Dangerous Resurgence: An Alpha Billionaire Romance With a Side of Mystery (The Devil Wears a Suit Book #6)

Scott helped her into the passenger seat of his car and got behind the wheel himself.
“So, where do you live?” Scott asked.
“Um,” Hope said, searching through her pocket for her phone. She pulled it out and showed Scott the screen. “This is the map.”
Scott revved the engines and took off. From his calm exterior, Hope could not have predicted that he would drive like a mad man. Scott almost floored the acceleration pedal, taking advantage of the clear street, as only a few cars were on the road so early.
“Whoa,” Hope complained. “Are you trying to get into the hospital yourself?”
“What?”
"Because I'm kind of tired of that place, so you can just drop me somewhere."
Scott laughed, thankfully getting the joke. Hope always worried that her jokes would go over Scott’s head because she said them with a very serious delivery. Gabriel used to find it hard to tell whether she was being sarcastic or not.
“I’m so sorry,” Scott said, slowing down. “Maybe it’s the adrenaline from the run.”
“It’s alright,” Hope said, seguing into the longest awkward silence they’d had so far.
Hope thought about screaming at Scott for not telling her that he was married. If she wasn’t insane, Hope was sure Scott had been flirting with her for days.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you,” Scott suddenly said.
“What?”
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about, Olivia,” he repeated. “I know you were surprised when I brought her to the hospital.”
“It’s alright,” Hope lied.
“I don’t know what I was thinking,” Scott said. “If you don’t want to come to dinner tonight, I’d totally understand.”
“Why wouldn’t I want to come to dinner?” Hope laughed. “Come on, Scott, loosen up. She's really pretty and unbelievably nice.”
“Yeah, she is,” Scott smiled. “She likes you, as well. As for the daredevil driving, I'm not very used to driving behind the wheel.”
“Oh, I see,” Hope said. “You’ve had a driver all your life?”
“You sound like you’ve met quite a few of that type.”
“Quite a few.”
“Well, that’s not exactly what I meant,” Scott said.
“This is me,” Hope said, pointing to her apartment ahead of them before he sped past it.
Scott slowed down, parking by the sidewalk in front of her apartment, where Tristan used to park when he came to pick her up. Hope was reminded of that earlier chapter of her life as she got out of the car.
Scott hopped down from the car to Hope's door, opening it for her and gesturing for her to alight as a chauffeur would do. "Milady."
“Funny,” Hope commented. Now that Scott had actually talked about the elephant in the room, Hope was annoyed that he so obviously tried to hide his marriage from her.
“I’ll send you our address,” Scott said as she walked away.
“Alright, then.”
Hope walked into her apartment, steaming with frustration. She wanted nothing to do with Scott again, yet she also couldn't help wanting him badly. It was a conundrum that she'd never faced before, and she hated feeling so enchanted by him. There was no rationality behind her desire for him, yet there she was, thinking about him. She supposed she was less angry with him and angrier at the fact that he wasn’t hers for the taking.
She stomped to her wardrobe and ran her fingers through her dresses. She found something she thought was perfect; a deep-necked red dress and red bottomed heels. She hardly ever dressed with such an obvious effort, but if she couldn't kill Olivia, the least she could do was make it hard for Scott to take his eyes off of her.
Hope spent nearly the rest of the day preparing for the dinner. Sorting out what to wear wasn't an issue; it only took all morning. She got a message from Scott, giving her the address to their house, but she didn't bother checking it, because she already knew where they lived. Hope wished her hair was still red, but her natural colors would do just fine; too much red might've been too obvious.
There was a café on the street where Scott lived. It had a huge glass window giving anyone inside a view of the entire street, and it was literally only seconds away from his front door. Hope sat in a window seat of the café, sipping a coffee and observing Scott’s house.
They'd had a few people go out and come back with groceries in brown bags, presumably housemaids. They were going out of their way to buy ingredients, which only meant that they were having their chef make something special. Hope was of actual importance to them, and they wanted to impress her.
But why? Hope asked herself. Was Olivia trying to send her a message?
Hope caught herself trying to control the narrative. She was eager to paint Olivia as a bitch in nice-girl clothing, because she needed her to be. It had never been easy for Hope to harm genuinely good people, which was why she had been so nice to her nurse, Maggie. Olivia was the wife of the man Hope wanted, but other than that Hope had no problem with her whatsoever.
The time for Hope to attend their dinner came, and she simply crossed the street and rang the bell to their house.
"Hope!" Olivia said as she opened the door. "You look gorgeous! Oh, my God!"
"Thanks," Hope smiled. "Hope I didn't overdress."
"No, you look perfect," she said. "Babe! Hope's here!"
Olivia closed the door behind them. “The dining area is down the hall to your right. The table is already set.”
Hope walked down the hall, looking around. She didn't notice any pictures of them anywhere, but then she remembered Scott saying something about not living in this state. Maybe this was just a temporary residence, which meant Hope hadn't done her homework thoroughly enough. She found the dining area already set, as Olivia promised.
“Wow,” Hope heard Scott say behind her.
She whipped around and found him standing there, sinking her into his eyes. He remained speechless for a few seconds, which let Hope know she had been successful.
“You look gorgeous,” he finally said.
“Why, thank you,” Hope smiled. She was enjoying watching him so obviously lust after her.
Scott stepped towards her, getting quite close, so Hope could smell his euphoric scent. Soon, she found herself in the same position he was in, fighting the urge to grab him by the collar and kiss him, something that Hope had not planned on at all.
“You don’t look,” Hope breathed, “so bad yourself.”
“No?”
“No.”
Their staring contest continued, although Scott’s gaze often drifted from her eyes to her cleavage. Hope was lost in his hazel eyes, but soon they were both staring at each other’s lips, and that’s when it happened. Before Hope knew it, her eyes were closed, and she was breathing hard as she made out with Scott. She ran her hands over his firm chest, and he took her waist, making his way down to her behind.
“So,” Olivia said, taking Hope out of the kiss immediately. “You couldn’t even wait till after diner?”

Author Note + Thank you
Hello Beautiful Readers!
Thank you for reading; I hope you love the story as much as I do. If you could spare some time, I’d like to get to know each other a little better?
Okay, I’ll go first…
I’ve been reading and writing ever since I was small, but going from princes saving princesses to sexy, strong, confident women bringing hot, possessive, dominant alpha males to their knees was quite the change!
Instead of following my dream of becoming an author (I know!), I decided to study something you’d consider ‘sensible’ for too many years. While studying, I took every spare second to continue writing sultry stories, inspired by the many scandalous parties I went to and my dating life – which has been everything from fun one-night stands and heartbreak to finding true love. I’ve absolutely no regrets, and nothing could hold me back from writing about every second of it!
Eventually, the mundane 9-5 took over, leaving little to no time for reading, let alone writing. Necessity pulled me from job to job, never using my ‘sensible’ degree and never getting any further. After years of it, enough was enough and I took the leap to write full-time. It was a risk, but it’s brought so much light back into my life.
I put a little bit of myself in every story, taking months to perfect each one for you.
This series means the world to me, so I’d love to hear your feedback. (I make sure to read every single one.)
Leaving a review also helps get the word out to others about my hot, dirty, fun reads!
Thank you so much for your continued support!
With Love,
