Teddy pulled back to look her in the eyes, and his were dark with eagerness and lust. “You—is that—”

“You’re giving me all of this, right? That’s what it’s about, binding me to you with gifts? Then give me yourself, too.” Amy licked her lips, needing to drive him just a fraction as wild as he’d already driven her.

“Oh, beautiful, you can have anything you want,” he murmured, his voice gone low and hot. He slid one hand into her hair, cradling her head and guiding her as he pressed his cock to her lips. Amy closed her eyes and opened up for him, taking him inside. The hot musky taste of him filled her mouth, and she sucked softly, luring him in.

Teddy groaned above her, giving her a little more. Amy moaned around him. She couldn’t move, couldn’t control any part of this, but Teddy kept giving her just enough. She could feel the throbbing pulse in his cock, his breathing fast and ragged, but he never pushed too far.

“Almost,” Teddy groaned finally, pulling away, leaving her lips tingling and swollen. He bent to kiss her, licking into her mouth where he’d been, and she moaned and kissed back while his hands moved in her hair. When he broke the kiss she realized that he’d been twining yet more gold through her curls, holding her in place there as well.

“Now?” she asked, when she could barely move at all for the weight of gold holding her to the bed.

“Yeah, beautiful,” Teddy agreed, finally moving over her. “Now.”

Ready as she was, she gasped when his cock finally entered her. It felt different like this, bound in gold with nothing else between them. “Yes, yes.”

“Oh yes,” Teddy agreed, moving slowly over her, kissing her on every slow, luxurious thrust. “These are my gifts for you, beautiful. All this is yours. All I have, all I am. I’m yours, and you’re mine.”

“All yours,” Amy echoed breathlessly. She couldn’t be anything else. She couldn’t feel anything but Teddy inside her, Teddy moving above her. She could only taste his kisses, only hear his words. He was everything, and all she had to do was let him have her.

He shifted his angle slightly, moving harder and faster inside her now. She cried out every time he filled her. It was exactly what she needed, driving her faster and faster toward the edge.

“Let go, beautiful,” he murmured in her ear. “Let me have everything.”

“Yes!” Amy came in a rush, brighter than gold. Teddy kept moving inside her, making it stretch on and on until he was coming too, gasping her name.

His weight pressed her down as they both caught their breath, coming slowly back to earth. She wiggled under the combined weight of Teddy and a suitcase full of gold, and he sighed and nodded.

He kissed her and then pulled away, sweeping his hands down over her breasts and belly and legs. The gold slid off her skin, leaving her feeling more naked, and colder. Teddy stretched out beside her, and she twisted toward him, even with her arms still fastened above her, her hair still weighted down.

Teddy kissed her, curling one arm around her and hooking one leg over hers to keep her close.

“So traditionally, out of all of this, you keep a bracelet or two—or an anklet—to wear always, like a wedding ring. I can always change them to suit your mood, but you don’t take them off.”

Amy nodded, smiling so wide her face hurt. “I like your work so far.”

Teddy’s hands slid through her hair and up her arms, freeing her from the weight of gold there. He held her wrists for a moment, and then laced his fingers with hers, drawing their joined hands down between them. Amy’s eyes widened at the sight of her new bracelets. They were wide gold bands, delicately engraved with roses. They were thin enough to be lightweight, but snugly fitted to her wrists. The gold felt warm, like Teddy was still holding her.

Amy kissed his fingers where they were laced with hers. She looked down Teddy’s body with new eyes. The chains he had been wearing when she first met him were around her neck now, and he had given everything in his hoard to her. All he wore now was the gold bracelet on his left wrist.

Amy tugged her hands free of his and said softly, “Close your eyes a second, okay?”

She didn’t want him to think she was giving up the first gifts he had given her, and she didn’t want to tell him this wasn’t the right thing to do. Teddy grinned and closed his eyes, and she had to just stare at him for a moment before she reached back to the familiar clasp of her grandmother’s necklace. She unfastened it and quickly reached out to put it around Teddy’s throat, and his eyes flashed open when the pendant touched his skin, flashing flame-bright.

It was a reminder that her mate was a dragon—but he was her dragon, as much as she was his mate.

  “Amy, beautiful—you don’t—”

She fastened the chain at the back of his neck. “You said you’re mine, and dragons need gold. I can’t be letting you go around with nothing on, can I? If you’re going to take care of me, I have to take at least a little care of you, Teddy.”

He huffed and kissed her softly. “You’re still the only person who gets to call me that.”

“Of course,” Amy agreed, snuggling close to him, her hand pressing the pendant against his chest. “No one else gives you such nice presents.”

“No one ever could,” Teddy murmured, and kissed her one more time.

Teddy got up in the middle of the night to go and get Sophia. Amy lay in bed drowsily, listening to her cry through a diaper change and then settle down for a bottle. She dozed off again herself, only to wake suddenly to quiet. Sophia had been crying, she thought, and then stopped—or had there been some other sound?

Amy got up, finding a robe left out on the dresser. She couldn’t help smiling as she wrapped it around herself—it was as soft and fluffy as the first one she’d worn in the hotel, and as comfortably proportioned. She padded barefoot down to the nursery, but it was empty.

  Teddy?

The sunroom, Teddy replied. Um... don’t be frightened, all right?

That told her what to expect. Amy hurried in that direction, only to stop short in the doorway. Her vague memories from twenty years earlier were nothing to the sight before her.

The scale of the big empty sunroom made sense now. Teddy was in his enormous, deep blue dragon shape, and still had room to move. He turned to look at her as she came in, his familiar gray eyes showing flames again for an instant when he saw her. His wings were folded close to his back, his forelegs folded carefully against his chest.

Sophia was lying in the crook of one foreleg. She was awake, loosely wrapped in her pink and gold blanket, a tiny spot of brightness against his blue scales. Teddy had one taloned hand hovering just above her, ready to catch her if she should roll the wrong way. To her surprise Amy could see the familiar bracelet on his much larger wrist. When she looked for it, she found the glitter of the pendant she had given him against his chest as well.

“Room for one more?” Amy asked, taking a few slow steps into the room when she had begun to get accustomed to the sight.

Dragons’ mouths weren’t built for smiling, but she could feel it in his voice when he spoke silently to her. Please!

Amy hurried over to him, and he guided her to perch on his foreleg, leaning against the warmth of his chest. She picked up Sophia and he gingerly wrapped his other hand around them both, holding them close. Sophia’s tiny hand caught one long black talon, and she stared at it in obvious fascination.

Amy kissed the baby’s forehead and then looked up at Teddy, silhouetted against the sky visible through the glass roof. It wasn’t quite dark, and she could hardly make out any stars, but the silhouettes of other buildings around them told her she was home. “No one can see in, I take it?”

Perfectly private, he assured her. Our little dragonet will be safe in her playroom when she starts to shift.

Amy pressed her cheek against his smoothly-scaled chest. Her dragon was much more comfortable to lean against than she would have imagined. She settled Sophia securely against her chest an
d let her eyes close, listening to the beating of Teddy’s dragon-sized heart.

I’ll keep all my treasures safe here, Teddy promised silently, especially the two most precious.

Amy didn’t doubt that for a second.

  Special Sneak Preview

For just a second, peering through the trees, Becca had been sure she saw the dragon. There had been a big black shape among the trees, a silver glint that could have been eyes. But before she was sure of what she was seeing, it disappeared.

A moment later she heard the sound of someone in the woods, in the direction she had been looking. It sounded like they were running.

Becca immediately started second guessing what that dark shape had really been, because the noise she heard now was perfectly ordinary. She moved along the path, trying to find an angle that would let her see the person crashing through the woods.

Something burst out from an unexpected direction, big and dark enough to make Becca jump.

It was only a dog, though. He stopped when he saw her and whined. He turned and looked back the way he’d come—toward the sound of pounding feet—and whined again. Becca had just started to approach the dog when he took off running.

Becca touched the phone in her pocket and followed him at a jog, and a moment later she heard the dog bark. It was a sharp, unhappy sound. Becca slowed to a cautious walk, and then she spotted the other person in the woods.

There was a naked man standing among the trees, staring at the dog, and at her.

He was tall, fair-skinned and clean-shaven, with unruly dark hair that curled around his ears and at the back of his neck. Becca couldn’t help noticing that he also had dark hair curling between his legs. Becca jerked her gaze away from the fact of his naked cock without letting herself think anything of it at all. He was covered in dirt and scratches, and he looked bewildered.

No one had mentioned whether Gray’s Hollow had a deranged nudist living in the woods. Maybe that had been a secondary concern after briefing her about the dragons.

The man took a step toward her, opening his mouth to speak.

The dog, which had been standing with all four legs braced and its head down, bolted abruptly, leaving nothing between Becca and the naked man. The man let out a choked, wordless yelp and waved frantically in the direction the dog had gone.

Becca actually took her eyes off him to look in the dog’s direction, just because the man seemed so emphatically concerned. She quickly returned her gaze to him when she heard him coming closer.

He stopped again when she looked at him, and this time he was close enough for her to properly meet his eyes. They were pale gray—the color of the mayor’s stone mansion. Nearly the color of the mayor, in his dragon form, a shining silvery color that arrested her attention. He looked right back for several long seconds, and then Becca remembered that she was alone in the woods with a deeply confused naked man.

“Are you all right?” she asked, looking him up and down again and trying to notice only the mud an
d scratches, and not the gorgeous, muscular, naked body under them. Now was not the time.

The man gave a short, wild laugh that made her meet his eyes.

“I’m…” he said, and then he folded down unsteadily to sit, drawing his knees up to his chest. Becca took a few steps closer and knelt down so that she wasn’t towering over him.

“I’m naked,” the man said after a moment. “Sorry, that’s—you know that. It’s just that usually I’m a dragon.”

Becca’s eyes went wider, and she reached out to brace her hand against a tree trunk. Cara had warned her about that. They’re always naked when they shift back.

She had also said, Ilie is always a dragon.

“You did meet Gus, right?” he asked anxiously. “You know about us? Cara said she would tell you.”

“I did meet Gus,” she said slowly. “So you’re…”

“Ilie,” he said, nodding. “Usually… always a dragon. Until just now. This is… very strange. Talking like this. Being like this.”

“Just now,” Becca repeated. “I thought I saw you—I thought I saw a dragon, I mean. I was looking for you.”

Ilie nodded. “I saw you. I saw your eyes. And then…”

Becca couldn’t look away from his eyes, and Ilie didn’t seem able to look away from hers. Her heart was beating fast, and she felt the tug between them like a compass needle swinging to north.

“I thought…” she said, and just holding on to a tree wasn’t enough. She sat down too. Their eyes had met, and he had changed from a dragon to a human. “I thought that sort of thing required a kiss, or true love.”

Ilie smiled a little, stiffly, like he wasn’t quite sure how smiling worked. “You have very persuasive eyes.”

“Oh.” Becca couldn’t tell what she was feeling at all, too stunned by the last few minutes to process anything. “Um. So do you.”

Ilie’s smile widened at that, looking much more at home on his face. Becca’s heart beat harder, and she could feel her pulse pounding all over her body.
