“I promise I’ll tell you everything but will you quit looking at me like that please?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He takes another drink of his beer, his face never changing.

“You’re looking at me like you look at Sal, with disgust.”

“Well, I’m sorry but I can’t really change my feelings so…” He shrugs.

“Okay. I should have known you weren’t going to go easy on me. Well if you’re not going to sit, I am. My ankles are swelling like balloons lately.” I walk over to his couch and place my purse and keys on his coffee table. I don’t bother texting Lance because I don’t want to raise any suspicion in Killian. I feel one hundred percent confident he’s not going to do anything to harm me. I kick my legs up on his coffee table, knowing that this is going to take a while and to also show him I don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon. “Before I start, you have to promise me that what I tell you today doesn’t ever leave this room.”

“I’m not the one who’s been lying this whole time.”

“Killian, I’m serious. You can’t even begin to imagine half of the shit I’m about to tell you and I need to know it’s going to stay with you.”

“You have my word. Now start explaining yourself.”

“Not a word until I’m done talking. I’m serious. And you can’t get up and storm out. You need to just stand there and listen from start to finish. When I’m done explaining everything, you can either kick me out and we never have to speak again, or you can choose to help me.” He raises his eyebrow and I know I have his attention as he walks over and sits next to me on the couch. “Now, it’s going to seem like I betrayed you, a lot, but I haven’t.”

“Great.” Dragging out his words, I smack his arm. He rubs it like I actually caused him pain and I’m grateful to see a little of the sarcastic side of him right now. It gives me hope that this all won’t blow up in my face.

“No talking until I’m done.” I pause because no matter whichever truth I deliver first, it’s still going to be a blow to the gut. I figure I’ll save the cop thing for last and start with my recent daddy issues. “Let’s start with Sal. When Angelo recruited me, I had no idea that Sal was my father. The thing is, I was adopted and till this day, I had no interest of finding out who my birth parents were.” I stop, realizing that I’m telling him the same lie I told Sal. I promised I’d tell him the truth and I’m already lying. “They both died in a car crash and I made a living off the streets. That’s the story that Sal and Angelo got. The truth is, I had no idea he was my father until they did the blood work. I still couldn’t believe it, so I confronted my mother about it and she confirmed it. You see, the man I consider my father, Thomas, came in the picture when I was three. Before that, my mom was a single parent. She made one bad choice of sleeping with a man she didn’t know. Once she realized who he was, she moved and never told him about me. You see, I had to lie to Sal so my mother wouldn’t suffer for keeping the truth from him.”

“So you found out about it through Sal when he got the blood work back and Sal put you in charge. Why didn’t you tell me then? Why keep it a secret?” I see this whole listen first ask, questions later isn’t going to happen.

“Because it’s more complicated than that. I actually knew about the blood work before Sal did. Dante found out and told me first.”

“How could he tell you something like that without compromising…” He stops as if a light bulb just went off in his head. “Jesus Ava, I think you should stop there. I’m not sure if I want to know the rest. In fact, I think I’m going to be sick.”

“You need to hear the rest.”

  “Do I?”

“Yes, it’s important.” Throwing his head back against the couch, he runs his hands through his hair, pulling out the ends and letting out an aggravated groan. “Dante had a hunch that something was off with me. I felt like he was on to me, so I drugged him and figured out he was also undercover. It’s very rare that two different people are placed undercover and they don’t know about each other. Ultimately, we decided to work together. I’m an undercover agent with the FBI. Dante and I were placed in the same case unbeknownst to the other agency. It only made sense to combine resources and we hoped it would bring things together faster but then Dante died and everything changed.”

“Please explain to me again how telling me all this is going to help me? Right now, it seems like the more you talk, the deeper shit you’re putting me in and I’m not sure I want any part of it.” He rubs the side of his temple.

“Because I can help you get justice, revenge for Aria. I can help you start over and live the honest life you thought you would never get to live. I can help you get back the life you tried to build.”

His booming laughter fills the room. “An honest life? Did you conveniently forget the threat he made against my mother? Did you ever think by telling me all this not only are you putting me in danger, but her as well?”

“We can take care of your mother, Killian. We can make sure she stays safe and you can walk away free from all of this. We can reopen Aria’s case and finally make things right. I know this is a lot to take in, but it’s happening one way or another, with or without you.”

“So you and Dante were working together.”

  “Yes.”

“How did I not see this coming?”

“Because you’re not as witty as I am.” I joke, nudging him with my elbow and he cracks a smile.

“So if I help you, you will make sure they all pay for what they did to Aria?”

Placing my hand on his cheek, I gaze into his eyes. “I give you my word,” I rub his face with my thumb. He rests his cheek in my palm before covering my hand with his.

“Thank you.” He whispers as a tear rolls down the side of his face. I know the whole situation with Aria kills him and I just want to take away the pain. Leaning forward, I press my lips to his and place a gentle, caring kiss on them. I’m not sure why I just did that, but I pull away quickly.

“I’m sorry, I don’t know…” Before I can finish explaining myself to him, he pulls me forward, our lips crashing on each other. His tongue brushes across my lips, begging for them to part and they effortlessly open for him. It’s been so long since I’ve had the touch of a man, my body’s cravings take control over me. My mind is trying to remind me how this is not a good idea but my body is yelling at it to shut the fuck up.

He pulls me to straddle him and we are all hands and mouths. We are pulling and tugging at each other’s clothes, like the lust is taking over our actions. When he starts kissing my neck, across my shoulder and down to the swell of my breast, I hang my head back and silently plead. Dante, please forgive me.

I reach down and slowly lower the zipper on his jeans, lifting my body up so he can shimmy his pants to the ground. My breath is coming quickly as his hardness falls out of his jeans and into my hand. He's as big as I dreamt about, but feeling it for real makes me moan. I gently take him in my hands, rubbing him until his tip is wet. I can’t wait any longer, the need to feel him almost overwhelming me as I guide him to my opening and lower myself onto him. He lets out a groan and the feel of his length stretching me consumes me. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a man pleasure me and I take my time, letting my body adjust to his size. Without thought I begin to move up and down on him, riding his cock slowly. Our lips never part, our tongues coming together in a sensual dance that is driving me crazy. My pussy gets slicker and slicker with each downward thrust, my wetness coating his cock makes him thrust up into me, building the friction between us. He bites on my tongue gently before moving his mouth down to my breast, sucking my nipple gently into his mouth. He pulls his head back, my nipple popping from his mouth before he blows cold air over the wetness and I arch my back, pushing my breasts into his face, urging him on. He moves a hand slowly down my body, pushing his fingers through my wetness before he turns his attention to my clit, his now wet thumb circling it in quick motions. I can feel
myself getting closer, the muscles in my stomach tightening, ready for the orgasm I crave. I feel myself tighten as Killian thrusts harder into me, his rhythm starting to falter as I feel him getting harder inside me. I throw my head back as my hips grind down one final time, feeling my orgasm rip through my entire body. Killian groans my name as he releases inside me, prolonging my orgasm to the point I think I might pass out. I lean my head on his shoulder, trying desperately to catch my breath. I feel him kiss my neck and I raise my head, his gentle smile meeting my gaze. We don’t speak as he pulls from my now sated body, and he places one last kiss on my lips before pulling me down to the couch. I lie on my side, Killian’s body wrapped around mine as he holds me close. As I relish the feeling of being held again, I slip into a comfortable sleep.

Waking up, it takes me a minute to remember where I am. I look up over the chest my head is resting on and see Killian passed out on the couch. The realization of what I let happen sinks in and I cringe as I realize I crossed the line of friendship with him. I let my need for sex take over my common sense. Freaking out and deciding to take the cowardly way out, I slowly lift myself from his chest and quietly grab my things, quickly slipping out the front door before he wakes.

I called Sal this morning and told him I wouldn’t be around the next couple days. When he asked why, I told him it was baby related and he was more than thrilled to oblige. He keeps talking about how excited he is to meet his grandchild and he even started a savings account for the little one. Little does he know, he will have nothing to do with my child and I sure as hell won’t be taking his blood money.

Truth is, I’ve been avoiding Killian. I’ve been kicking myself ever since we had sex and at the time I knew it was a horrible idea but I’m only human and my body gave into what it was craving. When I woke in his arms, I panicked and snuck out, taking the coward’s way out of the situation. He hasn’t called or texted either, which is weird for him, so I’m hoping this doesn’t affect the friendship we’ve built.

Laying low has been hard. I haven’t done a damn thing except meet Ferris at the park, veg out on the couch watching television, and my favorite, play Super Mario Brothers on my old school Nintendo. Dante always made fun of me when I would want to play. He tried teaching me how to play a game on his XBOX but just trying to learn how to work the damn controller was a pain in my ass. When he tried to convince me that I would love the games so much more because a lot of them involved realistic shooting, I held my finger up and opened the drawer under the coffee table, pulling out the duck hunt gun remote.

“You really think that is a shooting game?” His voice had held a tone of humor in it as he looked at the game in my hand.

“It is! You point the gun at the bird and shoot it.”

“You’re lucky if the sensor even picks up the damn duck. I hated that game when I was a kid. The sensor never lined up and then getting mocked at by the damn dog because I couldn’t kill the bird just made me throw the controller across the room, wanting to shoot the dog instead of the ducks.” I can picture him doing just that, he wouldn’t like that the game got the better of him, he needs to be the best.

“I never seem to have a problem with the sensor lining up. Are you sure the problem wasn’t the user? Just saying.” I try to keep my face straight and my voice serious as I taunt him.

“Are you challenging me at a game of Duck Hunt?” I finally let a small smile play across my lips as he takes the bait.

“I thought that was already established when I pulled out the controller. I’ll even be a good host and let you go first.” I hold out the controller and wait for him to take it from me. When he does, he chuckles at me.

“Only if you insist, but I don’t want you to get all upset when I kill it and you don’t do as well as me.” His words sound confident as he points the controller at the screen.

“Quit trash talking and get to shooting.”

Just thinking back on that day brings a smile to my face. Dante did horribly and couldn’t make it past round one. After I did effortlessly, he claimed foul play and demanded a rematch at an actual shooting range. The sound of my game ending brings me out of my daydream just as my stomach rumbles.

Walking to the fridge to make myself a salad, my phone starts to ring. I figure whoever it is can wait. I’m starving and need to eat. As I’m washing the lettuce, my phone starts to ring again and let it go to voicemail for the second time. Before I can even lay the wet lettuce out on the paper towel, my phone goes off again, bugging the shit out of me. Wiping my hands on the dishtowel, I walk back to the living room and follow the non-stop annoying ringing to where my phone is sitting. I don’t even look at the screen when I pick it up, sliding the bar to answer.

“Someone had better be dying.” I answer annoyed, walking back to the kitchen.

  “Ava, it’s Joe.”

“Hey, Riggs. Was that you who just called my phone obnoxiously three times in a row?” I joke. I can hear chatter in the background and I know he’s working. He mumbles something before answering me. I can tell by his voice that something’s wrong.

“Listen, I’m going to text you an address. I need you to get down here now and it’s important that you aren’t followed. No one can know where you’re going.”

Feeling worried I ask, “Joe, is everything okay?”

“Just get down here as fast as you can and then we’ll talk.” He doesn’t give me time to respond as he hangs up. Not even a minute later, my text box pops up with an address on it. I know he said to get there quickly but I’ve been vegging it up and I’m sure I stink. I’ll have to take a quick shower before I leave. The last thing I need is for Joe to think I’m not taking care of myself and then have random people stopping by to check up on me. After showering, I throw my hair up in a messy bun and put on jeans and a t-shirt. I'm about to rush out the door when my stomach rumbles and I realize I’ve forgotten to eat. I move quickly to the kitchen and make a sandwich to take with me, wrapping it in a piece of foil so it will be easy to eat while I drive. Making sure I have everything I need, I leave the house and get into my car.

It takes me about two hours to get to the address that I entered into my GPS. As soon as I turn onto the street of my destination, I’m stopped by all the cop cars swarming the area, blocking off a perimeter. I have to park a little further back than I’d like, but what can you do?

As I approach the yellow tape, I’m stopped by an officer holding his hand up, telling me I can’t go any further. I ask to speak to Captain Riggs and the guy looks at me like I have three heads. I don’t have patience for people like this today, or ever honestly, so I bypass him and go under the tape. He’s starts yelling at me, telling me ‘ma’am you can’t go over there’. He makes the mistake of placing his hand on my forearm to stop me. Grabbing a hold of it, I lock in my hand and push his body, swinging it around mine to the ground taking him completely by surprise. Before I can tell him who I am, I have two officers pulling me away.

“Whoa! Get your hands off her.” Riggs voice calls out. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him in uniform and I’m thankful he’s wearing it because the officers immediately release me. “Are you okay?” He scowls at the officers. “Did they hurt you?”

I laugh. “I’m fine, but you might want to ask the officer laying on the ground over there the same question.” Riggs looks over to the guy getting up and shakes his head smirking.

“You really can’t be doing that kind of stuff, Ava. You could hurt the baby.” His voice softens as he mentions the baby and I know I need to move this on. I don’t want to be treated like the delicate pregnant woman.

“Joe,” I glare at him. “Why am I here? What was so urgent that I had to rush down here?”

Pulling me into a hug, he holds me for a good minute before pulling away. “It’s been too long since I’ve seen you. It shouldn’t take work to get us together.”

  “I know.”

“Follow me.” I walk beside him and make small talk on how the baby is d
oing and how things have been going at work since Dante’s death. The department is trying to blame Joe for what happened and they are threatening his job if this isn’t tied up soon. I feel partly responsible for the position he’s in, and will do everything I can to make sure he doesn’t lose his job. As we approach an alley, I turn the corner and see Sylva talking to two men. I can’t see who they are since their backs are to me but one guy is tall with dark hair and has tattoos peeking out from the sleeves of his t-shirt. The other is almost the same height with lighter hair. I didn’t know Sylva was going to be here and I’m a little nervous to see him. I still have to apologize to him for what happened the last time I saw him. We walk up to the men and Sylva glances at me before turning to one of the guys he’s with.

“I gotta run, but it was good seeing you man. Let me know when you’re free, and tell the Mrs. I said hello.” Sylva slaps the man on the back as he says goodbye to the guy he's speaking to.

“I will, and you will have to come over and meet the baby.”

“Just tell me when and we’ll make it happen. You can bring the family up to the cabin.”

The man laughs. “Yeah, right. My poor daughter will probably have nightmares about all those heads you have on your wall.”

“Well when she gets older she can tell all her boyfriends about those heads and that theirs will end up there if they don’t treat her right.” I shudder as I remember the animal heads all over the cabin walls. It would scare anyone in their right minds, and I suddenly feel sorry for anyone who dates this guy’s daughter.

“That’s not necessary, she’s never going to date.”

Sylva bellows. “That’s cute that you think that. I’ll see you later man. Catch you later, Lucas.” He shakes the blonde’s hand before leaving. As he walks past me, he gives me a small smile. “Ava,” That’s all he says to me before he walks away. Now is not the time or place to discuss our issues so it will have to wait. I don’t blame him for being short and cold with me. If the situation were reversed I would have acted the same way.
