I try to interrupt, but he shushes me with a finger on my lips.

“Not only are you beautiful, with those sexy curves...” He runs his hand from my thigh, up over my waist until he’s cupping a breast in his big hand. I draw a sharp breath when he pinches the nipple playfully.

“You’re also the most fun play partner I’ve had in, well in forever. I love your sassy attitude, I love how independent you are and I love that you trust me enough to call me to come protect you in the middle of the night. I might just be falling a little bit in love with you.”

“Just a little bit?” I eye him with a raised eyebrow.

“It’s only been a few days, but I have a hard time imagining how I could spend any more of them without you. It would at least not be nearly as fun. What do you think?”

“Hey, you already made me yours. I cried uncle, remember?”

He rolls back over me, covering me with his huge body. “That you did. Maybe I should do a little extra claiming, though. You know, just in case.”

“Jesus, how are you hard again already? You’re a fucking machine.”

“That’s a fucking machine, Sir, to you.”

As he slides into me again, I know that it may not be forever, but right now, it feels pretty damn good. I’m a little afraid to say the L-word, but damnit, I already have the urge to. Our eyes lock, and it all feels so right. He fits in me like a key in a lock, and all I want is for him to hold me, to take me, to be mine as much as I want to be his.

  “Gabriel?”

“Mhm?” His gentle rocking feels nice, sweet even.

“Tomorrow, can we sleep at your place? My bed creaks too much.”

  “Will you make French toast?”

  “Totally.”

“Then definitely. If that’s not true love, I don’t know what is.”

I laugh, and let him claim me again.

  Epilogue

  Vivian

Guess I lost this one. Three months now, and I’ve yet to see either one of them without the other within spanking distance. I‘m happy for Gabriel, but it’s bittersweet. I don’t know why I thought it would be different this time around, not after leaving the way I did. Hindsight’s a bitch, only there to help once you’ve already fallen on your face.

Some of us have to learn the hard way.

I should stop coming to the club. Watching them work together when I’m all alone is like rubbing salt in an open wound. God, she can take it, though. I’ll give her that. She’s screaming her lungs out, and still refusing to use her safeword. It’s a good thing he knows what he’s doing.

He’s never seemed so happy. So alive. Even at our best he never had that light in his eyes. It stings, but I’m getting used to it.

Fine. I know when I’ve been beat. Time for a... well a glass of something strong. At least I still have an open tab the bar. It’s the small victories, right?

I find an empty stool and slide onto it.

Busy tonight, but Mike spots me right away. “Hey Viv, the usual?” He’s already getting a bottle of sparkling water from the cooler.

“Hey Mike. Nah, something with more bite.”

“Rough day, huh?” He pulls some scotch off the shelf.

“More like couple of months. Thanks.”

  “Don’t mention it.”

If it’d been quieter, I’m sure he’d stay to talk, but he’s got more customers to help. I’m left nursing my drink and being miserable.

A large man slides onto the stool next to me. Caleb. The biggest dom in the club, and none of it fat. No wonder he usually chooses bouncer duty. Just a glance is enough for him to chase off all the wannabe alphas that end up causing trouble.

He doesn’t say a word, just sits there next to me, nursing a glass of water. Damn him. He knows I can only keep quiet for so long. “It’s not fair.”

  “No?”

I sigh. “Fine, whatever. Life’s not fair. I got my just desserts. Happy?”

“Me? I’m alright.” He smirks, reminding me of how infuriating he can be when he wants to. “There are other fish out there, Viv. Gotta let go of Gabe.”

Thanks, Captain Obvious. Saddest pep talk ever. “Yes. Thanks, Caleb. I had no idea I’d lost, but I’m glad you’re here to set me straight.”

He gives me a look. Stern. A gaze that makes you think about what you’ve done, scolding without saying a thing. It makes me tingle in a way I haven’t felt in a long time, maybe not since Gabe. Where did that come from?

I break down almost immediately. It feels good to have someone turn that dominance my way, even if it wasn’t who I expected. “Okay, fine, I’m sorry. Just frustrated.”

He nods. “Yeah, I hear ya.” Taking a swig off his glass, he seems about to say something else, but stops.

“Thanks, Caleb. For taking a little time to sit with me. I’m not exactly a ray of sunshine these days.”

He slides off his stool. “Gotta get back to work, but listen. Don’t sell yourself short. The right guy could be closer than you think, but you’ll never see him if you don’t let Gabe go.” He locks his stormy gray eyes to mine for a moment, as if making sure I heard him, then turns and walks off.

I raise my glass and knock it back in a silent toast, feeling the burn all the way down. “Here’s to you, Gabe, and what we could’ve been. I’m moving on.” I whisper it, and try to swallow the lump in my throat. There’s a relief there, a sort of closure.

Caleb’s still in sight, his broad back to me. The crowd flows past him like water around a stone. I follow him with my eyes, admiring his shape, until he’s gone.

  Right. Other guys.

  About the Author

There’s something magical about the games of dominance and submission. The excitement of giving total control to the one you love, knowing that he will take you places you never thought you could go. The absolute trust in a man who loves you, who wants to challenge you, who wants to bring out the best in you. It’s love and total devotion in its purest sense, and that’s what I love to write about, at least when I’m not wrangling kids and taking care of my family!
