The Black Lily (Tales of the Black Lily)

The scintillating tingle of his elixir flowed swiftly through her body.
“Marius, that’s cheating.”
“It’s persuasion.”
“Coercion.”
“You’d be stronger, more protected as a vampire. For the Black Lily.”
“And for you.”
“Yes. And for me,” he confessed. “I won’t deny it. I only want it for me, truth be told. I’m a selfish bastard. Well, and maybe for our children.”
She laughed. “Children?”
“Hmm.”
“I promise I will let you change me. But not yet. The Black Lily needs a human to lead them. Not a vampire. They won’t trust me if I appear to switch allegiances.”
“I know the argument. I’ve heard you spout this a hundred times. It’s compelling. But I still want you. For as long as I can possibly have you.”
“I know. I want the same.” She hugged his arms tighter, and he pulled her closer. “I promised you. And I’ll keep my promise. Just as you have kept yours.”
“All right then.” He unwound himself from her and offered his hand. “I suppose for now, I will let the Black Lily keep my lady.”
She took his hand and stood, pecking him on the cheek. “For now.”
“But not forever,” he said more seriously, arching his lovely dark brow.
“No. Not forever. That belongs to you.”

Acknowledgments
No writer is an island, that’s for damn sure. While my husband is the constant in my life who keeps me grounded and sane, I must mention a few others who have played significant roles in this series. To my writing warriors Gemma Brocato and A.S. Fenichel—for the writing challenge which first spurred this story on. To my dear friends Rhenna Morgan and Kyra Jacobs—for the daily affirmations, the laughter, and all the love. A huge thank you to my editor Tera Cuskaden who agreed that vampires needed a comeback and who is an amazing kickass editor. And finally, to my brilliant agent Rachel Brooks who has been my number one champion and who I absolutely adore.
About the Author
Juliette is a multi-published author of paranormal and fantasy romance. She calls lush, moss-laden Louisiana home where she lives with her husband, four kids, and black lab named Kona. From the moment she read Jane Eyre as a teenager, she fell in love with the Gothic romance—brooding characters, mysterious settings, persevering heroines, and dark, sexy heroes. Even then, she not only longed to read more books set in Gothic worlds, she wanted to create her own.
