The inspiration for this story came from various sources, some of which are, sadly, topics I know too well. The situation Isla finds herself in, trapped in an abusive marriage, is something I watched growing up, and so I felt Isla’s determination to not have a child with Jake very strongly within me. So many women – and indeed, some men – end up in these horrendous situations, with no way to escape. I wanted to explore this theme because it is close to my heart, and I hope I have done it justice.
I hope you loved The Girl Across the Street; if you did, I would be very grateful if you could write a review. I’d love to hear what you think, and it makes such a difference helping new readers to discover one of my books for the first time.
I love hearing from my readers – you can get in touch on my Facebook page, through Twitter, Goodreads or my website.
Thanks,
Vikki xxx

A huge shout-out to Michelle Symonds, one of those superwomen who puts the rest of us to shame. Thank you for your support.
To Rachel Allen and Amy Fergus, the Cornish contingent. I’ll never forget our debates at college, those strong opinions becoming the foundation upon which our friendship was built. As always, thank you for your friendship & support. To Sarah Wolstow, for taking the time to give me feedback (read: reassurance!) when I needed it most.
Thank you, as always, to Jennifer Hunt, my flawless editor. What a wild year it has been! Thank you for taking me on this journey. Many thanks to all the wonderful people at Bookouture for your hard work and enthusiasm.
And last, but by no means least, thank you to my fellow Bookouture authors. For talking me down after getting bad reviews, for making me laugh with ridiculous GIFs and wild stories, and for accepting me before I believed myself worthy. You all get five stars from me.
