Dear Solace,
Wow! I was deeply moved by your description of Cara’s birth and its effect on you. It sure beats my happiest memory by a long mile. Even though I met her only once, and then only briefly, I remember Cara very well. She seemed like a remarkable girl, and I’ll bet she became an even more remarkable woman.
And about the Gestation Units in Interon: We’re sure heading in that direction here, aren’t we? We’ve already got special incubators very similar to that. Though they’re only for emergency situations, I can easily see the day when people shift over to them fully in the name of safety and comfort.
How’s the heat there? Amazingly enough, it’s gotten considerably hotter here. Even the fishermen in this, one of the most fishingest towns in the United Realms, have taken to going out only early in the morning and late in the afternoon, when the sun’s low in the sky. The rest of the day, they’d simply bake out there on those little boats with the sunlight reflecting off the water as if it were sheet metal. Trade is faltering, and when that happens, you know things have gotten bad.
I hope all is well.
