Ranger came back at him, trying to hit him in the face and Gavin ducked, threw an upper cut and connected with solid muscle before extracting himself from their tight war box. He wanted to prolong this; if he hadn’t wanted to make Ranger suffer Gavin could have killed him already.
“You bastard!” Ranger lunged at him again and once again he sidestepped him, dropped to the floor and used his leg to sweep Ranger off his feet. The man went down hard.
“That all you, got soldier. What did they teach you in that there Army of yours?” He chided, trying to get this monster back on his feet so he could inflict more pain.
“They taught me how to use this,” He growled as he picked the knife up from the table and lunged at Gavin. Gavin turned, avoiding the blade from connecting with his abdomen. Leverage, that’s what he needed for what he planned to do. He maneuvered his body behind Capri Montgomery

Rangers, jumped up and wrapped his arm around his neck. He felt Ranger stagger backwards, felt his body hit the wall back first with Ranger trying to repeatedly pound him off. When that didn’t work, Ranger decided trying to shake him off would be better. He increased his pressure, taking them down to the floor. He, being on Ranger’s back hit the floor first. He ignored the heavy weight on top of him and applied more pressure, more and then, one final bit until he heard Ranger’s neck break and felt the life seep out of his body. The man had no more fight left in him.
He heard one more set of loud pop pop noises. A sound that snapped him out of his anger laced battle victory moment and had him on his feet.
Sully was descending the stairs. “We got ‘em,” he winked.
“Every single one of them.” He quoted Gavin’s earlier words.
“Guys I said we needed one of the bastards alive.” Drake looked around at the mass of dead bodies around him. Leaving one alive would have been helpful, but it’s not exactly as if they had much of a choice. It was kill or be killed, and none of them felt like being on the receiving end of death.
“Hey,” Sully shrugged. “You said it was okay for me to shoot them. What was I supposed to do, let her shoot you in the back while you try to keep Nick down?” He had already killed the senator.
Drake shook his head. “Perhaps I should have been more specific. Had I known you were going to empty four clips in them I The McGregor Affair

wouldn’t have been so generous. I should have told you to just shoot one of them in the leg or something. Besides, I had Nick under control.”
Sully shrugged. “Shooting him took less effort than going hand to hand…although I have to admit it looked like you guys were having fun.”
Drake looked over at Gavin. “How is she?”
“Alive,” he mumbled. “Barely.” He cut the ropes that had her hands bound to the arms of the chair and then lifted her into his arms.
She moaned. The sound of her voice was frighteningly weak. “I’m going to get you to a doctor, love. Just hang on for me.” The blaring sounds of sirens told him backup was finally on the way. “Go on,” Sully said. “I’ll clean up. Once I talk with Langston I’ll call you.”
Gavin nodded. London took priority. He could handle paperwork later.

Epilogue
Rooms with bright lights and that sterile hospital smell weren’t London’s favorite past time, but she had stayed in the hospital as long as she had because Gavin had insisted she heal more before leaving. He seemed so distressed about things that she felt the need to help alleviate whatever guilt he was feeling.
She had assured him this wasn’t his fault, that he couldn’t have known what would happen to her while he was away, and he had just as passionately declared that he should have known. She shook her head.
Men…what could she do with him other than love him.
“Gavin,” she smoothed her hand over his chest. Her bruises were nearly gone, but they were still visible enough to distract him every time he looked at her. It was as if each look reminded him of The McGregor Affair

what had happened, and what he hadn’t been able to stop. “Baby I love it when you look at my body, but this is getting a bit crazy; don’t you think?”
He smoothed his hand over her naked stomach. He had insisted on taking a bath with her, then he insisted on helping to dry her off, and now he seemed to be insisting on rehashing his presumed failure while she stood there naked and cold.
“I’m sorry,” he mumbled.
“For saving my life?” She changed tactics. “Because trust me if you hadn’t arrived that night I’d be dead right now.”
“You shouldn’t have been there in the first place,” he growled.
“And that’s your fault how exactly?” He started to respond and she held up her hand. “Look, if you hadn’t come into this case things would have ended badly for everybody, me included. Do you really think things would have gone down any other way? This wasn’t your fault. Stop beating yourself up over it. You saved my life, you’ve decided to move your things into my home and to share your life with me while letting me share mine with you. What more could a woman want?”
He laughed—the first real laugh she had heard in weeks.
“The bruises will go away, Gavin. Be thankful that I have them.” She saw his eyes snap to hers questioning her as to why he should be thankful. “Be thankful that I’m alive to have them. I’m alive because of you. Don’t forget that.” Capri Montgomery

He pulled her into his arms and held her.
“Now,” she whispered against his ear. “You need to either let me get dressed or find some other way of warming me up because I’m freezing here.”
He laughed. “I can think of a lot of things that will warm you up, London.” He slipped his hand between her thighs and caressed her intimately. “Starting here,” he removed his hand and she mourned the loss of the contact. He didn’t waste time putting just enough space between them to caress her breast, taking the nipple between his fingers and squeezing. “Or maybe here,” he whispered before lifting his fingers to her lips and lightly rubbing his index finger against her plump mouth. “Or maybe here.”
She sighed and leaned into him. “I don’t care where; just start somewhere.”
He laughed. “Nah, first we need to discuss our wedding.”
“What wedding?”
“You proposed to me, did you not?”
“What? No…”
“Yes you did. You proposed on live television too, so that makes it hard to deny; you know?” He laughed again before sliding his hands over her waist. “Yep, you proposed.” He grinned. “And quite frankly I’d like to marry you before my mother has her wedding; otherwise we’ll have to wait for them to get back from their The McGregor Affair

honeymoon. From what my mother tells me they’re planning to be gone for six months. I don’t want to wait that long, love.” Her eyes widened in surprise. “But your mother is getting married in two months. We can’t pull off a wedding that quickly.”
“Sure we can. We’ve got the luck of the Irish on our side.” She laughed. “You’re insane, McGregor—but I love you anyway.”
He exhaled slowly. “I’m getting wise to you, sweet cakes.
You’re just calling me McGregor so you can have your way with me.” She laughed this time. “If you weren’t so slow on the uptake I wouldn’t have to distract you with insults.” He was the only person she knew who took offense being called by last name instead of first. She wondered if it bothered him when everybody did it, or just when she did it.
He slid his hands over her behind and pulled her flush against his hardened sex. “Slow on the uptake, eh? I’ll show you slow.” She knew just what that threat meant—slow, long, delicious love making that would have her withering beneath his
body and screaming out his name. Yes, she wanted that, and she wanted it right now.
“Are you sorry about your job?” His voice was serious, as if he needed to have this conversation before they could move on to things that would be more deliciously fun.

“No,” she shook her head. She didn’t regret telling Warren that she wouldn’t sign on for the revamped show. They had to make changes because the network demanded those changes. They wanted bigger, better, more dangerous to play up the unauthorized television move they were making about what went down on the show. They didn’t have all the details, but knowing Hollywood they would embellish with their own spin. No, she didn’t want a part in that at all.
“Are you sorry about moving here, with me?”
“No,” he caressed her passionately. “The only thing I’m sorry about is that I have this beautiful, naked woman in front of me. I have the hard on of the century, and I don’t have any bloody condoms.” She laughed. “We’re getting married. I suppose we can forget about the condoms now.”
He pulled her in. “Sweet Jesus. I thought you were going to say no.”
“To sex with you?”
“No, to marrying me.”
“You didn’t ask; remember.”
“Details,” he mumbled against her neck, letting his lips place succulent kisses on her skin. “As long as you’re Mrs. McGregor I don’t care if you asked me first.”
“McGowan,” she corrected him.
“Details,” he said as he swept her up into his arms and headed for the bedroom.

She could get used to this, used to him—and for the first time in her life, the connection felt right, felt whole. She would marry this man; make him her husband, her friend, her lifetime lover. He was hers, and she was his—forever.
