“Sorry, I’m still reeling a little.” I shake my head as if to clear it. “So, are they dating? Like, really dating? Did he fuck her and everything?”

“I think she fucked him, but yeah. If you had been here, you would have seen it firsthand. Where were you last Saturday?”

“Vanilla date.” I get a bad taste in my mouth just thinking about it. “Not a good one either. You’d think I’d have learned my lesson about those, but whatever. Doesn’t matter now.” I look at Cree and shake my head again, still in shock. “I can’t believe Casey agreed to go on a double date with you. Where is Kas anyway?”

“She’s not here tonight,” Cree says. “She’s helping clean up the library from the flood, and Bill asked me to help out as an extra monitor tonight since there’s a photographer and all. Sometimes they forget about limits.”

“Right. That’s why I’m here, too. Are Casey and Rocco here?”

“No, they went back to his place.”

“His place?” I whistle again. “I’ve never even been to his room.”

“Well, like I said, I think she’s good for him.”

“And she’s trying to get along with you as well?”

The music starts up, and we have to talk a lot louder to hear each other. The photographer is nearby, speaking with two young women. They’re all smiles as they start to take off their clothes and pose with floggers. Normally, I’d be focused on the show but not tonight.

“It’s going to take some time,” Cree says. “I’m not sure we’ll ever be friends, but I have a better understanding of her feelings now.”

“Why’s that?” I yell above the noise.

“Just some information she’s shared.” Cree shrugs and shoves his hands into his pockets.

“Oh...you found out, then.” I nod to myself.

“Found out?” Cree stares at me, obviously confused.

“About her past.” I lower my voice as much as I can and still be heard. “About her father.”

“You knew?” Cree’s eyes widen, and he grabs me by the arm, pulling me away from the crowd coming up the stairs for open dungeon night. “I can’t believe you never told me.”

“You’re the one always saying I should keep people’s confidences and whatever.”

“Yeah, but you rarely listen to my advice. How did you find out?”

“She grew up in the small town right next to mine, bro. It was all over the news when that little girl got kidnapped. She went to the public school near my house, and everyone knew about the guy who went down for it. Cops found her in the house with him and everything. I was pretty sure I knew who Casey was the first day I met her. I recognized the first name even if she did change her last name. All I had to do was a quick online search to confirm it was her. That was a couple years ago. Didn’t give it a lot of thought since then. I figured it wasn’t something she’d want to talk about, and it’s not like we were ever friends.”

“I guess that’s true. She’s being open these days. That’s for sure. We went to the Italian place over on High Street...”

Cree continues to talk about date night, but I can’t focus on his words. I look back to the stairs, wondering if that woman will come back in or if she really left for the night. My mind wanders back to my previous conversation, trying to remember every word she said to me.

“Ivan? Dude, are you even listening?”

“Sorry, bro. I’m a little distracted, I guess.”

  “Why are you so distracted?”

Strangely enough, I’m hesitant to tell Cree about my encounter. Maybe if I had made a decision one way or another, it would be easier, but as it is, I don’t know what to say. Then again, Cree is one of my closest friends, and he’s usually pretty good with advice.

“I just...have something on my mind.”

“What?” He cocks his head to the side, and I’m sure he’s picking up on my uncharacteristic hesitation.

“Promise you aren’t going to laugh your ass off?” I ask.

“No.” Cree goes ahead and laughs. “Just you asking me that question makes me want to create a meme for it.”

I laugh, appreciating his honesty. Maybe I should consider the whole idea as laughable and forget it.

“What is it, Ivan?” Cree says. He stops laughing and presses me for an answer.

I inhale deeply, knowing it’s best to just put it all out there but needing to find the right starting point.

“Do you know that chick who works for the fire department?” I ask. “Long legs, brown hair, big tits, great ass...”

  “Lynn? The EMT?”

“Yeah, that’s her.” Good. At least he knows who she is.

“She was there when Kas and I were trapped in the library,” Cree says. “She kind of covered for the marks on Kas’s arms and such. She knew they were from rope but didn’t put them down on Kas’s chart so we didn’t get a bunch of questions about it. What about her?”

  “She’s older, ya know?”

“Well, yeah,” Cree says. “I mean, she’s not a college student, and she’s older than we are. What about it?”

  “But she’s still hot, right?”

“Sure, I guess so.” Cree rolls his eyes. “You really want me to give you my approval on something?”

“I know. You don’t give a shit about looks.” I can feel his judgment in his stare. “I’m shallow. Deal with it.”

“Maybe she’s not my type,” he says, “but she fits what you go for. I think she’s only a couple of years older than us.”

  “She’s thirty-one.”

“Is she? I guess I never asked.”

“But older chicks...that’s still hot in and of itself, isn’t it?”

“I’m not sure thirty-one is really considered ‘older,’” Cree says. “Hot is whatever you want hot to be, Ivan—personal preferences and all. Let’s just go with ‘She’s hot,’ and you can move on to what’s bothering you.”

“I wouldn’t say it was bothering me...I’m just not sure what to do about it.”

“About what?” Cree is starting to lose his patience.

  “She, uh, she propositioned me.”

“Is this the part where you start giving me all kinds of explicit details of your night whether I want to hear them or not?”

“No. I didn’t actually give her an answer yet.”

“Oh yeah?” Cree raises his eyebrows. “What does she want you to do?”

“Well, I guess she’s having a big party of some sort. She says it’s something she does every year for her and a bunch of her friends. Most of them don’t come to Power Exchange, but they’re still into kink.”

“I think I knew she was in other clubs. Does she host a lot of kinkster parties?”

“Yeah, I think so. But the one she told me about...I think it’s the biggest. They rent out one of the convention halls at a hotel downtown. She’s expecting a couple hundred people.”

“I’m guessing she asked you to be her date, right?”

“Not...exactly.” I rub my hands together as I glance around the room, looking to see if anyone I know might be listening in. “She asked me...”

I can’t seem to finish the sentence, and I’m not even sure why. It’s not like I’m worried about Cree’s judgment—he’s nearly as open as I am—but I’m clearly hesitant about something. Maybe I should just say no.

I don’t want to say no.

My heart starts to pound again. The fact is, the whole idea scares the shit out of me, and that, in and of itself, is a major turn-on. If I don’t say yes, I may never get the same opportunity again.

“I swear, Ivan, I’ve never seen you like this before.” Cree grips my arm again. “Can you just spit it out already?”

I lick my lips, take a deep breath, and say it.

“She asked me to be the party favor.”

Two university students thrown together in the midst of a raging storm, one a Shibari expert, the other an instinctive submissive.

As the flood waters rise, so does Kasinda’s panic. When she allows Cree to use his expertise to ease her fears, she finds herself healing from the trauma of her past.

The floodwaters may soon subside, but their passion for each other is just beginning to grow. Cree may be the rigger, but it’s Kas who has his emotions in knots.

  Unexpected Circumstances Series:

  Book 1: The Handmaid

In a bold political move, Sir Branford claims a handmaid as his bride instead of the expected princess in an attempt to spark a war. Poor Alexandra knows little of how to behave as the wife of a future king and knows nothing of the man who is suddenly her husband.

Alexandra knows she is being used as a pawn and must do her best to avoid scheming noblewomen and the scorned princess, accept her position as her husband ascends to the throne, and overcome her fears of the man with whom she now shares a bed.

Sir Branford is determined to have it all – the kingdom, a wife of his choosing, and the revenge he seeks for the death of his father. He doesn’t expect the naïve handmaid to become more important than he ever could have foreseen.

  Book 2: The Seduction

As Alexandra tries to conform to her new life, she soon discovers that betrayal lies inside the castle walls. When noblewomen plot against her, Alexandra ends up on the receiving end of Branford’s rage. Earning the trust of her wary husband will be no easy task for the young handmaid.

Branford may know his way around their bedchamber, but he’s finding himself ill-prepared to handle the duties of both prince and husband. His missteps bring down the wrath of the queen, and he will have to do everything in his power to atone for his transgressions. Branford must find a way to open his heart to his new wife if either of them has a chance of overcoming the treachery ahead.

  Book 3: The Consummation

With steady patience, Sir Branford teaches his young wife the pleasures to be found in their marital chambers. Though still unsure of herself, Alexandra begins to open herself to the possibilities and opportunities of her new life. As Branford expresses his desire to have more than a marriage of political contrivance, Alexandra finds facets of her new husband that promise protection, loyalty, and maybe even love.

As she gains a deeper understanding of her husband, Alexandra soon discovers there is more to being Sir Branford’s wife than sharing his bed. Queen Sunniva had told her to be “noble of heart,” and when the lives of aristocrats rest in Alexandra’s hands, she finally begins to understand the importance of her position in the court and in her husband’s life. Soon, Branford begins to appreciate how valuable a gift Alexandra is to his kingdom.

  Book 4: The Shortcoming

As the bond between Alexandra and Branford deepens, they each have their hopes for the future. Branford aspires to lead his kingdom with both wisdom and a firm hand while Alexandra fervently wishes to give her husband an heir. As Alexandra learns to embrace her noble role, she finds friendship with the girl she rescued from an abusive owner. It seems as though their lives have finally rewarded them with the happiness they have sought.

But happiness comes at a price, for war is on the horizon.

The neighboring kingdom of Hadebrand has amassed an army, and against insurmountable odds, Branford must lead the fight for his people. Alexandra is terrified but cannot let her fear show for she must serve as an example to their kingdom.

The war must eventually end, but there is only one thing on Branford’s mind—to continue the royal lineage. But how will Alexandra overcome her heartache when she can’t give her husband the one thing he must have?

  Book 5: The Concubine

  Royalty requires sacrifice.

As King Camden’s health declines, the need for an heir becomes crucial, impossible to ignore. With no other viable choice, Alexandra must stand stoically by when Hadley comes to the court of Silverhelm as Branford’s concubine. The queen’s edict of duty echoes through Alexandra’s mind as she accepts the loathsome conditions for the sake of the kingdom. The only person more devastated by the circumstances is Branford himself.

As Branford spurns Alexandra’s affections and King Edgar continues to press his post-war advantage, all seems lost to the young couple. Treachery still lies deep within the castle of Silverhelm, and the revelation of the traitor will come from the least likely of sources.

  Book 6: The Apprehension

With two traitors removed from their midst, Branford and Alexandra rekindle their faith in one another. Branford insists on remaining at Alexandra’s side at all times to protect her as he rallies his allies against King Edgar and the kingdom of Hadebrand.

Alexandra’s grace and humility touch the hearts of the people of Silverhelm, and the couple is surrounded by the love of their people. When the long-awaited news of an heir on the way reaches the people of the kingdom, all rejoice along with their king and the commoner queen.

But treachery still lives in the hearts of those who wish to see the destruction of Silverhelm and they would be willing to cause Alexandra harm to achieve their goal. King Edgar still will not relent, but will his role in past events be exposed? Branford is not invincible, and despite his vows to keep his wife safe, Alexandra is still vulnerable. When the unthinkable happens, Branford may not be able to survive the loss.

  Book 7: The Devastation

Although Branford is broken and desperate, he finds himself with no choice: He must declare war against Hadebrand, or Edgar’s evil darkness will envelop the commonwealth. Silverhelm’s army is grossly outnumbered, but Branford underestimates the people’s love for their commoner queen. The people rise up in support of their beloved regent, and Branford sees a glimmer of hope for his wife. He becomes more determined than ever to make up for his previous failures and secure the future of his kingdom.

With their murderous intentions, the treacherous King Edgar and Princess Whitney must pay for what they have done. They must not be allowed to destroy everything the people hold dear.

With but faint hope in his heart, Branford gathers his people and marches toward the castle in Hadebrand, gathering allies along the way. With the support of other noble families, Branford will have to find the strength to fight for the very survival of his own family and the entire kingdom.

He sees only one path: the annihilation of his enemy.
