She liked the doctor. He’d taken her right in and agreed she’d do well with contacts.

“People will see your lovely eyes much better than behind your glasses.” The doctor was an older man and had a kindly smile. “I expect there’s a gentleman you’d like to notice you,” he teased.

  “Perhaps.”

“Your reading vision is good. You can wear one contact for distance. My nurse will show you how to put it in, and then give you a schedule of how to gradually increase the time you wear it.

Once the contact was in, she was surprised at how quickly her eye and brain adjusted to the change. “The contact feels comfortable and I can see fine. But I’ll take it out so I can wear it tonight.” She thanked the nurse and hurried off.

While she waited for a cab, she called Sondra. “Hi, sis. I got the contact. I only have to wear one for distance.” She waved at a taxi and got in giving him the address. “Sorry to interrupt our conversation. I’m going to be in a rush when I get to your place. I won’t have time to cook dinner. Do you want me to bring pizza or sandwiches home with me?”

  “Where are you going?

  “I have a dinner date.”

“Don’t worry about us. Mom’s cooking.”

“Then I’ll see you soon.” Susie clicked off before Sondra began asking questions. Her heart raced when she thought about having Clay’s undivided attention. The cab stopped at the curb in front of Sondra’s apartment building. She paid the cabbie and rushed to the elevator. She had thirty-five minutes to get ready.

As she suspected, Sondra came to the door when she heard Susie enter. “I don’t have time to talk.” She flew by her sister and went to her bedroom.

“We can talk while you get ready.”

  “I’m going to shower.”

“I won’t look.” Sondra gazed at her speculatively. “Why don’t you want to talk about your date, unless it’s with Clay?”

“It is,” Susie said and sank down on the bed.

“I knew it. Are you starting to care for him?”

Susie nodded yes. “My body responds when he walks close.” She told Sondra about the morning and her old boyfriend, Andrew. “Clay took charge and got rid of him.”

  “Then what happened?”

“He held me close.” Her shoulders slumped. “I wanted him with all my being. He put the distance between us.”

“Strange. I’ve never known him to hesitate when he wanted something or some woman. And yet he pulled back from you. Of course it was at the office.

“Did you sense he was as affected by being close to you as you were to him?”

“I thought so.” She didn’t tell Sondra what he’d said about making love to her. “He’s being nice because the whole incident upset me. We’ll probably talk about his business.”

“More likely monkey business than anything else. If I’d thought he’d go after you, I’d have found someone else fill in for me.”

“Sis, I’m a big girl. I can make my own decisions.”

“I’ll remind you of this conversation when you’re crying on my shoulder.”

“I promise not to cry. At least not on your shoulder,” she mumbled.

“Hmmm. Well, if I can’t change your mind then have fun.” Her sister walked to the bedroom door. “I hope you’re on birth control.”

“Sondra, you aren’t my mother.” Susie frowned.

Her sister grinned. “I keep forgetting.”

After she left, Susie took a quick shower and got out. Sondra might tell Mom about her date with Clay. Mom had heard stories about him when Sondra came home on visits. The same ones Susie heard.

Hell, I don’t care if she does. I’m a grown woman and my own boss. I’m not a virgin either. But my few other experiences left me feeling sex was totally overrated. Still, the way my body reacts to Clay, I might be wrong.

Apprehension inundated Clay as soon as he put the phone down. They’d return here after dinner and end up in bed. Which he wanted. He thought he wanted it. But she had marriage and family written all over her, and he wasn’t thinking in that direction.

He liked casual dates. They’d go out to dinner or to a play. Then he’d see them home. He’d been very choosey about the women he chose to see on a more regular basis, and they always knew he wasn’t the marrying kind. He’d been engaged once, until he realized how different they were and called it off.

Clay paced the floor, conflicted between the desire she’d aroused in him this morning, and the uncertainty about the course he was taking. He shook his head. He’d never done this much thinking about a date before Suzette.

He put his hand on the phone to call and cancel. No, it’d be rude to call off their date. And I don’t want to.

At seven, he rang the doorbell. Sondra answered. She wasn’t smiling and her brow had creased with worry.

“What are you up to, Clay?”

“I’m taking your sister to dinner. Is that against the law?”

“Aren’t you afraid she’ll dump the plate on your lap?” A slight smile turned the corner of her mouth up.

“I thought about the risk to my body before I called. But I decided I was willing to take the chance.”

“Don’t hurt her. She’s not sophisticated like your usual women.”

“I know.” He looked down the hall behind Sondra and his mouth fell open. Sondra turned to see what had brought the stunned expression on his face.

Susie wore a dark-purple outfit she’d had for several years. It had a lace top and a tight, short skirt. Her black hair hung loose and wavy around her shoulders, and she didn’t wear her glasses.

“I bought that dress for her, but I’ve never seen her wear it,” Sondra said under her breath. Clay stepped around her and walked the short distance to Suzette. “You look beautiful.”

“Thank you.” Her face flushed pink.

How long has it been since I saw a woman blush other than my sister? When Suzette smiled at him from under her long, black eyelashes and he looked into her violet eyes, a warning sounded in his head. He ignored it.

  “Shall we go?”

“I’m ready. Good night, Sondra. Tell Mom and Mark good-bye for me.”

Sondra opened the door. “Have fun, but not too much,” she said as they walked out.

Clay helped Susie into his low-slung sports car and enjoyed the length of leg showing when she got in. He went around to his side.

“The restaurant we’re going to isn’t far. To me it has the best seafood in town.” He glanced her way. “But they have other good selections if you don’t want seafood.”

“I like most all kinds of seafood. This is a nice car, but I feel like I’m sitting almost on the road.”

Clay laughed. “Only you would make such comments. Most people admire the leather seats, the smooth ride, the speed it can go on the open road.”

“By most people, you mean your other dates.”

  He didn’t comment, only chuckled.

“At least you find me amusing. I’m bringing more laughter into your life.”

She stared out the window, and Clay glanced at her several times. In her sexy dress, with her hair down and looking so soft, he wanted more than ever to take her home with him and make love. His fear was he might not recover from the experience.

The maître d’ led them to a secluded corner. She’d noticed Clay nodded to several men as he passed their tables. All the men wore suits and the ladies were dressed in stunning outfits. She glanced down at her top and skirt when she sat.

“If you’re wondering whether you are dressed fancy enough for this place, don’t worry. Every man in here has had his eye on you since we walked in.”

  “That’s not true.”

“It is. Since you didn’t notice, I’m sorry I told you. Now you’ll be comparing me to them.”

“Is that what other women do?”

“Some of them. But they’re not only checking out the men’s physical appearan
ce, but accessing who has the most bucks.”

Susie was aware of the faint sound of sarcasm in his voice. “Then why date them?”

Clay shrugged. “At first it was fun to have the most beautiful date on my arm, before I had the most money. I’m competitive. When a man who was richer and more well-known eyed my date, it pleased me. I guess that doesn’t speak well of me.”

“I think men are much more competitive than women in certain areas, but women are as bad as men about wanting to show off their date. I saw a lot of that in high school when the cheerleaders paraded around with the best football players. I asked one of them if she planned to continue dating her boyfriend after graduation.” Susie looked across at Clay. “She looked at me as if I was stupid and said of course not. She had her eye on bigger fish, but he was the most important one she could find at that time.”

The waiter came to their table and filled their glasses with water. He discussed the Chef’s specials for the night. Susie ordered the lobster and Clay the lobster and steak. Then he ordered a bottle of white wine.

When the waiter left, Clay said, “It’s a very good, crisp, and fruity wine. I think you’ll like it. While we wait, tell me about you,” he said. “I’m sure your sister has told you more than I’d like for you to know regarding me.”

“I’ve lived on a ranch all my life except when I went to college. I like the life, the quiet mornings with the sun coming up over the mountains and at dusk when the birds are chirping and settling for the night.”

She had no idea how sensuous her voice sounded or how captivating he found her eyes. Her expressions and words mesmerized him.

Once his wine glass had been filled, he sipped the cool wine and studied the woman in front of him. When she smiled, his body heat rose. And the time she brushed his hand reaching for a roll and butter, his cock ached to be inside her sweet body.

The meal was as good as ever. But he had no idea what he ate. All his thoughts were about how he wanted to get Suzette alone and taste her delectable skin.

“You’re quiet. I’ve been doing all the talking,” Susie said. “I tend to do that when I’m nervous.”

“Do I still make you anxious?”

“Yes, but in a different way.”

He loved her honesty and knew exactly what she meant. He wasn’t the only one tied in knots.

“Do you want dessert here, or we can have it at my place? The lady who cooks and cleans for me made me a chocolate cake. She knows I love anything chocolate. There’s half left.”

  “I love chocolate, too.”

Clay motioned to the waiter and paid the bill. Then with his hand on her lower back, he escorted Suzette to his car.

When he parked at his condo and opened her door, she took his hand to get out. “I think you went over the speed limit getting here.” Her husky voice sent desire circling in his blood.

  “I never noticed.”

“Liar.” A faint light twinkled deep in her eyes.

She looked around his foyer when she stepped out of the elevator. It was done in cream and dark blues with several paintings on the wall.

“This was your own private elevator?” she asked.

“Yes. I have a button in my pocket that I pushed to open it.”

“I like the foyer. Your decorator did a great job.”

“My sister, Grace, is talented both in decorating homes and designing clothes.”

“She’s doing your house in Frontier City.”

“Yes.” Clay ushered her into the living room. Moonlight shone across the floor from the double doors to his balcony. He reached for the light switch and Suzette stopped his hand. “Leave it off. This is perfect.” Her face had tipped upward and Clay’s resistance flowed out of him.

He cupped her face in his hands and softly kissed her. “Are you sure you want to do this? I can’t promise you what will happen. I’m older than you and settled in my ways.”

“How old do you think I am?” Her sweet breath brushed across his face.

  “I’m thirty-seven, and I’d guess you’re twenty-five or -six.”

Amusement flickered in her eyes. “I’m twenty-nine. Eight years is not a large difference. My dad is ten years older than my mom.”

He pulled her tight against his hungry body and kissed her mouth. His tongue tangled with hers as his hand moved up and down her spine. Then he picked her up and carried her down a hallway. He kicked the door further open and sat her on the side of his bed.

Clay knelt in front of her. “If you want to change your mind, do it now.” He held his breath as she studied his face.

Then her fingers trailed across his forehead and down the side to his throat. She started undoing his tie.

“I’d made my mind up in the shower before you arrived. I want you to make love to me.”

“Even after what I said in the other room?”

She nodded yes. “Has anyone told you, you talk too much?”

“Never.” He pulled her up beside the bed and as he took off her top and skirt he kissed each spot he uncovered. Her body trembled in his arms. “Are you cold?”

  “No, I’m on fire.”

  Chapter Seven

Her heart flip-flopped when he smiled at her. “You have incredibly soft skin.” He stood back and studied her in her purple bra and panties.

Susie wanted to place her hands in front of her and hide from his intent scrutiny. She started to move her arms, and he held them back.

“I want to look at you and savor the moment.” His warm smile echoed in his voice.

She pulled her arms free. “It’s my turn to undress you. There goes your tie.” She threw it to the side and began to unbutton his shirt. Her lips caressed the base of his throat. His heart pounded against her mouth. It was good to know she excited him, too. Then she rubbed her fingers across his nipples and heard his sharp intake of breath. His responses gave her the nerve to be more daring. She pulled his shirt out of his slacks and let it drop off his arms to the floor.

Then she knelt and unfastened his belt and the button to his pants. Susie’s body trembled as she kissed his abdomen and pushed his shorts and pants down. His large cock sprang out and she grasped him in her hands.

“Ah, baby, that feels so good.” Clay slipped his shoes off and kicked his pants aside. Then his fingers slid into her hair.

Susie cupped his sac in her hand and licked the top of his cock. His groan spurred her on. She kissed along the underside of his dick and moved his balls gently. Then she took him in her mouth and licked around his hard cock.

His fingers gripped her hair tighter. Encouraged, Susie moved her mouth back and forth along his length faster and faster. Her pussy clenched with desire as she licked and tasted his essence from the crown of his penis.

  “Suzette, stop.”

She glanced up. “Did I do something wrong?”

“No, darlin’. You’re doing it exactly right. But at this rate I won’t last much longer. I want to be inside your sweet pussy before it’s all over.” He pulled her up along his muscled body and kissed her. “Get in bed I’ll be right with you.” He opened a drawer in his bedside table, and she saw him grab a condom.

When he lay beside her, she trailed her fingers across his face. “I have on more clothes than you.”

“I’ll remedy that in a moment.” He nibbled on her jaw, along her neck and shoulders, and then down to the edge of her lacey bra.

“I’d suggest you wear nothing but purple.”

Susie laughed. “People would start calling me the purple lady.”

“I’d call you sexy.” His voice, though husky, came through crystal clear.

She wanted to believe him. His touch had her off balance. Yet in the back of her mind all the warnings about not taking him seriously echoed.

Cool air on her breast brought her instantly to the present, and when his warm mouth covered her nipple, she shook with the intensity of pleasure shooting to every cell in her body.

She arched her chest closer to his mouth. He kissed, licked, and sucked from one peak to the other.

Her pussy clenched tight and fluid gushed out, wetting her lower lips. A passionate hunger swirled in her veins and all her awareness centered on Clay. When he glanced at her face, a faint light flashed deep in his blue eyes. He removed her bra, and then laid her back on the pillow. He proceeded downward and kissed her midriff.

An onslaught of unfamiliar feelings swamped her and heat flashed from her core outward. The depth of her desire for this man frightened her.

Clay moved further down and pulled her panties off. His gaze slowly roamed across her body. She felt the heat in her face.

“Don’t be embarrassed, sweetheart. You are one delicious lady.” His hands began to caress her from her feet up. When he got to her lower lips, he spread her legs, and his fingers separated her folds. “You’re pretty and pink.” He kissed her clit and licked the juice from her vulva until he got to her pussy opening.

“Your musky scent sends my arousal shooting like sparks through my body.” His tongue flicked into the opening. She moaned. Desire shot up her spine.

Clay rubbed the top of his cock along her lower lips to her clit and back. Susie’s head thrashed back and forth.

  “Do you want me, darlin’?”

  “Yes.” She shouted the word.

  * * * *

Clay positioned his cock at her opening and thrust into her warmth. Her pussy lips clamped tight around him. He held still and enjoyed her hot, wet pussy surrounding his dick. Gradually, he began to move slowly in and out.

He watched her expressive eyes. Her desire and hunger for him were written on her face as she gave him a sweet, melting smile. His heartbeat pounded in his ears, and his breath came in gasps as she wrapped her legs around his middle and met his every stroke.

A stormy wind whirled inside him, and he struggled for breath. He held her hips tighter and he plunged in and out, grasping for something just out of his reach.
