that she needed to connect with her mother to give her strength.

  “Thank you, James,” Gracie whispered.

“Any time, honey,” Deuce whispered against her neck, kissing it lightly and laughing softly when their baby pressed against his face to get in on the action. “Gia wants to kiss you, too.”

Gracie smiled as she felt their daughter squirming against her back. James was right. Gia had an innate sense of evaluating what was going on around her. Even at only one month old, she had a need to touch and cuddle to offer her love. It was beautiful.

“Melanie, you need to let go of the vision,” Gracie told her softly once again. “Remember it, but let go of it and come back to us, honey.”

Melanie’s body sagged and crumpled as the vision released her. Her hazel eyes returned to normal as she fought to take deep, calming breaths. She sought out her mate immediately. Luke leaned forward and kissed her forehead lightly, placing their daughter Mary Grace on her chest so that their baby could cuddle into her mother’s neck. Robbie climbed up onto her lap and rested his head against Mary Grace’s back before reaching up and touching his mother’s cheek lightly.

“Did the vision hurt you, Mommy?” Robbie asked, concerned. “Sometimes they hurt me. I don’t want them to hurt you.”

“I’m not hurt, Robbie,” Melanie said softly, concerned that Robbie’s gift was something that hurt him. “How do your visions hurt you, honey?”

“Sometimes they make me feel bad, and they hurt me in my chest,” Robbie tried to explain. “When I saw Daddy fall off his horse and hurt his arm, it made me worry.”
