It would be rude of me to turn away her hospitality. I sipped at the ice cold beverage which quenched my thirst nicely.

“Who are you two?” I asked.

“We’re workin’ this here farm,” he replied, “I’m Hanks, and this is my wife, Greta.” He pulled her in and kissed her head as she swooned. He offered out his hand which I ignored, rudely. My mind wasn’t on handshakes at the moment.

Isaiah must have moved on and left the responsibility to these two. He must have been long gone by now. I pulled out my phone and dialed his number. It rang three times before going to voicemail. He was avoiding me.

How could I have been so stupid? Why did I believe Phillip?

“What happened to the guy that was here, Isaiah?” I asked.

“Oh, is that the guy you’re looking for? He mentioned something about a river,” Hank said, tugging his hat off his head, “We only just started this morning. I saw this fence finished and needed a coat of paint so I figured I’d get started.”

“The river?” I said. Hope swelled inside of me. I tossed my bag to the ground and bolted past the tree. There was still a chance.

“Nice to meet you?” I heard Hank say, confused, “What a strange man.”

  Chapter 30

  Isaiah

I sat barefoot in the field beside the giant tree with its tire swing blowing gently in the breeze. Getting the help from Hank and Greta would make things much easier. They were good people, and they needed work. Neither of them seemed to care about any of the rumors about a ‘queer’ living in that house.

As I watched the river flow past, I got curious. Bart told that story about carving his name into a tree. Joshua said it was all a tall tale but I couldn’t help myself. I had to be sure of that for myself. I paced around the tree, searching in the bark for any traces of initials but didn’t find any. It really must have been a tall tale.

The water looked inviting. The days would only get colder. I should have stayed longer last time. I still remembered seeing his erection poking out through his boxers and letting him go. He was so embarrassed that I’d pinned him so easily. I wondered if he still felt that way, but I didn’t think I would find out anytime soon.

“Isaiah!” I heard a voice shout, carried by the wind. I searched for the source, turning toward the field; my heart just about burst when I saw Joshua standing across the field from me. He seemed like a mirage; a memory of a better time confusing my senses.

“Isaiah!” he shouted again. I rubbed at my eyes. This was no mirage.

“Joshua,” I said, before yelling louder, “Joshua!” My walked quickly turned into a sprint. I couldn’t wait to hold him again. He in turn ran towards me. The seconds stretched into hours as we rushed to meet. He leapt at me and I caught him in my arms.

I kissed him as I never had before. I let my love speak for itself. I didn’t know how long had passed before I released him from my grasp.

“I’m sorry!” I said, “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean what I said. I just wanted to get you somewhere safe.”

“I missed you so much,” he said, talking over me, “I couldn’t stand missing out on another day with you. Phillip told me what happened.”

  “Phillip?” I asked.

“Yeah,” he said, “we figured some shit out. He told me what happened. I should have known.”

I didn’t care to talk anymore. My hands were already trying to rip off his shirt as he was trying to do the same to mine.

“I’ll never do something like that again,” I said between kisses, “Never leave again.”

“I promise,” he said. I kissed the length of his neck as my hand cupped his ass. He moaned with the tiniest of touch. It had been far too long since I’d had him in my arms and I couldn’t separate myself from him. Never again.

He pushed me to the ground with a coy smile, pinning me to the ground.

“Looks like I win this time,” he said. I laughed and grabbed his arm to wrestle myself on top of him. I pushed off my jeans as I did so, he did the same. I kissed the length of his body, down his chest, then down his abs, until I was face to face with his erect member waiting for me.

I stood on hands and knees just above him as I lowered my head down to accept his throbbing cock. He mirrored me as he pulled my beast into his mouth. I twitched at the sudden surge of sensation that shot through my hips.

I tasted the salty precum on his tip as I wrapped my tongue around to toy with his sensitive head. He gasped as he continued to suck my dick. I was back in heaven with the man that I loved. I wondered what anyone passing by would have thought to see two men pleasuring each other in the middle of the field, but I didn’t care at all. I only wanted to be closer to my beloved.

My hand wrapped around the base of his member, stroking in tandem with my mouth. I could already feel my balls beginning to swell, ready to explode, but I wanted to wait. I cursed his amazing mouth that rode the length of my shaft. In such a short time he’d become a real pro. Nobody else I’d ever been with knew just the right way to please me.

He bucked his hips, forcing himself further down my throat. That must have been too much for him to take as I felt his cock swell inside my mouth. His load forced its way down my mouth as I gave in to the pleasure he was giving me. I released myself into him.

I spun on my knee and fell beside him in the field. I still wanted more. I had a lifetime of pent up emotion that had finally worked its way out of me.

“I think we should go swimming,” I said.

I pulled Joshua to his feet and hand-in-hand we strode over to the river. I stepped a foot in but was met by the shock of cold water chilling me to the bone.

“It’s better to just jump in,” he said. He ran and dove for the tire swing which he caught as before and swung into the water. It looked fun, so I decided to try it again. I leapt out and grabbed hold of the tire swing, this time choosing to not hold on. I spilled into the water, naked, beside him.

I started to splash about, searching for my footing, but he caught me this time and held me close. My body quickly got used to the change in temperature, and his warm grasp was already making my dick swell to meet him again.

He spun in place and I felt his soft ass meet my thighs. I lowered a hand in the water and began to play with his tight hole. The water relaxed him and my finger easily slipped in, eliciting a gasp from him. I wanted him more than anything in the world.

I pulled him in close to me; our body heat mixing together to melt the cold that surrounded us. I lowered myself in the water to line up my heaving cock to his ready hole. With a light press I was inside of him. He exhaled sharply as I entered.

  “I’m okay,” he said.

I started to give him the rest of what I could. His tight little ass begged for more no matter how much I gave him. My hips pressed against his round butt and I grabbed at it with my free hand before reaching around his waist and taking hold of his dick that bobbed in the water.

It felt like the first time we were together all over again. The tiny bed was replaced by a river and all those pent up emotions that we’d both been carrying were finally free. We could just be ourselves and let everything happen.

I started to thrust harder with each pass as my hand jerked at his dick. He threw an arm behind him to hold behind my neck. I exhaled harder with each thrust. Soon everything fell away. The river was no longer around us. We were two bodies swimming in each other’s love. I pushed harder and harder. He moaned as I continued to pound him.

I had never felt this way before. I’d made love with men in the past but this was different. This was ecstasy. I had never felt what real love was. I could see us sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs as old grey men, content to just enjoy each other’s company. I could see everything that I thought was important become irrelevant as I continued to work his asshole.

“I love you,” I whispered into his ear. His body clenched as he inhaled sharply. I felt his cock buck and release into the flowing river. He spun his neck and
kissed any part of me that he could.

“I love you, too,” he said. I my body swelled with excitement with those words as I exploded inside of him. I gasped with the power of my orgasm. My body was numb and I became faint as all my energy was drained in the moment.

He held me close as we kissed, and we started for the shore. I collapsed into a bundle of nerves as mud caked over my body. Joshua relaxed on top of me and we rested on the shore. I played with his long hair as I stared into the blue sky.

After a moment he fell asleep on top of me. I was ready to join him, but something caught my eye. I narrowed my gaze against the light of the blue sky and looked closely just above the limb of the tree which held the tire swing aloft. Roughly carved into the tree was a pair of initials; BB+ML.

Bartholomew Burns and Mathilda Lawrence. It wasn’t a tall tale after all. I started laughing, almost waking Joshua from his rest. In that moment I knew exactly what I needed to do. I lifted Joshua’s arm and maneuvered away from him, fetching my pocket knife from my jeans.

The tree was easy enough to climb, and solid as a rock. I felt the spot where his father wrote his name so many years ago, the scrawling was warped with time, but still clear to read. Just below his initials I carved ours; IM+JB.

“What are you doing?” Joshua asked, waking up.

“Come up and look,” I said. He pulled up to his feet and joined me on the branch which held our combined weight with ease. I pressed his hand against the initials from before.

“I never thought it was real,” he said. Then I showed him our memory on the tree, one that would last as long as this tree continued to grow. I pulled Joshua close beside me and kissed his forehead.

Now and forever, he would always be mine.

  Chapter 1

  Ben

  “Okay, everybody ready?”

“We’ve been ready for the last thirty minutes! You’re the one who’s been running around like a headless chicken. Would you just relax for once? The world isn’t going to end just because everything isn’t perfect, you know that, right?”

I shot my sister a dirty glare. We were only eleven months apart. Irish twins. But, honestly, Emily and I couldn’t be more different. She didn’t have a care in the world. Never did. Never had to. Everything always seemed to get handed to her on a silver platter. Meanwhile, I felt like I was constantly fighting an uphill battle with my dreams.

“Yo, Earth to Ben. Are we going to play tonight or should I do a second coat of nail polish?”

“You might want to.” Andy chimed in. “It looks like Ben is rewriting the whole song.”

“I’m just making a few… adjustments.” I said, pressing my lips together. “You guys suck, you know that?”

“You love us.” Emily winked with a devious smirk on her face. In a flash, she jumped out of her seat and ran over to me. Before I could stop her, she tore the sheet music off my stand and crumpled it into a ball, shooting it into a nearby trashcan.

“Em! What the hell is wrong with you?” I rushed over to the trashcan. “Yuck! Who threw their leftover Chinese in here? You could’ve at least kept it in the container…” I grumbled, reaching for the muck, about to retrieve the song I had worked so hard to perfect. Why did I ever start a band with a couple of jerks?

“Don’t tell me you’re actually going to touch that thing.” A soft voice sounded in my ear. It was musical and calming, causing me to stop, my fingertips hovering just over the wadded piece of paper. “C’mon, baby, we have practiced this song enough times to know it by heart.” Andy wrapped his strong arms around my waist, pulling me back until our bodies were locked together.

My breath got caught in my throat as it always did whenever I was with him. His fresh, minty scent wafted up to my nose, making me feel lightheaded and giddy. Butterflies swarmed inside my stomach and I had the urge to turn around and kiss my boyfriend when Emily cleared her throat.

“I love you two, but please, unless you want me to barf, don’t start making out in front of me.”

“Oh really?” I teased. Without hesitation, I cupped Andy’s cheeks and kissed him hard. I slipped my tongue into his mouth, making a show of it, just to piss off my sister.

I could hear her fake dry-heaving in the corner.

Suddenly, Andy pushed me up against the cold, concrete wall.

“Alright! I’m out of here!” She yelled, throwing her hands up in defeat. “I’m going to be alone on the couch with a tub of ice cream. Come find me when you two are done sucking face.”

I watched her leave out of the corner of my eye, grinning into the kiss like a madman. There was nothing like tormenting your baby sister.

Andy, however, didn’t even seem to notice her leaving. Instead, he was wholly focused on the kiss, his tongue tangling with mine. His fingers ran through my thick, shaggy hair, pulling on it ever so slightly as he moved even closer, our hips locking together.

All thoughts of my sister vanished as I was possessed by a deep, yearning lust. I moaned into my boyfriend’s lips, savoring his sweet, sweet taste. Desperate for more, I wrapped my arms around his neck, threatening to never let him go. He responded by digging his fingers into my waist and hiking me up the wall.

I cried out at his roughness. While I liked Andy a lot, sometimes, his animalistic nature was just a little too much for me. There were times I wished he would just slow down and take his time with me.

His lips pressed into mine even harder, to the point where I thought they would bruise. I could barely breathe, my head getting fuzzy from the lack of air. I dropped my arms to his chest, trying to push him away, but he held me tight – a little too tight.

Finally, I managed to pull away, slipping from his grasp and back onto my feet. “God, why do you always have to do that?”

“Do what?” He asked innocently, running his fingers through his dark brown hair. “Don’t act like you don’t love it. I can tell your body is begging for more.” He smirked, showing off a set of pearly white teeth.

“That,” I said, growling in frustration. “Why do you always have to make things so… feral? We aren’t a couple of bunnies fucking in the woods, you know. You could stop and make… love for once.”

Andy chuckled. “I do make love to you, baby.” He pressed himself against me once more, running his fingertips along my cheek, caressing it ever so gently. “Don’t I?”

I peered into his eyes, trying to read them, but they were so dark and impenetrable that all I felt was a shiver running through my spine. I don’t know what it was, but there was just something about his touch that felt so… fake.

  I hated it.

He sighed. “Fine. If you’re going to be like that, we might as well call Emily back in here.”

I didn’t bother to answer him as I grabbed my guitar, plugging it into the amp.

“That was quick. I half-expected you two to have a full-on make-out session or something. I was already planning to watch an episode of I Love Lucy…” Emily trailed off. “Oh… trouble in paradise huh? What did you two bicker about this time?” She asked, her hand on her hip like she was the mother of a couple of toddlers who didn’t know how to share. “Honestly, how are we supposed to run a band if you two are either making out or ignoring each other?”

“Let’s just try out our newest song,” I grumbled. “You know, it
would’ve been lovely if I had some sheet music, but I guess I’ll just have to make do.”

“Sheesh. Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, didn’t he?” She asked, wagging a drum stick at me.

I ignored her remark and started to strum my guitar for a few beats before nodding. “Okay… and a 1… 2… 3…!” At my signal, Emily started to play the drums, providing the base tempo for our song. Once my cue came in, I played my part, getting lost in the music, my fingers tight around the pick as it danced along the strings.

Ever since I was a little boy, the guitar used to fascinate me. My father had an old acoustic that he played in high school when he was in a garage band of his own. He said I would inherit it when the time was right, but until then, it was locked in a glass display case in his office.

One day, I would play that baby and make the whole world jealous.

  “I hear there’s a secret apple

That only Alice knows about, lost somewhere in Wonderland.

Will it be worth the risk?

Will the taste of poison be worth all the glitter and gold?

  Just one more day.

  Well, it goes like this!

  The fourth, the fifth.

The mirror falls and the mirror crumbles

  All for you.”
