  “Can you elaborate?”

She shook her head and averted her gaze.

Mason placed a finger under her chin, and she lifted her gaze to meet his again. “Old boyfriend bothering you?”

How did he know? She tried to rein in her reaction, but it was too late. He’d seen it.

  “Are you still seeing him?”

“God no. It’s been over for two months.”

“Then why is he still harassing you?”

Harper swallowed hard, but it didn’t stop fresh tears from spilling over her lids. “I don’t know. It just started.”

“Are we talking voice mails? Phone calls? E-mails? Or something else?”

She was about to reach up and wipe her tears, but Lee beat her to it. She caught his hand and kissed it. “Thank you. E-mails and Facebook.”

“All right,” said Mason. “Block him. It’s that simple.”

It’s not that simple. “I did that last night.”

“Then it’s over, unless you have more e-mail addresses or Facebook accounts. What about Twitter or other social media? Block him on all of it.”

She shook her head. “No. That’s it. He’s blocked from everything I could block him from.” It wouldn’t matter. He knew she was living in Racy and working at Notus.

“Then you can still see us, right?”

Mason looked so hopeful that the last of Harper’s resolved drifted away like the wisp of a forgotten dream. She was drawn to these two. She had been since yesterday morning, when they’d rescued her from the demon coffeemaker.

“Is there some other reason you think you can’t?” asked Lee.

She shrugged. “I feel…I don’t know. Like I might be trouble for you two.” That was the best way she could say what she wanted to without giving away anything, but she knew by their twin chuckles that it had come out all wrong.

“With a capital T,” said Lee, “but we like it that way.” He rose, leaned across the table, and kissed her. Not a quick kiss. He shoved his tongue into her mouth, and Harper moaned as she reached for him. When he released her mouth, he cupped her face. “Now you listen to me, Harper Montgomery. This old boyfriend is history. We won’t let him bother you. Understand? And you’re good trouble for us, not bad trouble. Okay? Are you listening to me?”

She nodded because she didn’t trust her voice right now.

“If he contacts you again, tell us.” Mason held her gaze, and the command in both his voice and his expression made her nod again. She wanted to obey him. She had to obey him. Was this what it was like when he was in Dom mode? When they both were? She liked it. No, that wasn’t right. She loved it.

The dominance of his aura sent shivers up and down her spine. It would be so easy right now to tell them both everything, but what could they actually do? And she didn’t want Dennis knowing about them. She would not place them in harm’s way.

Mason hadn’t broken eye contact yet. “Do you understand? We want to know if he contacts you again.”

  “Yes. Okay.”

Mason finally smiled, and then he rose as well. She stood and came around the table to relax into his arms. It felt so good to be there. Thoughts of Dennis, the e-mails she’d found before blocking him, and the Facebook posts she’d deleted off her wall faded away as Mason kissed her. She wrapped her arms around his broad shoulders, moaning again when Lee’s hands brushed her ass cheeks.

Lee nuzzled her neck as Mason released the kiss and looked into her eyes. “You know, this entire floor is empty.”

Harper snorted softly, not because of what he’d said, but from nervousness. It was too close to the stolen moments she and Dennis had started out with. First it had been an empty floor, and then when that filled up they’d progressed to empty offices. It had been exciting and dangerous, and Harper had been so flattered. That is, until she began to realize that without the element of risk, Dennis couldn’t deliver. Their sex life outside the office was as flat as the state in which she now lived.

Lee grabbed her ass again. “No, really. It’s completely empty. No one comes up here. Notus is moving more engineers up here, but not until fall, at the earliest.”

She didn’t see the point in telling him that’s not why she’d made that noise. “I believe you, but I’ve been gone from my desk long enough. I have to get back. It’s only my second day, and Maggie has a lot of faith in me. I don’t want to disappoint her.” She told them about being appointed the liaison for the joint project with Giolanna Design Solutions.

“Wow, that’s great,” said Lee. “Annalise is a sub as well, to Dustin Alexander, one of the veterinarians in town, and Chad Bristol. He’s one of the police detectives.”

“I’d wondered whether she was in the lifestyle.”

“You’ll be among all our friends,” said Mason. He pulled her close again. “I don’t want to let you go, but you’re right. You’d better get back.” He released the embrace and gazed into her eyes. “But you owe us something for all this drama, and because we now have to go back to work with blue balls.”

That made her laugh. How could she help it? These two had taken what seemed like an impossible situation, and turned it into something fun and spontaneous. They almost made her believe that Dennis would leave her alone now. “Oh, really?”

  “Yes, really.”

  “What do I owe you?”

He cut his gaze toward Lee for a second, then grinned in a way that made her pussy wet. “Come to Maddox’s club with us Friday night.”

She imagined being inside a real BDSM club with them, tied up and then spanked and paddled by both men. They’d have to blindfold her because she’d be too self-conscious. But every fantasy she’d ever had came crashing in at once, and she knew there was no question of whether she’d agree to go. She had to. She’d waited her entire adult life to experience it. “Okay.”

Lee pumped his fist in the air. “Yes!”

Mason high-fived him, and then he kissed Harper again. When he released it, he leaned close to her ear and whispered, “Thank you.”

Lee pulled her close and kissed her as well, and then he asked her again to have lunch with them.

“I brought mine today.” If you could call the peanut butter and jelly sandwich and apple she’d thrown into a brown paper bag “lunch.”

“That’s okay. We’ll grab something from the deli downstairs and eat with you. I’ll PM you. Okay?”

  “There’s a deli downstairs?”

“Yes. And they make better food than you had yesterday.”

She smiled and nodded. “Okay. It’s a date. And I’ll join you to buy something from downstairs because I didn’t bring much.” She walked to the stairwell with them, holding their hands, wondering how they’d done this. Not only was she still seeing them, but she’d made a commitment to play at a BDSM club with them on Friday. What a crazy morning this had already been. Harper couldn’t wait to see what the rest of the day brought.

  Chapter Seven

Harper enjoyed sitting in the crowded deli with Lee and Mason, as much because of the admiring looks both men received from so many of the women, as the food. It was definitely better than what she’d brought, and miles above the lunch she’d had the day before. The hour went by far too quickly, and she was so busy the rest of the afternoon that she forgot all about Dennis.

Lee and Mason asked her to have dinner with them again, but she said she didn’t want to eat another big meal like the one at Gino’s had been. She also didn’t think she could handle Nan’s Place so soon after the road kill at lunch the day before. As much as she’d heard about the warm, friendly atmosphere, greasy food didn’t set well with her.

“I have an idea,” she said. “Why don’t I cook for you two? Nothing fancy. I have some chicken, and could make something quick and easy like a veggie and pasta dish with it.”

“That sounds great,” said Mason. “But wait…didn’t you say you were looking at houses today after work?”

“I changed my mind. It’ll be easier to do
what when I have hours and hours of free time.” She hadn’t had any plans to look at houses. She’d only said that because she wasn’t sure what to expect from these two the morning after. Now that she realized they weren’t out to hurt her, there was no reason to avoid them or give them silly excuses.

Mason nodded. “Let us know if you have any questions about neighborhoods or streets. We’ve lived here all our lives.”

“Thank you. That’s good to know.”

She had dinner ready by the time the men arrived after work, and when they spread out a plat map of the city for her afterwards, she laughed.

“Did you think we were kidding?” asked Lee.

  “Where did you get this?”

He winked, and she wondered how much sex a person could actually have in one week and still walk. She hoped to find out. “We have friends in the courthouse.”

“We have friends everywhere,” said Mason. He pointed out various streets and subdivisions, explaining how old each one was, who lived there, and what condition the homes and condos were in. “Your best bets, depending on whether you’re looking for a house or a condo, are the townhomes on Lilac Way or the new complex going up on the next street. The townhomes are older, but not as old as the condos on Turbine Trail, and they’re big. The new condos look stunning, but of course they’re also expensive.”

“A condo sounds good. I’m not sure I want to take on a house and yard by myself.”

He nodded. “I get that. Lots of upkeep. But if you’re looking for a solid house that won’t break you, there are some very nice ones for sale over here, on Oak Street and on Honey Locust Lane.”

“This is so helpful. Thank you.”

“It’s tough to move to a new town and not know anything or anyone.”

  She nodded.

“Why did you leave Tray Industries? Everyone is speculating.”

“Oh, are they?” She wiped her palms on her jeans because they were suddenly damp.

“Only in general terms. The consensus seems to be that Maggie stole you away.”

She had no problem letting others believe that. “What do you two think is the reason I left?”

“I think there’s a bit more to the story than you’ve told anyone.”

She actually liked it that Mason was so blunt. He was the kind of man that would never leave a girl wondering exactly where she stood. How refreshing.

“For instance, there’s the question of this old boyfriend. Who was he? Someone you worked with, perhaps?”

She studied his face for a few seconds, debating. She trusted them. There was no question of that. It would be comforting to tell this story to someone. But she didn’t want them hurt, and until she knew how Dennis had found her, she had to keep distance between him and these two men. “It was a fling, nothing more.” Not exactly a lie. Their time outside of work was infrequent and unfulfilling. The only time they related well to each other was when they were sneaking sex inside the building where they were both employed.

Lee frowned. “If that’s true, why is he e-mailing you again after two months?”

Shit. These two were too smart for that, and she was far too transparent. “I wish I knew.” That was the complete truth.

He nodded. “Okay. We didn’t bring it up again to give you grief about it. But we are curious about why you left Tray. Are people right? Did Maggie steal you away?”

“I approached Maggie on my own about possible positions. I was ready for a change.” Also the truth.

“I see. Well, all right then. Let’s change the subject. Do you even know where to buy groceries here in Racy?”

Harper laughed as they made small talk about the shops in town and in the surrounding area. She was so relaxed and at ease with them, and was surprised when Mason yawned. He apologized, and then explained that neither man had slept more than a couple hours the night before.

“Oh, neither did I. Plus, I want to save all my energy for Friday night.”

The sexy looks on their faces made her spirits soar. Each man kissed her again, thanked her for dinner, and then they were gone. Harper had deliberately left her phone in the other room during dinner, and she waited until she’d washed the dishes and straightened up her tiny apartment before checking it. Nothing new.

She slept soundly that night, and when she woke to a new text message, her heart sank until she read it.

Good morning. Thank you again for dinner last night. Lunch today in the deli again?

It was from Lee, and there was one from Mason as well. She laughed when she opened the sexy cartoon he’d sent her. He’d also told her that they were driving her to work. She texted back and told him she’d be ready.

Maybe the e-mails and Facebook posts were truly over? Maybe he’d made one desperate attempt to upset her online, and when it hadn’t worked, Dennis had given up and would now move on?

As Harper showered and dressed for work, she wished she believed that.

  * * * *

Lee knew something was wrong as soon as Harper came into the deli. She also looked like she’d been crying again. He poked Mason in the ribs, and when Mason followed his gaze, his expression grew dark.

“This is ridiculous,” he said in a soft voice. “We need to find out what’s going on so we can help her.”

“I agree.” Enough was enough. Lee didn’t care why she’d left Tray, but he’d bet his right nut that it had something to do with the ex-boyfriend. Why was this guy bothering her after two months? He didn’t believe Harper had lied to them about that. But what happened that had started this? Why now, if she’d been gone that length of time already?

Lee placed an arm across her shoulder as she walked up to them, standing in line. “You okay?” he asked quietly. No sense in giving anyone around them a reason to gossip, but all a person had to do was look into her eyes and they’d realize that she was far from okay.

“I’ll tell you later,” she mouthed.

That was good, right? It meant she was finally going to tell them what was going on. At least, he hoped that’s what it meant. Once they had their food, he asked if she wanted to find a more private place to eat, but she declined.

“I never eat and talk about bad things at the same time.”

“That’s a good rule,” said Mason. “Keeps you from having indigestion.”

She smiled, but the emotion didn’t reach her eyes. Clearly things were not right. After lunch, she waited until they were alone in an elevator on the way back upstairs, and asked if they thought it was safe to talk on six.

“Absolutely. Can you get back a bit late without anyone noticing?”

She nodded. “Maggie is in meetings all afternoon. She won’t know, and no one else in the department watches the clock. It’s so much more relaxed here than it was at Tray.”

“Yeah. It’s a pretty mellow place.”

They got off on five, only because there were others getting off as well, and it would have looked odd for them to continue on to six since no one worked up there yet. They took the stairs, and once they were on the floor, Lee led them to the nearest empty office and perched on the desk. “You want me to grab chairs?”

Harper shook her head, but Mason was already out the door. He came back with three, and they all sat down. Lee watched her face, wishing he could do something to take away the worry on it. He hated this for her, and it was especially disheartening because he had no idea what was going on. “Okay. We’re alone. Tell us what’s going on. Let us help you.”

She took several slow, deep breaths. “You guessed right. He was a co-worker, but not in my department. He was a supervisor in accounting.”

  “But not your direct supervisor.”

  “No. No, he wasn’t.”

“So that’s not why you left.”

She finally looked them both in the eyes. “I wasn’t fired. I chose to leave. But he was fired.”

“Will you tell us his name?” asked Mason, softly.

“I don’t want you two hurt by him.”

Mason shook his head. “That is not going to happen. We’re not afraid of him. Give us a name.”

  “Dennis. Dennis Avery.”

  “Thank you.”

  “What happened?” asked Lee.

“It started off as a fling. Stolen moments in empty offices, kissing in the elevator, things like that. But then the risk became greater. He needed that. It was like a drug to him. We didn’t do much outside the office. He wasn’t married or anything like that, but he wasn’t interested in an actual relationship. I didn’t realize that at first.”

She smoothed down nonexistent wrinkles in her skirt. “I thought the reasons he gave me seemed legit, until we went on a few dates outside of work, and they were disasters. He looked bored, or kept checking his phone. But then we’d be back at work and everything would seem fine. I was confused for months, and buried my head in the sand. I didn’t want to see what was right in front of me.”

She took another deep breath and watched them both carefully. Lee wished he had the magic words to make her understand that they would never betray this information. “It’s not like I’ve had a lot of boyfriends. I was flattered by all the attention. But then the bottom fell out when I discovered I wasn’t the only one he was literally screwing around with inside the building. Things got ugly after that. Very quickly.”

Lee took her hands, which were alarmingly cool. “I’m sorry.”

She let out a quick breath that moved her bangs. “Me, too, but not because I loved him or anything like that. It was exciting at first. Not too many men I’ve dated wanted to have sex with me all the time like that, you know?”

  “Crazy idiots,” muttered Mason.

She almost smiled. “Thank you. But it’s true. Dennis couldn’t get enough of me, but that’s really all he wanted. And he’d make comments about my weight which really hurt, but I kept trying to eat right and exercise. I thought if I lost some weight he’d want to date me more outside of work.”

Mason made a sound of disgust. “I think I need to take a trip up to Michigan and find this asshole.”
