“I’m Hans,” he said without a shred of ego. “I’m the bass player.”

  The End

The following list of modern and ’90s-throwback tracks revolves around fast cars, open roads, and reckless love. These songs provided me with hours of SPEEDspiration, and I am eternally grateful to each and every one of the brilliant artists who created them.   Mom—Thank you for volunteering to watch my kids so that I could finish this book on time. You didn’t even care what I was writing about. I could have been toiling away on an article about the latest cat fashions in Indonesia or penning some manifesto about how the government is implanting tracking devices in our skin through tiny robotic mosquitoes; it wouldn’t have mattered. If it’s important to me, it’s important to you. Thank you for being the best mommy in the whole world. I love you.

Ken—You truly are my better half. You’re the better-looking half. You’re the more responsible half. You’re definitely the soberer half. You’re the half who does the taxes, the dishes, the grocery shopping, the laundry, the yard work, the couponing, the car maintenance, and the breakfasts when I’m too tired from pulling another all-nighter. Thank you for excelling where I fail. You are the left brain to my right, the blue sky to my rainbow, the tether to my balloon. I love you.

Ken’s Mom—Mrs. Easton, thank you so much for stepping up to watch my children overnight while I gallivanted all over the country, promoting books that you are never, ever, ever allowed to read. I love you.

Staci Hart—Your unconditional love, sweet vulnerability, fearless pursuit of your best life, lady-boss levels of determination, ability to write both literary prose and one hundred and one sexy math jokes, and your superhuman tequila tolerance inspire me every day. Thank you for all of your brilliant advice and for forgiving my stubborn ass when I refused to listen to it. I love you, Kevin.

My Editors, Jovana Shirley and Ellie McLove—Thank you from the bottom of my heart for always giving me your best. You women are awe-inspiring, and I’m so lucky to have you on my team. I love you.

My Agent, Sarah Hershman—Thanks to you, 44 Chapters About 4 Men will soon be printed in Hebrew, and all of my books will be available in Italian! You help make my dreams come true. I appreciate everything you do!

Alyssa Gomez, KP Simmon, and the whole InkSlinger team—I was very hesitant to sign on with a PR company, but I’m so, so happy I did. Not only have you helped make this release my smoothest one yet, but you’ve also been overwhelmingly friendly, available, receptive, creative, and enthusiastic throughout the entire process. I couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you.

My Beta Readers and Proofreaders (in alphabetical order: April, Mary, Sara Snow, Staci, Sunny, and Tarryn)—You girls are my bottom bitches. I’d go to jail for any one of you. But, like, overnight jail, not like prison jail. Basically, I’d get arrested for you and then let you bail me out, and then I’d let you pay for my defense attorney. But I’d totally take the rap for you. All day, erry day. Thank you for helping take this book from good to great. I love you!

Colleen Hoover—Stop flirting with my husband. Oh, whatever. Go ahead. We can be sister wives. It’s fine.

All My Author Friends—In a society that teaches us to compete, compete, compete, you ladies choose to share instead. You share with me your time, your advice, your encouragement, your resources, and often, your platforms to help me succeed in an oversaturated market where so very few do. Thank you for letting this pink-haired, foul-mouthed new kid sit with you. I love you!

My Reader Group, #TeamBB—You ladies have literally brought me to tears with your support and enthusiasm—not only for me, but also for each other. I grovel at your collective feet. You make me laugh. You share my announcements. You make me teasers. SO many teasers. You make me blush with some of the pictures you post, and you keep my ass in gear. Thank you for everything. If any of you ever need a kidney, I’m your girl.

Harley—We had some good times, man. Wherever you are, I hope no one has made you their bitch.

BB Easton lives in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, with her long-suffering husband, Ken, and two adorable children. She recently quit her job as a school psychologist to write stories about her punk rock past and deviant sexual history full-time. Ken is suuuper excited about it.

If that sounds like the kind of person you want to go around being friends with, then by all means, feel free to drop her a line. Just don’t be surprised if you get a reply at four a.m. with an inexplicable Shia LaBeouf meme or a text that was clearly meant for someone else. BB is what doctors call chronically sleep-deprived—or, as Ken pronounces it, depraved.
