“You don’t even read books. How can you make millions as a songwriter? Your manager has probably made tens of millions.”

  “Hey, don’t rub that in.”

“You’re not jealous of his fame and notoriety, are you, hero?” Skylar grinned and patted Cortez on the back.

  “Jealous? No. Befuddled… perhaps.”

“Would you feel better about it all if I did as you suggested?” Jerick asked. “Sent my money to the government in the hope that they’d send the title to the ship? If I was the rightful owner, I guess that would make me your boss, eh, Captain?”

“I… yes. It would be strange to get used to that relationship, but believe it or not, the knowledge that I essentially stole a military ship is what bothers me most about all of this.”

“I think you could get used to an unorthodox relationship,” Skylar said. “Just a hunch.”

Cortez snorted, looked at them both, and rested one hand on Skylar’s shoulder, then leaned past her to grip Jerick’s shoulder. “Maybe so.”

“Perhaps we should relax for a while,” she suggested. “Before we get into Hostile Space and have to be more vigilant.”

“Relaxing isn’t quite what’s popping into my mind right now,” Cortez said.

“I concur.” Jerick wriggled his eyebrows, then tugged Skylar back on the bed.

She settled on his chest and pulled Cortez down too. Soon, she was sandwiched between them, with no other place she would want to be.
