by Tara Rose

How could she have a relationship—especially a BDSM relationship—with these men while Dennis was still out there? How on earth would this ever be over? And what would she do if the e-mails or Facebook posts started up again?

She rose and walked down the hallway, absorbing the energy in the house. She’d never lived in such a quiet, comfortable place. It was decorated in such a way that made her wonder if he’d hired someone to do it. If he hadn’t, he had real talent. Most of the pieces were obviously expensive, and some were probably antiques. It was still hard to fathom that she lived here now.

Everything was happening so fast. She didn’t regret what she’d done last night or Monday with Lee and Mason. Not at all. But she was worried about how Dennis’s presence in Racy would eventually affect both men. Had moving in here with them on the spur of the moment been the wisest decision?

Harper wandered through the rooms, admiring the fabrics and the logic to the decorating in each room. She loved being here. Yes, the decision had been spontaneous, but it didn’t feel wrong. Not even in the depths of her soul. It felt right. Living here with Lee and Mason felt perfect.

It felt like she belonged here. That certainty was so strong, as if she’d been waiting for these two all her life. But was that enough on which to build a relationship? Had she merely swapped an office fling for this? No. It couldn’t be. Then again, she didn’t exactly have a track record for taking relationships slowly.

But Lee and Mason weren’t anything like the others, and certainly not like Dennis. They didn’t insult her, for one thing. Dennis had thought he was being so surreptitious in the way he’d sneak in comments about her weight, but he wasn’t. They stung like crazy. Lee and Mason, on the other hand, thought she was the sexiest woman they’d ever seen.

They made her feel alive and beautiful in so many ways. They cared about her safety, and they wanted her happy. They’d worked so hard last night to make sure she was enjoying herself, and to ensure her fantasies were met. Dennis had never once asked if she was enjoying the sex, or if she wanted to do anything differently. Not once.

Harper shook her head. She hadn’t thought about that until just now. The sex had all been one-sided. He’d been so damn arrogant that he’d always just assumed she loved it. Lee and Mason went out of their way to make sure she did, and she hadn’t expected that.

They went out of their way to make sure she enjoyed everything they did together, and they weren’t ashamed to take her out in public. They were everything she’d ever wanted the men she’d dated to be. How could this not be right? She’d waited her entire life for these two men.

When she heard their voices calling her, she made her way back to the main hallway again. Both men were freshly showered with damp hair, and dressed in jeans and sweaters. They looked so damn yummy and so sexy, and they had their glasses on again as well. She smiled and approached them both, holding out her arms.

Mason pulled her close first. “Did you get lost?”

His voice was filled with the usual humor, and a shiver ran down her spine. Everything would be okay. She felt certain of it. “Almost. This home is incredible. Did you decorate it yourself?”

He shook his head. “I have an aunt who lives for that sort of thing. She did most of it.”

He released the embrace and Lee took her hand. “Are you ready to see your new town through the eyes of two jaded natives?”

She couldn’t help but laugh. His face held no trace of the earlier worry she’d glimpsed in the kitchen. Whatever had been going on, it was gone now. “Are you two jaded? That’s not good. I was hoping for a tour from two residents who loved this place.”

“Fat chance.” His grin didn’t match his words, and she sighed. She loved Lee’s humor as much as she loved Mason’s more serious demeanor. They complemented each other well, and it was such a rush having the best of both of them at times like this. How could she give this up? She couldn’t. There was no way.

“Well, all right then. I’ll take the slightly cynical tour. It’ll be more interesting that way.”

“Exactly,” said Mason. “No unicorns or rainbows.”

They drove downtown and parked in the lot behind Nan’s Place, then walked along Market Street. “It’s amazing how much progress they made in just a week.” Except for Busler’s, the remainder of the restored buildings were close to completion. More so than when she’d first moved here. “Will Luke relocate his bar back on this street when they’re done?”

Mason shook his head. “I don’t think so. He bought the new place and I think he likes it there. He has more space and a real parking lot.”

“But my favorite donuts are gone,” said Lee. “There’s a rumor the bakery is going to reopen soon. I hope that’s true. I miss my damn donuts.”

“Can’t you buy donuts someplace else?” she asked.

  “Not like he made.”

“Is the same person opening the bakery once it’s repaired?”

  “Sadly, no. Dan Rutherford retired.”

“Then the donuts won’t taste the same,” said Mason.

  “Not the point.”

“Then what is the point? Dan made them from scratch. Unless he comes back from his daughter’s home in Florida and reopens his bakery, the donuts someone else makes won’t be the same.”

  “Fuck you.”

Harper laughed until her sides hurt. “Why do guys do that? When you can’t win an argument, you just start swearing at each other.”

“Dude talk,” said Lee, winking at her.

Mason gave him a droll look. “Dude talk?”

  “Fuck you.”

She was still laughing when they strolled down Riverfront and walked into Luke’s Bar. She loved it immediately. It wasn’t fancy, but the ambiance was friendly and warm. Voices called them over, and Harper waved when she spotted Kari and Alexa sitting with others.

Before they reached the table, a tall man with dark hair and big dark eyes came out from behind the bar to greet the three. He wiped his hands on an apron that used to be white then stuck out his hand. “Luke Rodriguez. Welcome to my place.”

Mason rubbed her left shoulder. “This is Harper Montgomery.”

Harper shook Luke’s hand, then glanced over his shoulder as a woman with dark hair and dark eyes identical to Luke’s walked over, a big smile on her face.

  “This is my sister, Ria.”

“Hi. Nice to meet you.” She glowed, and it was then that Harper remembered Annalise, Gina, and Olivia talking about how Ria had just found out she’s pregnant.

“Nice to meet you, too. Maggie speaks so highly of you.”

“Your sister is awesome to work for.”

Ria pointed toward twins who strolled over from the table where the others sat. “This is Trent Rohan. He’s a paramedic. And Wyatt is one of our public defenders.”

Harper shook their hands, and then Luke and Ria said they needed to get back to work. Mason and Lee led her to the table, which was actually two they’d pushed together. Trent and Wyatt took their seats, and then Kari and Alexa introduced their respective Doms. Chase Taylor was a name she’d heard before, and it was obvious that Lee and Mason knew Noah Wells and Addison Kincaid quite well.

Julie, Maddox, and Sean were there, and they all said hello again to Harper. Then the guys introduced her to Marisol, Ellis, and Rafe. She knew Olivia, but hadn’t yet met Storm or Cameron. She was introduced to Zach and Harrison, and she’d already met Gina, Annalise, Chad, and Dustin. The last triad she met was Cherilyn Barker and her Doms Thayer Denning and Evan Rydell.

“Dean give all his detectives the night off?” asked Mason, glancing around.

Chad held up a cell phone. “Sean and I are both on call. Let’s hope nothing comes up tonight.”

It was then that Harper noticed they were the only two without an alcoholic drink in front of them. She wanted to ask if they’d spotted Dennis’s car, but this wasn’t the time or place.

“Dean Ramsey is our chief of police,” said Lee. />
“How do you like it here in Racy?” asked Cherilyn.

  “I love it.”

“You must have lived in a boring town, then.”

Everyone laughed, but Harper shook her head. “Not at all. I love the peace and quiet here. And I love how everyone knows everyone else. It makes me feel safe.”

“You won’t like everyone knowing everyone else when you realize that nothing in your life will ever be private again,” said Annalise, smiling.

Marisol frowned in Lee and Mason’s direction. “Peace and quiet? Have you two told her some of the shit that’s gone down here?”

“We have,” said Mason. “But she lived in a Detroit suburb before moving here.”

They nodded and voiced understanding, and then they asked questions about her family and whether she was originally from Detroit. Ria brought pitchers of beer and other drinks to their table and stayed to join the conversation, but as the bar became busier, she only stopped to talk for a few moments each time. Harper couldn’t help but feel jealous of the concerned and adoring looks Trent and Wyatt both gave her each time. They patted her still-flat belly, whispered in her ear, and it was obvious they were both so much in love with her, and she with them.

Would she have that with Lee and Mason one day? Was it even possible?

As the evening wore on, she relaxed into the moment and enjoyed the easy banter around the table. These people knew each other so well, and it was obvious that many of them were good friends. When there were no more empty tables in the bar, Alexa rose and went behind the bar to help.

Lee leaned close to explain. “She helps out when he’s short-handed or when things get crazy.”

“And she has her own business, too? That’s amazing.”

“That’s my bestie,” said Kari, raising her glass. “She was like that in New York, too. Always working hard and willing to help whenever she was needed.”

“You lived in New York? I didn’t realize that.”

“For fifteen years. I left Racy right after I graduated from high school, and met Alexa while working in a fetish shop in Chelsea.”

“Why on earth did you come back?”

The quick look that passed over Kari’s face made Harper wish she hadn’t asked. She was about to say that she didn’t need to know, but Kari beat her to the punch. “It’s a long story, but short version…I witnessed a rape and murder behind the shop where Alexa and I worked, and I was in fear for my life because he saw me.”

Harper watched her eyes as she continued, wondering how she could stay so calm about such a thing. She told the story in a flat, matter-of-fact voice.

“I was supposed to go back for his trial but he escaped while being transported to a psych facility, and he showed up here. He broke into our shop and…” Kari grabbed Adison’s hand on her right and Noah’s on her left. “He tried to rape me, but Adison shot him.”

  “Holy shit…”

“Yeah. Marisol wasn’t kidding. We’ve had some serious stuff happen here.”

  “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have asked.”

Kari shook her head. “No, please don’t apologize. You didn’t know. And it’s over now. But if I never see Manhattan again, that’s okay with me.”

Harper closed her eyes for a brief second as Lee massaged her upper back. Mason took her hand and gave it a quick squeeze. She knew she hadn’t done anything wrong in asking Kari why she’d left New York, but she couldn’t help make comparisons between what Kari had gone through and her current situation.

She’d been fretting over a car cruising up and down a street, and a few e-mails and Facebook posts. This woman had witnessed a violent crime, and then the man who’d committed it had come after her and almost done the same thing to her, in her own home. True bravery was sitting right across the table from her.

The conversation turned to other topics and Harper joined in when she could, but her mind was reeling. Why the hell was she so afraid of Dennis? She was not going to let some jerk of a guy ruin the best thing that had ever happened to her.

Let him drive up and down the streets of Racy. This was her town now. She wasn’t going to let him intimidate her any longer. And if he e-mailed her again from a different account, or his silly girlfriends did, she’d forward those to Sean as well. Let the FBI handle this. She didn’t have to.

The people around this table had courage and strength that she admired, and that she knew was inside her as well. All she had to do was let it show. She was done being afraid of Dennis Avery and his band of groupies. Let him dare to show his face. She’d stand up to him and his ridiculous friends. She knew now that she could, and she knew that she’d come out the true winner.

  Chapter Fifteen

By the time Harper returned to Mason’s house with him and Lee, she was so high from the epiphany she’d had after Kari had told her story, that she felt drunk even though she wasn’t. She’d nursed only one beer the entire evening. The guys asked if she was hungry, but she told them she wasn’t. The burgers and onion rings they’d each eaten at Luke’s hadn’t quite digested yet.

She wanted them both. Now. In every room in this big, gorgeous house. They started up the stairs, but she hung back. “Sirs? I have an idea.”

They both turned around with identical grins on their faces, and she could barely take a full breath. “What is it?” asked Lee. “What’s swirling around in that pretty head of yours?”

  “Role play.”

Mason raised his brows and took a few steps toward her. “I’m intrigued. Tell us more.”

“You know that short skirt and sheer blouse we bought at Tye Me Up? And the wooden paddle you two used on me at the club?”

They exchanged a glance, and Harper didn’t need to look at their crotches to know they were aroused by the idea. “Where would you like to do this?” asked Lee. “Upstairs, or someplace else?”

She shrugged. “I don’t know. Is there a room in this house that resembles something like an executive’s office?”

Mason chuckled softly and nodded. “Yep. I have just the place. Run upstairs and change. Do you have pumps you can wear?”

“Yes. I have something that will work well.”

They each gave her ass a hard smack as she sprinted past them up the stairs.

“No underwear,” called Mason. “And no hose.”

“Wait for us at the bottom of these stairs when you’re done,” said Lee.

  “Yes, Sir.”

By the time she came downstairs, the guys were waiting for her. They hadn’t changed their clothes, but that was fine. They both looked sexy as hell no matter what they wore. Every nerve ending was on fire. This was even more exciting than being inside the club.

Mason crooked his finger at her. “This way. Once we step inside the study, we’ll slip into our roles. All your safewords will apply. Do you understand?”

“Yes, Sir.” She followed him down the hall, and they turned left down a corridor she’d hadn’t seen before.

“You’re a new secretary at our company,” said Lee. “And we’re your bosses.”

Harper giggled. “What did I do wrong?”

“You’ll find out when we get there.” His gaze roamed over her, sending shivers up and down her spine because of the molten lust in it. “By the way, you look perfect. Thank you for this.”

“You’re welcome, Sir. Thank you. Both of you.” She felt wanton and beyond sexy with no underwear on, and she was glad they approved of the black pumps. She’d only worn them once because they were so nice. She was always afraid of scuffing them.

The blouse they’d bought her was light purple and practically see-through. She currently had only the top button undone, but surely they could tell she wasn’t wearing a bra. The skirt was gray and short, so all she had to do was bend over a bit and they’d see her bare ass.

When they reached the room into which the guys led her, she inhaled the scent of leather and old money. It looked exactly like an executive office would appear in a movie, and Harpe
r couldn’t help but smile. It was perfect.

Bottled water, a tube of lube, and entire box of condoms sat on the credenza, and next to that was the wooden paddle they’d used on her last night, as well as other toys she hadn’t yet seen. They must have gone up the back stairs while she was in her room and retrieved all this. She nearly squealed again because she could barely contain her eagerness. They’d thought of everything. The fact that they’d gone to all this trouble to give her this fantasy sent her heart fluttering.

Lee whispered close to her ear. “Showtime. Go back outside and knock. When you come in, slip into your role. All safewords apply. Do you remember them from last night?”

“Yes, Sir.” Harper skipped outside and waited until they’d closed the door again. She took a few deep breaths, trying to put a serious look on her face, but it was impossible. She was beyond excited about this.

She knocked on the door, and Mason’s voice called for her to come in. As soon as she crossed the threshold, she sensed the change in both men. They wore dour expressions. Mason sat in the leather chair behind the desk, and Lee was on the sofa, one ankle crossed over the opposite knee, as though they’d been discussing her.

“Miss Montgomery,” said Mason, pointing toward a straight-backed chair in front of his desk. “Come in. Sit down.”

“What did I do, Mr. Sinclair?”

“Sit down. We’re asking the questions this afternoon, not you.” His voice was hard, and even though she knew it was play-acting, she shivered just the same. He was so convincing.

Mason peered at her over the tops of his glasses, which was so damn sexy she nearly came. “You’re here because Mr. Parker and I received an alarming report that you sent out a letter with several mistakes in it to a very important client of ours.”

Harper had to bite back a laugh. This was so much fun, but it was also incredibly corny, like she was in a porno. But, she’d asked for this, and she wanted to make it fun for them.

Lee uncrossed his legs and leaned forward. “You find that funny?” His voice was filled with incredulity, and she decided to play along with the who-gives-a-shit brat angle.
