The Amygdala Syndrome (Book 1): Unstable

She turned off her cell at the sound of a knock at the door.
“Come in.”
Lieutenant Mosley walked in. “They’re all prepped.”
“Very good.”
“How do you wish to proceed?”
“Let’s move ahead with the trials, and hope to God that we can find a cure for this before it’s too late.”
She got up and followed him out, leaving her laptop open with a map of the United States. Six states were marked in red, showing areas where the infection had spread. The president had ordered a cordon sanitaire sealing them off from the rest of the population, troops were sent in to handle the violence, FEMA set up aid camps while medical doctors worked around the clock to find a way to turn back the tide. The military were throwing every resource they had at the problem, and trying their best to protect and ensure the survival of the nation. Easier said than done.
Lynch wasn’t a fool.
Even though they had two immunes, that wouldn’t solve the problem. Delivery of a vaccine, if they ever created one, would be the challenge. Trust was at an all-time low. And that would only get worse as they sifted through the sick and healthy. There would be many other towns like Marfa and Alpine, others who would fight back and resist, and they would have local militia, neighborhoods and gangs to deal with as nefarious individuals would see opportunity when the country was at its weakest.
Lynch closed the door behind her, confident that she would be the one to turn this around. She would do everything in her power, and that began today. She entered a room which contained a two-way mirror. Beyond it, strapped to two steel tables, dressed in blue scrubs, were Jenna Jackson and Pete Douglas. As doctors began to work, their mouths opened wide but Lynch couldn’t hear their screams.
But that didn’t matter.
As long as they were immune, there was hope.
This was not the end, just the beginning.

Thank you for reading Unstable: The Amygdala Syndrome Book 1. If you enjoyed the book, I would really appreciate it if you would consider leaving a review. Without reviews, an author’s books are virtually invisible on the retail sites. It also lets me know what you liked. It also motivates me to write more books. You can leave a review by visiting the book’s page. I would greatly appreciate it. It only takes a couple of seconds.
