  “I love him. He's always been my favorite.”

  “Why's that?” Annabelle asked, handing the figurine back.

  Adam thought about it for a moment. There were so many reasons he could have offered, but the deeper he thought, the more the real reason became clear. “Because he always does what's right, no matter how difficult it is, or how much it costs him personally. He puts everything he has on the line for the sake of other people. He's the truest hero he is, and for some reason, I'm only just beginning to realize that.”

  “Oh. I prefer My Little Pony,” Annabelle said.

  Adam chuckled. He wasn't about to debate the merits of Spider-Man versus My Little Pony with Annabelle, because he wasn't sure he would win. He leaned his head against the wall and exhaled deeply. The world was opening up to him and he wasn't hiding from it any longer. He was starting to accept his place in this new world. He only hoped it wouldn't cost him his life.
