Rescuing Mistletoe Millie
Page 7
She snuggled against his chest. “And that’s because I wanted to watch you.”
“I’ve been thinking. About what your father asked me. Would you consider being my wife?”
Millie pulled away from him. “If you think I’m going to marry you because my father saddled you with his dying wish, you have another thing coming.”
Dean frowned.
She almost laughed. “But I will marry you because I have fallen hopelessly in love with you. Sparks and all.”
“Do you have a date you’d like to marry on?”
“How about the week of Christmas?”
“Done.”
Epilogue
It was the week before Christmas, and Millie couldn’t believe how quickly things had turned around for her. She looked at Angel. And Angel. They had become friends. Angel even went to church Sunday mornings with her and Wilma.
Angel fixed her hair. “You look lovely, Millie. You’ll make Dean a wonderful bride and wife.”
Millie smiled. “I saw you and the sheriff walking in the moonlight the other night after dinner at the café.”
“Yes, you did.” Angel grinned at her. “There might be a possibility there. Although, I know Ty and Wilma have the next wedding in January.”
Wilma grinned. “Look at us all. We’ll be married women by next Christmas.” She hugged Millie. “I’m so happy for all of us.”
The music sounded from the church.
Angel tugged on Wilma. “That’s our cue. We’ll see you at the front of the church.”
Millie looked at the door and braced herself to walk down the aisle. Her father should be walking with her, yet in a real way, he was. It was because of him that she’d found Dean and fallen in love with him.
She opened the door and started down the aisle. She kept her eyes on Dean and felt the peace of the Lord walk with her. Finally, she stood by his side with her hands in his.
Preacher Knox welcomed the crowd. “We’re gathered here to witness the wedding of Dean Scott and Millie Carson.” He smiled at Dean. “Do you take this woman to be your wife. To love her and provide and protect her all the days of your life?”
“Yes, I do.” Dean looked at her with such tenderness.
“Do you take this man to be your husband. To love and respect and honor him all the days of your life?”
“Yes, I do.”
The pastor smiled. “I pronounce you as husband and wife. Dean, you may kiss your bride.”
Dean drew her close and sealed their love with a kiss that made her knees go weak.
After a brief celebration with their friends at the church, Dean led her out to the buggy. “We’re going to our home in style.”
“That sounds good to me. Take me home.”

Author’s Note: I hope you enjoyed this story. I really liked the idea of The Gleaning Shelf. There are always those in need around us, but most of the time in our busy world, we never know.
I think I’ll begin to make my own Gleaning Shelf and put extra money or items until I have enough to send to the Salvation Army or food bank.
Have a blessed day and happy reading.
