I felt my body as all the new sensations came together in one fantastic explosion of pleasure. Matthew held onto me and leaned me over his desk while he thrust his pleasure into me and grunted a moan of his own pleasure.
My legs were weak as I lay on his desk and Matthew dressed me and then picked me up and carried me to the couch. I couldn’t keep my eyes opened for another second. The exhaustion of my night of drinking combined with the lack of sleep and sexual exertion were all too much for me.

Slowly I felt my body come back to life and I opened my heavy eyes. It was dark in the office and it took a moment for my eyes to adjust and for me to realize where I was.
I sat up and looked around the office to see if Matthew was there. It was obviously late in the day as the window was dark and I could see the lights of the city around.
My eyes strained to look around the room, but it was no use I had to get up and find a light in order to see anything. I swung my legs over onto the ground, but instead of feeling the firm carpet below me, I felt the bump of a body.
“Ouch,” Matthew exclaimed.
“Sorry, I can’t see a thing in here.”
“That’s how people normally sleep, in the dark.”
“What time is it?” I asked as I pulled my legs back up onto the couch.
“It’s about three o’clock,” Matthew said after he looked at his phone on the table.
“Why are you sleeping on the ground?”
Matthew got up and flipped the lamp on next to the couch then climbed next to me. He pulled my feet up onto his lap and very sweetly started to rub them. I felt utterly confused. This was the same man who had been unshakably angry at me only a few hours before. Now he sat with me on the couch and gently touched my toes, I was confused.
“I wasn’t about to leave you here alone and you were exhausted and wouldn’t wake up.”
“I didn’t sleep much last night.”
“I know, Raymond said you came home really late. I had him looking for you when you didn’t answer me. I was worried. I’m glad you got home safely, though.”
The thought of totally ignoring the fact that Gene had come back to the apartment complex with me was firmly on my mind. It really wasn’t any of Matthew’s business. We weren’t dating. He wasn’t my boyfriend. Therefore he should wield any control over who I did or didn’t sleep with. But I hated the thought of Matthew thinking I had been with another man. I felt guilty enough for what had happened with Senator Masson, I couldn’t leave another item on my conscience.
“You know that guy I came home with just lives in the same complex. He didn’t come home to my apartment with me,” I said quietly.
I couldn’t bring myself to look at Matthew as I disclosed that information though because I felt like he would see right through me and realize there was more to the story. Because there was more to what had happened the day before, so much more.
Like I felt Senator Masson had stolen Alex because of me and what had happened between us after lunch. Surely he must have had the plan to poach Alex for a long time, but I felt something changed after George had won what he wanted from me. Well, not everything he wanted; I had been able to prevent him from getting me totally.
“Kayla, we are a team. I need you and that means we need to communicate. No more George Masson and no more random guys from bars. Please.”
The tone of his voice wasn’t an angry one. Instead, it felt gentle. My heart pounded at his words and I felt like they were as close to an apology as I would ever get from Matthew.
“You don’t want me to flirt with Senator Masson anymore?” I asked.
“No, we are done with him.”
“Okay,” I sad as I grabbed Matthew’s hand and pulled myself toward him.
I laid my head on his shoulder and he wrapped his arm around me. Our relationship, or whatever it was, wasn’t perfect. But it was ours and I liked it.
“There’s a dinner at the White House coming up. Would you go with me?” Matthew asked.
My heart soared with happiness. Matthew Storm had finally come around and wanted me to go with him as his date to a big event. I didn’t care what anyone else thought. I didn’t care what they talked about, together we would show them that we could work together and date each other. It was the twenty-first century anyway and a new era of dating throughout the world.
“Yes,” I said as I turned and kissed him. “Of course I’ll go with you, I’d love to.”
“Great. We need to talk the other Senators into voting for Masson for the House Speaker job. There is no way I’m taking that. We can start with some of the younger Senators and then work on the more veteran ones.”
The look in his eyes was distant and I saw the wheels turning as he planned his next step. Suddenly I realized he didn’t want me to go with him as his date. He wanted me to help him complete his plan.
“Alright,” I said with much less enthusiasm.
“I’m going to make you my official assistant since Alex is gone. You have earned it. No one in this office has helped me as much as you have. Masson can have Alex, I don’t give a damn. I’m on my way to the White House and I won’t be stopped by him and his childish games.”
There was no choice for me. If I wanted to stay working in Washington, I needed to help Matthew get what he wanted. I saw the determination in his eyes; he was going to get everything and I wasn’t about to get in his way.

Matthew
I know Kayla wanted more from me and there was a part of me that wanted to give it to her. I did like having her around and I loved having her in my bed, but I just wasn’t in a position to have a girlfriend. If we could figure out a way to keep things casual while also working together, that would be the ideal situation for me.
I knew I needed to calm down my anger around her though. She wouldn’t want to stay working for me if I was always an asshole. My anger had worked for a purpose in the beginning, but at this point I needed her more than I cared what others thought. Perhaps I could find a balance of distance at work and closeness when we were away from work.
The disappointment on her face was heartbreaking when I told her I invited her to the White House event to help me with the social end of the business. But I just couldn’t get emotionally attached to her. Kayla had to be a person I used to get what I wanted; otherwise I would be too distracted by her.
“Kayla, come in here now,” I yelled into the work area.
Kayla hated when I yelled for her and had told me several times to just text her and she would come to my office. But I liked yelling for her, I liked getting her a little agitated with me, it helped me keep my distance from her at work; it also set the stage for the other office staff not considering the possibility that Kayla and I were anything more than co-workers.
I saw the agitation on her face as she got up from her desk and made her way to my office. It was difficult for me not to smile at her. She was too fucking adorable when she was mad, I actually liked it. I had to hide my desire to take her right there.
“Senator Storm, please feel free to buzz my phone or send me a message anytime you need me. I’d be happy to come right in,” Kayla said loud enough that the whole office heard her.
I ignored her and continued on with what I needed. It was hard to resist smiling though and I really had to try and be a little mean to keep myself from giving in to the laughter inside. Kayla was frigging adorable when she was mad.
“We have the White House dinner tomorrow; I need to go over ou
r strategy.”
“Sure,” Kayla said reluctantly.
As I closed my office door I saw something flying toward me out of the corner of my eye; it was Kayla’s hand.
She almost made contact with my face, but I reached up and stopped her just in time. The fire in her eyes was so sexually arousing I didn’t care how angry she was at me. I had to bite my lip to avoid bending her over and slapping her ass or at the very least kissing her.
“Matthew, stop yelling at me in front of everyone. They get it! We aren’t dating! But seriously everyone already thinks you’re a jerk, you can stop now.”
“Does it make you angry?” I asked as I continued to hold her hand in the air. A small smirk crossed my face, even though I tried to stop myself.
“Don’t you laugh at me Matthew, don’t you dare laugh at me.”
“I’m sorry,” I said as I inadvertently broke out in a full on laugh. “Really, I am.”
“Matthew Storm, you are purposely making me angry.”
“No, really I wasn’t. But the look on your face was turning me on so much at the moment that I just couldn’t resist.”
I thought she would have softened up a little after hearing that I was turned on by her anger, but it in fact made her even angrier. Her eyes steamed as she looked at me and I decided it was time to back off a little bit.
“Do you want to talk about the White House or not?”
“I do.”
“Then get your ass over here and let’s sit down and talk about it. Who do we need to talk to? What do we need to accomplish?”
“God you’re fucking sexy when you talk business too.”
I tried to reach for her to pull her toward me, but Kayla just walked away and sat down at the small conference table in the corner of my office.
We hadn’t had sex since the night after her partying. The night that I invited her to come to the White House event with me; and then told her I needed her to be my assistant. It had to be that way though; I couldn’t risk the emotional issues that came with having anything more between us.
“I’m going back to my desk if you don’t actually have anything to talk about.”
“I do. Sit down.”
The firmness in my tone told Kayla that I was serious and from that point forward she sat and listened to my plans for our night at the White House. She appeared to genuinely pay attention and I got over our little lust fest from earlier.
“Senator Masson is going to be the next Speaker of the House and we are going to convince everyone how great he will be at it. Since Edwards has been on the Arms Committee I have been hearing a lot of information about things going on and I need Masson out of my way.”
“What do you mean? How will he be out of your way if he’s the Speaker? Won’t he be even more in your way?”
I wasn’t about to tell Kayla everything that was going on, for her protection and for mine. But within only a few short months there was going to be an opening in the White House and I needed to be ready to take it. Which meant that Senator Masson was going to need to be in the middle of a big political mess and the only way that could happen was if he was Speaker of the House.
“You’re going to need to trust me on this Kayla.”
She rolled her eyes at me at first but then appeared to be thinking through the scenarios. She was a smart girl and I assumed she was going to come by the reason I was doing what I was; but I certainly wasn’t going to say the words out loud. I couldn’t risk openly incriminating myself like that.
“I have one condition.”
“What is it?”
“You have to stop yelling at me in front of everyone. Did you yell at Alex like that?”
“Yes. Actually much worse, I’m pretty sure I called him names, too.”
“Well I can’t take it. It stresses me out and I want to punch you in the face every time you do it so please for the love of God stop yelling at me in front of everyone!”
Kayla’s voice had progressively gotten louder as she stood up at the table and ended by pounding her hands loudly to emphasis her point. Damn she was fucking sexy as hell when she was angry.
“Sure, I’ll stop,” I said with a smile.
Kayla looked at me in disgust and headed toward the door; she stopped for a brief moment and looked back at me.
“And stop smiling at me all the time!” She yelled before she slammed the door shut.
I knew by the tone of her voice that I needed to switch things up and be a little sweeter if I was going to keep her working for me throughout my plan.
Kayla
He was such an egotistical jerk and I seriously could not figure out why he wanted me to be his assistant. Since taking on the added responsibilities Matthew had been the definition of a jerk. He was bossy, rude and arrogant. He didn’t care if I was left in the office until all hours of the night and I felt like he really didn’t care what my opinion was on anything. I didn’t need a guy like that around at all.
Everyone in the office was pissed off that I got the assistant job when Matthew announced it, so for a week I had been dealing with their snide remarks and rudeness. Even when Matthew yelled at me and was a jerk in front of everyone; they still talked about me and said I deserved it because I didn’t know what I was doing.
I seriously felt like I was close to just leaving my job, leaving Matthew and moving onto something less stressful. I couldn’t take it anymore and all his snide smiling was starting to piss me off as well. He thought he could just look at me and I would melt, but he was being a total jerk to me, it didn’t work like that.
My focus had changed totally. Maybe it would be best to just have a professional relationship with Matthew, especially if I was going to be his assistant only. We could move on and just be friends and co-workers; nothing more than that.
As I stormed out of his office my hands shook out of anger. I couldn’t believe he didn’t see how he had been treating me. Or maybe he saw it and just didn’t care? Maybe he was purposely being a total jack ass? I didn’t know at all but the Matthew I had met in Chicago was long gone and I didn’t really like the one that was left behind.
“Anna, do you want to come over and have dinner and chat or anything tonight?” I said via text.
“Sure, but can I bring my boyfriend? I know he’d love to see your place.”
She had a boyfriend? Man, I didn’t want him to come over to my house; I just wanted someone that I could bitch about my job with. But I didn’t want to turn Ana away; she was the only one of my friends who seemed to have free time and could come over when I was overwhelmed.
“I’d love to meet him. I’ll see you around eight o’clock?”
“Sounds good, see you then.”
I really liked Anna; she was really put together and focused on her career in Washington D.C. She also understood the male and female dynamic in Washington and had calmed me down on more than one occasion when I felt like Matthew was being a total jerk.
There was a feeling of obligation that I had with Matthew now that I was his assistant that I had not had before. It didn’t make things any better that he had paid for my apartment for entire year also. Although I was pretty sure he would still let me keep it even if I left the job.
As soon as five o’clock hit, I darted out of the office and down the street to the grocery store. I didn’t want to talk to Matthew and I certainly didn’t want to be left alone with him in the office. The only way to be certain that I could avoid him was to get out of the office before he even thought about leaving.
I grabbed some simple spaghetti ingredients and made my way back to my apartment. The one thing that had made my life really happy had been the apartment Matthew was paying for me. It reduced my two hours of commuting time to about twenty minutes, plus it was so much more fun to have people over to my house. Although everyone seemed pretty busy with their jobs in the last few weeks.
As I cooked the spaghetti and cleaned my apartment up I couldn’t wait to see Anna and even to meet her
new boyfriend. It felt very grown up to be having a couple over to my house instead of just my friends; I even put out some real dishes on the table for us to eat at.
The knock at the door came and I rushed to answer it and welcome my friend and her boyfriend. I certainly couldn’t have expected what I found at my door.
“Hey, Anna…” I started to say before I realized it was Matthew at my door.
“Not Anna.”
“Shit, Matthew, they are going to be here any second. You have to leave.”
“Tell them to leave, I want to see you. I want to spend some naked time with you,” Matthew said as he stepped into my apartment and tried to kiss me.
I pushed him away and started to close the door as I heard the elevator door down the hall opened up. Quickly I pulled Matthew into my apartment and shut the door.
“You have to hide, get in my bedroom.”
“If you insist,” he said with a smile on his face. “Just send them away and we can enjoy your delicious dinner. I’m starving.”
“Go. Go. Go,” I said as I pointed to my bedroom. “And shut the door.”
Just as Matthew got to my bedroom, Anna knocked on my front door. I took a couple deep breaths and then opened the door to greet them. I tried to pretend like nothing at all was going on.
“Anna!” I said as I hugged my friend. “This must be the boyfriend?”
“Yep, this is Todd.”
“It’s nice to meet you Todd, come in, come in. I made spaghetti.”
I knew that Matthew was going to get pissed off that I invited them in, but I wasn’t about to cancel my night with my friends because he randomly decided he wanted to get laid. He needed to know that I wasn’t willing to be at his beck and call whenever he felt like it.
“Kayla, I just can’t get over how beautiful your apartment is,” Anna said as she walked toward the balcony. “Oh, Todd, you have to see the view from her bedroom balcony; it’s amazing.”
