A Note on the Author
Marty Appel began his Yankee public relations career answering Mickey Mantle’s fan mail in 1968, and went on to serve as public-relations director and later as an Emmy Award–winning producer of Yankee telecasts on WPIX TV. He has written for Yankees magazine, MLB All-Star Game and World Series programs, Sports Collectors Digest, and he has appeared on the YES Network’s Yankeeography as well as on documentaries on ESPN, HBO, and MSG Network.
He is the author of eighteen books including the New York Times bestseller Munson: The Life and Death of a Yankee Captain; Now Pitching for the Yankees, a memoir; Slide, Kelly, Slide, the Casey Award–winning biography of Mike “King” Kelly; and collaborations with Bowie Kuhn, Lee MacPhail, Larry King, Tom Seaver, and umpire Eric Gregg.
Appel is president of Marty Appel Public Relations (www.AppelPR.com) and serves as magazine historian for the Baseball Hall of Fame’s Memories and Dreams.
He resides in New York City.
