“Thanks for the food. I needed that, but now I am beat.” I giggled once the truck pulled off.

“Same. You feel like keeping me company tonight, or are you that damn tired?” Frisk glanced my way.

“I can keep you company, but you won’t be getting any pussy tonight. So if that’s why you’re asking, you might as well have your guy up front drop me off at home.”

“Aight, you need to relax.” Frisk laughed. “I asked you one damn question and you going off. That’s the problem with females; y’all always making something out of nothing.”

“Oh please. Yet, when women come over to a man’s house, y’all get mad if they don’t want to give it up.”

  “That’s a lie.”

“Nigga, please. ‘No Bullshit’ by Chris Brown, that’s y’all nigga’s anthems!” I shot back, causing him to begin chortling while clapping his hands.

“Aight, you got me there. But we made shit clear that there won’t be no fucking tonight, so we good.”

  “Yep.”

We got to Frisk’s place, and once inside, we went up to his bedroom, since it was already late and we were both tired. I was hoping that he didn’t think I was gonna change my mind and bust it open, because that shit wasn’t happening. No way was he about to just pop up saying he missed me and then get to fuck. It’d take a little bit more than that to convince me he was worthy of this again.

He gave me a t-shirt to change into, and after he undressed down to his boxers, we climbed into his bed. I exhaled heavily at the soft feel of his sheets and the firm yet fluffiness of his pillows.

“I guess I should apologize for the whole Trey thing. I was looking at it in a selfish way. And then I felt like you were trying to control me.”

The crazy thing about all of this was that I had absolutely no interest in Trey. And to think I’d actually let go of a relationship that I was happy in for his ass. That’s the type of shit you do, I guess, when you have too much pride. I was so focused on showing Frisk that he had no control over me, that I let what we had go, over a nigga I barely even wanted to converse with.

From being with Vigo, who was always so controlling, to running around in secret with Wonder, I just became anxious to have some sort of freedom. But I expressed that feeling in the wrong way, and now I was regretting it.

“Wasn’t trying to control you at all. I just didn’t want you going out with another nigga, especially behind my back. Maybe if you had have told me the shit, I would have been a little bit better about accepting it.”

“Have you met anyone since we’ve been broken up?” I quizzed. I had to know because I’d been thinking about it.

“Not met anyone, no. I did have a little fun with an old friend, I ain’t gon’ lie to you.”

  I rolled my eyes.

  “I hope not with Charmaine.”

He sucked his teeth, making me snicker.

“Fuck Charmaine. I ain’t tell you she egged my shit. That’s why I had to have you schedule a rental that day.”

“Better get her in check or you won’t have any new girlfriends.”

“Oh, I’m gon’ get her dumb ass in check.”

“I mean the dick is good, but it ain’t all that good like she’s acting.”

“You want me to remind you of how good it is?” He bit his lip, eyes roaming me and filled with lust.

“No, fool. I told you there won’t be any of that.”

He turned on his side to face me and said, “Just checking, shit. I ain’t gon’ never turn down the opportunity to fuck you.” It got quiet before he added, “You ain’t meet nobody, did you?”

“No, I’ve been too busy working.”

“Good, ‘cause I wanna try this shit again.” He pulled me closer to him in the warm bed, and for a couple seconds, I had to talk my legs out of spreading for this nigga. “I know we ain’t gon’ be right back together, but we can work on it, can’t we?”

“Make sure your hoes are under control first, and then we’ll see.” I quickly turned my back to him because if I kept looking his way, I was gonna get even hornier than I already was.

“Aight,” he responded, hugging my body tightly from behind.

Just as I got comfortable in his arms, his phone started ringing. My eyes shot open to look at the time on the alarm box he had on my side, and I saw it was 3 a.m.

I listened closely as he sucked his teeth and rolled over partially to check his phone, before placing it back down loudly.

“Who was that?” I inquired, knowing the only person that could be calling this late had to be of the female specie.

  “Some old shit.”

“Yeah, whatever, nigga,” I shot back as he hugged me from behind while laughing.

If Frisk wanted to start over, he’d have to come at me with a completely clean plate and no baggage.

  Just a few days later…

Tonight, Draylah, Bia, Kattlyn, and I were out just to have a little fun. We hadn’t been to the club together in a minute, so this was much needed for the four of us. We’d all been busy working or going to school, making it hard to find time for doing stuff like this.

“No Limit” by G-Eazy spilled from the speakers inside of the large, dark club, semi lit up with white and blue shooting lights. It was a Friday night, and clearly everyone wanted to come out tonight to party because the place was packed. None of us were completely unknown, especially Draylah and Kattlyn, who were basically celebrities themselves, so we were able to get a table. Even Bia had a little unwanted notoriety, so paying for shit wasn’t even an option. I wasn’t complaining at all either.

“Can we come in here with y’all!” some dude yelled, holding up his one drink that I’d seen him nursing for the past hour.

He was cute as hell, but I could tell he used his looks to fuck women over. Probably had ruined so many credit scores and passed out so many STD’s that it was ridiculous. Not to mention, he was obviously a broke ass nigga.

“No thank you!” Bia replied for us all.

“Aww, come on, baby! I just wanna get to know y’all better.” He looked around behind himself, and that’s when I saw another guy appear. “Me and my homie right here.”

“You eat pussy?” Draylah quizzed, causing Bia, Kattlyn’s, and my jaw to drop before we began laughing.

Smiling widely, the cutie replied, “I mean, shit, if you gon’ let me… Draylah.”

“Oh no, I just wanted to know. You look like you eat pussy for stacks.”

“Ohhh damn!” his homeboy belted, before putting his fist to his mouth. I swear Ricky had rubbed off on Draylah.

The cute guy was no longer smiling, and because he was embarrassed, he turned to walk off with his homie right behind him.

“Draylah, Ricky is gon’ kill you.” Kattlyn chuckled along with Bia and me.

“Look what he just texted me!” Draylah grinned, before showing us the conversation on her iPhone.

Daddy: Don’t ever take that fucking long to reply, Draylah. I’m gon’ shoot up that fucking club if I find out a nigga is in ya face.

The four of us roared with laughter after reading, before I asked, “How long did you take to text back?”

“Girl, he texted me at 11:45 p.m. and I replied at 11:47 p.m.” Draylah glided the texts over to show us the timestamps.

“Just two damn minutes.” Bia shook her head before the four of us giggled. “He’s so jealous, but it’s cute.”

“How about he really will shoot the club up, though,” Kattlyn commented.

“At least Ricky gives some sort of warning, MG just pops up,” I said, before we chuckled together, with Kattlyn nodding.

“I was so embarrassed when he showed up to Barnes and Noble,” Kattlyn added as we chortled heavily, remembering the story she told us. “Acting like he was my damn daddy.”

For the rest of the night, we had a blast, dancing, eating the club food, drinking a little bit, and taking a bunch of photos and videos. An hour before the club was gonna clo
se, we decided to head out so we wouldn’t get lost in the crowd. Ricky and MG’s bodyguards were by the back entrance, and escorted us all out to the parking lot.

“V! Virginia!” I heard a male voice shout my name, just before I was about to climb into the back of the all-black Escalade with my friends. Turning to look over my shoulder, I saw Wonder walking up to me dressed like he was going to a church service.

“What the hell are you doing?” I gritted, eyes darting around the parking lot to see that it was starting to fill up with people.

“Baby, I’ve been trying to deal with us not being together, but I can’t anymore.” He panted from running over to me.

“Savian, what are you—” My sentence got cut off when he dropped down to one knee after pulling a small box from his pocket. “Savian, get up right no—”

“Virginia Carter, I’m begging you to please marry me. I—”

“You are already married!” I shouted, just as a boisterous flash blinded me damn near. I then realized more people were outside, watching and filming this debacle. And to add insult to injury, the paparazzi were here, just snapping away.

“I know, but I’m done with that. I want you to be my wife.”

“Savian, go home.” I stared into his eyes deeply. “I am not going to marry you whether you have a wife or not.”

  “Virginia—” He rose up.

Getting closer into his face, ignoring the commotion going on around us, I spat angrily, “And I hope you know that you’ve just ruined your career, and possibly mine too.”

My words must have resonated with his stupid ass, because he didn’t make a peep as I turned on my heels and allowed Clay to help me into the back seat. Once inside the car, I saw Draylah, Bia, and Kattlyn staring at me with their eyes slightly wider than usual and their mouths agape.

The response to what Wonder had just done would probably ruin everything I’d worked for, but I couldn’t put all the blame on him because I never should have entertained his ass from the get-go.

  Draylah

A couple weeks ago, this makeup company named Bleu Cosmetics emailed me about joining forces to release some brow kits and eyelashes. At first, I was gonna turn it down because I wanted to do my own thing, but I thought it’d be a great way for me to start out, mainly because they were already a pretty huge brand, and in stores like Sephora, ULTA, and even Harvey Nichols in the UK.

For the past few weeks, we’d been emailing back and forth, and we’d met recently for me to explain my vision of what I wanted things to be like. I let them know from the beginning that I needed to be heavily involved, and that I wasn’t just gonna slap my name on any damn thing just to make them and myself some money.

“So what do you think?” the woman that I was working with named Grace asked. She’d called me down so she and her team could show me what the packaging of everything would look like.

“I love it,” I squealed damn near, causing them to chuckle lowly.

Everything was a sparkly gold, white, and light pink, just like my brow bar, and it had my name written in the same font as all of my things inside of my shop.

“We’re glad you like everything. So in about two weeks, we should have some things for you to test out and let us know if you like them. We took down notes of what you said you didn’t want in your products and why, so we’re really excited for you to try everything.”

“Me too,” I replied, rubbing my fingers over the demo packages for the lashes and brow kits. “And we already agreed that the pricing would be normal. I don’t want this being just a celebrity product or a rich girl thing.”

“Yes, of course,” Grace nodded with a smile.

  “Great.”

I finished my meeting with Bleu Cosmetics, and since I still had about thirty minutes before my lunch was over, I went and got me some food before heading back to my shop.

After chatting a little bit with Channie and then my other brow associates, I went back to my office to tear into this big spicy chicken salad. As soon as I’d finished and began to down my water, my office phone began ringing, so I wiped my mouth with a paper napkin and then answered.

“Hey, Draylah. The same guy from last time is here; North.”

I was hoping North had forgotten all about me and took his ass back to Florida where he lived, but I guess not. I didn’t want him around, largely because I was in the midst of getting Lily back.

For some reason, even though I felt like he never wanted her, I knew he’d be trying to pull off the daddy of the year shit just to be around somehow. And I also knew Ricky would not be okay with that. Not to mention, I didn’t want to confuse Lily by bringing yet another person around saying they were her parent. I felt like she would begin to think that we were lying or get scared.

“Okay, uh, go ahead and send him back. But let me know as soon as my next appointment comes, okay?”

  “Got ya.” Channie hung up.

I checked my messages to make sure Ricky’s grandmother hadn’t called or anything. Ricky still wasn’t talking to her, but she wanted to see the twins, and we both needed someone to watch them since I had to work and so did he. He was gonna take Lily and my babies with him, but I could not fathom the thought of my kids in some smoked out studio, or around that loud ass music.

  KNOCK! KNOCK!

“Come in!” I shouted, and waited as North walked into my office. “You can have a seat unless this is gonna be quick.”

“I can’t have a hug or anything? It’s been a while since that criminal ass boyfriend of yours almost got his ass whooped.”

“I don’t remember that. I do remember you getting punched and falling onto your back though, turtle dove.”

  “He—”

“North, what are you here for?” I leaned back some, crossing my legs, and his ass watched every move. I was wearing a simple tube dress and now regretting it.

“I umm…” He sat down. “You posted a video on your Instagram of that nigga you fucking, and Lily. Since when did you start having Lily?” He frowned.

“Why do you follow me?” I snapped back, irritated that he’d even seen it because I knew this would happen.

“That’s not the point, Draylah! That’s my fucking daughter, and you got this nigga playing daddy and shit like I’m dead or something!”

“Hold on, who the hell are you yelling at! Don’t come in here acting like you were so in love with Lily and the act of being her father, because you weren’t! She wasn’t even six months old before you ran your whack ass off to another state and got another bitch to have a new baby!”

  “Dray—”

“You didn’t even call or text me back when I told your stupid ass that she’d supposedly died!” I roared. I’d been wanting to light into his ass since the moment I’d realized he didn’t give a fuck. He didn’t even ask about why she was still alive, because he was more interested in some Instagram video. “You did not care about Lily, so don’t try to pretend like you do now! Go back to wherever you’ve been this whole time and leave us both alone!”

“Nah, I’m not. She’s my fucking daughter, and I ain’t about to let you be a family with that nigga.”

“Oh, but I bet if I was raising her alone, you wouldn’t be here right now.” I shook my head and chuckled angrily.

“Yeah I would.” He stood up and started to come around my desk, but I put my hand up, so he stopped. “Draylah, I left because I had a chance to make some real bread in Florida. I never stopped loving you or my baby. I didn’t text or call because honestly, I was shocked and didn’t know what to say.”

“Well I don’t want a man or boy or whatever the fuck you are, that can’t even comfort a woman he claims to love.”

“Draylah, I know you still love me the same way I still love you. This whole time I’ve been in Florida, I haven’t once not thought about you, baby. And now that Lily really ain’t dead, we can be a family for real.”

I guess he thought I forgot he had a whole female, two months after he moved,
and then a child only a year after Lily had ‘died.’

“I don’t want to be a family with you, North. I want to be a family with the man I am engaged to, and with Lily, and my twins; that is it. I want you to remove yourself from the equation.”

“So you love him more than me?”

“I love this holographic manicure more than you.” I held up my hand and it just so happened to have my blinding engagement ring on it, which ended up being perfect for this moment.

Sucking his teeth and backing up some, he sneered, “You just love that nigga ‘cause he got money and shit.”

“Okay, North. If you need to tell yourself that to feel better, then continue, but do it on the other side of that door.”

“You honestly want to be a family with him? He’s a fucking crazy ass criminal nigga! You’ve probably been taking care of all three of them kids by yaself while he’s out fucking groupies and shit!”

  “Yep, and I love it.”

I didn’t feel the need to defend Ricky because even North knew what he was saying was some bullshit. Hell, he was here because of the video I’d posted of Lily and Ricky bonding.

It was evident just from that video how close they were. So much so, that I saw a few comments saying that Lily was probably some daughter that Ricky had made with some groupie and just found out about her. That was comical to me.

“You love getting dogged out, huh?” North nodded, mouth twisted all up.

“Yep. But you need to go ahead and leave because I need to get back to work so I can make sure I’m home in time to cook my man some dinner.” I stood up and checked my watch.

“I ain’t about to let you just leave me, Draylah.”

What was this fool talking about? Didn’t he leave me?

“Okay. Have a good day, North.”

Obviously annoyed by my dry and uncaring responses, North yanked my office door open just as my phone rang. I picked it up, and it was Channie telling me my next client was here. By the time I finished re-brushing my teeth and popping some gum, North was gone, so I called my client back to the room to go ahead and service her.
