The Junkyard Bot

“You’re thinking about your mom and dad, aren’t you?” said Jackbot.
“Yes,” said George. “Somehow, I don’t think they were just filing clerks at TinkerTech. Micron knew them. And it all ties in to something called Project Mercury.”
They were almost at the classroom door when Jackbot gripped George’s arm. “Just be careful, George,” he said, suddenly serious. “Some secrets are best left undisturbed.”
Maybe Jackbot was right. Maybe some secrets should be left alone. But not this one. There were things George didn’t know about his parents, and he wasn’t going to stop until he found out the truth.
“Don’t worry,” said George. “If I have to do anything dangerous, I’ll send you in first. Deal?”
“Deal,” said Jackbot.
George is thrilled to be starting his new internship at TinkerTech—after all, it is his dream job. But when he and his wisecracking friend Jackbot get there on the first day, things don’t turn out exactly as George had hoped. Not only is he forced to work alongside his archenemy, Patricia Volt, but Professor Droid won’t even give him the time of day!
Everyone is too busy preparing for the big launch of the MODs, an amazing new invention that allows the user to access the digital world just by thought. It’s the ultimate hands-free device! But George has a bad feeling that there’s something strange going on with the MODs, and a series of “accidents” makes him wonder if they’re really safe . . .
Meanwhile, George is determined to find out more about his parents. If they weren’t just simple filing clerks at TinkerTech, who were they? And how did the evil Dr. Micron know them? As George, Jackbot, and their friend Anne dig deeper and deeper into the mystery of Project Mercury, they uncover a secret that might just change George’s life—forever.
