Sonofabitch. He sucked in a breath. She didn’t play fair.
And when she turned around and stepped to the other side of the tub, he not only lost his mind, he lost what was left of his restraint. Her gorgeous curves, sweet swell of her hips, and perfect heart-shaped ass killed his remaining control.
To hell with it. He had over seventeen hours to get the woman out of his system. Though he knew from past experience it wouldn’t be enough, not nearly enough, he strode to the pants he’d laid over the chair last night, and fished out the condoms he always carried in his wallet. Thankfully, he’d been inactive in that department lately and had a good stash. He glanced at the door, noting with a grin she’d already bolted them in.
She always was prepared.
“We’ll have to improvise when we run out,” he told her, slapping three condoms on the edge of the Jacuzzi, before he dropped his towel and stepped into the tub.
Her gaze settled on his erection, and he pulsed at the hunger deepening the gold in her hazel eyes as she stood. “I seem to recall you always excelled at improvising.”
He reached for her then, pulling her close, settling those damn, distracting curves against his body, basking in the feel of her melting into him as he palmed her ass with one hand, and cupped the back of her head with the other. “There’ll be no recalling today, Lisa. Only doing.”
“Amen,” she breathed against his mouth before he captured her lips.
Just as earlier that day, she tasted of heat and desire, but this time, something was different. This time, there was no holding back. She met his kisses with wild abandon, tangling her fingers in his hair as he angled her head and kissed her deeper, longer. Harder. He stroked his tongue against hers, setting a rhythm that had him harder than a stockless anchor, and her clinging to him, shaking with the very need rushing through his veins.
He needed more. Much more.
Sam broke the kiss and smiled at her. “Show me that jet.”
Already breathing ragged, she sucked in breath and nodded. “Over here.” She grabbed his hand and tugged him a few steps before she sank to her knees by one of the sides.
“Relax,” he said, settling her sweet ass on his lap as he knelt behind her and kissed her neck. He felt her hitched breath, and throbbed as she pushed her cheeks against his thighs and spread her legs when he prompted with his palms.
Satisfied with the trajectory of the water, he ran his hands slowly up her body, cupping her breasts, thrilling at her moans and how she arched back and tipped her head to give him better access to her neck. Kissing a path downward, he spied several new freckles since he’d had the pleasure of holding her naked in his arms.
Glancing over her shoulder, he watched her breasts fill his big hands, and her peaked buds puckering further as he brushed his thumbs near them, but refrained from touching the beauties. It was a game they’d often played. Testing each other’s will. Seeing who could hold out the longest. Her, willing him to touch without asking, or him, unable to keep his hands off before she begged.
“Sam…”
By the time she whispered his name, he had a nipple in each hand, rolling them between his thumb and forefinger. She moaned, rocking that sweet ass against him while she arched her chest, filling his hands with her glorious breasts. His eyes crossed at the feel of her exquisiteness. Soft and supple, bucking against him, peaks tight and mouthwatering in his hands.
But he needed more. Had to feel her. To make her cry out.
To know he pleased her above all others.
He released her nipples and watched his hands disappear into the rippling water as he ran his palms over her quivering belly to spread her legs farther. Playing the cry out game again. But this time, he had every intention of losing as he brushed his finger over her center and slid one right inside.
She cried out all right, and pressed back. “Sam…I won’t be able to…hold out…”
“Good. Don’t,” he urged, sliding his finger in and out of her, careful not to block the thrust of the jet as she gripped his hips and continued to buck. “Come for me, Lisa.”
That seemed to spur her over that edge, because she tightened around him and let out the sexiest damn moan he’d ever heard. Waiting until she stopped, he clenched his jaw tight to keep from following her over. His need to be inside her enforced his strength of will. Slowing his strokes to let her down slowly, he also shifted them to break the connection with the jet.
Her body went limp as she slumped against him. “Damn, Sam,” she panted, twisting her head to stare up at him, satisfaction glowing in her gaze. “I’ve missed you. That was crazy.”
He chuckled, kissing the top of her head as he eased away from her tempting body in order to grab one of the condoms. “I’m nowhere near done. Trust me.”
Chapter 9
“Good to hear.” Lisa eased back onto one of the carved seats, her gaze smoldering as she watched him roll on the condom, water lapping around her breasts, teasing Sam with peeks of her peaks in the bubbles.
Damn, that’s hot.
As if sensing his need to hold her, she rose to her feet and met him in the middle, leaning in to kiss a path up his chest while her hands drifted south in a blaze of heat. Grasping her wrists, he stopped her progress and lifted them to his shoulders.
“I won’t last if you touch me,” he admitted before thrusting his hands in her hair and kissing her long and deep.
She immediately sank into him, and his body heated where they touched, which was everywhere. He missed this, missed her and her hot taste and equally hot responses. He cupped the back of her head and changed the angle of the kiss, thrusting his tongue against hers, groaning when she ground against him.
Ah, hell. He wasn’t going to last long if she kept that up.
Sam broke the kiss and set his forehead to hers. “Hold that thought.”
When she nodded, he backed up until he felt the molded seat against his calf, then lowered himself into the water. His mouth dried at the view as he stared up at her.
Breathtaking.
He reached out to trace a line from her naval to her the curve of her breast. She set her hands on his shoulders and sat on his lap, just out of reach of where he wanted her most. But not yet.
Sliding his hands to the curve of her hips, he bent forward to draw one of her beautiful buds into his mouth. When she thrust her fingers into his hair, and held him to her breast, Sam closed his eyes and enjoyed the feel of her moan vibrating through him.
He had to talk himself off the edge. He wasn’t ready. Not yet. Not until he was inside her.
Apparently, on the same wavelength, she tugged his head and he immediately released her nipple and opened his eyes.
“God, you’re beautiful, Lisa.” He cupped her chin and brought her mouth to his, kissing her slower this time, savoring her taste, and the unhurried sweep of her tongue exploring his mouth.
It never ceased to amaze him. The woman always knew what he needed. Hot and heavy. Or slow and thorough. Even after all these years. When she broke the kiss and lifted up before grasping him in her hand, he hissed a breath. Somehow, she knew he needed to be inside her.
Holding her gaze, he grabbed her hips and nudged her entrance with his tip, watching need and hunger and affection mix to claim her expression as she slowly sank onto him. They both cried out, their gazes still locked.
The feel of her surrounding him was so exquisite, so right. “Damn, you feel good. So. Damn. Good.”
Her face was flushed and gaze a deep goldish-brown. “So do you, Sam.”
Only with Lisa did he ever leave his eyes open. Want his eyes open, and hers, so he could watch, see her deep need turn to satisfaction. He needed to know she felt good. That it mattered.
That he mattered.
Gripping her hips, he crushed her against his chest and guided her movements, matching his thrusts with her rhythm, always amazed at how they synced. The feel of her pebbled nipples scrapping his chest, her soft, warm body brushing his, surroundi
ng and heating, propelled him to the edge.
He held her smoldering gaze as she took pleasure in riding him; her lids drifted half-closed while she pulled her bottom lip between her teeth.
“Sam…I need…”
Knowing exactly what she desired, he watched her as he released her hip to slide his hand between them, sucking in a breath when she arched back, changing the angle of their thrust. He brushed his thumb over her center, applying the right amount of pressure that set her off.
This time, she grasped his shoulders, her fingernails digging into his skin, leaving their mark as sure as her heart long ago left a mark on his soul.
She gasped out his name, her body gripping him tight, as she bucked. Heat skittered down his spine. His whole body tightened, and hands back on her hips, he gripped her, lifted up, and thrust deep inside. Unable to hold out to prolong the pleasure, he climaxed so hard he was sure he’d gone blind.
Drained of energy, Sam was grateful he was sitting as she slumped against him, warm breaths hitting his chest while they both worked to get their breathing under control. Somewhere along the way, his vision returned, but he was still too spent and boneless to move. He got the impression she felt the same, because she set her head on his shoulder and made no attempt to get off his lap. In fact, she snuggled closer; the feel of her heart pounding against his chest brought him a comfort like he’d never known.
Beyond floored, he closed his eyes and held Lisa tight, deciding it was probably best not to try to dissect the feeling, just let it flow while they had the opportunity to enjoy. Tomorrow would arrive soon enough, and bring with it his final hours with the woman he was beginning to realize, not only connected with him both physically and emotionally, but was his Achilles heel.
Lisa awoke to discover her delectable dream of Sam nuzzling her neck while he spooned her from behind wasn’t a dream at all, but hot reality.
“Good morning.”
“Morning? It’s still dark out. What time is it?”
“Oh dark-thirty.”
She smiled and rolled until she was on top of him. “What do you know? It’s time I had another dose of Sam,” she said, kissing a path up his chest, finding him deliciously hard against her hip. A thrill warmed her low in her belly.
He chuckled, and rolled them until she was beneath him.
Her new favorite place.
“I’ve got your dose right here,” he teased, grinding against her.
She wrapped her legs around his hips and drew him closer. “Mmm…I was hoping you’d say that.” She placed open mouthed kisses across his shoulder. “Actually, I was hoping you’d show me.”
Always aiming to please, he needed no further prompting, dipping his head to kiss her lips, her neck, her breasts, and parts farther south, taking his time, tasting and nibbling until her whole body trembled with need.
Drawing back, he grabbed the last condom from the nightstand and smiled. “As you wish.” After he ripped the packet open, she helped him roll it on, taking great pleasure in the way his body shook under her touch.
They were both hot and breathing heavy by the time she finished. And as he positioned himself between her legs, he dipped down to capture her mouth. It didn’t stop her from crying out as he entered, the incredible feel of him sliding inside her was something Lisa had never forgotten, and was now not likely ever to forget. Whatever she was feeling with Sam wasn’t your average, everyday roll in the hay, great sex feeling.
This was real. Strong. Emotional and physical. Fierce.
He kissed her long and deep, matching the slow pull of their bodies as he slowly drove her out of her mind. Damn, the man could kiss, and the way he knew her rhythm, transporting her up that precipice in no time flat, made her breath catch. Sucking a nipple into his mouth, he sent desire rushing through her, and she felt the powerful tug clear to her center.
A needy noise sounded deep in her throat, but she didn’t care. It felt too good. He could play her like a book. That fact should’ve concerned her, but she was comforted in the knowledge she knew exactly how to rev his engines, too.
Wrapping her legs around his hips, she drew him in farther as she palmed his chest and scraped a nail across his nipple. A sexy, low groan sounded deep in his chest, so she did it again. He released her and drew back, locking his elbows as he increased his pace. Hot damn that felt good. So good.
“Sam…”
“I know. I’m right here.”
Her heart raced out of control as he held her gaze, and pulled nearly all the way out, then shoved all the way in, over and over, increasing his pace, pressing harder, until she cried out and burst into a million pieces. With one last, deep thrust, he whispered her name and followed her over.
Lisa had the power to do him in.
That thought stayed with Sam all night, keeping him awake while she lay satiated in his arms. Alongside him. Several times. In the living room. Bathroom. Sprawled out on the floor after they’d returned around midnight from their condom run, when he’d taken her against the wall, and they’d been too damn tired to move from where they’d slid to the floor completely spent.
Then again, in bed, where he’d carried her a few hours later.
Sam knew he was taking risks. Ignoring the warnings his mind had tossed out to his heart. But Lisa was special. Worth fighting for, so he’d continued to ignore his mind, until he’d finally drifted off to sleep only to awake with a start from a bad dream. One that had Lisa held at gunpoint by both Rojas and Koslov and their damn, leering gazes.
That had been enough to have him carefully detangle himself from her slumbering embrace to slump onto the couch. Two hours ago. He tracked his gaze up the bed, following every silhouetted curve he remembered like the back of his hand, until it rested on her sweet face.
Without realizing he’d moved, Sam suddenly found himself standing by the head of the bed, staring down at her napping, angelic form.
So sweet.
So damn sweet. From the shadows cast by her thick lashes, to the sprinkling of freckles across her button nose and rosy cheeks, the full lips he knew tasted like heaven, silky soft hair fanning the pillow and spilling across more sexy freckles on her shoulder. The woman was innocence and fire. Intelligence and sex appeal. The total package, deserving of more than a grunt like him had to offer.
She deserved to live in the luxury surrounding them. To be doted on. Have someone around twenty-four/seven. Someone she could rely on. Count on.
That wasn’t him.
Missions cropped up suddenly and pulled him away for weeks on end. He’d seen more than his share of busted marriages due to the secrecy his job entailed.
Lisa deserved much more. He knew it, and her father knew it. Commander Knight would want more for his daughter than to deal with a SEAL’s life. Sam understood now. It was the reason her father had given the hands-off warning to his men all those years ago, despite the fact SEALs generally followed a no-touch family code.
Jameson Knight would definitely want more for his daughter than to fall for a military man like Sam.
To say that realization hurt was an understatement. His inside bunched as if punched. Sometime during their fun last night, he’d foolishly started to believe they could actually make a go of things. Lisa had talked a good game, convincing him she could and would handle her father. And again, he’d actually started to believe her. Because he’d wanted to, needed to, in order to stave off the pain of reality.
Unless he had a normal nine-to-five job where he was never on call and had no risk of rushing off in the middle of the night, putting his life in danger, Sam had no future with Lisa. Since he was definitely not the nine-to-five person, he would never have that normal job, even when he did eventually hand in his packet.
The sleepless night also made him realize he had no future at the Knight Agency, since being near Lisa posed a serious threat to his heart, and his ability to perform his job. Although he still wasn’t sure if he was going to take Jon up on his offer to join GAPS, or r
emain a SEAL, he knew he would definitely return to the base and his team once this job was through. He also knew Lisa wouldn’t care if he remained a SEAL. In fact, she told him flat out in bed last night that she wanted to continue to see him and would support him no matter what he did. And for a brief, brainless minute, he’d considered it. But, he’d seen too many of his buddy’s go through breakups. Too many wives hurt. Or widowed.
As dawn brightened the room, he saw the light. Even if by some miracle her father accepted him as her boyfriend, being involved with a SEAL held too much risk of pain for Lisa. He just couldn’t put her at risk. Wouldn’t put her through that risk.
It was time he went and had that talk with her dad. The one he never quite got around to having last night.
Sam slipped into his running clothes, grabbed his cell phone, then glanced at Lisa. So peaceful and beautiful and unharmed.
Exactly how she needed to stay.
Due to her agent status, she would always be at risk, but he refused to be the cause. Nor did he like the idea of her pining over him. Waiting for his return, wondering, worrying day after day where he was or what he was doing. Watching the news to try to figure out if his squadron was somehow involved. That was not the life he wanted for the woman he loved.
It was okay to admit it now. He was in love with Lisa. Hell, he’d probably been in love with her since before he’d discovered Jameson Knight was her father. Still, it made no difference on his decision.
No, it was better that they go back to their original idea from last night. Taking advantage of their time together before they went back to work today. And since it was time to go back to work, their together time had officially ended.
With his heart heavy and squeezing in his tight chest, Sam quietly left the room.
By the time Lisa showered and dressed by herself, finished breakfast at eleven fifteen by herself, in her room, by herself, she knew something was wrong. The euphoric feeling she’d woken up with had long since evaporated.
