Onyx and Starr

“FUCK YOU NIGGA!”
“No muthafucka; FUCK YOU WITH YO OLE BITCH ASS! I told you from the jump you wasn’t ready. You just should fell back like I told you to, you dumb muthafucka.”
“Is there a problem here?” The security guard asks. Where the fuck did he come from? I mean, it has been a good fifteen minutes since I knocked this muthafucka on his ass and the damn guard is just coming around now.
“Nah, we’re good. I think my best friend’s boyfriend fell and hurt himself,” I say.
“Are you alright sir? Do you need me to call an ambulance?” The guard asks with a concerned look on his face.
“Nah, I’m cool. Can you just help me up?” He asks the guard, who is more than happy to help him get up.
“Aaarrgggghhhh!” Freddy yells in pain. Yea, that’s what his ass gets for fuckin’ with me. I learned that move years ago and I’ve used it several times since. Sometimes after I’ve applied that move to a nigga, he will be fine and back to normal in a matter of three days. But that ain’t always the case. I’ve actually crippled a couple of dudes with that move by rupturing their spleen. I guess depending on the situation and the level of my anger, I hit just a little bit too hard.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” The security guard asks again.
“Yea, I just need to get to my car so I can get home.”
“Where are you parked sir?” asks the guard.
“Over there,” Freddy says, pointing in the direction of his car.
“Are you sure you can make it there by yourself? Maybe your friend can help you,” the guard says as he turns to look in my direction.
Awww hell no! I ain’t helping that nigga get no fucking where. Had it been left up to me, his ass would still be lying on the damn ground. I wasn’t helping him with a damn thing.
“Oh y’all must got me fucked up because I ain’t friends with that nigga. Starr, I gotta go but I’ma text you later and we can get together to discuss your mom’s party soon,” I say and leave them to find out how they are going to get where they need to go. She gives me a look that begs me to stay and help her boo, but she should already know that once I put my foot down about something, it’s etched in stone.
“Fuck that nigga! I don’t need his fuckin’ help!” Freddy says weakly.
“Good because I have no plans on helping yo ass. Good luck getting to your whip,” I say with a smile.
“Fuck you!”
I can’t believe this nigga is still running his mouth like this. I mean, he already in pain where he’s at and he’s still trying to talk shit to me. He is lucky that damn rent a cop is here, otherwise, I’d be giving him a repeat performance. But I’ll be the bigger man and walk away.
“Onyx!” I can hear her calling me. “ONYX!” I don’t even bother to look back as I wave my hand to her and keep walking.
I make it to my car and I hear a beep signaling that I just received a text message. I pull my phone out and slide the screen open. I should have known the message would be from Starr.
Starr: U r so wrong
Me: Yea right!
Starr: U could’ve been the bigger person n helped him
Me: I was the bigger person when I walked away
Starr: OK
Me: OK ttyl
I don’t care how or if that nigga ever got up off the ground. If he had just stayed out of my way, none of that would have happened. Next time, he needs to be more mindful of who he fucks with.
CHAPTER THIRTEEN
Starr
If I had known that Onyx and Freddy would have gotten into it, I would have walked in another direction. The last thing I wanted was for my best friend and my boyfriend to fight because of their relationships with me. I know that Freddy has an issue with my friendship with Onyx, but I don’t pay much attention to it because any dude I date is going to have an issue with Onyx and I. I also know that Onyx does not care for Freddy at all. I think it has a lot to do with his feelings for me. But I never expected them to go at it like this.
Sure the past few months have been strained between the three of us. Even more strained because Onyx started dating Mandy again. I don’t know what made him start dating her again when he knows that she isn’t any good for him. He claims they aren’t boyfriend and girlfriend, but friends with benefits. That’s even worst if you ask me because that means every time they see each other, it’s just to have sex. I hate thinking about Onyx and Mandy having sex, especially since I’m still a virgin myself. But I can’t help it.
Now that she’s sleeping with Onyx again, the phone calls, text messages and harassment towards me has stopped. I hate that he’s with her but I’m glad to finally have some peace from her. I mean, she was ridiculous and I think that might even be the reason they started sleeping together again.
The next day, after the encounter between Onyx and Freddy, I go over to Onyx’s house. It’s around two o’clock in the afternoon and I want him to help me plan my mom’s party. I ring the doorbell and Mrs. Renee comes to the door.
“Oh, hey Starr. Come on in. Onyx, Starr is here!”
He enters the room with the phone to his ear. “Look, I’ma call you back girl, dang!”
He says as he ends the call. I look at him because I already know who was just on the phone; Mandy. It doesn’t take long for her to text my phone.
Mandy: Bitch! I told u 2 stay away from my man!!!
Onyx and I head to their family room. Once there he asks, “Did Mandy just text your phone?”
I nod my head and say, “You should already know.”
“Do you have Mr. Number on your phone?”
“No, what’s Mr. Number?”
“You have to be kidding me right? You never heard of Mr. Number? I thought I told you about it a lil while back. It’s an app on your phone that blocks unwanted calls and text messages. I used it when Mandy and I broke up because she kept texting and calling like a madwoman.”
“She is a madwoman. I don’t know why you even got involved with her again because she obviously has some screws loose,” I tell him.
“So, you gonna get the app?”
“Hell yea! But let me text her right quick. I’m gonna be the one to have the last laugh on this bitch,” I say.
“You don’t have to do that. That isn’t necessary for you to even respond to her. But I will let her know what I think about her contacting you though. It doesn’t make any sense,” he says.
Me: Bitch fuck you! I will come over here whenever I damn well please and you can’t do a fuckin’ thing about it! Now stop calling and texting my fuckin’ phone you hoodrat!
Right after I send the text, I block her number and this app is so cool. I can block the number from calls and texts and delete the text as they come in so I don’t even have to see them. I know that girl will be mad as hell once she realizes she can’t get through and she ain’t getting no response from me.
“Now, all done and I feel good.”
Not long after that, Mandy calls Onyx’s phone. I can’t hear what she’s saying, but from what I’m hearing on his side, it doesn’t sound good.
“Why the hell did you text her anyway?”
“Naw. Naw. You must not want what we have to work anymore.”
I’m sitting there like, “Yaaassssss! Please tell that bitch to kick rocks.”
“Look, I’ma holla at you later.”
There was a pause as he listens to what she has to say.
“If you come around here and act the fool, it’s over! And I’m not playing with you.”
Another pause.
“I know we ain’t even back together. But the fuckin’ will be over. And once I call it quits this time, that’ll be the last time.”
He doesn’t wait to hear anything else as he ends the call. He runs a hand down his face and looks at me.
“I don’t know what you see in her. She’s just a real bitch and she doesn’t take responsibility for anything she does. Everything is everybody else’s fault but hers,” I say.
/> “I know you don’t understand how I could be with her. I can’t understand how you can be with Freddy either but you are. We may never understand why we are with who we’re with, but it is what it is. It’s not our jobs to figure out why we are with the people we have attached ourselves too. But I can tell you what. I will dump Mandy’s ass in a minute if you give us a chance,” he says.
“Onyx, we’ve been through this already.”
He steps close to me. “You know I’m going to college in the fall, so all we have is the next four and a half months. I know that you have feelings for me. I get that you don’t want our friendship to be put in jeopardy. I get that, but who says we can’t have it all? Who says we can’t have love and our friendship?”
“I’m just scared to take that chance Onyx,” I say.
“Stop being scared of being with me. We’ve been friends for way too long for me to let anything affect us negatively. If you can’t trust me, then who can you trust?”
“Onyx,” I say before he lifts my chin and presses his lips to mine. Oh my God! As much as I don’t want to admit this, it feels so right. How can something that feels so right feel wrong too? He wraps his other arm around my waist as the kiss grows deeper. I throw caution to the wind and wrap my own arms around his neck. I let out a soft moan as he sticks his tongue in my mouth.
He slowly pushes me back against the sofa and he slowly climbs on top of me. The kiss becomes more passionate as he rubs his hands all over my body. Onyx definitely knows how to make me feel good. If this is the same technique he uses with Mandy, no wonder she doesn’t wanna let him go.
“ONYX!” His mom yells from downstairs. “Do you and Starr want some cookies?”
“No mom, we’re good. Thanks,” he says.
I push him off me because this isn’t the time or the place. I mean, his mom is right downstairs. He looks at me with this lustful smile on his face.
“I knew you wanted me,” he said.
“Shut up!”
I can’t help but smile though because for the first time in forever, I am ready to admit that he is right. I do want him. But how can a relationship between the two of us work and our friendship doesn’t get affected?
“Starr I’m serious. How long are you going to deny your feelings for me?”
“What difference does that make? You’re with Mandy and I’m with Freddy,” I say.
“Two obstacles that can be easily taken care of with two phone calls. Tell me this; does Freddy make you feel the way you were just feeling with me? If your answer is yes, I will leave this whole fantasy of mine alone and just leave things between us as best friends. So does he? Does he make your insides quiver and your toes curl the way I just did?” He asks as he touches me, sending another shiver to flow down my spine. My bottom lip is trembling because I want to kiss him again. I have to bite down on it to keep it from running away from my face.
“You don’t have to answer me because I already know the answer. Guess what,” he says.
“What?” I manage to ask.
“I’ve never felt this way with Mandy either; not once. The whole time we’ve been dating and having sex, not once did she ever make me feel this way. When I’m with you, I feel whole. I feel like my other half is complete. Hold up,” he says and leaves the room. He is gone for about three minutes when he returns with a little box. He hands the box to me and smiles.
“What is this for?”
“Open it,” he says.
I open the box and remove the top cotton lining. It’s a beautiful locket and a key. On top of the locket reads BFF and the key says Forever. I pull them out and they are hanging from a pretty silver chain.
“Read the back of the locket,” he says.
I turn the delicate locket over in my hand and it reads, I Love U. I look at him and I don’t know where they came from, but tears began to roll down my cheeks. This man is unbelievable. I can’t believe he got this for me.
“Thank you so much. It’s beautiful!” I tell him as I fall into his arms, hugging him tightly.
“You’re welcome,” he says happily.
“How long have you had this?”
“Since the day after we first kissed. I knew when I kissed you that I was in love with you, I am in love with you. I was hoping that it wouldn’t take you forever to feel the same way about me as I do about you. But I kept it to give to you whenever you decided to come to your senses,” he says laughing.
“Oh so I was senseless huh?”
“Yea, kinda. You want me to put it on you?”
“Yes please,” I say as I turn my back towards him and lift up my hair. He places the locket around my neck and secures the fastener. I turn to look at him and he is smiling so hard.
“Go look in the mirror,” he says.
I get up from the sofa and go to the mirror. As I stand and look at myself in the mirror, the necklace is so beautiful. It actually brings out a sparkle in my eyes that I didn’t even know I had.
I turn to Onyx and he’s standing behind me, smiling.
“It looks just as I imagined it would on you. It’s beautiful and you’re beautiful,” he says.
I walk closer to him and wrap my arms around him tightly. I can’t believe that I’ve been out here dating, looking for something in someone else that has always been here in my face. My best friend has always been the one for me; he’s honest, trustworthy and he’s in love with me. The more I think about how I feel, the more I realize that I love him too. As I lock my lips with his, he happily receives them. His arms wrap around my waist and mine around the back of his neck as we seal our love.
We almost forgot that we weren’t alone in the house until his brother clears his throat. We hurriedly pull apart as we turn to see him smiling at us.
“About time y’all get y’all swerve on,” his brother says.
“Whatever man,” Onyx says.
“No man, seriously. I’m glad that the two of y’all have finally decided to be together. I’ve seen the changes in your relationship for the past couple of years now and was wondering how long it would take y’all to come to y’all senses. Y’all make the perfect couple and I’m extremely happy for y’all,” he says as he steps to us and gives us both a hug.
“Thanks bro but in my defense, it wasn’t me. Starr was the one that wanted to proceed with caution on this one,” Onyx says.
“I don’t blame her. You two have been friends way too long to just jump into something y’all ain’t ready for. But, I can tell that y’all are ready now because the of you look super happy,” he says.
“We are,” Onyx says as he puts his arm around my shoulder, pulling me close.
“Well, I’ll holla at y’all later. I’m getting ready to drive back to school,” he says.
“Aight bro. Be careful,” Onyx says.
“I will,” he says and leaves the room.
“Hey,” I say to Onyx.
“Wassup,” he looks at me revealing his perfectly white teeth.
“I love you too,” I say.
I might as well admit it. The truth is I have been feeling something for Onyx for a long time now but I was just too afraid to bring it to the surface. Now that he’s admitted it, I might as well admit it too. Now that I’ve said it, it feels really good to have it out in the open.
“And I know this Maaaaannnnnnn!” he says as we break into laughter.
Once our laughter has subsided, he says, “I’m breaking up with Mandy first thing in the morning. I want the whole world to know that I love you.”
I can’t help but smile when he says this. I hated seeing that bitch with Onyx and now I know it was because I’ve wanted him for myself the whole time the two of them were together. I hope I’m around when he breaks up with her, just so I can see the look on her face. I really wanna see the look on her face when she sees the two of us walking the halls together, hand in hand, as a couple. Oh my God! Her weave is going to catch on fire; that’s how heated she is going to be.
“I’ll break
up with Freddy too,” I say.
“Thank God. I was tired seeing you with that old tired ass nigga,” he says.
“No as tired as I was of seeing you with that bitch,” I say.
My phone begins to ring and I look at the caller ID and its Freddy.
“Shhiiiddd! Ain’t no time like the present for you to give that nigga his walking papers,” Onyx says.
I almost didn’t answer the phone, but I do because Onyx is right. He needs to know and ain’t no time like the present.
“Hello,” I answer.
“Hey what you doing?”
“I’m over at Onyx’s house going over the plans for my mom’s party,” I say.
“I told you I was going to help you with that shit,” he says and I immediately hear the aggravation in his voice.
“I told you that he was going to help me.”
I am aggravated as well. I wanted to ask how he was feeling today but he has me not giving a fuck how he feels right now. He has me wanting to rush off the damn phone with him.
“You don’t fuckin’ listen. After what that nigga did to me yesterday, you still fuckin’ with that nigga huh? You just gon’ disrespect me and my feelings huh?”
“You played a part in what happened to you yesterday. If you had not gotten in his face like that, he never would have fought with you. He wouldn’t have had a reason to,” I say.
I find it funny how when people fight or get their ass beat, they see everything that the other person did to get things started, but don’t see nothing that they did. I can’t believe he doesn’t see that this was his fault just as much as Onyx’s, if not more. Onyx clearly asked him at least twice to fall back but instead of falling back, he got closer in Onyx’s face.
“So you’re blaming me? You’re taking that nigga’s side!”
“Look, I think we should see other people,” I finally say.
“What are you saying? That you wanna break up so you can start seeing that nigga?”
“I’m saying that I don’t want to be your girlfriend anymore,” I say.
