He pulled her onto his lap and cupped her face in his palms. He kissed her briefly—a soft brush of lips that made her crave more. He gazed earnestly into her eyes. His love for her was open for her to see. The sweetest smile brightened her face.
“I love you, Rachel Melinda Cooper. With a depth and emotion that I can’t comprehend in my wildest dream. You are the breath I take. Your heart keeps me alive.”
“Wow, for an old-timer you have a way with words,” she teased with her cheeks glowing with pleasure. “You make me very happy, Mason. I never believed I would be capable of giving so much love to another, but with you it was easy. I want to . . . mmmm . . .”
Mason’s mouth on hers stopped the flow of words that were in a musical harmony to her flailing hands.
“Sometimes, sweetie, less is more. For now, I need to explore your gorgeous body.”
“Hmm, I hope you brought your blue pills with you. Ohhh! Mason,” she wailed in pleasure when he buried his face between her thighs.
“Like you would say my precious little chef—blue pills . . . my ass!”

PROLOGUE
The LIGHT House Christ-centered maternity care for teenagers, Kansas City.
14 February 2005—Valentine’s Day
“Take the child away.” The order was curt. Richard Lovett’s cold voice tore through Shanna’s heart.
“Daddy, please. Let me hold him. Just once,” she pleaded. Her eyes moved to the tiny bundle wrapped in the blue knitted blanket she had lovingly made herself a couple of months ago. She craved to catch a sight of the little boy she’d given birth to the previous day. Her heart had been beating wildly when one of the nurses agreed to bring him to her. It was nurse Bettie’s first day and she hadn’t been aware that the little boy had been given up for adoption. Or rather, forcibly, by Shanna’s father.
“My darling, you know it’s for the best not to get attached to the baby,” Marie Lovett tried to soothe her daughter’s distress. Her own hands were trembling when she wrapped the weeping teenager in her arms.
“Why can’t I keep him, Mom? He’s mine. My flesh and blood. It’s not the right thing to do to give him to strangers. I’m his mother! Please. I want to keep him,” Shanna sobbed into her mother’s chest.
“And who is the father, Shanna? I refuse to harbor a stranger in my house or give him my name. Can you imagine what it would do to my image in the political arena if your wantonness came out? It will mean the end of my career and I can kiss the chance of becoming the next State Senator goodbye.”
Her father seemed untouched by his daughter’s sorrow or his wife’s pleading look. Little did they know how hard it was for him to take the baby boy from his little girl. Shanna had always been his treasure. He loved her in the way only a father could his only daughter. Not allowing her the opportunity to give the same to her own child, tore at his heart. But, it was for the best. Apart from the negative impact it would have on his Political career, Shanna also had a bright future ahead of her. A baby at the age of eighteen would stand in her way to follow in his footsteps.
“If I tell you who the father is, would you let me keep him?” Shanna looked at her father with a flutter of hope in her heart.
Richard’s face remained impassive as he returned her stare enigmatically. He wasn’t sure he wanted to know. He would probably end up in jail for beating the bastard to a pulp. In his opinion, the boy was a coward. What man would leave a girl high and dry to face her parents alone with the news that she’d fallen pregnant halfway through her final year at school? Luckily Shanna had carried small and she’d been able to complete the year. That she’d managed to pass with honors, still amazed Richard. Not that it should have because Shanna had scored 165 on her Mensa IQ test when she was twelve years old—five points higher than Albert Einstein. She was a genius on all counts.
“It doesn’t really matter, does it, my girl? He’s obviously not interested in being a father or supporting you.” Richard shook his head. For the first time, Marie noticed the sadness in his eyes. “I’m afraid there’s no other way, Shanna. You can’t keep the child.”
“If you do this, things won’t ever be the same between us, Dad. I’m sorry and I know that you’re disappointed in me but if you take my child from me, I won’t be able to forgive you.”
“This is for the best, Shanna. Not only for me but for you. In time, you’ll realize that I’m right.”
“No. You’re wrong. This is morally wrong. You know that. You have always told me that human life is meant to be treasured. That we must protect and care those we love. How is taking my child from me treasuring me as someone you are supposed to protect and care for?”
“Shanna,” Richard cautioned her but the lump in his throat prevented him from voicing his protest. He pivoted around and walked toward the door where Nurse Bettie still hesitated with the baby in her arms. “Take him to his adoptive parents. They are waiting in the chapel.”
“Nooo! Daddy, please!”
Richard walked away. No one saw the tears that slowly trickled down his cheeks. The brief eye connection with the tiny baby when he’d walked past the nurse would forever be ingrained in his mind.

About the Author
“Isn’t it a universal truth that it’s our singular experiences and passion, for whatever thing or things, which molds us all into the individuals we become? Whether it's hidden in the depths of our soul or exposed for all to see?”
Linzi Basset is a South African born animal
rights supporter with a poet’s heart, and she is also a bestselling fiction writer of suspense filled romance erotica books; who as the latter, refuses to be bound to any one sub-genre. She prefers instead to stretch herself as a storyteller which has resulted in her researching and writing historical and even paranormal themed works.
Her initial offering: Club Alpha Cove, a BDSM club suspense series released back in 2015, reached Amazon’s Bestseller list, and she has been on those lists ever since. Labelling her as prolific is a gross understatement as just a few short years later she has now been published thirty-nine times; a total which fails to take into account the three other published works of her alter ego: Isabel James who co-authors—nor does it include the five additional new works marked for imminent release.
“I write from the inside out. My stories are both inside me and a part of me so it can be either pleasurable to release them or painful to carve them out. I live every moment of every story I write. So, if you're looking for spicy and suspenseful, I'm your girl . . . woman . . . writer . . . you know what I mean!"
Linzi believes that by telling stories in her own voice, she can better share with her readers the essence of her being: her passionate nature; her motivations; and her wildest fantasies. She feels every touch as she writes, every kiss, every harsh word uttered, and this to her is the key to a never-ending love of writing.
Ultimately, all books by Linzi Basset are about passion. To her, passion is the driving force of all emotion; whether it be lust, desire, hate, trust, or love. This is the underlying message contained in her books. Her advice: “Believe in the passions driving your desires; live them; enjoy them; and allow them to bring you happiness.”
