  The boat bounced against the dock and Jenner jumped off before the ropes were secured. He turned to spread his arms to catch Ranik, but he’d already hopped off and was dashing down the pier. Jenner caught up and the two bumped into each other, laughing.

  Aysha leaned against Darin. She wasn’t certain the Isles were where she was meant to be, but she was with Darin. Nothing else mattered.

  “I like how it smells.” Darin inhaled deeply. “Beets.”

  Aysha laughed. “After the dunes, I’ve never thought of beets the same since. What else do you smell?”

  “Gulls and fish mostly, but someone’s roasting nuts.” She took another breath and then pulled Aysha closer. “And your scent—same as that first morning in your barn—warm honey.”

  “Desire.” Aysha turned to meet Darin’s lips.
