Midnight Rain
Page 26
“I needed it.”
“You needed it?”
“Yes. I needed that constant reminder. The one that I could look at every day and remember what it’s all about.”
“This is my drawing,” I stated, observing the exact replica of what I’d drawn there. The exact drawing I’d placed on his arm was supplanted with permanent ink. The lion was strong and superior with a powerful expression. The tiny heart on the lionesses chest held the initials JLH; Janie lives here. The great detailed paws held the exact name I’d spelled out in calligraphy down to the tiny little pea for the period. ‘I’ll never let go’ was spelled around the diamond collar circling a strong feline neck in the same font as Pea’s name. ‘M.C.’ dangled from a round tag at the lion’s throat. “M.C.?” I questioned. I only knew one M.C.
“What do you think?”
“Makayla Coast?”
“Hmm that could work.”
“You do remember my last name, right? It’s still M.C.”
“Yeah, I thought about that, but don’t you think Coast has a much better ring to it?”
“I do, but it was my mom’s name too.”
“Does that mean you want to keep it?”
“No, my mom would want me to have the same name as you and Pea.”
“Carlie is a pretty little girl’s name.”
I snorted, “Don’t you start that too.”
“Mom and Sarah?”
“Yes,” I admitted with an eye roll.
“Forget the initials. I almost didn’t put them there at all. I only did it because I was afraid it would hurt your feelings.”
“It would have.”
“But it shouldn’t. This lioness was drawn here by your hands. Look at her face, look how strong she is. These paws holding Pea will never let go, Janie living in this heart was put there because of you. I was too busy trying to let her go to realize that not only did I not have to do that, but I didn’t want to. I love telling Pea about her mom. I love it that she’s going to remember those things, even if she doesn’t know her. You’re the one that did this.”
Wow. What a powerful statement. What a powerful tattoo.
Blake moved his lips closer to mine and softly spoke, “I was scared, Makayla, but I was never going to let go.”
“You weren’t?” I asked, parting my lips.
“No. I love you, and we’ll face whatever comes at us together. I promise you that, but there is one more thing.”
“There is?”
“Yes. If you ever keep something like this from me again, I will beat your ass until it bleeds. Do you understand me?”
“Yes. Loud and clear. I’m sorry.”
“I’m sorry too. I should have talked to you about it sooner. Let’s promise not do this again. Ever. If there is something bothering you; tell me. I want to feel everything you do.”
“I don’t want you to feel like that again.”
“And I don’t want you to either, but if it ever arises, we’re in this together, got it?”
“Yes. Are you going to kiss me now or what?”
Pea interrupted, carrying her plate. “I say not. Yuck. Can I have more chips? I don’t like this sandwich.”
“Why not? You barely touched it.”
“It doesn’t have the right cheese. I don’t like this yellow kind.”
“You put Swiss on her ham sandwich?”
Blake shrugged his shoulders, “How do you know all of this stuff?”
“Well, she talks,” I frowned, taking the sandwich.
I loved, loved, loved, my life. My home. My new bed. Oh my God we had a bed. No more tent. Pea had more soda that night because we ordered pizza and a movie. I bribed her for the middle theater seat; I needed to be close to Blake and her. I needed to be in the middle, but I needed the movie to be over and Pea to be in bed more.
“I’m going to get ready for bed. You get ready too. I’ll come and tuck you in.”
“No, daddy is. He’s going to tell me about when my mom stepped on a bee and scared the parade away.”
I smiled at Blake and ruffled his hair. I would ask about that one later too, I could only imagine what that story entailed.
I spent more time in the bathroom than I ever did. Not so much getting ready, more like too nervous to open the door and walk out. I flipped my hair around my shoulder again and then back. Gah! I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t be sexy. This was stupid. I should have saved my money. The reflection staring back at me was of the same coward Mikki that took ten minutes just to walk into the Victoria Secret store. Maybe this was a bad idea. Maybe I should wait for another day. Maybe I should—
“Wow.”
“Hey.”
“You’re beautiful. Is that for me?”
I shrugged, seeing myself in the mirror. I chose a very expensive, probably the most I’d ever paid for a piece of clothing in my life, black baby-doll slip. The front was called a fly away. That’s what the lady told me. The bra covered my breasts and the cutout front flowed to the top of my hips with a transparent, soft mesh. My panties matched with tiny strings hugging my hips, and one between my ass cheeks. That one took some getting used to. “This was the minute I told you I needed. I wanted to celebrate. With you.”
Blake got the biggest smile on his face and walked toward me. “I love this. Like over the top, love it. Turn around, let me see you.”
“No. I feel like a fool.”
“Don’t, but you do have to slip something on. Pea’s waiting to be tucked in.”
“Seriously? She said you were doing it.”
“I’m not good enough. Go tuck her in and let me grab a shower. I’ll meet you in—Oh my God we have a bed!”
“I know. I said the same thing. Let’s never go camping again.”
“Pea want’s to sleep in the tent on her birthday.”
“Let’s never do it again after that.”
Blake pulled me to him and I took a step back. His hand cupped my right bare butt cheek and he kissed me. Really, really kissed me. I was instantly wet. That’s the kind of kiss it was. Then again, that may have been the erection he was pressing to my pulsating nub.
“You need to get away from me, before I ruin your plans and move these cute little panties to the side and slide into you.”
“You can do that,” I panted.
My hips bucked toward Blake’s thumb on their own when he touched me there. The thin material did little to protect the sensations just a bit of pressure caused.
“Pea will ruin it and then you’ll be mad at her. She’s not going to wait more than—”
“Mikki? Are you coming?” A muffled voice said from behind the door.
“Yeah, baby. I’m coming,” I called, humming the word coming on Blake’s lips. “Hurry up. I’ll be five minutes,” I coaxed, sliding away from him.
“I only need two.”
“Wait. I don’t have a robe in here. I can’t open the door.”
“Here.”
Blake unbuttoned his shirt, and my eyes went to the lion. I still couldn’t believe Blake got a tattoo. Wow. Blake got a tattoo.
“Walk over to the door and I’ll give you my shirt,” Blake wagered.
“No way. I can’t do that.”
“You have to. You can’t put this thing on and not let me see you in it. Go on.”
My eyes narrowed to Blake’s and I took the challenge, right after I stroked the erection lying to the left side of his pants. Not only did I walk to the door, I gave him a show. Placing two thumbs in the G-string, I slid them over my hips, slowly freeing the string from my slit.
“Fuck,” Blake said in a raspy whisper. I giggled and reached for his shirt.
“Hey, where are you?” I called to Pea who was just outside the door a second ago.
“I’m pooping!” I heard in a grunt from down the hall. I turned back to my phone that was now ringing on the bed. The bed. Yay!
“Hey, Sarah,” I answered, walking to find Pea.
“Hi. Are you okay?” I smile
d and walked into the bathroom with Pea. Her arms flailed like she was trying to fly and I frowned at her.
“Yes, but hang on one second,” I said, dropping the phone away from my mouth “What are you doing?”
“Don’t tell Grandma Sarah I’m pooping.”
“Okay, I wasn’t going to. Maybe you should stop telling me to,” I offered, giving her very good advice.
“But you can smell it.”
“You’re not kidding. Hurry up. Did you already brush?”
“Yes, with dad. I can’t hurry these things.”
“I’ll wait in your room. Sorry,” I said, getting back to Sarah, “things are great. Thank you for being there. It means a lot.”
“I wish I would have always been there, Mikki.”
“I know you do, and I know Barry does too. I’m glad I have you in my life. Both of you.”
“That means a lot. We love you.”
“Yeah, well let’s not push it,” I teased. Sarah laughed and told me to tell Pea goodnight and to call her tomorrow.
“Don’t you love my new bed?” Pea asked, climbing up the foot. I did love her bed. I loved any bed.
“Climb in. Princess like a boss.”
“Hey, that’s not your shirt.”
“I know. It’s your dads.”
“I can smell him.”
“Me too. Arms in or out?”
“Out. Smell mine.”
“Hmmm,” I said, breathing in spring scented Downy.
“Does it smell like my mommy?”
“I think it does. Do you?”
“Yeah,” she said, smiling with not only her lips, but also her eyes.
“I love you soooooooo much.”
“I love you too. Goodnight, Mikki.”
“Night, baby girl.”
I kissed her head and flipped off her lamp before pulling the door shut, leaving it open just a crack to hear her by. My neck shook my head and my arms shuddered at my sides while my brain convinced my body to relax.
“Stop,” Blake ordered from the bed. He was naked, lying on his stomach with his tight white ass up. I closed the door and turned the lock. “Take it off.”
“Your shirt?” I questioned, popping the first button. My hair purposely fell around my face and I looked out from my lashes while moving to button number two and then three. Blake’s headed nodded once and my mouth watered. I seductively ran my fingers over the buttons with red nails. The shoulder slid over one side and then the other. I held it there, behind my back and took a step toward Blake.
“Take it off.”
“This?” I questioned, holding out on the baby-doll slip.
“Yes.”
“But I only wore it for fifteen minutes. I paid seventy-five bucks for this thing.”
“You can put it back on after I make love to you.”
That was exactly what Blake did. There was no erotic foreplay, no grabbing fistfuls of covers at the hands of Blake’s mouth, no euphoric moaning, and only one position. My body lay perfectly below his, and our eyes never left each other’s.
“Does it hurt?” Blake whispered with his thumb over the two tiny holes in my left breast.
“No, not at all.”
His lips kissed the bad spot and he whispered, “There, all better.”
That kiss solidified the rest of my day. It was all better. Everything was all better and this was our time. Our time to be happy and raise our happy little family, running our happy little business.
My legs tightened around Blake’s waist and I lifted my knees when I felt the yearning building from the pit of my stomach. Blake sensed it and lifted my legs more. The moans evolved after that. He held himself above me and pumped, faster, harder, deeper, until the shuddering quakes. Enlightened senses met in the middle, exploding around both of us, until the very end, until the last ripple was ridden.
“I love you, Makayla.”
“I love you too. I want a tattoo.”
Blake lifted his weight and laughed, “You do?”
“Yeah, I do. Did it hurt?”
“Oh, like hell,” he admitted, sliding to my side. He pulled my hips to his and kissed me with a slap on my ass. “Go put that little outfit back on.”
“No. It’s silly now.”
“No it’s not. It’s sexy as hell. Put it on.”
I did…I would do anything and everything to make this man happy. I lay in Blake’s arms and trifled with my soft legs and flirty kisses. I loved him.
“If Janie and my mom could talk to us, what do you think they would be saying right now?” I asked swaying my leg back and forth, touching the inside of Blake’s with every sway.
“They would be saying ‘damn she’s smoking hot in bed’.”
“Nooo!” I said, covering his mouth. “Not that. They don’t see that stuff.”
“They don’t?”
“No. They only see us with close on.”
Blake laughed and pulled me flat to my back. “Let’s take this off again,” he suggested, sliding my second attempt to be sexy down my hips.
Okay.
Exactly five days later, Pea had the best birthday party ever. And I got the best news ever. The biopsy was as clean as they come, and my blood tests all came back fine. I was in the clear. I wasn’t sick. My destiny wasn’t set. It was up to me. I could create it ever how I wanted and I was going to cherish every last second of it. I was even excited to have the stupid wedding and wear the white dress for Sarah and Grace. For the first time in a very long time, I was home. The only black rain I would ever permit in my life would be because it was after midnight and I was dancing in the rain.
I was home.
Dear Mr. Santa Claus
My name is London and I am five but my name is Pea too because I am a princess like a boss. My dad is Blake and he plays the piano and so does Mikki and so do I but I don’t do it as good as they do. My mommy died but she made me first and Mikkis mommy gave me her and now we have a family and I am getting a baby sister but not yet Mikki said she will come in the summer and she might be a boy but I don’t want no boys only girls. If you are friends with the stork can you tell him I will be mean if I have a brother and then I wont get any presents because I was naughty. I am good but boys make me to mad and sometimes I stick my tongue out but I don’t hit them.
My Chrismas list is a sister for one but I already said that so I won’t bug you. I might not be home so you might have to come to my granmas house. I might be there. I have to ask Mikki for the address maybe she can text you or maybe you have facebook. We have to go to my granma and my granpas house and my other granma will be there too and they are going to buy me presents but I still want some from you to. We was going to do it at my house but Mikki said no because my daddy got drunk the last time with my granpa and that’s why the baby got in Mikki’s belly. If I cant get a girl baby can you help me just get a kitty instead I would like that more than a brother. But I might love him if he is a cute baby but I don’t want to take any chances. But now I will tell you what my list is but first can you fly past Damion Lexus house because he broke two of my crayons and I just got them now I don’t have a green one and I don’t have a red one either and that’s imported colors for grass and things that are red. My Chrismas list is all this stuff but the stuff at the top is better than the stuff at the bottom so can I have that first like the first things and then the rest of the stuff.
I would like a scarf for my Granma Grace because I spilled grape juice on hers and she was sad cause it was her favorite but can it be white with black specks or something that looks like snowflakes but its not really Its just round and looks like that. And can my dad have a pocket knife because he always barros my granpas and my granpa tells him real men have there own knifes and I want my dad to be a real man to but I think he is almost. If he gets his own knife then he will. My Granma Sarah likes to look at my crystal lions in my light cabinet. We named them all but that’s to many names and you already know cause your Santa Claus. They are my best pocesso
n I have. I am sorry if that is not how to spell it Mikki told me four times but it’s a long word and she thinks you will know what it is. My dad said shes grouchy because the baby makes her tired and she has been telling me to spell words for one hour but I don’t think it was for that long. I think she is grochy because theres a boy in there. But I still love her a hole lot and I want her to get some nerves for Chrismas if you can do that. My dad took her to get a tattoo like his two times and she was scared then my dad got drunk and put the baby in there so now she has to wait. If you have to be a doctor to get her new nerves you can just bring her a new American girl doll. My hair is brown can you make it have brown hair to. You don’t have to bring my granpa any presents because he is rich but maybe you can bring him some candy he likes mms. For me I want to have a lion with gold on his tale here is the link in case your elfs don’t no how to make crystals http://www.amazon.com/Crystal-Lion-Figurine-Made-Swarovski/dp/B003SSKJ7K/ref=sr_1_22?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1426032574&sr=1-22&keywords=crystal+lion
It is on amazon and I want it. I also want another gold fish because I have a fish tank but not a fish. I promosie not to put him in the pool this time. I did want a monkey but not now but if you bring any toys that need some batteries will you bring the batteries to. I want my own wheelchair to because I want to wheel it in the pool when it gets summer time again. And I will take a slimjim and peanuts like the circus too and can I have a dry erase board with different color markers and a eraser. And I want to get a Mohawk cause boys shouldn’t only be allowed cause I want one to but Mikki said no. I like to have a pony to but My yard doenst have a barn or a fence so can you build that first and maybe I can get a pony when I’m 6.
Well I cant think of no more presents and Mikki don’t want to spell words any more and she is going to tickle me if I ask her one more word and I will try to be sleeping before you come but remember I might be at my granmas but maybe not because Miki said she doesn’t like to do taxes at there house so we might be here so can you just look. Good By Santa Claus.
