“Good to see you,” she said as she squeezed me. “Go ahead inside and go to the first room up the stairs to change. There will be clothes laid out on the bed for you.”

  “All right,” I chuckled.

Mary was so giddy, almost like she was a child again, that I couldn’t help but smile and laugh, feeling my nerves ease at least. She always did that to me though, lightening my mood, making me feel like I was at home when I was with her. I went to the first room up the stairs and walked inside, closing the door behind me. There was nothing special about the place, and Rob wasn’t hiding anywhere that I could see. I looked over on the bed and saw the clothes there waiting for me.

I sighed and changed my clothes, staring into the mirror as I did. He had put jeans, a T-shirt, a sweater, and tennis shoes out on display for me, and I had to say they were pretty close to what I would have picked out for myself. I double-checked my makeup in the mirror and then headed back down to the lobby. The driver was standing there with Miss Mary, waiting to take me to my next destination. Before I left, though, Mary gave me a big hug and kiss on the cheek. Whatever was going on, she must know all about it.

I went back out to the car and got in the back again, watching the driver shut the door and climb into the driver’s seat. We took off back down the driveway and made our way over to the lake. He didn’t drive very far, and I watched out the window as the sun began to set over the water in the background. I felt almost ten times better just being there, the place I considered my true home. It was so beautiful, and if Rob had planned it this way, he did a pretty good job, I had to admit.

Finally, the driver pulled up into a small gravel lot that bordered the lake. He got out and came around, opening the door and helping me out. I looked around, still not seeing Rob, and then back at the chauffeur.

“Follow the trail of petals around the beach,” he said, pointing down at the rose petals leading into the distance. “You’ll find your surprise at the end.”

“All right,” I chuckled, admittedly amazed at how thoroughly Rob had planned all this out. “He better be paying you well for this.”

“Always,” he smiled. “Have a good evening.”

“You too.” I smiled as he walked back around and got in the car.

I sighed and shook my head, still giddy, but not wanting to let on to that fact. I started down the trail, following the bright red rose petals down toward the beach. I looked out over the water at all the colors and felt a warmth in my chest, something that had been missing since the last time I had been here. As I turned the corner, I came to a small clearing, and there was Rob, surrounded by candles and red roses. He’d definitely gone all of the way with this one.

  Chapter Eighteen

  Rob

I was more nervous. Just plain and simple, I was nervous as hell. I wasn’t sure this would work, and I was driving myself crazy coming up with alternatives if it made me fall flat on my face. I knew that she cared. I could feel it; there was no way that she didn’t. I just had to convince her that we were right for each other. That, though, might be harder than I anticipated. I looked down at my watch and then back up as the car finally came into view.

I knew that she had agreed to come, since the driver had texted me, but I wasn’t expecting to feel so out of control with my emotions as she arrived. Miss Mary had called me right after Tiffany left the inn, having changed into the clothes I set out for her. She was such a sweet old lady and had wished me the best of luck. Normally that would comfort me, but it only made my mind turn even more. Was she calling to wish me luck because she knew it wouldn’t work? Or had she really just wanted to wish me luck? Now I understood what girls went through, analyzing every one of our movements.

I bent down and began lighting all of the candles I had sunk into the sand. It was a little breezy that day, but luckily, none of them blew out. Nevertheless, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to keep the candles lit the whole time. When I was done, I straightened the blanket for the five hundredth time, and then looked around. I wanted everything to be absolutely perfect for when she walked up. I wanted her to see how much time and thought I had put into this surprise. I’d put everything I had into this, hoping that it would work.

I knew that if it didn’t, if she still refused me, saying we had nothing in common, then I would at least know that I had done everything I could. I would be able to move forward, not look back, and figure that things just weren’t meant to be.

It was hard to think that way already, though; I was so hopeful that she would be open and happy to having me in her life. This was the most romantic thing I had ever done for a girl before. I had to be resolute, no matter what the outcome was. Either way, I needed some reprieve from the emotional rollercoaster that I had been on.

I needed to try one last time to win the girl over, before my brain or my heart would even consider letting me move on. If she was for it, great. I could still stop being so miserable, stop being so distracted, and maybe start moving forward with my life, with her along with me, of course. And if not, well, that would be another story, and I would have to cross that bridge when I got to it.

I could see just a bit of the parking lot up on the hill, where the driver was letting her out. She looked confused, but still did exactly what the driver instructed. I stood there with my hands clutched in front of me, breathing deeply, in through the nose, out through the mouth. She disappeared on the trail and I knew it would be a minute before she rounded the corner. I had a theory that her first reaction would set the tone for how everything would go. Hopefully, it would be a good one.

As she turned the corner into view, I smiled big, trying to hide the nerves on my face. She smirked, shaking her head and stopping right before the clearing. She put her hands on her hips, and I could tell she was trying to hide a smile, but the flowers and candles were too much for her to take. It was a good sign, and I was going to go with it. I walked forward to meet her as she continued toward me. She chuckled, looking at everything, and I stood there, still smiling, looking down at her. I handed her the rose in my hand and waited for her to talk.

“This is—wow,” she said. “It’s probably the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for me. It’s absolutely gorgeous. I am definitely surprised, to say the least. Still, I can’t help but be really confused by it all. I mean, I really thought I would never see you or hear from you again after I left that letter. But here I am, in a sea of sand and roses, with you standing in front of me. You have to know that my heart is fighting my mind right now.”

“I do know. So come here,” I said, taking her hand and leading her to the blanket. “Sit with me.”

She smiled and sat down on the blanket next to me, putting her hands in the front pocket of her hoodie. The candles surrounded us, flickering in the breeze, casting shadows along the shore in the late evening light. The smell of the flowers wafted around us, filling the air. I turned and looked her in the eyes.

“I have tried to respect your wishes,” I said. “The ones you wrote in that letter, I mean. But I feel like it’s almost impossible. I can’t get you off my mind, not even for a minute, and I would be lying if I said I don’t want to be the man in your life.”

She listened to me intently, nodding her head, waiting patiently as I talked. When I was done, she took in a deep breath and leaned back on her hand, looking forward out at the sunset. I could tell she was gathering her thoughts, trying to decide what the best response to that would be. It felt like the longest five minutes of my life.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve known that I wanted to live my life a certain way,” she said, still staring at the sunset. “I knew that I would save as much money as I could and then open my own adventure company and live out in a cabin in the woods or a beautiful farmhouse like the inn. I knew that I belonged out there, out here even, just waiting for the next hike. It’s not that I don’t care about you. It’s that I feel as if a relationship would derail those plans, and I have worked really
hard.”

I looked out across the water and a smile floated across my face. I could already see what she was talking about, only with me in that picture. I could imagine the two of us living off the grid, me working remotely, helping her fulfill those dreams. I had the means to do it, and it was exactly the kind of life I’d always wanted. I could see now that she had no idea that the business world and the city just wasn’t my cup of tea.

“When I was a little boy,” I said, looking at her as she watched the sunset. “I told myself that I would never work for a big company. I would spend my days and nights just climbing everything that I came across. And when I got tired, I would find my cabin in the woods to have a good night’s sleep and a nice hot meal. Somewhere along the way, that got pushed aside, but it’s still no less important to me. Tiffany, I fell in love with you. That’s just the reality of it. It was unexpected, but very much wanted.”

She turned looking at me with her mouth dropped open.

“I absolutely love your plans for the future,” I said. “It’s exactly what I’ve always wanted. I will do anything in my power to help you make those dreams happen, but I want to be by your side when you do. I know that means leaving the city, and I’m okay with that. More than okay, really. I hate living in the city, working in the city, being bound to that concrete jungle that never slows down and never stops just to breathe the fresh air. I would do it in a heartbeat right now, if it meant we could build our dreams together.”

I looked back at her and smiled, seeing the surprised and teary-eyed look on her face. She shook her head and stumbled over her words for a minute, stopping and collecting her thoughts. She swallowed hard and started again.

“I don’t even know what to say or do in this moment,” she said. “I thought you wanted the city life, that crazy lifestyle. I never imagined that you would give it all up for something like that.”

“Not just something, but someone,” I smiled.

“I don’t know what to say,” she admitted.

“Then don’t say anything,” I suggested, leaning over and kissing her on the lips.

She stayed stiff for a moment but eventually folded into my arms. I kissed her passionately, sliding my hands through her hair, feeling the electricity between us. I had never felt that kind of raw emotion before in my life and all I could think about was holding her as close as I possibly could, showing her how much I truly loved her. She reached up and grabbed onto my shirt, whimpering as my tongue slid through her lips and tasted her luscious mouth.

Instantly, my cock grew hard and I pulled her over on top of me, straddling me, grinding her warm mound against the bulge in my pants. I had been with her before, more than once, but this felt different. This felt like forever. My hands caressed her shoulders as we sat there in front of the setting sun, our lips locked in emotion and passion. She swirled her hips against me, moaning softly into my mouth, feeling the pressure rising between us. A burst of warm air blew across the lake and washed over the both of us as we fell back onto the blanket. We rolled over, and I pulled her sweatshirt up and off, then her shirt.

She reached back and unclasped her bra, letting her firm breasts bounce out. I put my hands up and squeezed them tightly, feeling her nipples harden in my palms. She moaned again, arching her back. I scooted down and undid her jeans, sliding them over her perfect curves and laying them on the blanket beside us. Then I laid down between her legs and pushed her panties to the side, smoothing my fingers through her folds before leaning in for a kiss.

She tasted so good, and all it did was make my cock even harder. I pulled my shirt over my head and tossed it to the side before leaning down between her legs again and sucking her clit into my mouth. She growled, lifting her hips off the ground and pressing her body against my mouth. I could feel the heat of our bodies clashing together and I lifted my hand up, pushing two fingers deep inside of her. She screamed out in pleasure, rolling her hips, grinding against me as I flicked my tongue wildly against her clit.

Her body twisted and turned uncontrollably as I pushed her closer and closer to climax. She groaned as I flicked the tips of my fingers inside of her, twisting them as I pulled them out and pushed them back in. As soon as my mouth landed back on her clit, she grabbed the back of my head, breathing heavily, and exploded. Her back arched and her head rolled as her whole body shook. I lapped at the explosion of juices, groaning into her clit. Her thighs quivered next to me, but I continued until she relaxed back into the sand.

Slowly, I pulled my body up onto my knees and undid my belt, staring down at her. She was going to have so much pleasure, she would never be able to walk away again.

  Chapter Nineteen

  Tiffany

I didn’t know how I got there or why I was even there, but that orgasm had shut off my brain completely. The feeling of his warm mouth against my skin was so hot, and I realized in that moment just how much I’d really missed that man. When I finally got my bearings back, I looked up, watching him undo his belt and take off his pants. His cock was so hard, trapped in his boxers screaming for release. He took them off and I quickly sat up, not wanting to miss that chance. He watched me as I grabbed his shaft, sitting down on my butt and pulling his cock into my mouth.

I swirled my tongue around the tip, before diving my head forward, taking him in to the base. He groaned loudly, reaching down and rubbing his hand through my hair. As I slid my mouth back up the shaft, I sucked hard in the back of my throat, listening to his labored breathing. It was so hot listening to him groan, listening to him lose control of himself, every dip of my head making his cock harder and harder.

I smiled, reaching down and rolling his balls gently around in my hand, feeling him twitch in front of me. I opened my throat wide and pushed down to the base once again, this time staying there for a moment, bobbing my head just slightly. He let out a growl and grabbed my head, pulling me back and looking down in my face.

“You keep doing that and this will be over really fast,” he chuckled breathlessly.

I smiled and crawled backward, pulling off my panties before turning over and rising up on all fours. I looked back at him, licking my fingers and sliding them through my folds, needing him, wanting him so badly. He growled, grabbing his shaft and quickly moving forward to meet me. He rubbed his hands over my ass, squeezing it tightly before pushing his cock deep into my pussy. I screamed out, feeling every inch of him penetrate me deeper than ever before. He scooted forward and grabbed my hips, gently tugging and pushing my body forward down his shaft.

I could feel ecstasy building as he pounded into me harder and harder with every thrust. I covered my mouth, groaning, and then put down my hand, no longer caring if anyone could hear me. He grunted softly as he pushed in and out of me, and the sound aroused me more and more. I breathed deeply, trying to control myself, but feeling the climax getting closer and closer yet again. He leaned forward and wrapped his hand around my waist, cupping my pussy and spreading my lips apart. His fingers moved over my clit and started to rub circles, as fast and as hard as his hips were moving.

I gasped, feeling the immense pleasure washing over me. I started to bounce forward and back, meeting his thrusts with force, hearing the sound of our bodies slapping together, echoing through the cove. It was so hot, so erotic, and even more so since anyone could see us from the water or from the beach. He swirled his fingers around me and when he slapped my clit again, I burst into orgasm, my pussy tightening hard around his shaft. He pulled his hands back up to my waist and fucked me fast and hard as I rode the wave of pleasure.

Without thought then, he turned me over and then lay back, looking at me with lust. I crawled toward him, turning around and riding him reverse cowgirl. He groaned, feeling the way my body bounced up and down on him, pushing his cock deep and then pulling back before doing it all over again. I leaned forward and grabbed onto his ankles, slapping my hips up and down over and over again, giving him the perfect view. He moaned loudly, feeling our bodies colliding wit
h force and passion. I slowed my pace, pulling myself upright and looking back at him as I ground down on him. I pulled my legs in front of me and slowly turned, keeping his cock inside of me.

He looked at me as if impressed. I laughed, quickly slapping my hands down on his chest. He smiled, biting his lip as I pushed my hips down into him, rolling them in circles and moaning in pleasure. He reached up and grabbed me around the waist, lifting me up his cock about halfway and holding me there for a moment. Suddenly he started to pump his hips up and down, slow at first, but then quickly picking up speed.

He slammed into me over and over again, his body slapping against my clit. I could feel the surge of heat flowing through my body as his cock started to pulse inside of me. I wanted to feel him come, to feel the pleasure that it brought me. I moved my body up and down with the motion as I entered into my final climax. As his skin touched against mine, I shook wildly, feeling the waves of pleasure pulse through my veins and take over my mind.

He groaned, pushing me down hard against him, lifting his hips from the ground and pushing deep inside of me. I could feel his cock pulsing harder as his body stiffened and he exploded in orgasm. We sat there under the stars, moaning in unison, feeling our bodies connecting on a level I had never experienced before. When it was over, I collapsed forward onto his chest, breathing heavily.

I rolled onto my side and watched as he leaned over, grabbing his bag and pulling a big blue fleece blanket out. I smiled at him, feeling like he was prepared for anything. He pulled the blanket over the two of us and pulled me in close to him, wrapping his arms around my body and laying my head on his shoulder. I could barely catch my breath, even still, and my body was completely spent.
